Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #65 I've been to two other DIY Tea Lab locations and found the drinks they serve to be pleasant. Since I was in the area for an event, I decided to drop by the Fremont location for a drink after lunch. As with the others, this DIY Tea Lab is paired with a poke place and seems to be a great choice to get both food and a sweet drink at the same time. They even have a couple of 30 minute loading zone parking spots in front of the shop, making it easy to drop in and out for pickup. Ordering is done on a kiosk and the drinks come out fast. Classic Milk Tea, 50% Sugar, Less Ice w/ Boba ($7) - This drink has a decent black tea flavor combined with perhaps a bit too much creamer, but mostly consistent in richness and flavor with the other two DIY Tea lab locations I've been to. The ice level is a bit too much at half, but sweetness at half is on point, pretty much perfectly not too sweet (probably comparable to 25% sweet at other boba shops). The boba is a little on the soft side, compressing very easily on the tongue into a flat disk. The pearls are slightly sweet and still have a good amount of bounce despite the softness. Interestingly enough, I found the boba to be too firm at the other two locations. This one is on the other side of the spectrum! Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 3.5/5 I honestly don't understand why the average rating on Yelp for most DIY Tea Lab locations is so low. The drinks they serve are above average and they have shops conveniently located in areas that don't have many other competitors. I usually expect those boba shops to be first gen type of places, with cheap powders and syrups galore (sometimes even using powdered tea!), but DIY Tea Lab is definitely a step above. Bathrooms - None that I could find.

Solid Boba spot that does the job. Was working in the area and saw this place, so I had to check it out. Lots of different customizable options and a wide variety of interesting drinks and flavors. The Panda Sesame wasn't my favorite as it was a bit dry tasting, but the black sesame flavor is good if you like sesame flavored drinks. The staff member that assisted me was super friendly as well.
Honestly a little disappointed in the drinks that we got. I ordered the classic jasmine milk tea and my husband got the Signature fruit tea. My drink literally tasted like milk, I didn't taste any tea. The boba was also ok, not really tasty. The Signature fruit tea was wayyy to sweet. We ordered it like 50% sweet but it felt like it was over 100%. I'm not sure if it was just an off day or something but I definitely didn't enjoy these drinks. Ordered via kiosk, inside was fairly spacious. Ample parking on the street but you do have to walk.

Nice and refreshing for this weather A nice place to get something refreshing near the bus stop by the bridge in Fremont (about 2~3min walk from the bus stop). They also have poke in the same location.

Pretty cool spot on our way to gas work park in Fremont. We decided to try this place and get some new drinks. And it was so good. It was the the best one out of the 3 place we went on our trip
Came here to grab a boba and was very happy with the decision I made. The tea was the perfect amount of sweetness even at 100% and the tapioca balls were the perfect texture. I'm very particular and have been drinking boba tea for years and this was a really good place to try. The customer service was both helpful and honest and I really appreciated that they were transparent about the offerings they had with answers to all of my questions. My tea was with ice and it didn't compromise flavor so I was quite happy. There are only two critiques I have; the floor is straight cement so when people pull out their chairs without lifting it's a loud and obnoxious sound and the other one is a small thought but I didn't notice as many flavor options or DIY when I went there to customize my drink. But honestly not an issue at all, too good of a tea to be unsatisfied, will definitely try other flavors soon!
My family and I visited this location because of Yelp. We've only been to Fremont twice, with this visit being our second one and it was nice to stop at this establishment so that we could sample their beverages. We didn't realize that the DIY Tea Lab also shares the same space with Just Poke so that was a nice surprise, though, we didn't order any poke because we just ate lunch at a nearby pho restaurant. For the drinks, I got the Mango Sago and my husband ordered the Matcha Coco with Sea Salt Ube Cream. We were the only customers in line during our visit which was nice. Staffing is the same for both Just Poke and DIY Tea Lab but they have two separate registers. The person that helped us was busy making a poke plate for a customer upon entering but he helped us fairly quickly. I shared the mango sago with my two toddlers and they loved it! The drink had a good balance of sweetness. The pairing of the sago and chunks of mango was perfection with the drink. The matcha coco with ube cream was also delicious. The ube cream went well with the matcha. And the boba had a soft, yet chewy texture. As a side note, the employee who made our drinks realized that he forgot to put the ube cream after he sealed the drink. He made us a new drink and he let us keep the other drink which was very kind gesture. Really, I can't say anything negative about our orders and customer service. If we didn't have to drive an hour at this establishment, we would probably frequent this area more, though one downside is that parking can be hard to find. Street parking seems to be the only option. We parked two blocks away because there was no available parking nearby. We paid $7 for 4 hours although there is a an option of $5 for 2 hours. I'm very selective when it comes to boba spots so, I would say im critical in how I rate places. Speaking strictly about their drinks. I would say if I was craving a boba and I was in the area. I would come here for a boba. While the texture of my boba wasn't as QQ as i'd like. the overall flavors of the drinks were good. I got the sea salt Ube milk tea and my partner got the mango sago smoothie. These two drinks were solid. What I enjoyed about the sea salt Ube is that it comes layered so you can either enjoy it either mixed or separated.the Ube flavor really came through with that slight earthy but sweet taste. Lots of places don't do Ube justice, but I would say this place does in accordance to the drink. I got more money with 75% sweetness and light ice. It was just the right amount of sweetness for me. The mango sago smoothie is exactly what I expected with the right textures. Definitely would recommend on a nice warm day. It's refreshing and not heavy. Shout out to the staff for just being awesome, welcoming, and great facilitators. They provided helpful insight in helping us come to a decision without rushing us as a line slowly began to form. Unfortunately, this place is not good and I can't sugarcoat it. A good amount of the reviews are correct. The drink is already sugarcoated enough. The menu they provided at the board is actually just a subset of items, so you will want to check out the kiosk at the store and order from there for their full menu. I got the Ben's Blue Skies with half sugar and half ice, which came out to a little under $7.50 after tax, which is a bit high for a boba drink. The drink itself does look pretty - fresh milk with butterfly pea flower tea, strawberry puree, and mango puree. Mixing it all together, I started drinking. It is definitely NOT 50% sweet as it felt actually like 150% sugar honestly. I said less ice and I saw them fill the drink to the brim with ice like what??? What is the worker up to, doing the exact OPPOSITE of what I requested? The boba texture is also pretty okay - a bit on the mushier side. I almost wanted to call it quits and just toss the whole drink altogether. I think this is probably one of the lowest quality boba places I have tried. read more

