I was headed out on my quest for a new and exciting place for lunch break, and had to try the "new hummus spot" on 17th & Sansom, because nobody could properly pronounce the real name. Well, Dizenhoff, bravo. Your hummus was phenomenal. I had the hummus with corn combo. The hummus was so smooth, with the perfect amount of olive oil poured on top. Great presentation , even in my to-go container! All the hummus dishes come with a huge, warm, fluffy, easy to rip open pita, which was one of the best pitas I've ever tasted. The side of cauliflower/pickle/onion/beet mix was also good, but I wouldn't order it alone. For the steep $10 you pay for a hummus plate, it was nice to get a little more than just hummus. There's really no front door, the entire "garage" style wall opens up and you just walk right in to order at the register. If you're looking to sit down, look elsewhere, there's only 2-3 small picnic tables inside. This place is clearly meant for carry out only!! The staff were funny and awesome, even when the long line was out the door and down the sidewalk. The Israel decor was vibrant and kept your eyes entertained. Overall: Amazing hummus. The pita is warm and fluffy, get the extra one bc you'll want it! We had the tahini and carrot hummus. The tahini one has this amazing olive oil that I could not stop dipping in! Really, really liked Dizengoff. The space is fairly small with seating for about 15 or so inside. They have some outdoor seating also. The inside is fairly simple, pleasant, clean and funky industrial with wooden picnic tables. We ordered the Chard Pesto and the Chicken hummus and 3 orders of bread. This was enough for the 3 of us for lunch. The hummus was fantastic and flavorful. The accompaniments were excellent also; cucumbers, pickled onions and pickles. It was a really great lunch on a warm day in May. Dizengoff has a rotating menu. We had a frozen lemonade which was nice and tart. Dizengoff serves beer and soda also. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The music was almost a duplicate from my iPhone playlist which was an added bonus. I will definitely be back and it will be soon. Fantastic experience overall! Can't wait to come back. The newly re-done/ expanded space is colorful, comfortable and well designed. I appreciated the vintage concert posters from Tel- Aviv used as wallpaper by the bar, and it was cool to see the pita being baked from the open kitchen. The staff were all friendly and professional. The host was very personable and upbeat, and the manager checked in/ touched the table a few times. I appreciated that the server asked about any allergies/ dietary restrictions. I've noticed this at a few Cook & Solo spots. Everything the kitchen sent out was spot on and super delicious. Beautifully presented, balanced, seasoned, etc.- Not a flaw I could think of. I've long been a fan of Dizengoff's hummus dishes and am plenty happy to have that alone as a meal, but this new menu/execution from the kitchen was just high level! I'm not sure if it was because they knew it was my guys birthday, but the kitchen sent out an extra salad and side, which were both really great. The sides of P'kaila, and the Rice Pilaf were SO tasty, I don't think I've ever had a better rice pilaf. My friend and I were just roaming the city when we bumped into this place! It was such a coincidence Bc we were craving hummus bowls for like a good couple months! We had no idea this place served that type of food (we never heard of this place). They had different types of hummus you could choose from. I had no idea pita and hummus could be a satisfying meal, but thanks to Dizengoff I have been enlightened! I tried the beef stew and found it to be one of the best I've had at a restaurant. No stringy, chewy chunks of beef here. Just moist, fork-tender beef that went perfectly with the hummus both in texture and flavor. The thick, creamy hummus was made even better by the soft, puffy homemade pita. And don't forget the house made pickles and salad! The tart cucumber salad was a refreshing accompaniment in-between bites of beef stew hummus. I'm just completely in love with the concept of a Humusiya, and Solomonoff executed perfectly on it. Dizengoff illustrates the power of focus: concentrate on just one specialty and perfect all details related to it. Much that I hate showing up at the same place repeatedly, there was a time last year when it's as if my feet were on auto-pilot when it came to lunch time. Always a fan of the silkiest possible hummus at Zahav, it was fun to just grab a spot at one of the communal tables and hear stories from what I think is the most eclectic clientele in Philly: students debating summer travel or future professional goals, visitors plotting the rest of their afternoon, people from the suburbs relaxing before continuing with their shopping, couples on a date, families, students with out-of-town parents, stroller moms, "foodies", residents of nearby apartment buildings... It's quick. You'll get served in less than 5 minutes. It's casual. It's affordable. Damages are less than $12. There's something for everyone: variety for the carnivore (fried chicken skins, ground lamb, beef) not just the vegetarian. Carboholics should love the fluffy hot pita (even if I love the Laafa at Zahav more). Spice heads can get one of the spiciest versions of Shakshuka on Sundays. I swear, it burns me up inside later, even if I pay no attention to the heat while chowing down with the accompanying Focaccia bread. Fans of the Frozen Lemonnana (Israeli mint lemonade) at Zahav can get their fill of that here. There's a solid beer list... I'd say: Come one, come all. I like the concept that many Philly hummus spots are adopting by focusing on the hummus as the main and other stuff as the add-ons. I got the Chicken hummus with an extra pita since I knew it'd be enough for two meals. The pitas are made fresh, but don't exactly do well when not eaten within a few hours, so keep that in mind when ordering. They're a bit thinner than some spots in the city, which works for some people. I think I was missing the more classic garlicky, thick hummus that I'm used to rather than Dizengoff's more creamy, almost soup-like texture. As I said, this works for some people, and it's definitely not bad, it just isn't something I'm a super fan of. Oh, the salad is pretty standard, hard to mess that up! read more

Although it's on the salty side.  I think this is the most expensive Hummus one could get.  And if you order the hummus with the addition of meat (which they give you very little) you are paying about 18 dollars. Dizengoff is one of my favorite quick neighborhood eats. I've been meaning to try their shakshuka but I usually get the classic tehina hummus with a pickled egg and maybe an extra pita. If you're going to the Whole Foods location, having some veggies to dip can be a nice addition. The vegetables cut the salt, which can get to be a lot if you're eating an entire order at once. On my last day in Philadelphia, my boyfriend and I stopped by here for a quick brunch. This place is one of a kind and very good. I have never eaten anything like this before, but wow, I now wish I could find a place like this locally. If you've ever had hummus before, you'd be forgiven for thinking '$10+ for hummus? No way'. I'm a believer now though. The texture of the hummus is second to none, and they make their own 'pillowy' pitas in a fire oven. I had the hummus with chicken which was great - although by the end the need for the beet sides became very evident since the hummus itself is a bit garlic-y I also absolutely loved the vibe of this place! Think 'hole in the wall', without any of the 'hole in the wall' cons (i.e. Dizengoff had great music, was clean, but small with communal tables). There is a hummus place in Palo Alto called Oren's and it haunts my dreams. After hummus from a Jerusalem market, Oren's has the most delicious concoctions of chickpeas in North America. Dizengoff gives Oren's a run for its money. The hummus is insanely creamy, the olive oil is rich and deep, the pita is pillowy perfection, and the salad that comes with the platter could have graced Moses' own table.
