Clothes = $4 yes, ALL adult clothes are $4 (some special items may be higher, like the $30 wedding dress...) Plants = yes, this thrift also sources AMAZING plants to sell and they pair it with follow up care / advice, so if you get it home and forget how to care for it, send a message and they'll happily help. I haven't been here since the new ownership and I've alway quite loved this place. I think I've decided that I may actually love it a little more now! The team is so delightful, uplifting and the place is a total vibe. The owners engaged with each person on some level or another and were super friendly (not the fake kind). They knew so much about plants, and as a plant girlie myself, I was diggin' it. They are all about community and care about what they put out to sell. Honest Thrift has options for everyone. Trinkets, clothes, shoes, plants, music, art etc. The pricing is affordable and fair, and their plant selection is beautiful and properly priced for a boutique style premium selection of plants of very well maintained and cared for. Heck, what you save on buying clothes for $4, splurge on your plant. If I didn't have nearly 100 plants in my own house and own my own plant business, I'd get mine from here. I stopped by this place as one of two places to drop off my unneeded clothes for donation, as I had sought out alternatives that weren't Goodwill, given how utterly wasteful and awful the company truly is. Besides the fact that parking is a frank issue in this location, what with currently unenforceable requirements to pay for parking (either managed by the private lot or by the City), assuming this is also meant for people who are just stopping by to drop something off, this location is small but very quaint. It is very prone to being very crowded. However, the décor is a worthy sight for sore eyes: it truly is a lovely setup they have. I encountered a couple of lovely women who appeared to be running the shop, and inquired about how much clothing they're willing to take. It seems that they can only take a heavily limited amount of such, and I was able to drop off a kitchen trash bag's worth of clothes. I didn't complain, because I understand (at least mostly, since I fully realised and acknowledged it shortly after I left) the limited capacity they have to work with. The entire transaction was painless and easy. I do recommend stopping here for the reasons above, and to be reasonably wary of the environment you will be getting yourself into. I plan on coming here again if I ever have to donate anything in particular. read more

This is what thrifting is supposed to be!! We came to browse after a tattoo appointment and I am so glad we dropped by. The shop itself is so darling cute and truly is a little gem. We met Hannah and Hannah who were running the shop and they were absolutely lovely! You can tell they put so much time and effort into making this place what it is. The prices are so fair and what thrifting is supposed to be. Their clothing is $4 dollars and their shoes are inexpensive as well. Their knick knacks were also very well priced and I got a computer bag that was brand new for $12 dollars. They also had mystery fun bags and we HAD to snag one, for $3 it's worth it in the fun of opening it alone. We ended up with some blankets, hats, and a gps and we had a blast tearing it open in the car (we couldn't wait). They also are a plant shop with lots of greenery all over and plants to purchase. I have a black thumb so I stayed away but the prices for them were also unbeatable. I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out. If I'm in the area and Honest Thrift Studio is open I always stop by. The selection is small, but you can tell somebody cares about what they are choosing to sell in the shop. They have a reputation for having high-quality pieces of clothing, sometimes even designer brands. They are usually cute items for around the home as well. I particularly like that they offer a selection of plants that have been propagated and are pretty healthy, but to be honest they are quite expensive for what you get. read more

Very cute store but a hidden gem. It's not easily seen from the road it's behind another shop. But next to the garden coffee if you get directions there. They seemed to have a lot of options on reasonably priced things. A little bit of everything. Mainly women's clothing. My 10 year old neice wanted to shop for her bday but unfortunately there wasn't a lot geared towards her age which is ok!! So I'd say if you're a late teen or younger adult def make your way here! I love this Thrift Shop. I shopped here one time and the next time I came in, I was greeted by name. Hanna and Hannah, the owners are clearly passionate about creating an amazing curated shop, but also building a fun community. Thanks to their advice, I have successfully kept my pilea plant alive for 2 months and counting and I can't even tell you the fun clothes I've bought for just $4 a piece. Plans for our San Diego overnight trip included some thrifting. My daughter came across Honest Thrift Studio during her online search. The shop is too cute for words! Although small, the space is nicely laid out with enough room to browse all the thoughtfully placed items -- nothing feels crowded. Customers were respectful and careful around each other. My daughter fell in love with the adorable little Sensitive Plant while the Coral Cactus called to me. We met Terrie at checkout who went over the best way to keep them happy and healthy. She then asked if we wanted to do a "Boomerang". I was confused, but my daughter understood and quickly explained it to me. I was honestly still lost, but we did it. :) Terrie then started me with a loyalty card and took the time to explain how it all works. What a lovely, memorable experience! We are so glad to have found such a wonderful little store. Parking could be a bit challenging, unless you don't mind paying $10 at the small lot right next to it. From $2 clothes to plants in all corners of the shop, Honest is just that. Honest. Jess does not over charge for items that are donated to her shop, as apparent by the cost of her goods. Nor does she turn away the opportunity to converse about horticulture and proper care of you green leaf family members. Jess absolutely enjoys this job as its apparent with her attitude and demeanor towards anyone who walks in. Riker, the shop pup is one of the most well behaved dogs I've had the pleasure of meeting and he is usually laying by the cash wrap and walking around the shop looking for some affection from customers(which he always gets). Small boutique style thrift shop mostly dedicated to plants situated behind a shops on Congress in Old Town San Diego. Street parking is tough depending on time of day however there is a parking lot for the Old Town Historic Park across the street with spots available usually. No direct access to the studios front door so you will have to walk down what looks like an alley on the south side of the "strip center", just look for the signs "Thrift & Plants" and they will direct you. There is a shared restroom with a code so don't be bashful to ask if its needed. The shop however is very small so be aware sometimes you will be shoulder to shoulder especially on days where Jess has a special promotion. Brought in a box of items to donate and met the store owner. I cannot say enough about her, she was the ABSOLUTE sweetest human!! She was just so genuinely delightful, she greeted all her customers, she asked to hold items at the register, a lady knocked over a plant and she ran over to assist. She's a one woman show and doing amazing. Her prices were more than fair, the store is adorable and such a fun unique place. I wish I had more to donate to her because she just truly was amazing. Cute store, except I felt like I was being watched intensely when I went in. I was just looking around and taking my time when the owner's mother was staring me down. When I tried to smile at her, she barely gave me a smile back. I'm sure she was trying to see if I was stealing but she wasn't watching any of the other customers in the store like this. I've come to this store quite a bit before but not enough to be considered a regular but everytime it's just the owner herself, I feel welcomed and get friendly vibes but I definitely did not get that this time. Also, the mother said she could hold my stuff at the front of the store for me, which is pretty standard for this store, except they usually did that before when I had an armful of stuff. This time, I had a singular, small item. I really hate to say it but I am Hispanic and look it and I'm not sure if that affected her attitude towards me. I only give it 3 stars because I've had generally good experiences at the store before this, but I don't really think I will go back because I felt really uncomfortable this time. I genuinely love the owner and how nice she is. Her mother just doesn't seem as friendly and she seems to be there quite a bit. The value of the clothes is amazing and you can't get that anywhere. You need to check out Honest Thrift Studio. It is amazing!!! The store used to be in a different and slightly bigger location and when I first discovered the shop, I would greeted with welcoming smiles and warm conversation and a shop dog (named Riker) who is so sweet and loves company! Since moving to the Old Town location, my only regret it that I can't go to the store MORE OFTEN. Jess is so kind and does what she can to remember customers, especially regulars or repeat customers. Honestly the store is even more vibrant, cozy, exciting and lovely in Old town. It is off Congress street so parking is a hit or miss but not bad at all and near so much yummy food AND garden coffee is right next door. You should go get some coffee and refreshments after you shop~ Overall, I just really recommend Jess' shop. You gotta buy a plant, some little knickknacks and things haha read more

