In a nutshell: "Worth the 'splurge': A must visit that uses quality raw materials that result in delicious gelato" One of my favorite Dolcezza branches in the area. Great for a summer treat, with a nice outdoor seating area, and great in the winter, with their churros and hot chocolate. Definitely go for the hot chocolate, it's thick and rich, one of my favorites. Perfect for dipping! They could stand to limit their free samples, though. I'm not one to knock free samples, but the line can sometimes get long because newbies and freeloaders want to try every flavor possible. That said, servers have been kind, and quick once you actually get your scoop. Another thing that I like is they don't skimp on their scoops. I've been to lots of gelato places that really rip you off, and so far I don't have the same complaint about this store! read more

I would love to give it 5 stars, but popularity has gone over Dolcezza's head (if there's such a thing). I used to go to the Gtown Dolcezza, as their ice cream tastes like the ice cream I get in my home country and the portions were perfect (not too big, not too small). A couple of weekends ago I was in Bethesda craving for a good cone with a scoop of dulce de leche. What did I get? a tiny cone, with a portion of ice cream the size of a contact lense. Price for that? 5 bucks. As you can imagine, I couldn't taste the ice cream from such a scarce portion. The outcome? I threw away 5 bucks and I am not going back to Dolcezza again. Sad because I used to like it. read more

If Mark Sanford had been smarter, he would have had written illicit love e-mails and had an affair with this Argentinian gelato instead of pursuing an actual Argentinian. This gelato fan would have understood if he disappeared from public office for a tryst with Dolcezza. The seating area here is limited, and it is a bit pricey, though considering the quality and freshness, I'll excuse them on that. The best thing I can say is this: frozen desserts for me usually have to include chocolate for me to enjoy them at all. But at Dolcezza, I've never once gone for chocolate or chocolate-laced flavors because the offerings like pineapple honey lime, avocado honey lime, pistachio, tahitian vanilla bean, strawberry tarragon, orange cardamom and such were too good to pass up. read more

Yeow! $5.25 for a tiny thing of gelatto? No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. They have numerous flavors, many with unique/exotic names - red papaya, mango champagne, and so on. I liked the variety but the cost, given the quantity, is probably going to deter me from being a regular. On the other hand, the employee that we encountered very patiently handed the bf sample after sample (despite the sign that says to limit 3 samples/person), which I didn't notice until he himself pointed it out. We finally settled with the cappuccino, red papaya, and pineapple lemon lime, I think the last one was. Cute place, limited seating, but a bit on the expensive side for my taste buds. read more

First time I have had Dolcezza gelato, even though I remember when Rob and Violetta were still in the discussion stage of opening a gelato shop. I was overseas when there idea blossomed into to what it is today. The gelato was delish this location is small but the line was constant - a testament to how good it is. The two girls behind the counter were super friendly and helpful. I need to get into D.C. to the main Dolcezza and see if I can reunite with Rob and Violetta after so many years. read more

Given all of the previous reviews obsessing over how expensive this place is, I will assume this point has already been driven home and will not make further mention of it. The location is primo - I only wish they had more chairs/tables out on the pedestrian street, because this would add tremendously to the European feel (as previous reviewers have mentioned, the interior definitely has a European feel). There are so many delicious varieties of gelato, some of which I had not seen anywhere else before. I also felt that the "small" size wasn't really as small as one would think from looking at the sample cup sizes on the counter, so don't be fooled into buying an even larger one (there's enough artery-clogging power in the smallest size, after all). Detractors included the egregious lack of organization (I had at least three or four people cut in front of me before my turn came up) and the relatively small space (there are about five or six tables for two people each, plus two tables outside on Bethesda Lane). I can't say I would go out of my way to come here again, but I am sure I will be back at some point. read more

Nobody smiles at any of the dolcezza locations!!!! I have waited to write this because I wanted to give these guys the benefit of a doubt. The product is still decent but service and quality has been going downhill particularly in the location on 14th and p where the staff is often rude. Management needs to be around. read more

Dolcezza - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

Chocolate amargo (dark chocolate) is AMAZING. A must for any chocolate lover! So good, so rich, so decadent. My friend, who loves caramel, thinks salted caramel is the best (I just thought it was okay, but I'm not crazy about caramel anyway). The gelato is a bit too expensive though; two small scoops for almost $6, hence 4 stars instead of 5. read more

