Stopped by awhile back at this Ballard location for a Yelp event. For this second visit (7/3/24), it was perfectly situated between Sonic Boom Records and Pestle Rock. Last visit I had just a classic milk tea, this time I had an iced Vietnamese coffee milk tea. It hit the spot and enjoyed it with my Kao Soi nearby. Decent, but not overly strong. If you also enjoy phin coffee, with its smack you upside the head strong, iykyk. Usually my challenge when visiting here or their Fremont location are street parking cost and availability. They need to fix their online ordering system!! I tried ordering through the toast app yesterday because I had a BOGO coupon, but every time I tried placing my order I just got a message that the order failed. I went into the store and showed them this and they told me they couldn't do anything, but it's insane because this has been happening for quite a while and my coworkers have said that the online ordering doesn't work for them either. I really don't understand why getting this fixed doesn't seem to be a priority for them at all? I left without getting anything because it was frustrating. And to be clear, it isn't the minimum wage workers I'm frustrated with, but whoever manages this location that has let their online ordering be down for this long and not fixed it. I work in the area and being able to place an online order and then go pick it up when it's ready would allow me to get drinks while I'm on the clock, but since I can't do that I simply don't have the time to wait for them to make it while I'm still working. I usually don't say this, DO NOT COME here. I stumble to this boba shop when I was exploring the Farmer's Market around the area. Little did I know I'd pay for the worst boba I'd ever have in my entire life. I got the white peach oolong milk tea with tapioca. The Tapioca was the only somewhat decent thing. It was chewy and right amount of sugar taste. As for the drink itself, no milk flavor, no oolong tea, and it was super super water down. The service was extremely quick but my guess was the tea already prepared ahead. They might have added a lot of ice in the prepared bucket. When I got the drink I was surprised how quick it was to be made and how the color doesn't look right for a milk tea drink. How do you have a milk tea boba but doesn't have any milk taste? If you're in Ballard and you want boba, DIY is pretty much the only place to get it. That's actually the reason why we stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon. We got one drink: Classic Ruby Black Milk Tea, 50% Sugar, Less Ice w/ Boba ($6.25) - Interesting preparation here - the milk tea is presweetened, prebrewed, premixed with non-dairy creamer, and placed in the tea dispensers (I wonder how often the dispensers get cleaned). For the black tea, they have one dispenser with 100% sweet and one with no sweet. If you change the sweetness level, like I did, they mix the two together appropriately to get your desired sweetness level. In terms of the drink itself, the tea taste isn't particularly fragrant, but has a good black tea taste. Not the best tea, but good for a shop that doesn't brew tea to order. 50% sweet is not too sweet in this drink (probably around 25-30% sweet vs other places), and it allows the tea taste to come through. The boba is only very slightly harder than I prefer so it has a pretty good chew. DIY Tea Lab shares the same storefront with a poke place and the employees work on both sides. The store wasn't staffed that well when we visited - only two people combined for both the poke and the boba. The boba half actually wasn't staffed at all when we came in - we had to order at the self serve kiosk, and then someone walked over from the other side to make the drink. It wasn't a problem since we visited in a less busy time, but if they don't have more people at peak hours, I could see things taking much longer. I would definitely stop by again if in the area. This location is good enough for me to want to go to their other branches around Seattle. read more

My kids absolutely love this place! My fave is the winter melon, my son's is the strawberry lychee and my daughter loves the smoothies. You can also customized to make less sweet which is great. Service is always good and ambience is cute plus there's a poke shop in here and they do combo deals sometimes. read more

