Madison seems to have 3 types of thrift stores. Goodwill, St Vinnies, and those run by churches…read moreand/or church ladies. This is the latter type, and they all seem to be very similar (Bethesda, Agrace, etc). Less crowds, traffic, anxiety, and clutter than Goodwill and St Vinnies, but also less selection. Check back regularly and you will find some treasures. For the most part the prices are fair. If I specifically need something, I start with Goodwill, because I have the best chance of browsing. But I dont always feel like stopping in Goodwill just to browse. Versus it can be very peaceful to stop in Boomerangs, or similar. I've probably been there a dozen times since they opened, and bought something 3 of the times. They have furniture, which not all thrift stores carry. The staff has always been helpful.

Located in strip of shops I found to be Agrace to be a very nice thrift store with a good selection of upscale items. The selection of clothing is a bit limited, but they were doing work to expand the shop into the store next door. Agrace did have a nice selection of decor and home goods, including some really unique vintage items. I found a nice older Mexican wood carving that was very reasonably priced and had to buy it. Agrace is a very nice thrift store with some really good items for sale, well worth a visit to see if you can find something you like. A bit upscale, but with good prices so check them out.

I was drawn in by a cute navy blue shirt with white anchors on display, but was quickly overwhelmed. The anchor shirt had a lace inlay across the back shoulder area that was almost a southwestern print that for me took away from the piece, and was a mild example of their clothes going overboard. The best (aka worst) thing I saw was a white and blue striped sweatshirt with the word DREAM in all caps across the back...in red sequins. The sweatshirt wasn't too bad in and of itself, but that ridiculous sequined message deemed it unwearable. I wish I'd have snapped a photo. Maybe okay for teens who are comfortable wearing "can't even" and "#latergram" emblazoned across their bodies, but I can't take much of anything in this shop seriously as an adult.

The most frustrating thing was the Clearance Jeans wall, which advertised pants for $19.99. That's a great price for AE jeans, but when they aren't arranged in any particular order, it makes it very difficult to find a pair that will work for you. I'm not sure why they do this, as I ended up giving up after several minutes of searching; I would have bought two or three pairs if they happened to have the fit, size, and color that I liked. I did end up getting some clearance socks, so it wasn't a total waste of my time and the cashier was friendly and efficient.
