Visiting Murphys for the weekend from Sonoma County and decided to check out Doke. Showed up an hour before closing and the place was packed but we lucked out and were seated right away at the sushi bar. Hands down best sushi and food I have ever had. The staff are extremely welcoming and the sushi chefs take time to deliver high quality, beautiful, and delicious sushi for a reasonable price. The udon was to die for as well. Wish that more places like this existed- might have to make the 3.5 hour drive for some Doke more often read more

We have been coming here since Doke opened in 2012. Love this place! The only drawback is the size inside; you really need to either plan ahead with a reservation, come at odd hours (love Sunday afternoons), or our new favorite option: get takeout! Never disappointed in the food, although one time (it was a busy, rainy night) my udon noodles were a bit undercooked--I assumed because there was such a demand for hot soup! Doke used to be great but when I went in this last weekend there was a whole new staff and was so disappointed. I have been there many times and the food has always been great and so has the service! The head sushi chef made the place great, along with his daughter who was one of the waitresses. The sushi is now much lower quality as a result, because the new chef is not nearly as experienced. I will not be going there any longer, not just out of principle, but because the food has suffered. The sauce they used to have was amazing and now tasted bland and funny. read more

Sushi is ok not bad. Ordered chicken udon, stock had no flavor and chicken was dry. Service was great. however, after waitress came by asking if everything is ok, husband let her know the chicken was dry and had no flavor. Her response makes me wonder why she even bothered asking if everything was ok. Later she suggested sriracha sauce to help and explained there is flavor but after udon noodles go into the stock it sucks up the flavor. My husband and I tried every place in town open on Tuesdays (our date night) and Doke has been our spot the last three weeks in a row! We have had great experiences each time! We make reservations, because this small place fills up fast, and we usually sit at the sushi bar. We've ventured all over the menu, but get a Murphys roll each time because it is our favorite! The broth for the udon noodles is delish, and we've really liked everything we have tried so far. The service is good, our water glasses are never empty, and the entire staff is very friendly! Very simple and clean inside. I must have gone on the right day and the right time because there was no wait to be seated and the food was ready in a flash. The quality in fish and presentation doesn't get any better (good cuts, very fresh). They were however a little stingy with the ginger but when I asked for more, she had no problem bringing me extra. One thing I'm always offended at when I go to sushi restaurants is how expensive nigiri is as it's just rice and a thin slice of fish!...So I wasn't too thrilled when I saw that an order (2 pieces) here was $5 but in their defense, it was pretty amazing. I'm a yellowtail fan so my attention went straight to the grasshopper roll. I thought the tempura asparagus seemed out of place so I substituted shrimp tempura and it was everything I had hoped for, although I probably should have asked to hold the sauce. Not because it was bad but because I'm just not a big sauce fan. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that our waitress was also one of the owners and she was very friendly and attentive. This is a very small place and you have to make reservations. This is one of the reasons it took us so long to try Doke Sushi. I have to tell you this place is soooo good. I am not a Sushi critic but everything I ate was extremely good. I left feeling we are so lucky to have such a great Sushi restaurant up here. My new favorite spot in Murphys! I can't believe I've waited so long to try them! Jimiai is a master behind the sushi bar, as well as his papa and lovely Meagan! The calaveras roll is my favorite and if you ask Jimiai to "do his thing" he'll create you a masterpiece you'll never forget! Also the golden curry is to die for! Great sushi place in Murphys!! My kids loved sitting at the bar while we unwinded from our busy hiking day and enjoyed our yummy sushi, tempura and udon noodles. Cute place, and very friendly staff! I would have loved a chance to rate the food but I'm only able to rate the service or really lack there of. (1 star is too much but the app will not enable me to post the review without a rating) Of my many trips to Murphy's throughout the years, this was my first and last time I will ever go to Doke Sushi. A friend and I stopped for lunch today. After we were seated at our table, it was clear, for some reason, the supposed waiter decided not to service us as he tended to not 1 but 2 other tables who were seated after us and not once came by to take our beverage order. I hope I am wrong but the manner in which we were ignored seemed intentional and I can't help but feel discrimmated against either because we were speaking in Spanish or for some other reason. No matter the reason I won't ever go back and, to those I know who are visiting Murphy's, I will always recommend they go to some of the other good restaurants in town. read more

I've been a loyal customer since Doke opened, have always loved it, and felt really let down this evening (a mid-week Wednesday). I tried to call in a take out order about 5:30 pm, that would have added up to over $100, and was told they're too busy to take any take out orders. Really? Wednesday at 5:30? Too understafffed? Cool place. Wonderful staff. Incredibly tasty food. Definitely try the sake cocktails. Everything we had was super fresh and plated beautifully. Love this place. This is the best sushi restaurant in a 50 mile radius, and the only one for at least 20 miles. They can get busy, and have very limited seating. Best to call ahead 60-30 minutes before and make a reservation, even on a week day. While sitting inside having dinner I've seen some impatient people get really bent out of shape when they find that they can't just walk in and be seated immediately at 6:00 on a Wednesday evening. This place also seems to be very popular with the locals during the week. The menu has a very wide range, from grilled dishes, sushi, rolls, noodles, to curry.The actual sushi fish selection is very limited, but I have never had anything I didn't like! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Jim and his staff are awesome . Food is great . My favorite is the Mokil roll. It has mango and kiwi as well as tempura shrimp. First time there I thought fruit in sushi was so strange I had to try it. SO glad I did. Yummy! The Tora and the Dragon are excellent as well . A lot of places use imitation crab for California rolls ...and that is available here if its what you prefer and are used to...BUT they also give you the option of real crab and that makes it SO much better . My boyfriend and I went on a Thursday night and there was just a short 5 minute wait luckily. However, it took a weirdly long time to get our food once we ordered it. Oddly long. Like 20 minutes+ for 2 rolls and a couple of nigiri. Anyway, the rolls were fantastic. We ordered the Cherry Blossom, which was delicious, but a little too much wasabi for me. I know, that's the point! And I love wasabi, it was just super intense. I liked it, boyfriend loves it. We also got the asparagus roll, I forget what it was called. Maybe something to do with a grasshopper. That was the bomb!! Super creamy with the avocado on top and my fav! The nigiri we got (salmon and tuna) were great as well. A follow up from my 5 star review 6 mos. ago. Not only have they maintained their quality, they have made some special additions to the menu that are fantastic-oysters, clams/mussels to mention a few. Almost all reviews of this restaurant are 4 or 5 stars, exception being one chap who did not have a reservation, was impatient, left, and never ate there. Honestly, I think it defeats the purpose of Yelp to allow a rating without tasting the food-thought that was what Yelp is all about. Anyway, as a follow up-Doke deserves 5 stars and definitely is a must visit if you are in Murphys. It is not a huge place, and a reservation is suggested if visiting on a busy time. read more

