This is only the second cannoli I have had in my life, and it was goooood! According to my Sicilian friend, Sweet Sicily's cannoli are the real deal. They come in three different sizes (small, medium, large); go for the large, you can handle it. The basement cafe is really cute and staff are very friendly, the owners and staff are Sicilian. Found this on Yelp (yay). Reviews looked great and I am fond of a good hot chocolate and tasty cake! Popped in for a hot choc. Staff were really friendly, even early in the morning! I did a take away so didn't get the chance to sample the full affect but, looked to be a great place to stop and enjoy a delightful pastry or cake. I was left eyeballing the tasty delights as they prepared my hot chocolate. I did not give in to temptation (proud moment) but promised myself that one day I will!!! I thought the hot chocolate would be a delightful think Italian type but that wasn't the case however, enjoyable hot chocolate nonetheless. I went here on Sunday evening hoping to satisfy my carbonara craving. Unfortunately they don't serve carbonara in dinner time. So I ordered 3 course menu for myself with glass of wine and added Italian coffee to complement my dessert. Appetizer was good, simple bread with prosciutto, ham, cheese, and olive. Main course, I went for pasta which I can't remember the name. It was decent with strong tomato paste and beef. I prefer the one my friend ordered, the Paccheri with seafood and creamy tomato sauce. This sweet little haven is hidden below the pavements of Dawson Street. They have a gorgeous array of Italian sweets and cakes on display behind the glass shelves of the counter. It is quite small so probably best if you're meeting a friend for coffee and cake. You'll see it as its gaily painted in green, with a sandwich chalkboard outside. The family who run the place are warm and welcoming, helpfully making suggestions about the multiple cakes and pastries they have to tempt you! The homemade cannelloni is large and decadent, at only €3, in fact all the cakes are competitively priced. I excitedly tried the hot chocolate, but it wasn't at all like the hot chocolate I recalled from Italy, just your regular powder and milk mix. So, I was wandering to work, it was a dull spring morning and I just wanted something different, I'd noticed the sandwich board outside here a few times and I decided to venture down the stone cut steps to see what lurks beneath! And wow was I in for a treat, when i stumbled into this cute, quaint little Italian pasty shop, thoroughly delightful ladies behind the counter and a mouthwatering range of seemingly homemade cakes, tarts, pastry. It was early, so well before the kind of time one can justify having earned a treat so I had a cappuccino and croissant - for €3 it was unbeatable for quality and value. It is not easy to find, matter of fact, my friends recommended it and gave the instructions how to find it, but once you do - buonissimo :) I ordered panini and cannoli and both were great! The place is small, so be prepared for waiting and squeezing with other guest, especially during lunch time. Walking down the street and we see this pretty place :D it is smalll inside but the lovley Italian ladies reassured us it was going to be renovated in the next few weeks :) we had the vegetable soup and the salami, sundried tomato and mozzarella panini. The soup was a bit watery and bland but the panini was fab :) we also had the chocolate canoli and the cappachino ,they were both amazing and the canoli was really rich and filling . My friends and I were really looking forward to trying this place and our expectations were totally lived up to! It's really a great cafe: located in the heart of the city centre, very close to Grafton Street and St Stephen Green. It's very cosy and the atmosphere is really nice. The staff are Italian and are very friendly and helpful, even when the place is packed with people waiting to be seated. There are a lot of other Italian customers too, which is definitely a good sign. The food is amazing: I had a ricotta cannolo (the large one), and it was delicious, as good as the ones I had in Sicily. My friends had pineapple pie and nutella and ricotta tart and those were great too. The hot chocolates were quite good as well. Next time (there will definitely be a next time!) This lovely and minuscule place is a hidden gem in the middle of the city! I went yesterday for an after-work treat and both the Caffé Latte and the Raspberry Tart were extremely good. The cake selection is entirely home- and handmade, the coffee is actually hot and not only warm, and very aromatic. On top of that, the coffee and cake deal at €5 is absolutely decent and the two ladies who work there are welcoming, kind and - best of all - italian, so you can be sure to pick up some of the sunny mentality and language. Amazing by the warm welcome we were seated in what felt like an Italian Coffee shop prior to Starbucks Inception. Authentic. My Americano, simple itself. So, this makes me sad, but it has to be done. The name has changed to "Sweet Sicily," but that isn't all that has changed. The quality of the food has gone down--especially the soup. I thought it was my picky husband who always happened to get what he called the "strange-coloured, and slightly off-tasting soup," but I got it the other day on my solo as well. Not only was I sad that he was right, as any good wife would be, but sad that one of my favourite restaurants has consistently been serving us weird soup. This place used to be a go-to for us, but it has just started to be less than ideal on freshness and flavour. An incredible meal that took under an hour which we wanted but the space allows you to stay as long as possible. If the bottom floor is full continue up the stairs and you will find many more small rooms where your able to sit at a small table and have an extremely good meal and coffee.
