I've been going to DJ's for eons, since I used to live a couple towns away. I make it up every few years from Boston and still thoroughly enjoy the baked stuffed shrimp. Their menu has been the same forever which gets boring, altho there's always a blackboard board of specials. But since this is one of the few places where you can get those shrimp and I know I love how they're done, I'm happy to order them every time. Portions are large, salad bar is adequate (not the most exciting options) and wine is well priced. Service is mostly good. It's almost always a zoo early weekend evenings but they take reservations. This place came highly recommended from Yelp. After spending 10 minutes in town, I know why. There aren't a whole lot of other options. We were in town for the weekend and had dinner here on a Saturday night. Because it gets so dark there so early, our internal clocks were completely off and we stopped in for dinner between 5-6 PM. The place was already packed with townies. The staff knew all the patrons by name. The dining room looked like it was preserved from the late 50s: lots of wooden everything, yellow-glass light fixtures, and big booths. It was almost as dark inside as outside. Our waitress was at least 65 years old and hard of hearing. The menu was very short and basically everything on it was fried in some form. There were at least 10 "specials" for the evening, ranging from spicy chicken wings to prime rib, and they were written on 4-ft-tall dry erase boards that the waitress carried around the dining room and propped up against someone's chair to display (that someone was me several times, when I was actually sitting in the chair). The bf settled on steak tips, I ordered fried shrimp. All the entrees come with the salad bar, which was small, jam-packed with slow elderly people, and full of things that seemed to have, as another Yelper put it, come straight out of boxes or cans. If I wanted peas in my salad, I would have to choose from a vat of peas in some sort of creamy substance that contained whole peanuts. WTF is that??? If I wanted beets, they were pickled. It was bizarre, very unappetizing, and overall bland. Each entree also came with your choice of potato: baked, mashed, or fried. This is an option I haven't even heard of since I was a kid. I thought it died with the 1970s. People had their entire extended families dine with them. Loud children, including babies made trying to have an adult conversation super fun. Our portions were enormous. The bf's steak tips were more like a strip steak cut into 3 huge pieces. He thought they were just okay--he said they weren't very well-seasoned and kind of tough. He barely dove into the mountain of rice pilaf that came on his plate. My fried shrimp was also okay. Nothing to write home about, but it was big and not overcooked. The fries were potentially fresh--they had skin on them and weren't bad. The coleslaw was premade and fine. Every time the waitress refilled our water, she gave us mostly ice such that at some point we basically had glasses completely filled with ice. This place is like a well-preserved relic. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but weigh your options when you're in town. If this is the kind of food you like, then maybe you won't be as disappointed as we were. On vacation, we like to eat well, not eat meh. Unfortunately, this is how everything we ate in this mountain town could be described. read more

Wow ! was told this was the place to go to by local businesses, well they lost on all basic expectations ! all service related. Long wait times for drinks , long time for meal, no checking in while waiting. locals got to order When they came in after we did. ordered med/well tenderloin got med/rare. Waited for drink after meal was delivered. Sent it back and got well/done ! Wife was done eating by the time the "well/done" steak was delivered. Not a hint they would consider taking it off the bill , so just paid and got out of dodge no tip no return. read more

I visited this restaurant when I went on my snowboarding trip. I forgot the name of the place but revisited Okemo and passed by the restaurant. Their food is great! I had their sirloin tips which was awesome. Never had I had a 5 big pieces of sirloin where it was nicely cooked. The portions were so huge that I couldn't finish my meal. The salad bar was nice where we got to eat as much as we wanted. If you're ever visiting Okemo, you should definitely visit this restaurant. read more

This place has a history of being great and still shines today. One of my favorites is the baked crab stuffed shrimp with rice pilaf. Their stuffed mushrooms are amazing and the homemade hot fudge sundae is not to be missed They have a wonderful salad bar and good selection of drinks. Richie does a wonderful job keeping these wonderful recipes from the Infamous Damone Family fresh and up to date. Some say the decor is out dated but if it aint broke dont fix it! Finding parking is a nightmare so I would recommend trying to eat an early dinner anywhere in the immediate area. Dj's is a place that if the door is open for too long in the winter, can freeze you to the bone if you sit in the front. This restaurant has a FREE salad bar (all you can eat) so not recommending you get appetizers! We got the Chicken Cordon Bleu (highly recommend) and my son said he LOVED it. The Chicken Teriyaki has a HOMEMADE pineapple sauce that has an acquired taste. I had the Baked Scallops and some people liked the breadcrumbs that came with it, some didn't. The Steak Teriyaki was so-so as the mushrooms were not good and the steak sauce did not compliment the steak. The service was good as we didn't go without water for long and we got everything in a timely manner, it being New Year's Weekend. This was a very good experience and we would come back to this restaurant if we came to Vermont again. read more

