Love this place - everything is really good - I especially love their birria tacos and the la gringa Hawaiiana. The al pastor tacos are also a favorite. They also have a bunch of salsas available - just ask! The woman who works there always has the biggest smile on her face; she seems really sweet. Came here a bit late on a Monday night for dinner. My friends had been telling me how good this place is for quite awhile, so when the taco cravings kicked in Taco El Chingon answered the call. The place might be a little on the small side but don't let that fool you, this place is packed with plenty of flavor. The interior is trendy and clean, a couple of places to sit if you feel inclined to stay awhile, but you can take out just as easily too. I wish I could give more than 5 stars for service, the woman behind the counter was sweet as could be and had no problem serving us even though we came in so late. Food also came out quick. Food was excellent and dare I say some of the best tacos I've ever had! We had the chips and guac to start and everything was as fresh as could be. The tacos we got were the carnitas, the chicken, beef rib, the Al pastor, and the carne asada. It's hard to pick just one favorite, but if you're only having one taco (like some sort of crazy person) my pick is on the carnitas. Perfectly juicy and flavorful. And let me tell you, they don't shy away from stuffing these tacos full, you get every last penny worth. Honorable mention to the chicken, a lot of places just phone their chicken in, but their chicken is actually good and flavorful! They have such a vast menu of a dozen other options at least that I want to try that will keep me coming back for more. Parking can be a little tight in the shared lot when it's busy, but there is also some side street parking available too if you don't mind a little extra walk. read more

It is the size and layout of a Chinese takeout, but they put some effort into the decor. This place really needs to get it together. It's a nightmare. They have no real structure. They are expanding stores without taking care of their other locations first. There is a line that's out the door for people who didn't call ahead. And then a pick up window but with no rhyme or reason as to when yours is ready. So you just stand there and everyone takes turns asking for their food but nobody's is ever ready. I ordered two very easy items ahead of time on the phone at 6:13. So I can go pick them up with the hopes of them being ready. I was quoted 20 mins over the phone. I show up and there's one lady taking new orders and another lady taking phone orders. Both ignoring everyone who needs to pick up. Because who cares right? They already got your money. I'm waiting upwards of 45 mins for my 20 min quoted nachos and quesadilla. It's now 7:00. Then I see people who were on the in store line who arrived 25-30 mins after my pre ordered phone call and they are sitting down eating their food. That they just ordered. The food is great but not worth my family starving and waiting for me to bring home food an hour later. read more

Just moved to Wantagh from Long Beach, which is a Mexican food desert. El Chingon is still the best on the South Shore. Even better since the remodel. Very quaint and clean. Maybe 10 tables with counter service. The ladies who work there are friendly and efficient. Now it's a 3 minute drive. read more

Whole menu is always available. At 10 AM I am ordering steak tacos! That's a win in my book, because I was afraid they wouldn't have the whole menu so early. Tried the chorizo, chicken taco was extremely good. Guacamole is fire here. I ate an entire bowl. Also got a steak quesadilla for the kids which they devoured and birria for me. I don't want to say too much b/c I almost don't want too many people to know about this place because this has by far been the best Mexican Food I've had on LI since I moved here from LA. The flautas were the right amount of crispy without hurting your teeth or being gummy and the chicken was so tender inside, perfectly seasoned. My husband had the burrito and said it was better than the burrito he had from this little hole in the wall in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. Service was fantastic and very helpful. Before I had to pleasure to stop by, I was reading some of their reviews, and they were mostly excellent, and I have to agree, as I walked in I was greeted very politely by a nice woman, she explained the items to me on the menu, I took the order to go, and everything was cooked. Exactly the way I wanted it it was prompt, and when I got home, everything was delicious. This is Authentic Street Mexican food,, Plenty of room to sit down, they have a dining room right next to the kitchen, but you do have to water at the counter. The cheese quesadilla was juicy, with a touch of cilantro, made it even better. I also recommend the traditional three birria tacos w/consome dipping sauce, their burrito el chignon w/shirt steak was amazing a meal within itself , The black beans and cheese and spices were so fresh and flavorful, they also have desserts tres leches and Flan,, Hope to try that next time,, but I also recommend you try their authentic homemade style drinks My favorite was Horchata , Very creamy with a touch of caramel, the Jamaican was very good , you can taste the fresh juice, and the tamarin was wonderful,,breakfast platter & burritos are served all day , Very extensive menu, they also have soda waters and kids menu read more

The al pastor & chorizo tacos were off the charts phenomenal. The skirt steak tacos were good too but under flavored/salted IMO. Will definitely return to try more of the other offerings such as the combos & daily specials. Was overwhelmed by the menu TBH, but in a good way causing both my colleague & I to each take home a torta cubano as well..... Service was super friendly & inviting. Listen, I'm calling it. For 2021 Taco El Chingon has the best tacos I ever tasted on Long Island. I came here twice and I still couldn't believe the quality. For me, I always order the holy trinity of tacos: Al Pastor Chorizo Lengua Put that deliciousness on a homemade corn tortilla and you have a Bill S party right there! I was also given their homemade sauces, avocado and a smokier chili sauce. Both sauces have elevated their tacos to rock star status. One of the special touches, I noticed the Al Pastor taco had pieces of pineapple?? Now that's classy! It just made for a more enjoyable taco. The way Taco El Chingon perfectly cooks each meats, they bring out the flavors and its not hidden by onions or cilantro. I came here twice and both times the quality of the cook came to me perfectly which is a talent. The interior restaurant is closed for seating. There's a tent outside but it was packed. I opened the back of my Jeep and made my own dining room. I'll stand in the parking lot to enjoy these tacos, there's no shame in my game. The tacos, I understand this is "street food" but for what's being presented it could be served at any 5 star restaurant. Someone once commented on a past review, I liked a lamb taco at another spot. They wrote a review saying Bill S, the tacos are expensive! The tacos being served at Taco El Chingon are at a great price point and taste amazing. We've been eyeing this spot for a while and I'm not sure why we haven't ordered from this spot earlier. This local gem hits all the right notes on flavors. Just the right balance to satisfy the palate. You can tell that the dishes are fresh and they really season the dishes very well. I also like they have the option of traditional tacos or American tacos since I'm more of stick to traditional where my husband likes the more American crispy shell style. With the order they provided many sauces. Each one has different levels of heat intensity. One had more smokey flavor as well. My favorites are the shrimp, carnitas and lengua tacos. I also shared the machete classico with my sister once and we both enjoyed that dish as well. One of the recent times they gave us rice pudding on the house which was a great sweet note to end the meal.
