When arguing or debating with someone(s), one of the parties involved may put the Comparing Apples and Oranges card into play. That card sucks. Sure, apples and oranges are different, but you can still compare them. An apple is $x.xx/lb and an orange is $y.yy. Both are round and both have skin. Apple rhymes w/ uhhhh, pineapple and grapple; orange rhymes w/ nothing.
So you gelato lovers out there will likely try to play the Comparing Apples and Oranges card while reading this review, but remember, that card sucks.
Food stuffs - $7 for what essentially amounts to 1.5 maybe 2 scoops of ice cream? $10 for a pint? Sure, the gelato flavors are excellent, but a pint of gelato vs. a Ray's Hell Burger? Sure, they'll both contribute their fair share of LDLs, but you'd be hardpressed to eat 2 burgers from Ray's, whereas you could probably go for some more gelato after a pint. In fact, you could get a burrito and a half from Chipotle, or 3/4 of a chicken at Chicken on the Run. When compared this way, the prices here are ridicu.....What?!?! How dare you play the Comparing Apples and Oranges card after my whole spiel.on why you shouldn't play it?! Fine. I'll compare this place w/ Cafe Gelato - also in Bethesda. Actually, forget that. I'm going to play the Comparing Apples and Oranges card b/c the gelato at Cafe Gelato, though cheaper by $3.50 for a pint, is so inferior that the two shouldn't even be mentioned together.
Wow. I've thoroughly confused myself. This is why I never win debates and arguments, w/ my only retort being, Your Mom!
Anywho, the gelato here is delicious! I went w/ the Thai Coconut - light, creamy, YUM! and the dulce de leche - which was more like dulce de shakes b/c it was -so- sweet.
So why 3 stars if the gelato was delicious? It wasn't mindblowing enough to warrant the price tag and it melted as if Dorothy doused it w/ water. And for those that say I didn't get the right flavors...
Service - I sampled darn near every flavor. Everything looked so good! And the workers were friendly enough to be patient w/ all of us (I came w/ several Yelpers). Ahhh, if only Costco sample ladies were this friendly.
Location - listen to Ina K. The address for this listing IS correct but Bethesda Lane doesn't show up anywhere b/c it's a pedestrian street. It runs parallel to Arlington Rd about 1/2 way down Elm St or Bethesda Ave. Bethesda Lane is a pretty cool place. The interior is rather narrow and there's not much seating inside, esp. for groups.
After sampling the best Bethesda has to offer, I'm now ready for Pitango. read more
