We hired Roger - can you tell he's so awesome you want to address him like a friend? - to help us move a couch from a friend's house to our apartment. Roger went to the house and picked up the couch on his own and brought it our apartment. He then brought it up, by himself, to our floor. But it doesn't stop there! He noticed while moving the couch that it had a few spider crickets living in it. He made sure we knew so we could address it before moving the couch into the room. He not only helped us take care of the spider crickets, he gave me a ride to the hardware store to get bug killer. In April this year, I found myself in a bit of a tough situation trying to move from my shared house to a shared apartment. With only one bedroom to move, I didn't have enough stuff to justify a traditional moving service (but they wanted to charge me like I did), but it was still way too much stuff to try to move on my own. I also didn't want to ask friends to help me, because bless their hearts, manual labor is not their forte. DMV Cargo Taxi ended up being the answer to all my prayers. I contacted Roger for a quote through Yelp, and he responded in a timely fashion with a quote that was far and away cheaper than anything else I had received. We set the day and time for the move then, and then I contacted Roger again closer to the moving date (I booked about two weeks in advance) for a final confirmation, and he confirmed. Sure enough, on the appointed day and hour, he showed up with a spotless truck, all the necessary equipment, a helper, and a really great attitude. I showed them where everything was, and they got to work right away, loading the stuff up on the truck. A little under an hour later, all of my things were neatly deposited in my new place and they were driving away. I kid you not, they were that fast! Nothing was broken or damaged and nothing was left behind. I had a large mini-fridge that I was concerned about, but they moved it up and down several flights of stairs with no problem. They even wrapped up my mattress lol. And as a bonus, they were so nice and professional, and were a real joy to work with. It was definitely the easiest, most stress-free, and honestly enjoyable move I have ever had and I would absolutely recommend DMV Cargo Taxi to anyone doing a small move. This is probably by a cosmic difference the best moving service I have tried. The professionalism that Roger and his team showed were beyond my expectations. They will make sure your most valuable furniture don't get even the slightest scratch. The best quality that these guys showed was ingenuity. I have hired them twice, but for my first furniture pick up requested they moved down a sofa from a third floor, in a DC building with no elevator, and the only stairs available were similar to fire stairs in the back of the building. They were pretty creative and efficient. Also, their service price beat all the other quotes I found during my search which was why we hired them in the first place. I needed some wire panels delivered from a store since they wouldn't fit in my vehicle, and were too big for the bed of a truck. These guys are amazing. They helped us moved today and the whole experience has made me write my first review on yelp. Having said that, imagine the impression these hard working guys must've had and the free time I have to write this on the day we moved. Punctual? They are very punctual, in fact they arrive at least 30mins early which really helped as the loading was free in a very short time frame. We had to park outside for the last 15mins as our time had expired and the next truck was ready to start their move. Had they not arrived early and worked faster than I had expected we wouldv'e had to be the "bad hombres" taking someone else's time. Professional? They are the epitome of professional and make the work seem like a breeze...at least for us, they worked nonstop for 4 straight hours. Equipment and truck size? They had more stuff than we could imagine. All professionally packed, tied to the truck walls and nothing flying around in a Optimus Prime of a truck that can easily adjust a 1 bedroom apartment stuff. We had furniture for almost a two bedroom apartment and Roger (the owner) accepted and loved the challenge. Hidden fees? NO HIDDEN FEES AT ALL. I checked with at least 40 other companies before going with these guys (yelp has the feature to send requests for quotes to 10 companies at a time and I utilized it to the fullest as we had to move on a very short notice). 95% of the companies have one or an other kind of hidden fees: One time booking fee, arrival fee, extra charge for stairs, for un-packed bags, for using their blankets or tape and maybe even for asking too many questions :). I read so many horrific reviews of companies showing up late, bringing smaller trucks and taking two or more rounds to bring all the stuff, working slow, charging insane rates for overtime, cops being called etc etc. But with these guys it was honestly one of the best experiences. They are funny, they keep you engaged while working and are clearly motivated to get more business rather than making an extra buck like others. Before this experience I would've said "if we ever move again" as I was seriously becoming allergic to moving. But now, I can say with confidence that "Whenever we move again", we would definitely hire their services again. Great service if you just need a few things moved. I was moving out of 1 bedroom in a house, and I had very few things to move. After checking with traditional moving services, the lowest estimate I got was around $150. Some charged as high as $360, even though all I had was a twin bed frame and several bags and boxes. I live in the city and don't have a car, but wanted to buy a couch on Craigslist. Nearly all moving companies were going to charge me an arm and a leg, and some even said they would only do a minimum of two or three hours. I definitely didn't want to spend that much for a single hour of work! Anyway, I found a couch I liked, and scheduled a pickup time. I cannot recommend Roger highly enough - he was absolutely terrific. I needed help with a last minute couch pickup/move and he responded immediately. He arrived early and came prepared with every possible moving tool that might be necessary. After discovering that the couch could not be removed through the staircase, we had to move it via a second floor balcony. Roger was incredible -- he quickly created an amazing and sturdy pulley system and the couch was easily and safely lowered onto the ground floor. If you just need a few things moved across town, but don't have your own van, and don't want to pay for a "moving" service, then DMV is for you. I needed a couch and some knick knacks moved a few miles, so I called DMV. Within a couple of hours, Roger was here and willing to help. He was professional and conscious of all the variables at play while moving (angles, stress points, delicate spots, etc). We needed two people to move the couch, so I helped out as well. The cost was significantly less than if I'd gone with a traditional moving service ($65+ as opposed to $150+). My husband receives an email informing him that the truck has been in an accident and we should find another moving company. I had been looking to buy outdoor furniture off of craigslist for some time, but I don't have a vehicle that could transport it. Enter Roger. In my previous experience, movers are always late, full of excuses and just generally have a bad attitude. Roger is the complete opposite. I called Roger in the afternoon on the day I wanted to move the furniture. He was happy to help, even on short notice. I had not even seen the furniture at that point, so I told him generally when I was going to view it and that I would call him if I liked it for him to help me move it. I called him and he was in the process of moving something for someone else, but it literally felt like he dropped everything and came to help me. He told me about what time he could make it to pick up the furniture (he ended up being early) and he had a great attitude.
