    fennel salad

We visited Mish Mish over the summer for my birthday dinner, and it was such a lovely dinner. Mish Mish is one of many wonderful restaurants in East Passyunk, and we enjoyed wandering around the block (it was Passeggiata that Thursday in July) before our reservation. We made it over to the restaurant just in time for our res, and we were quickly seated by the window, perfect for enjoying golden hour. The interior is so quaint, modern, and cute, and the seating outside is just perfect for people watching and enjoying a warm day. The hospitality was wonderful, starting with our server giving us thoughtful recs on wine and dishes. When another server served us our wine and to check in on us, I commented that he looked super familiar, asking where else he worked prior in the city. Come to find out, that "server" was actually the owner and brains behind Mish Mish! I *love* when owners / chefs mingle with their guests and insert themselves into the work flow - this proves that they are 1) human and 2) care about the diners' experiences so intimately. Having a conversation with him was so memorable and really made the night shine! On to the food ... the menu is small but features only thoughtfully curated dishes. Nothing is delineated as a "starter" or a "main," so we were advised to get a variety of dishes to share. We worked our way through the menu with a lot of recs from our server, as mentioned. The fried string cheese we started our meal with was so fun and quirky, but oh so delicious - it wasn't too heavily fried but was still reminiscent of a more elegant cheese sticks of years past. We moved on to the shaved fennel salad, which featured olives, herbs, and semolina croutons - a light dish with lots of fresh flavors. For our more "heavy" dishes, we went for the braised pork shoulder with a tamarind barbecue sauce and apricots and the grilled swordfish with lime crema. The pork was so tender, and the sweetness of the apricots juxtaposed with the bitter radicchio / horseradish salad just made the dish work. The swordfish was sooo meaty, in the best way; it was a substantial bite! The lightness of the lime sauce with the fresh herbs perfectly balanced the seafood and made for an excellent summer dish. Our meal was nicely paired with a few glasses of wine that matched all the dishes and was refreshing on a warm summer day. We did not indulge in dessert (birthday cake was waiting for us at home), but I would love to try their options on future visits! Mish Mish is a touch on the pricier side, but for the ambience, the quality, and the hospitality, it is well worth it. I would love to make it for the "golden hour" menu this coming spring / summer to enjoy more of their small plates! Overall, we had an excellent dinner at Mish Mish - would highly recommend to anyone around East Passyunk who is looking for fun, fresh, and delicious shareable plates!

Really enjoyed my visit! The staff was friendly, the service was smooth, and everything I ordered was delicious. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back.

Very nice and enjoyable dinner experience! This small restaurant has a great neighborhood feel. Service is very friendly and attentive. The decor is minimal and the focus is on service and excellent food. There is a relatively small menu made up of small plates. They recommend ordering several for sharing. Lots of vegetarian options. Everything we had was delicious. The Armenian string cheese was excellent, the asparagus had a really great flavor. Definitely recommend giving them a try.

Had the loveliest time dining here this past Thursday. I love the upscale, local, farm to table energy. The restaurant really is beautiful in a cozy, no frills way, with warm wooden accents, white walls, big tables, and a center table filled with bottles of wine. I ordered a funky effervescent red, the Cinsault, that was different than any wine I've had recently and was very tasty! Alex, the owner/ our server made several recommendations on the list that made me very pumped for our meal. We also loved how integrated he was into the service at the restaurant and how he stopped by every table. All of the food was delicious, upscale and well thought out. Definitely recommend going here if you also are into Illata, local prix-fixe restaurants. Flavors were very unique. I am still thinking and will still think about the cabbage with Asian pears and ginger mayonnaise - I could eat 10 of these in a sitting. The pork was also standout - balancing American homey flavors and Asian complex flavors. My ultimate favorite however was dessert (poached apricots with coconut cream yogurt and lemon rind) it was refreshing, not too sweet, spicy, and unlike anything I've had before. I can't wait to return for a special night out!

Okay I went back, and they changed their menu. That string cheese is still the best thing on the menu. We went with a group of 5, and it's pretty tough sharing these small plates with everyone. Menu is still pretty small as well. I think if I'm opting for small plates, I'll go to a tapas place with a larger variety that are much cheaper. I'm only coming back if someone else is buying. FYI, their "cheese plate" dessert was far from a fan favorite. The waitress described it as something that had all the components of a cheese plate in one bite, which it did. We liked the praline crunch, but they way she described it made it seem like there would be a dusting of cheese on the top. However, it was like en entire shaved wheel, and it was overpowering.