I absolutely love this place. The sushi is comparable to other great sushi restaurants I have been to in cities. I always get the caterpillar roll when I come here. The only thing I don't love is the prices, but they are sensible for the quality of the product. The food here was amazing. If you sit at the bar, you can actually watch the chef make your food! It's presented so well. I loved it! The only problem I had there was with the service from the wait staff. When it was busy, it seemed like they forgot about you. Went here for lunch today and had the Calaveras Roll with real crab meat. They give you the choice of imitation crab meat or the real thing. I am willing to pay more for the real thing. Love, love, love! Now firstly, this is a small mountain town, so no, Doke does not have the most extensive sushi menu. What they do have though, is amazing! Fresh, creative, beautifully presented with friendly servers who remember you and always offer a fun dining experience! The kitchen is also happy to make substitutions. Doke is small - and very popular. Don't assume you can get a walk in table on a weekend, it is definitely advisable to book a table. Okay, iv been to a ton of sushi establishments across the us as well in foreign countries. This is a unique experience and its nothing short of fantastic. The chef is a great and extremely friendly man with skills that are rare in todays restaurant business especially of this caliber. The hostess was a mix of professionalism and sincerity all wrapped in one. The staff were all friendly and full of life. If ever a one star was deserved... We walked into the restaurant at 6:35 on a Friday evening. There was one person at the sushi bar and two people at a table in the back. Sat down at a table and ordered one beer one glass of water three pieces of Maguro Nigiri and one piece of Sake Nigiri. 40 minutes pass with more customers coming in after us, sitting down and getting their orders served. From complex rolls to cooked dishes everything is coming out but are four pieces of Nigiri. After 20 minutes we ask the waitress says it's coming right up. After 35 minutes we ask again and we could see her going back to the sushi chef who says he'll get to it in 5 to 10 minutes. We were meeting friends at 7:15 and told the waitress to forget it and that 40 minutes waiting for four pieces of sushi was ridiculous. She said to us "you should've told me you were in a hurry". WHAT???? 40 minutes for three pieces of sushi which we never received and we should've told you we were in a hurry? You served every single person in this restaurant including 10 people that came in after us but we should've told you we were in a hurry? What did they tell you, they had 15 minutes to live? We paid for the beer and she dumps the change in my hand like I was at the counter at McDonald's. We walked out and to my surprise she came chasing after us claiming that the Sushi chef was new and he had his own way of doing things. That was almost as bad as stating we should've told her we were in a hurry as she serves the entire town in front of us. She basically was stating that the new chef was a jerk and she was right. To make it all worse the sushi was for our seven and nine-year-old girls were now starving. Thank goodness firewood was open. One reviewer said this restaurant rivaled sushi establishments in the Bay Area. What a buffoon, clearly that is a reviewer that has only eaten sushi at a counter in the back of a Kmart. read more

The waitress we had was a sweetheart. Always making sure we were good with everything whether it be with drinks or the food. The complaint I have first was my glass of wine. Finally was able to get in to Doke Sushi. I had tried last minute attempts but was unsuccessful. Worth the wait! Beautiful creations as well as authentic Japanese flavors. We sat at the sushi bar which was quite comfortable and enjoyed watching the entrees come out. Each one intrigued us due to the artful plating. My friend is vegan and she had a wonderful roll that was suggested and I had the chicken katsu as well as a spider roll. I cannot lie, I thought I was only going to get through half of it but it was so delicious I ate the whole roll. This is the worse sushi place I've been. First I made reservation because it's so small it was needed, so I was excited to try out this place since their food looked great on their Web page. At 725 I arrived had my girl friend go into the restaurant while I park the car so we would be on time for our reservation, parking was pretty bad I've park in the back by the park. So I walk up to the restaurant see my girlfriend standing outside and she told me they had a mix up and will be sitting us outside pass the kitchen ok I was ok with that I told my girl friend great well we are alone back her and it's will be fine, I ordered a sushi which which I dot think 7is too much and a beer, my girlfriend order a chicken salad. So I order a salmon ahi tuna cucumber avocado, with sprouts, easy sushi no sauces . Well are drinks came first as usual but in a warm glass with hot beer , I didn't want to stir the pot so I just let that go but then my sushi came and it was really unbelievable which look more like a rice bowl, I was very disappointed and had driven 45 min for this so called great sushi they claimed to have, not only the sushi was bad but the charged me 13.00 for 5 pieces that look like this. The waitress knew I was disappointed and took the 13.00 out, and we'll you think that would make a person happy it didn't I was still hungry and and was really upset so they didn't care.