Fabulous! Such a sweet little shop bursting at the seams with neat finds and interesting plants to add to your collection. I brought my four year old daughter - and while the small size of the shop can make bringing littles precarious, she was treated so kindly by the owners and made to feel special with little finds of her own and even a "tattoo" (a stamp with their brand on it!) My friend recommended going to Honest Thrift after seeing a story in the Union Tribune recently. I was surprised that there was no Yelp listing, but the store just opened on March 1 and the owner has been soooo busy running the store! What a surprising GEM of a shop! We were immediately greeted by owner Jess (who is a total sweetheart) and her amazingly cool dog, Riker...the star attraction! Then we met Jess' mother-in-law, Karen, just as nice, who was using her creative touch to arrange and group items in an extremely pleasing manner! Prices are very competitive and the items have been nicely curated. Because they are so well arranged in a light and airy environment, it's a pleasure to spend time in the store just looking around. I didn't tire out like usually happens at other stores. There is a Daily Deal that gets posted on Instagram and Facebook every morning...what a cool idea. Above all, 10% of the store's profits go to GRACE (Girls Rising Above Child Exploitation). Jess has such a big heart! I bought a really cute Tonala (Mexican pottery) bird for only $3...so happy to find another one for my collection! This store is a must-see for thrift store shoppers. I. LOVE. THIS. THRIFT. SHOP! First off, the owner is a genuine sweetheart and really cares about her customers. Her wares or so reasonably priced it's insane! I'm a photographer and I purchase a lot of props here for my clients' photoshoots. I also take advantage of the $2 clothing racks which are INSANE! I once got a Vera Wang black sweater dress here for $2! Yes, you read me correct... $2! VERA FRIKKIN WANG! It's kind of my favourite dress ever not just because of the brand and the fact that it looks great on me but also because it was TWO DOLLARS! Now that isn't to say you can find stuff like that all the time. Inventory is different each time you come. But that's how it works at thrift shops. It's treasure hunting. Another reason to love this place is because it is super doggo friendly. I love seeing her pooch in the store and he's just this big cuddly bear. Did I mention the plants? No? Well, let me tell you, the owner knows all the things when it comes to plants and she has garden sales all the time. My friend and I came in and purchased a lily and she gave us specific care instructions. I'm just in awe and can not say enough nice things. I cannot fit my love and adoration for this little studio in one review but here we go... It's exactly as it sounds, a thrift studio so it's quite small but it's almost like going into Ariel's hidden nook and finding knick knacks, thingamabobs, gadgets, and what not lol :) I do enjoy that they only allow 4 folks into the store at once, that way each person can realllly look into the space and come up on random treasures. I mostly come in for plants and plant accessories, you really can't beat their prices on their terracotta pots. It seems each time I come in there's a different variety of plants which is nice, but also very tempting because I seem to walk out with a plant every single time LOL. What really keeps me coming back is the community that Jess & Momma Terrie have cultivated in their small space. Jess & Momma Terrie are so warm and inviting and are helpful from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. The 'regulars' of this spot are also so helpful! Just a bunch of random strangers there to help each other out by finding small moments of joy from random thrift finds. The space is exactly as it's intended to be. Jess is a total sweetheart and for any negative reviews that says she's "too bubbly" .. ok, Scrooge bahumbug! Maybe online shopping is more your thing? Jess' Ora is such a pleasure to be around in this horrible time of the world. Her shop is so unique and she truly cares about what product she places out and her consumers (even her pet-sumers).