I like this place. I really do. You order on a screen and then the machines tell the human what to do and voila, you have a decent tea with boba. But then you take note of your surroundings: the power outlets under the counter in the window blocked off so you can't charge your phone; a smudge of snot on the wall that has been there for at least a year; windows that bear noseprints and hazy swales of this or that; leaves and branches blown in by the passing busses but nobody sweeps the doorway; a fly-screen in the door that gives guests an opportunity to laugh as they hold the screen aside for someone on the other side. This place was good! The flavors were good. It wasn't the best boba place I've ever been to, but it was casual, laid back, and the employees were nice. Don't expect authentic, super high-quality drinks, but you can expect higher than average quality. I would elect to go here over many other boba places in the area. Try it! Delicious bubble tea for any occasion! I stopped by DIY Tea Lab while in the neighborhood with a few friends and had a good experience. We ordered off the touch screen at the counter, which was self explanatory. I did notice that some drinks were more customizable than others, for example "less sugar" vs "25% or 50%", but overall the usual options were present. There were a couple employees around to help and make our drinks, which came out super fast! The boba was still warm and soft in the drinks, so make sure to give it a good shake! read more

I am happy to report mine had 0 sugar!! I also really like the boba cup. The lid has plastic cover for closing the mouth making it easier to carry it to go. Two of the things I enjoy are milk tea and musubi's and how exciting that I can have both at the same time at the same location. I popped in here after work from South Lake Union, which was a short drive to Ballard. No parking lot, so find parking on the street. When you enter one side has DIY Tea Lab and across the other side is Just Poke. I felt kind of bad for the gal working at DIY because she was so adorable and friendly and it was so busy, she had to do everything alone and I can feel and see she got a smidge flustered, but she powered through. Came to DIY Tea Lab as part of the Elite Experience and definitely glad I was invited! When you walk in, there are two different counters to order at. The first is the Boba counter, where you can order from their menu and customize your drink with the sweetness level and types of popping pearls or jellies. I ordered a Lovely Lychee with lychee and rainbow jellies. The first one I got was overly sweet, as I forgot to ask for half the sweetness level. The employee was extremely kind and offered to make me another one... which tasted perfect! The lychee flavor was prominent and spot on. The second counter is the Poke station, where you can customize poke bowls. They also have freshly made Musubi, which is a piece of spam and white rice wrapped in seaweed! You could clearly taste how fresh it was... the rice was t cooked perfectly and the spam was as well. Overall, I definitely recommend and will be back to try other Boba tea flavors! read more

Thank you Yelp experience for introducing me to this adorable bubble tea and poke shop. I got the brown sugar boba with milk tea. It was so creamy and the brown sugar was deliciously sweet. I got 50% sweetness and that was plenty. You get to choose your sweetness and ice amount. The musubi was warm and moist (in a good way haha). There was some sort of hoisin or oyster sauce on it that added a hint of sweetness to the salty spam. The interior is adorable and there is plenty of seating with outlets in case people are looking for a spot to work. Really awesome and attentive staff here with great suggestions. Disappointing experience. I ordered a mango green tea, which is my go-to option, and it was so bad. It was overly sweet with no real tea flavor--it tasted like sugar water, not mango tea. I wouldn't recommend this place if you actually enjoy the taste of tea. You self-order on a kiosk, and if you want a plain tea with no toppings, you have to customize it yourself. What's frustrating is that it ends up costing $1+ more for literally fewer ingredients than the preset drink options, which doesn't make sense or feel right. read more

We first noticed there are two establishments through the same door. One side is poke the other side serves Boba. The eat in area is shared. One neat thing is if you order a pole bowl a regular size Boba drink comes free with your order! We had dinner already so we went with a drink only. Both drinks were delightful, and we found it interesting that drinks come without Boba or jellies adder, which at first seemed atypical, bit we learned that each drink is more customizable this way. Both the staff at DIY Tea Lab and Just Poke greeted us upon entering. When ordering, the staff at DIY Tea Lab kindly asked about my preference for sweetness and ice. I thought that was really thoughtful to ask and not assume the customer knows the options for ordering. The tea was really refreshing. I got it half sweet and without the foam topping (I think that was an additional option, but I got choice paralysis and said no). The foam would have been nice probably to add some sweetness and cream, but I like a simple black tea nonetheless. The spam musubi was also pretty good; can't go wrong with tasty, saucy spam.