Me and my colleagues were having a debate about the best beer. Beer after running a marathon, airport beer (while waiting waiting for departure to initial destination) but we came to the conclusion that the best beer is a beer with your mates after shredding the slopes. It was here at DJs that the ice cold talk glasses of one of the local ales on tap put the stamp on our argument as a post slope beer being supreme. As we embarked on our experience at DJs we were encountered by the most welcoming warm loaf of bread that was accompanied by a fragrant but light slab of butter. As we were famished from a long day of tearing up the slopes we wanted something to fill our bellies a bit more. It was here that a euphoric culinary experience was encountered by me and my mates. The Buffalo and sweet Thai chili wings left us breathless. The sauce was exceptional on both of the wings entangled with tangy and bold flavors. But wait there's more! The juiciness and crispiness cemented these wings as top 5 best wings I've ever had and let me tell you something I'm a huge wang guy. Please consider coming here for a drink but make sure to indulge in their bread in wings but also in good conversation with the sweet waitresses that contribute to this wonderful American establishment! read more

What a great, home style, great value restaurant. Gracious and attentive hostess and wait staff. Our waitress, Kassie, was so nice. She was good natured, caring and even funny. Kassie answered every question we asked about specials and menu items. My buddy, Jeff, had the duck special. He loved it. Still saying it's the best duck dish he has ever had. My buddy Michael and I went for the St. Louis style ribs, and were not disappointed. We all also had the salad bar. Delicious. I have been to DJs quite a few times and in every season of the year, the food has always been delicious and reasonably priced. During our stay at Okemo Ski Resort we decided to try this place for dinner. It was definitely a throw-back as other reviewers have stated. A more modern atmosphere would possibly bring this to 5 stars. I had ribs and others on our party had sirloin tips and barbecue chicken. All of the entrees had generous portions and were delicious. This place's divey vibe doesn't match the high prices. Dimly lit, outdated seventies decore is charming when you're getting a good deal on the food. Not the case here. At DJ's, the duck is $25 but the restaurant's cheap giant magic marker specials board was left leaning on a chair in the middle of the dining room. They are said to have a decent salad bar but you can't order it on its own - you need to get an expensive dinner item along with it. The place had empty booths and we were seated right away. We waited for 15 minutes without any acknowledgement from a server before deciding to walk out. I was taking a weekend out of the city, and as always went to Yelp for my choice of restuarant, and for the first time I was sorely disappointed I was greeted by a friendly hostess who immediately seated us at a table. I noted this, because other reviews claimed this place filled up year round, we were there at 8:00 on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty. Our waitress seemed very frazzled, but nothing was wrong on that end... I got a nice local brew for a beer, the lady got a margarita that looked pretty good (I'm not a tequila fan myself) and she seemed to enjoy. I ordered sirloin tips, the lady ordered shrimp marinara. While waiting we were asked to enjoy a side salad from the salad bar; nothing on the bar looked fresh, like all the toppings were straight out of a Sysco can. Every dressing was heavy, heavy creamy except for the italian that I went with, no variety there... Our food came, my steak tips looked and tasted ok, but the shrimp marinara was one of the most disappointing meals I had ever seen on a table. Four of the shrimp were still frozen together (with the sauce covering it, it looked like it may have been chicken), they were heated up but just looked like they had been unpacked. The linguini was either a day old or way over cooked and the marinara-basil sauce looked like it was dumped on just to cover everything up. The meal just looked...pathetic. My steak tips were cooked ok, but were pretty tough. It came with a plain old baked potato (this is not a negative, not much you can do with a baked potato). The overall meal was very, very diappointing and I would not return to this establishment. read more

This place is gross, and I should have known from the way it smelled when we first walked in. 1) The portions are humongous to the point that it is grotesque to even look at your plate. 2) The food is not just oily and salty, it's downright bad. 3) The all-you-can-eat salad bar looks like they snagged it from a high school cafeteria. What's worse-- my boyfriend and I ordered an appetizer and a main course to share, the waitress invited us to the salad bar, we went figuring it was included in the price of our meal (as the menu did not indicate otherwise), and only found out once the bill came that we were charged ten dollars for the visit to the salad bar we never wanted in the first place! 4) On the bright side, the waitress was pleasant, (until the tail end of the meal when she began talking to us about crazy dogs). read more