Dolcezza - Sunday Latte! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

By the time we went to this gelato place at the end of my weekend, I was craving something chocolate-y and rich. This fit my mood perfectly. I had a half and half of the guandia and the straciatella (chocolate hazenut and vanilla with chocolate pieces). It was rich and creamy, delightful, despite the windy weather. And it tasted so fresh... you can tell they make it daily. The place is also adorable! I loved looking at and sampling all the crazy flavors. That's one thing I wish StL had... gelato places with more wacky innovative flavors! This place had avocado orange honey (turned out to be a few friends' favorite), pear (tasted freakishly like pears), apple cider, and Thai coconut milk. I can see why my friends who live near here love it so much. Between this and Pitango, I wouldn't ever need ice-cream! read more

Dolcezza - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

SO pricey, but totally yum!! Almost half the flavors are sorbet which makes this vegan very happy. :) I had the orange honey cardomom, which was delicious, and not overpowering. Like most ice cream shops you can taste before you choose, so make sure to ask for that. They are situated on Bethesda Lane, the relatively new walking street in the middle of Bethesda, which was the perfect place to be on a warm summer evening last night. Bethesda provides benches and these neat little lazy metal chairs, so we could sit and enjoy our ice cream while relaxing and people watching. The shop didn't even seem to mind (or didn't notice) that we took their glasses outside with us, which was nice. Not much else to say really - yum ice cream and sorbet in a great location for enjoying a summer evening. :) read more

Overall a nice place. They don't have a whole lot of seating or place to relax and enjoy a cappuccino. The gelato was good though. They have a dark dark chocolate flavor which put me in need of chocolate therapy. I wish they kept their freezers colder though, the gelato was pretty loose and almost instantly melty. The guy behind the counter was nice and didn't blink when we strolled in at fifteen minutes until closing. Also, no decaf coffee. :/. read more

This place is good...very good and I'll be coming here every time I go to Bethesda. Thank god we have some good gelato near the Rockville/Bethesda area. It ain't Pitango Gelato but I'm certainly happy with it. So what's great? Everything. Nice ingredients, great taste, not too thick, not to sugary. They have a great selection and you can try samples of everything so take advantage and select out the best of what you want! read more

Best lattes! I come here 3 times a week just because Dolcezza serves the most delicious lattes. I'm a huge fan of latte art because not only is it pretty, but it shows the care that went into creating your drink. The dolce leche churro is delicious and a great compliment to your hot drink. By the way, I left my cell phone in the shop one evening and the awesome gal working the shop kept it safe until I could run back for it. Great products and a great staff running the shop. read more

Dolcezza - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

Dolcezza is one of the most underrated dessert shops in DC. I frequent the Bethesda location and I find every time I go, I am impressed by the freshness and natural flavors of Dolcezza's Gelato. They also have great coffee! The shop is consistently busy, but never seems to be overloaded . The staff is friendly and helpful. If you are in Bethesda or Georgetown and looking for something sweet, skip the ice cream and cup cakes and get some Gelato! read more

I was looking for a nice place to get dessert and found this place. The service here was nice and friendly. I was having a hard time deciding which flavor to get and they let me sampled a couple. Dolcezza - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

One of my favorite spots in Bethesda. It might be a little pricy, but it is absolutely worth it. The coffee is always taste perfect to me, which is rare. Ice cream selection is lovely, my favorites are peach and cream, salted caramel and peanut butter straciatella. If you are a real coffee lover this place is for you. read more

Ridiculously expensive gelato, but the portions are large. $3.50 buys a kid scoop (really a small), and $4.50 buys a chico scoop, which is more like 4 scoops (and you get two flavors). I've had the mango habanero (good, good balance of sweet + hot, but not enough mango), the pistachio (my fave so far), the lemon cardamom (goes really well with the pistachio), and something else that was faintly Indian-themed. Don't expect really intense flavors here, but the gelato is uniformly creamy and well-balanced (not too sweet). One time, it melted a bit fast. Other times, it's been appropriately chilled. High variance, eh. I've also had the churros, and they'll heat them up in the toaster oven for you. Get the ones that are filled with dulce de leche which are delish. The cream filled ones (more like condensed milk filled) are really good too. The plain ones are boring. Also, I've had better results buying here and taking them home to my super infrared toaster oven (they have the standard dorm toaster oven). The best part is that I've never had a problem getting a table (but I've only been between Nov-April). The teas are whole leaf and my friend the coffee fiend says that the coffees are from some artisanal roaster that's big in San Francisco. Most of the tables are for 2, so this is a great place for a chillax first date. read more

I am torn - should I write about creative gelato flavors or should I write about fantastic coffee they serve. Both are excellent. Having this place so close to my work is getting dangerous. read more

