We stopped here for dinner and ate outside. The service behind the counter was great and we got our food fast. The quality for such a quick serve place was as good as we've been hearing. We got the New England clam chowder, fish and chips and a Connecticut lobster roll. Everything was very good and really hit the spot on a cool summer afternoon. Would definitely stop by for lunch or dinner any time we're in the area. read more

I was really excited to try this place after seeing that it was under new management and having wonderful Yelp reviews. Went in today for lunch - we ordered a lobster bisque soup, Grilled Garlic Shrimp Scampi Roll and the lobster quesadillas. We are big fans of lobster bisque and sadly this was probably the most disappointing one I've had. It tasted very acidic and we found no lobster in it whatsoever. Not at all worth $10. The grilled garlic shrimp scampi roll was super average. It was basically garlic bread with shrimp on it. The scampi aspect was totally absent - the shrimp had a very subtle lemon flavor to them. Value for the price was just ok. The lobster quesadilla was just ok. A few bites of it tasted fishy and fresh lobster isn't supposed to have that taste to it. And for $26.50 there was not enough lobster to justify the price. I'm not sure if we came on an off day but for that price, I can't say I'll be back again. Living on Long Island, there are so many other great seafoods spots. read more

Waited all summer to come here for the jumbo, overstuffed lobster roll, which costs a few cents more than $49. It was truly filled with copious amounts of freshly prepared, cold lobster of large pieces with just enough mayo & chopped celery on a perfectly grilled & buttered split-top hot dog roll. It was filling &, sitting amidst all the tropical, Florida-&-water sports themed interior design & listening to Jimmy Buffet & reggae music (with jarringly dissimilar police car chases show on the TV) was kind of fun. The only downside was that the lobster was not sweet at all, which was definitely disappointing. I wish it had been better but I still had a filling lunch in a festive place. read more

I had food from here during the Famous Food Festival, at Tanger Outlet, and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend the Cold Lobster Roll & Crab Cake roll. I loved the buttery bread, plus the service was quick and the staff was friendly. read more

Everything tastes better with butter! So keep your mayo off my crustacean!! When it comes to lobster rolls mayo is like a bad summer fling- cold, sloppy & can leave a weird taste in your mouth! Butter is the one you marry, its warm, rich& holds your life together!! Go Connecticut style!!! read more

DJ's Clam Shack delivers a hearty, playful take on seafood with both comforting classics and inventive twists. The lobster rolls, conch fritters, and lively atmosphere earn strong praise. Ideal for a casual meal, group outing, or craving something by the water. Just choose your location wisely and time your visit--quality and service can vary. Pro Tips 1.Go for the lobster roll--either classic or overstuffed, it's consistently the highlight. 2.Try the Kung Pao calamari or shrimp scampi roll for something different and flavorful. 3.Visit early for the best experience--expect the freshest food and optimal service. read more

Exactly what I wanted for my birthday. Delicious lobster roll. Perfect and everyone was so nice there too. I hadn't been there in a while and I will be back again soon. read more

Fair grub but a bit overpriced. Ordered a crab cake sandwich but received no bun. They claim they have new owners and currently don't have a license to sell beer and wine. Fries were quite greasy. Also ordered a cheese quesadilla but they don't stock salsa. Uncomfortable check out process where a tip box appears while the cashier stares. Is a tip warranted for handling food to customers over a counter? read more

Delicious seafood here at DJ's, we tried both the Maine and Connecticut style lobster rolls, as well as the shrimp quesadilla. Everything was great but the real winner was the blackened shrimp tacos! read more

I ordered 2 hot lobster rolls with coleslaw because fries were an up charge. Ordered an $8 New England clam chowder which was very good. Came with side crackers. The place was empty as it was the middle to January. The service was very good and the ambiance was cute, like a small beach shack. Totally bill was $65. My boyfriend ranked the warm lobster roll 8 out of 10, but my father in law ranked it 10 out of 10 and said it's the best he ever had! read more

these lobster rolls were 10/10. we ordered pickup and the hot rolls were still warm by the time we got home! we did two regular and one overstuffed. for me the regular was more than enough!! i leaned more towards the cold roll here but both were amazing. clam strips were not bad but nothing to rave about. if they have the ipswich those are great. hope to return for more soon! read more

Was so excited to try. Got one hot and one cold and split with a friend. Just fair. Wish I went somewhere else. Would not repeat. They also serve the part of the claw that's rubbery. I throw that away. Not great. Would rather pay more for better quality. It's a treat and this was not. I never leave food over and I did not finish this. Fries were really good. read more

Returned to NY to see my children and grandchildren, so no visit is complete without a return to DJ's... which we did !! This time, I got a shrimp scampi on a bun, and my husband got the calamari. We also got some of their clam chowder. It's so good that I won't share and want to eat it all myself. I made my husband get his own. :-) My mouth is drooling now just thinking about the soup. Everything was so tasty !! LOVE this place even if they are a bit on the pricey side. read more