I love this restaurant! Even before I moved up here, I would go every time I visit. It is great quality food in a comfortable family environment. My mom loves the duck, and the running joke is that she comes up to have it rather than to see me. Other favorites are the stuffed shrimp, sirloin tips, fettuccine alfredo, and buffalo wings. Plus their rack of lamb is one of the best I have ever had. The portions are large and they have a superb salad bar. The staff is very friendly and great service. This is the place to go, but if you are going on a weekend during the winter, make sure you make reservations ahead of time. It is a jamming place. read more

D.J.'s is a nice little restaurant in Ludlow. It is located on the main drag and you can park on the street or on one of the side streets. It doesnt look to impressive from the outside, just looks like a little townie establsihment. There can be a bit of a wait, but they do have a bar that you can wait at. I went last September and it was busy on a Saturday night. The menu is decent and they have always have specials. I had the prime rib and it was excellent, as well as the mashed potatoes. You can get the salad bar option with your meal, which is something that I actually really like. They have great rolls as well. D.J.'s does not skimp on the portions. If you are starving and in or around Ludlow, you should most certaintly give it a try. You will not leave hungry. Friendly wait staff and very attentive. read more

If you are like me a couple weeks ago, sitting in the vicinity of Ludlow, VT, scanning Yelp, and wondering where to go for dinner....go to DJ's. We visited with the family just to enjoy some fall weather for a weekend. We ended up there for a couple chilly, rainy, somewhat foggy / cloudy (mountains mostly obscured) days. BUT, DJ's and a the few hours of sun and beautiful vistas that we managed to see made the trip worth it. We got in late our first night, and kind of stumbled upon DJ's via looking at some online reviews, including Yelp. The food here is really excellent. We had corn chowder, which was thick and warm and delicious. The kids gobbled it up. The warm homemade rolls are very tasty. The salad bar is not large, but is well maintained and fresh. We ate off their large specials menu both nights. I loved the meatloaf (portions are HUGE...so I also enjoyed it for lunch the next day). My husband, being a bit of a steak snob, was shocked that the prime rib was so good. He really enjoyed it. Desserts were great too.. We were stuffed! We ate here both nights we were in town, because it was so good the first night. The waitresses and hostess were extremely friendly and welcoming. They were so nice to our kids. Both nights they gave us a corner booth a little bit away from other diners so we could just relax and let the kids relax and spread out in the booth (without worrying about pulling the hair of someone behind us, etc). Our waitress gave us great ideas of where to visit during our stay. We really can't say enough about how kind everyone was to us, and I've read some reviews saying that the people they met at DJs and in Ludlow in general were standoffish and unfriendly....well, we found the complete opposite to be true. This place is a gem, and I hope we are back in Ludlow some day so we can go back to DJ's. read more

I don't really know where to begin. This place is a gem. Been coming to VT for quite a few years and have never found a place that has top notch service and food. We are foodies and we are super picky. We just love good food and don't mind paying for it. We chose DJ's at the last minute and man were we floored. We had a party of four and they were short handed but Darlene, our server, was absolutely amazing. We didn't feel rushed and she just had a super friendly personality. We loved her. The place was clean and super roomy. Our party shared two appetizers and we each had a salad and a main course. EVERYTHING was absolutely fresh and delicious. We didn't get one thing that wasn't amazing. The portions were huge and the pricing was incredibly fair. We were so impressed that we poked our head in the kitchen door to let Matt the owner and also the chef know that we were so in love with his restaurant and the food he made for us. If you are in Ludlow you have to stop here you won't be disappointed. read more

We spend a significant chunk of our winter up at Okemo and DJ's is just about the only restaurant I can still stand. The salad bar is a bit of a throw-back. You're going to find Russian and blue cheese dressings, not white balsamic vinaigrette. Iceberg lettuce, not spinach and arugula. But it's clean and everything is fresh. Your waitperson will bring out baskets of hot rolls and will also drag a white board of "specials" over to the table. Service is generally indifferent and slow, just like pretty much every where else in town. You're not in Ludlow to eat, that's for sure! As for food, I always go with either the stuffed shrimp or the haddock. I really like the shrimp, but if you're a person who enjoys seasoned food, you're going to need extra lemon and some salt and pepper for both dishes. My brothers have stuck with the teriyaki chicken for like, ten years. Nothing fancy, nothing inventive. It's a solid option in town. read more