My boyfriend and I came here for a belated Valentine's Day weekend and we were so excited to try the food! Mish Mish has been on our list for quite a while. As soon as we walked in, the ambiance was 10/10. The restaurant has a cozy yet chic and intimate vibe which was perfect for a Valentine's Day dinner. The staff was also very prompt, kind, and welcoming. We started with the fried string cheese which was a fun dish to order. We also got the eggplant, the cod, and the squash. The eggplant was not great. It had a weird tasting tomato sauce and the texture was mushy. It came with some sourdough bread which was great. The squash was covered in another weird sauce that was overly salty and really ruined the dish in my opinion. I liked the cod. It was buttery and perfectly cooked. However, it didn't blow us away. We finished with a totally average chocolate cake that tasted similar to one I could've bought at a grocery store. I am giving only three stars because the food was really just okay.. for the cost of this meal we could've gotten a really nice and delicious dinner at another upscale restaurant. The owner of Mish Mish is a former food critic so he has clearly tasted a lot of the cream of the crop meals in Philadelphia, however, this was not it. Thinking back, my favorite part of the meal was the side of bread accompanying the eggplant dish not any of the actual dishes. The couple next to us was seated right as we were finishing our meal and they asked us what we liked best.. we struggled to come up with an answer which is not a good sign! We likely will not be coming back unless there is a large revamp to the menu.

Sweet plantain bread... dry AF -- couldn't even finish it

So I wanted to go somewhere nice and new for our anniversary. We looked up a lot of the popular restaurants and looked NYT lists and a bunch of other lists and saw this place was in all these top lists so thought we should give it a try! I was super excited and the menu looked great as well and had a lot of options for my mostly vegetarian husband. To be honest I was super underwhelmed by all the food. The menu is pretty small but the cocktail menu is only like 4 drinks. We got the fried string cheese, whipped potatoes, chicken kabobs and mackerel. It was allll so meh, I'm super disappointed. I was super hyped for this place too. For dessert there are only two options and we went with the sweet plantain bread with white ganache and hazelnuts. Literally it was so dry and tasted like grocery store baked goods. The white ganache tasted like frosting from a jar.... The service and ambiance were great and that's what my stars are for. Food wise -- not impressed at all.

What a vibe! The restaurant has a simple and clean interior (we really liked the limewash walls), with seating that surrounds the center working station for the staff & each seat provides a great view of the kitchen. Plenty of seating outside as well...if you can strike a good day of weather, I would recommend trying to make a reservation for outdoor seating, only because the inside is tight and can get a little loud. We also loved their music playlist - you can check it out on Spotify...we've been using it lately during our own dinner preparation at home. Service was great - very attentive and informative. They were helpful with selecting dishes and wine. Our favorite interaction was when it came time to order dessert, where we were informed that the vagueness of the desserts was "intentional," to spark more conversation if interested. Naturally, we needed to hear more & we were sold on both options. The "cheese plate" dessert was an interesting play on creating single bites that combined flavors of cheese, jam, and nuts. It was interesting to say the least - one of those things you won't find anywhere else. Very savory & cheese forward, so if that's not your thing, then I would opt for the second option (which in our case was a neopolitan cake). All of the food was good! I personally, was much more interested in the small plates, so we ordered a handful of different options. Plates that stood out: - Fried string cheese: another dish that we haven't found anywhere else. A fun interpretation of mozz sticks, but served more in a funnel cake form and a delicious marinara dipping sauce. - The little tomatoes were amazing as well! A creative execution of a Panzanella salad. Very excited to go back, and in a sea of incredible options to choose from in Passyunk, Mish Mish has quickly risen to one of our favorites in the neighborhood.

We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

I felt like I ordered the wrong combination. I was able to do an egg sandwich and swap for sourdough bread vs eng muffin. Love that. Didn't love the copper sharp cheese that was a bit messy and tangy. I kept thinking they must have added some type of sauce on it. I'd much rather come back for a simple fried egg combo and chedda cheese. I was also offered sparkling water, but I do wish it had more fizz. The service start to finish was superb in friendly and fast service. I'd come back for mimosa/bar for sure.