We ordered take out from DJ's tonight - First time since its under new management. Their lobster bisque was delicious!! We also tried the hot lobster roll - it was stuffed and the bread was nice and buttery. We got a huge serving of clam strips and their fries were quite tasty as well. We'll definitely be back! read more

DJ's had always been a favorite of ours. So we were looking forward to celebrating my husband's birthday with Ipswich clams and a lobster roll. To our disappointment the clams were overcooked and the lobster was very dry! This is not what we were accustomed to from DJ's! But I will say the New England clam chowder was delicious! Is it the new owners who misstepped or was it just a bad night for DJ's? read more

First time here. I would go to their former site in East Northport but that has since closed. Ordered a crab cake sandwich and a lobster roll to go. Even on a Sunday, finding a parking spot was difficult. I was the only customer in the place, so can't imagine what it must be like to park during the week. The two employees were friendly, but the music was loud and ghastly. I wouldn't be able to eat in with that playing in the background. When I got home, the crab cake was on a toasted hot dog bun So maybe I got half a crab cake. That came with a small half filled cup of cole slaw---miniscule and tasteless. Can't answer for the lobster roll If I come back, maybe I'll stick to the clam chowder. read more

Food was made well ,service was friendly & professional. The food came out quick, and the staff was very young, but very professional. We came here after hiking one day for some quick take out. As my son suddenly felt sick the people sitting down couldn't be bothered to move (seriously) anyway my son then got sick on the floor, the girls working there couldn't be nicer. Unlike the people sitting down :P luckily I think it was just the heat so my boy was fine after, they even gave him some nice water. Our food was out quickly and was delicious. We left once our food was out but the 10 mins we were here was very nice. read more

~ Lobster Roll ~ We got the regular lobster roll, it is stuffed with a nice amount of fresh lobsters that tasted sweet and tender. The sauce is light and a bit citrusy, there are some celery bits in there that I quite enjoy as well, adding some nice texture and flavour to the lobster, whilst not overpowering the lobster taste. I wonder what the overstuffed lobster would look like, coz we feel like this is pretty stuffed already! read more

An actual lobster roll -not a pathetic mayonnaise sandwhich as some restaurants try to get away with . Very large portions - way bigger and better than B&B Clam in Amityville , whose lobster rolls have shrunk dramatically , with buns dripping with butter . After a few days in Montauck our ride home found us in need of nourishment. Thanks to Yelp we found DJ's. In we go and ordered food. Nice menu giving choices that even a picky eater can find something to eat. I've always found small little mom-pop stores to be a fun place to eat. I ordered the shrimp tacos and was very glad I did. The taco's was full of shrimp so each bite had a shrimp bite and was topped with a slaw that had what I believe was a mango in it. Very tasty. The tables did not have hot sauce but the taco didn't need any extra spice. Was very good. Taco's are served with a choice of french fries or cole slaw. (Previous shrimp taco's I've had come with a slaw on top, so I opted for the fries.) It is served with sufficient amount of fries that I just couldn't finish the plate. SO ordered fried calmari; tried a few and found them to be perfectly cooked (no rubber bands!). He also ordered a clam chowder; was very good. Was a good lunch/early dinner. read more

Really glad we stopped in for lunch today. Had a great meal of soups, lobster rolls, and split a side of fries. Both the chilled and hot rolls were good. Well cooked portion of lobsta meat. Loved the split top tall buttered toasted rolls - except they were stale. Definitely a really good lobster roll otherwise that should be in your list when you have a hankering. Next, will have to try the Ipswich clams. Also the lobster bisque didn't have any noticeable lobster in it. Not even a knuckle. read more

Enjoy luxurious lobster rolls? This spot is for you!!! Straight up I noticed the diners-drive in's-dives sign posted on the wall! Wowzers! Awesome! Ordered the overstuffed lobster roll. It was about $50. Costs about the same as 2 regular lobster rolls and not much more lobster in this one. The bread was soggy and fell apart quick. The top and the lobster pieces themselves were dry and flavorless. Had to ask for some butter on the side. Nothing special, overpriced, wouldn't get again. read more

Ordered 2 hot buttered overstuffed lobster rolls with a side of fries. Opened the box which was dripping with butter to find the most disgusting soggy fries and the lobster roll. The roll was soaked in butter, the lobster was not. I tried to reheat the fries in my air fryer but there was so salvaging them. It was as if they were fried in rancid oil. Sadly disappointed. read more

This place absolutely blew my mind. It is what it sounds like, a shack in what seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Came here for fathers day and made the one hour drive because of all the great reviews and I could not have been more pleased. Even my father who is tough to please enjoyed the food. The hot lobster rolls were to die for and was a fan favorite. Sadly we came a little later in the day and most of the items were already sold out. I wanted to also try the clam strips and the crab cakes but there was nothing left. Clam chowder was great too read more