Perfect fix for Boba and a casual evening stroll in the Fremont neighbourhood. I got the Classic Black tea with Boba and the Seasalt Ube Boba. I got the third drink, Thai Ice tea as add on for the buy 1 get 1. The store is quite big and is pretty with lots of plants. The staff was masked and social distancing was followed all through. We picked the Boba and walked at the Fremont waterfront. Thanks Yelp and DIY lab for the wonderful opportunity! read more
Found this place through a Yelp Elite event and I'm glad I did! They've got great drinks! I love ube anything, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had this Sea Salt Ube Milk Tea on the menu. The ube cream was perfectly salty without distracting from the ube flavor. The milk tea itself was good too, and the boba was nice and soft. Their menu is on the smaller side compared to other boba places, but they still have some more interesting flavors alongside your classic milk tea and thai tea. I would definitely come back here! Plus, if you like poke, there's a poke bar in the same space :) read more
This initial visit to DIY Tea Lab was fortuitous back on 12/28/20, because I found street parking in Fremont! Make sure to be masked up, walk up to the counter, place your order and complete payment. Your number appears on the board. Granted I was the only person onsite at the time, and kindly acknowledged by the counter person. It was just a brief wait to receive a pair of their signature beverages for me and The Homie to sample. When I first indulged in milk tea, it was with that dried powder stuff that pretty much was palm oil, aka Coffee Mate non dairy creamer. I didn't know any better. But as the greater Seattle area attracts more and more Asian chains and tea indies, one can really taste the difference when crafted with fresh brewed tea and fresh milk. I look forward to a future visit for the Yelp Elite Perk, fingers crossed! Recommended if you are in the Fremont neighborhood. While you're at it, go visit the Fremont Troll around the corner from DIY Tea Lab, under the Hwy 99/Aurora Bridge. read more
Finally, a legit Bubble Tea spot in Fremont!!! I got the Sea Salt Ube Milk Tea. The rest of my family got the Classic Ruby Milk Tea, Strawberry Milk, and Mango Smoothie. We all got Boba added to our drinks and I also added Sea Salt Ube Foam. Make sure to shake your drink before punching the straw hole on the cover and inserting your paper straw which thankfully didn't deteriorate too quickly and was fine. The price is reasonable at about $5 a pop. I'll definitely be back for another Sea Salt Ube Milk Tea fix and to try the other drinks on the menu. read more

