Pretty tasty Thai food at reasonable prices in historic downtown Sonora. Weds lunch (salad included with good peanut dressing)specials involved,Pad Thai with shrimp, Green curry with chicken & veggie spring rolls. Pad Thai noodles were fresh,al dente, generous amount of shrimp & lightly spiced. Spring rolls in chewy rice noodle wrap, crunchy & healthy (other than the included creamy peanut sauce). Green curry was the highlight, rich sauce/stock spicy with added table hot sauce & blended well with the steamed rice. Nice interior & good service, except my entree arrived about 15 minutes after my eating companions (I think they forgot). Street parking is a real challenge, but there are two complementary city 3hr parking lots one street East of Main street. Good shops on the main drag to walk off some calories after lunch. read more

We came to Sonora Thai for lunch. We were greeted promptly and sat at a table, and offered drinks. I got a sweetened Thai ice tea that was delicious, my friend ordered hot jasmine tea. We were also given a small salad with a delicious sweet peanut dressing. We were given a few moments to look over the menu. We placed our order of appetizers: vegetarian fresh rolls, po-pia - Thai style egg rolls, and bbq pork buns. We also ordered lunch specials 11 & 16. The food was delicious, the restaurant wasn't packed but was busy for lunch. The employees were friendly and made sure to check on us periodically if we needed refils and make sure we were satisfied with the food. The restaurant was a good temperature, was clean and well presented. Its been about a year since last time I was at Sonora Thai and we will definitely be back sooner next time. read more

Stopped at this place in a whim. The whole area is very cute. Small restaurant, typical decor. We were seated right away and ordered right away. Food came out less than 10 minutes. We ordered entrees out of our comfort zone. Chicken satay appetizer was delicious the sauce was so good not to sweet. The cucumber salad that come with it, tasty and refreshing not to vinegary. The yellow curry medium spice was good. I'm not sure I've ever ordered this at a Thai restaurant. The pad see ew was also a new choice, I feel conflicted since I hadn't eaten it before it did seem on the bland side for a Thai dish but idk if that's how it's supposed to be. Have been here a few times now and every time, the food tastes better and better. Thai spicy, level 5, is legitimately spicy and nothing is better than getting red or green curry on a cold day. Sonora just might not be the place for me. Another fairly highly-rated place that I didn't really enjoy. Service here left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for them to take our order, and almost an hour after being seated (more than 30 minutes after ordering) for them to bring our food. We got a couple noodle dishes and some BBQ chicken, so it shouldn't have been more than a few minutes. They never came to check to see if we needed anything, never offered to refill our drinks (and the cups are insanely small), and didn't even bring us the check. Then they were about to let a patron who was being seated try to kick us out of our table before we were ready to leave (because, again, they never brought us our check). The food itself was not great. At best, I would consider it to be mediocre Thai food, but I would say it's actually subpar. I could make better Thai dishes at home, which is not a great thing to say about a restaurant. Prices are reasonable compared to the Bay Area, but the quality is not good...definitely not worth the price. The place seems to be popular with the locals, but if you're visiting from a city that has decent Thai food and service, you'll likely be highly disappointed. read more

Considering all the standard American food restaraunts in Sonora it is great to have an authentic Thai place. It is a family owned and run business and you can tell. They are passionate about what they do. That does also mean they can be a little slow. The curries are all good but they could use a little more spice. The proclivities of the local clientele calls for more mild food, but I want my red curry to have a good burn. The papaya salad has great flavor and full size shrimp. Usually it's served with the tiny bay shrimp but this has a good helping of tender large shrimp. That being said, of you don't like a fishy salad this may not be for you. The imitation (yes, fully vegetarian) duck is probably their best dish. You could fool an meat eater with this, but for the vegetarians, it does not taste too much like meat. If you're like me and can't stand Beyond or Impossible, this is a good choice. The salmon special has great flavor but the chicken tends to be overcooked and there are more bell peppers than anything else. The same with chefs special #1. The chicken was overcooked and there were way too many corns. There are usually only two workers, and one cook, so it is usually a long wait. I have been there twice now when their card machine does not work. This last time I had placed an order for pickup and had to wait for probably twenty minutes while they reset their system and they still couldn't figure it out, only accepting cash or zelle as payment. By the time I finally paid and got out of there my food was cold. I would also recommend eating in the restaurant and not ordering to-go. Usually in restaurant you get enough to eat for a full meal AND a to-go box for leftovers. The leftovers alone are about the size of the entire to-go order. The peanut tofu had maybe 15 pieces of tofu and did not even fill the entire box. If you want authentic Thai food, this is your best bet, but don't come expecting a fast meal. Also, it can be kind of cold inside so bring a jacket just in case. read more

Staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we came in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Our drinks order was taken quickly and they had juice for our little one. The food was amazing in terms of quantity, quality and price. We paid what was a very reasonable amount for a large bowl of curry chicken noodle soup and Thai barbeque chicken with a side of dumplings. The taste was fantastic with clearly fresh ingredients throughout. The slight crispness of the dumplings was great. Wow! Talk about flavorful with friendly service. We found Sonora Thai Cuisine through Yelp and had to come downtown to try it. We left happy campers because the spring rolls were so fresh and came with a yummy peanut sauce that made you want more. The entrees were of large portions and came out steaming hot. I went to Sonora Thai for the first time in several years, and was incredibly satisfied by the freshness and quality of their food. As I vegetarian I was happy to see they had a whole page on their menu dedicated to vegetarian entrees. I got the #52- a vegetable stir fry with pineapple and sweet and sour sauce, served with white rice. It was so refreshing and tasty. The service was quick, the staff friendly and attentive. I also got the Thai iced tea which was perfectly brewed-not too overly sweet. The only complaint I have is I wish it was a bit lighter in the restaurant- it was rather dark and set a sad mood in my opinion. read more

We came to Sonora for lunch. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table. We ordered from the Lunch Menu: Pad Thai and the Lunch Special. After placing our order we were given a complimentary Thai salad. I mixed it up and dug in, it was pretty good! I mixed the Pad Thai together with some big spoons. It was excellent. The highlight of our meal was the special: salmon, chicken, shrimp with garlic sauce. I was impressed with the large chunks of salmon which were cooked perfectly. There were four, I wish there were more. The shrimp was already peeled and ready to eat. The garlic in the sauce was easy to spot and I liked it a lot. My first overnight visit to Sonora, and I was very happy to see this restaurant was just down the street from the Sonora Inn. I got the Tofu Himalai and the Pra Ram Tofu -- and a coconut milk Thai tea which I enjoyed while awaiting my take-out order. The Pra Ram Tofu was carefully packaged with the peanut sauce and some chopped toasted peanuts in separate containers, which was great since I planned to save that for breakfast. The food was DELICIOUS -- they did such a great job with preparation, even for take-out. I'm a vegan and I love that Thai restaurants are always happy to work with diner requests. The woman who took my order advised me of dishes where fish sauce was already part of the prep. Everything was great and I recommend this place to traveling vegans. read more

I am such a fan of this restaurant, both the food and the location. I live in Louisiana but visit Sonora a couple times a year to see family, and I don't need much of an excuse to go to Sonora Thai. Being right on Washington Street it's in a perfect location if you are looking to park and walk around before or after dinner. There is plenty of tables as well, so usually you can get in and seated without a wait unless it's peak hours or a holiday. The service was speedy and friendly. The menu has lots of great choices, and the food was super tasty. I took one star because some of the meat were ordered was tough and overcooked. I had the most scrumptastic Tom-kha-gai soup -- coconut chicken -- but the chicken was tough. I will try it again in the future. My son had the pad-so-with pork BBQ -- it was outstanding!! I adore Thai food, and Sonora Thai Cuisine hits the spot if you've got a craving! The green curry and Tom kha soup are both bomb...SO good! I've had better pad Thai (normally my favorite dish), it was kinda dry and didn't pack the flavor punch I hoped for, but it was still pretty good. I thought there could be more papaya in the som tam, green papaya salad, but overall the flavor was on point. It's a bit pricier than some other restaurants in town but if you want Thai food, this is the spot in Sonora! The mango w/sticky rice was drool-worthy...YUMMM! What a great dessert. Note that it's take out only right now. Call ahead to order so you don't have to wait. Park around back in one of the 3hr free lots, not on Main Street, for easier parking.
