Before Walterville Market it was Schwartz Brothers, Rays Food Place and an IGA, but always a grocery store. This past August it was purchased and opened as a Dollar General. We stopped in on Christmas Eve and the store is a huge improvement from the most recent market. They appear to have done a nice job renovating the building. Dollar General offers food, snacks, health and beauty items, cleaning supplies, housewares, seasonal items and paper products. This location will be great for people headed up river who need to stop for basic items for their day or weekend trip. It's also really convenient for locals who live East of the Thurston area of Springfield. The prices seemed reasonable and the store was clean and well organized. It also felt like there were a lot more amenities inside verses the past grocery stores.

They have a drugs section, though the pharmacies at Bi-Mart have closed (ostensibly a result of Walgreens' incursion). There's also an electronics section (possibly with photo developing still, though I wonder who still has a film camera for developing), housewares, hardware, and sporting goods. And then a catch-all department with food/clothing/etc. Bi-Mart sells hunting licenses and stuff, so it's not uncommon for people to come for that. Don't forget to come in on Lucky Number Tuesday to see if you won a prize!