I was here 2 years ago and finally made a return visit. This time I was less impressed Hot lobster roll was dry tasting, why? It should be buttery delicious but it wasn't. There was a nice portion of lobster but it was dried out. The bread it was on was fresh. We also tried the Ipswich fried clams, a total disappointment and a waste of $28. The covering was a corn meal dredge which we didn't mind but the whole bellied clams were nothing but a fried mess of clam poo. They were big and squishy and oozed a black gunk that was all over the whole box once you pierced them with a fork. I've been eating clams for over 50 years and never had any as bad as these. I've had clams with guts before but never clams that looked like they could produce their own oil spill on land. The French fries were nice and crispy. read more

Finally made it here. Who knew it was so close to Jones Beach which we visit often throughout the summer. Casual spot with mostly indoor dining. There was one table set for 4 but a Sunday in July no way to hot. The New England style clam chowder was incredible. Sweet clams, potatoes and mushrooms in a perfectly creamy rich soup base. The baked clams were the best I've ever had. Stuffed to the top with a delicious garlicky kick. I went for the lobster roll but got to say all 3 had star power‼ They offer both hot and cold lobster rolls. I opted for Connecticut style which is served warm in a toasted bun. The lobster roll was OUTSTANDING. The bun was toasted on both sides to perfection. Good size, held up with each bite. So many times the bun goes limp or disintegrates with each bite of a CT lobster roll. Not this one. The market price was only $26. For such a great roll it was a good price. I savored each bite thinking when can I return for another. read more

My mom decided that for Mother's Day she wanted DJs. What a good choice it was. We got the fried clams, New England clam chowder, Lobster Rolls, and baked clams. It was a feast to say the least but everything was amazing! The lobster rolls are packed to the brim. The clam chowder is so chunky and not just with like fillers quality clam meant and same goes for the baked clams. The clam strips are always just so good!! I can't say anything bad. They kindly offered helped to my car if needed and it was hot and ready when I got there to pick it up. Thanks DJs for providing a great Mother's Day meal for my mom's day (We dug in before I got pictures) read more

Been wanting to try this place out since I missed going to the one in Key West. Since it's Father's Day weekend I requested this place. A little disappointed. Food was good, a little salty. Place is small (maybe 6-7 tables for about 20ish people), service is kind of weird. Cashier was friendly and gave us details of everything, which helped. The guy who I would guess is the manager was not friendly at all. Seemed to have a scowl on his face which was off putting. Portions were okay. I always want more lol two orders of conch fritters (6 per order), Ipswich clams, blackened mahi mahi tacos (you get 2 - see pic), a warm lobster roll and three beers for the three of us - some might consider that $110 for lunch is pricey but I think it was an okay deal. I'll be back for the fritters tho - so happy I don't have to go to Florida for them anymore lol read more

So we stopped in after a day out. Sat in the car nearby to eat. Which means we were... 60 feet away? Not like the food had to sit around after being fried. This will matter in a minute. First, the lobster roll. Small pieces of tail. Hardly succulent. Dry. Chewy. Either overcooked or frozen. Lots of claw meat. The bread, which was totally soaked in butter, was good. Because butter. And then there was (were?) the Ipswitch clams. Remember clam strips? From Howard Johnsons? Little deep fried things? So the clams here were...rubberized strips of rubber...attached to tiny tasteless lumps of Ipswitch bellies that after being fried all formed themselves together into a sodden, soggy lump of breaded mush with some tasteless pieces of, I guess, clam. We threw them out. The french fries were great. read more

Sadly it's not what it once was. I've been to the DJs in Key West a number of times and loved when they came to Wantagh. It became a frequent stop of ours. We went last week and got cold lobster rolls. They added A LOT more filler than just celery (had cabbage now) and the lobster pieces were much smaller and chopped. I know prices for supplies have gone up but so have the prices for their lobster rolls. I'm happy to pay more for the food as long as it's the same old quality you could expect. Unfortunately right now it seems like the prices went up and the quality went down. Hopefully things can take a turn for the better. read more

So Far DJ's Clam Shack is the best spot on Long Island for an amazing Lobster Roll. I came in with high expectations since they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives & they did not disappoint. Me & my friends ordered the Hot & Cold Lobster Rolls, the Shrimp Roll, Kung Pao Calamari, & the Crabs. What stood out the most was the lobster & shrimp roll. You could see the steam coming off of the rolls. The lobster & shrimp was as fresh as they come. I've had some amazing Lobster Rolls in Boston & DJs Lobster Rolls are in the same league. You get 2 crab cakes but they are pretty small, well compared to Maryland Crab Cakes which is where I'm from. The taste is what matters and they were delicious. The last thing was the Kung Pao Calamari. Very good but the sauce is a little heavy even though it's delicious. Might go for the regular Calamari next time. The staff is very friendly and everyone wears a mask. Love DJs, I'll definitely be back read more