Stopped by on a 18:30 weekday and surprised to see a line. Rest assured the line moves fast and all the orders are placed through their iPad. It was actually a seamless process, and the employees made themselves available for any questions. I was not a big fan of the sea salt ube milk tea (maybe because I ordered the reduced sugar level at 50%?). Friendly service, nice atmosphere with COVID friendly precautions, but would try a different drink next time. read more
Came here during their first day of soft opening and is super stoked they are close to my work place. They are in the same complex as just poke (replace the acai bowl place) so the space is not as big as their other location but it's still pretty nice. I been to the Newcastle location and this place is just as consistent in their drinks and service and quality. The menu is not as extensive yet but they are slowly working to that. I tried the blue ocean drink and the guy recommended the lychee jelly to go along with it so thats what I did. I love that even though I got only 25% sweetness, the sweetness from jelly came through. It was also a super pretty drink. I hope they stay and continue to expand, it's definitely one of my go to bubble tea! read more

The place is super cute and aesthetic and I can't wait to go back when we're Covid free so I can make my own drink! Theres poke bowls inside too so it's a super convenient lunch spot! read more
Perfect location to pick up some boba and a poke bowl! They share the same building as Just Poke. I ordered the Blue Ocean with less ice, less sugar and lychee jelly. The drinks were made quickly and everyone was super friendly. The Blue Ocean was refreshing and had the perfect amount of sweetness to it when asking for less sweet. Yummm!! Bubble tea & poke! With some musubi. Sounds good to me. This semi-new spot is right in Fremont. You can't miss it as you enter Fremont. Next to the bridge! The park. All the fun stuff. Parking is a little hard but you can find it. The menu here is huge. I went with matcha since I love my caffeine. Mango Matcha Fresh Milk with added mango and boba! It was delicious! Strong! Tasty and all that. They also share the space with Just poke. You can get poke! Make your own poke bowls. Or grab a musubi! I tried the Tempura spam musubi. It was kept warm: not crunchy tempura but still good. But the tea was what you'll come here for. Their menu is huge. And drinks are beautiful and tasty. read more
I found this boba spot right around the Freemont downtown area! It's connected with a poke place so it's pretty busy in the store. There's enough tables and high chairs around to find a seat though. I decided to order something a little different than my usual. I ordered a white peach oolong fresh milk tea with boba. Unfortunately, I didn't love it. I think it just didn't have enough flavor and the tea wasn't as strong as I hoped. It tasted mostly like milk. I always give boba places another chance so I'd definitely come back to try a different flavor. But for now, it is not my favorite place. read more
I got to try the teas at their new Fremont location a few times now and I've never been disappointed. Located in the same as Just Poke so you can get lunch and a drink without leaving the building. To minimize contact, they ask that you order on the tablet in front of the register. You can also order online via their website. It also gives you a chance to take a look at the drinks with a brief description of the contents. Also you get 1 FREE topping (boba, popping boba, jelly, pudding etc.) with your drink. You can also add an additional topping for $0.50. The average price of for the teas are $5, but that includes that one topping. FYI, they also have kid drinks for all those younger humans or those who don't want a their regular sized drink. The drinks I've tried: Let that Man'Go Smoothie Melanie's TaroBerry Sea Salt Ube Milk Tea Classic Ruby Black Milk Tea The staff are friendly and keeping it clean. If you have questions or need to make adjustments just ask. My only main issue is parking. Parking is not fantastic. Keep up the fantastic work DIY Tea Labs! I've only been to the DIY Tea Lab in Newcastle so compared to that one, this location lacks in appeal. The drinks were still delicious and customer service was awesome but the whole idea behind DIY Tea Lab is for the customer to DIY their tea... I loved getting to customize my drink and be a scientist with the test tubes and Petri dishes provided at the Newcastle location, but this shop just felt like another typical bubble tea shop. We visited the store on a Sunday afternoon and there was a delivery driver and a couple in front of us, waiting for their drinks to be made by 1 person. Ordering was easy and simple because they had an iPad set up so you can select your drink, customize the sweetness and ice level, and pick your toppings. We wanted boba for both our drinks but they ran out so we opted for Crystal boba instead, which is similar but I would describe it as crunchier than regular black pearls. I think the location is great, service could be improved if there was at least 1 more person working, drinks are good, and they'll definitely attract of young and hip customers, especially sharing the same store as Just Poke, but I would not go out of my way to stop here unfortunately. read more
DIY Tea Lab has a fun menu: punny names and colorful drinks for tea, boba, and smoothie lovers alike! It's got great topping options - crystal boba's a good one to try - and in a good spot with lots of foot traffic. Also a huge fan of the interior decor with bar seats, hanging lights, and both real n fake plants; love how the space is split with Just Poke for a bite to pair with your drinks! I tried the Mango smoothie and recommend giving it a good mix before drinking. Seems to be on the sweeter side so consider adjusting sugar level if that's an option for your drink! read more

Highly recommend getting this drink with less sweetness! Otherwise, it would be too sweet for the tea :( They use fresh fruits for the drink and I enjoyed the taste so much! I should get some great tea, not boba LOL because boba is too sweet sometimes. read more