'The sizes are tiny, the prices are high but the gelato is dynamite. I had the Thai coconut, my daughter had the raspberry sorbet and her dad had dark chocolate. All three were fantastic. You can definitely tell the difference in their quality and I suppose that is why the prices are a little bit higher. It is not a place that I would frequent often (living in Odenton and all) but certainly worth a taste. read more

Tienen alfajores! Need I say more? No, but I will. This Dolcezza (and the one in Georgetown) are both very cute black-and-white themed. This one has about 6 tables and several comfy chairs. There doesn't appear to be wifi and there are no outlets, so don't bother bringing your laptop. That being said, this is one of the few cafes open past 8 in Bethesda and is decent for reading/studying. The gelato is super creamy and they have great flavors. The coffee is tasty, although I like my coffee a bit stronger. I can sum up my love for dolcezza in two words: ALFAJORES + CHURROS! That's right people, skip the gelato and chow down on these delicious Latin treats. Alfajores, for those of you who have yet to be touched by one of god's gifts to humankind, are amazing Argentinian cake-like cookies filled with a dulce de leche center (cajeta) and sometimes rolled in coconut or dipped in chocolate. Churros originated in Spain and are long sticks of fried dough rolled in cinnamon-sugar and sometimes filled with dulce de leche (cajeta) or chocolate. Ask them to heat up your churros! Enjoy these treats with a nice espresso---esta riquissimo! read more

Incredible gelato and cookies as well. Very cute place. I had the salted caramel and some sort of vanilla. Very rich but not overwhelming and it felt very authentic. It was the perfect balance of flavors and the gelato was really some of the best I've ever had. Must stop in here if you're in town! read more

Pretty good. According to my worldly friend, it's also very Italian. Probably the most "Italian" you can get in terms of gelato here in the DC area. Wish they had more flavors though. That chocolate one on the far left is pretty bitter, so be careful. The grapefruit is yummy. Melts fast. I think the Haagen-Dazs nearby might be suffering. Don't give roudy, impish kids gelato. It's messy, you know. read more

The gelato here is really tasty! And, the flavors are super interesting, like many others have mentioned. I've been here twice and wince each time when spending almost five dollars on a chico cup. I enjoyed the chocolate and mascarpone flavors when I last went, after sampling the coffee, apple cider, and blood orange flavors (I stole tastes of the other two flavors from friends). The chocolate was fantastic. I do not usually like chocolate ice cream because it tastes like cheap cocoa powder to me. The chocolate gelato here tasted like they had melted a Valrhona milk chocolate bar into cream and then spun it into delicious gelato-y goodness. The mascarpone had a light berry flavor to it and was perfect in combo with the chocolate. The one thing to know is that the place is not too fantastic for groups. All of the tables are for two people and there is just a small aisle between the counter and the tables. I was with a group of nine, so we sort of huddled in the back and stole chairs from other tables. This only worked because we were there late enough at night. read more

Of all the things I miss about Italy, Gelato is close to the top of that list. Finding good gelato after traveling to Italy is near impossible. Luckily, Dolcezza is here. It's EXTREMELY pricey, but the quality almost offsets the cost. I've tasted quite a few of the flavors, but have not ordered them in full. Today I tried Mango Habenero (fruity with a slight tingle of heat aftertaste), Thai Coconut (like a pina colada), and Blood Orange (upscale creamsicle?). All were delicious! However, on this hot day, I went for the cinnamon and mascarpone. Refreshing and flavorful, unlike so many ice cream flavors. Absolutely perfect on a hot day, and worth the price every so often. Choose your time to go wisely, as the line can stretch way out the door on busy summer weekend nights! read more

Yesterday I was at the Bethesda library and as I was heading home, I first thought to stop off at Gifford's for some ice cream. Then I remembered I'd seen this gelato place and decided to try it instead. Like real Italian gelato, the product this place serves is exceptionally creamy yet tastes of more concentrated fruit than you would believe can exist. They had a plum-flavored gelato that tasted of more plum than most plums! Yes, it's expensive. A small will cost more (about $5) than a small cone at Giffords' and you won't get as much. But for a really special treat, this outdoes just about anything you can get in the area. read more

The flavor selection is great-always lots to choose from and they post their flavors on their website so you can see what they have to offer before you decide if it's worth the trip! There is just something missing for me in their gelato. It's not as rich and creamy as others I have tried. Almost icy or like a gelato sorbet hybrid? Just not as good as others I have had and at $6 for a small cup I rarely find myself going. It is a nice spot for a coffee though as the inside tables are hardly ever busy. read more
