Wow, We Celebrated Mom's Birthday here last night and we had a blast. They're practicing social distancing and masks need to be worn. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Great Staff and Friendly and the waitress took our drink orders first and brought complimentary popcorn to our table. Then we ordered appetizers and didn't have to wait long for it to arrive. My son ordered calamari, crab (snow crab), and chicken wings appetizers for us. Everything was delicious and the right temperature. We then ordered our entrees. My mom wanted to eat crab that's why we went here for dinner. She ordered snow crab with baked beans. My daughter in law ordered country fried steak with cornbread casserole and mac n cheese. My son ordered brisket and mac n cheese and mash n gravy. I ordered country fried steak with cornbread casserole and mashers n gravy. Everyone sure enjoyed their meal. Especially my mom, she was enjoying her crab and the crab was going everywhere. We all laughed and was amazed because this was the first time my mom didn't have any leftovers. This is for their take out. Don't do it. Ordered and paid online. Site asked for either go in and pick up or curbside. I selected curbside. Instructed me to call when outside. Got there parked right out front, called number. The guy who answered was quite rude.... told him i had an online order gave my name and he says "yah what about it" Told him im out front he tells me they no longer do curbside so i have to come in to pick up. Ok there was a line to get in, i waited in line a couple of minutes but since it didn't move i walked in. Pick up is at the bar, told the girl my name she hands me 2 bags which look like liners for a small trash can. Not tied and plates just thrown in, some were sideways in bag. Fixed plates in my car, and tied bags. Not hard to do, dunno why they couldn't do it. I ordered pulled pork sandwich. menu says it comes with ramekin of slaw so i ordered tossed salad for side. Special instructions i asked for small container of Carolina sauce. No slaw. No sauce. Ordered killer cobb salad. No dressing. Very disappointed in the service! Get your Popcorn ready and have a seat so I can tell you this classic story of my experience rolling up to this dump today. You ever watch the movie from Dusk till Dawn and at the end they show the backside of the bar and it's staggered vampire shanty huts all up and down the side of the mountain. The view of this place is similar driving in from the east side. Looks like a hurricane washed a third world country upside the building. In my mind something told me I was taking a chance going in here. So I walk in and after some confusion with the online and actual menu I put in my $70 dollar order. Then I take 6 dollars cash and set it on the table in front of me for the waitress and quietly sit there, figured I'll wait for my order. There's only one other person in the entire bar area. He's sitting at the end and there's bar stools and tables open galore cause no one is in there waiting for a table or a chair. So next thing I know the waitress is standing in front of me telling me that I'm not allowed to sit at the bar unless I order a beer due to limited seating. She tells me I have to leave asks if the 6 dollars is for her and walks away. Doesn't even offer me an alternative place to sit or tell me that she'll call me when my food is ready. I guess the $70 dollar food order and $6 dollar tip doesn't count for anything. Sure makes a lot of sense when there's nobody in the place, but what do I know??? But wait, there's more... So I start walking out the door wandering why I can't sit at an empty bar. Then I start wondering why I would even order from a place that kicks you out after you pay and tip them for takeout! So I walk back in and tell the waitress just cancel my order. Like any other logical person would do. Just give me back my cash and I just want to get the hell out of here. The waitress doesn't ask me what's wrong, she knows why I'm upset. There's a good reason us local people don't talk about coming here and now after 20 years from the first time ever going to this place when it was back on Ward Ave I remember why, but wait there's more... So now the waitress tells me she has to get the manager in order to give me back my money. So here comes this poor soul who doesn't realize that at this point I don't want anything to do with this place. She asks me what my issue is and I tell her the issue is that I just paid you guys $70 dollars and you won't let me sit here and wait for my order. Then I looked around and exclaimed to her, there's nobody F* in this place! She looks at me and says you can't sit here? You can sit here. Who told you that you can't sit here? Which I pointed to the waitress and then the manager looks at the waitress and asks why can't he sit here? The Greedy waitress then tells the Mgr that they changed the rules. What Goofball setup has the waitress informing the Mgr of how the rules work?!? Someone with brains, hopefully the owner should explain to both of these guys that when almost every seat is open and someone just gives you $70 dollars you should let him sit down because you not losing any revenue due to no one else being there to take the chair. It would be understandable if there was a line of people waiting to buy beer at the bar. But wait, there's more... So now the Mgr tries to tell me that she's gonna do something or other but all I'm hearing at this point is Charlie Browns teacher squawking . I'm trying not to flip out. I just want to get out of this place. So finally I think she realized best thing was just to give me back my money. The poor attitude waitress was happy to oblige. But wait, there's more... Now I'm walking out telling myself out loud Unbelievable! To which the Muppet gallery at the front desk made sure to jeer me with insincere and condescending alohas and have a nice day. Because I guess I'm the A hole in this situation since I expected to be able to sit down at the empty bar or even a bench and or be told where and how I am going to receive my order instead of just being told I have to leave. Last but not least... The hidden blessing is that I was to go somewhere else that was full of people and employees who were happy to see me. Instead of spending $70 dollars I got lunch for only $30 dollars and they threw in a free pupu without me even asking. You see how the world works...was good Karma. So thanks everyone over at the "we need our chairs cause no ones here grill " for saving me $40 dollars today! My second time trying BBQ from here (last was early 2020, pre-COVID). My memory was correct, two and a half years later and the BBQ wasn't really worth it. Today I had brisket and turkey, plus sides of corn bread, coleslaw, and salad. The brisket seemed rather dry and very unseasoned; even with the house sauce it wasn't worth finishing. The turkey seemed to have some pepper in it, nut also wasn't great even with sauce. The service here at this establishment is beyond a joke. We showed up at 8 and was told no more seating was being taken we would have to sit at the bar if we wanted to be serviced. I drive past this place all the time and I never thought to come until my co worker and I wanted to get some lunch after a Saturday at work and she had her dog. We were calling around and they said they were animal friendly!! We came and they sat us in the outdoor area and brought schooner a bowl of water. We both spotted the grilled turkey avocado sandwich and ordered that. I also ordered the fried okra. The sandwich was amazing!!!! This is our second time here and so far it has been good. It's a family oriented place. Popcorn is given while you wait for your food. Tuesdays are kids eat free days with a paying adult entree of $12 or more. So that was a bonus for us. We got seated quickly and waited on fairly fast. Absolutely no seasoning, there was no salt in the batter? Batter was soggy and wet. ( and I was eating on the way home, right after I ordered) and they gave like 5 waffle fries that tasted like they had frost bite. I used to work as a cook. Way cheaper just to make your own. And way better too! And they gave like a tablespoon amount of coleslaw, which is actually really good. Prices went way up, quality down, portions down. Just really sad. Used to love this place. When u have way more soggy batter than fish and not even offer malt vinegar, it's not fish n chips! Came here after the reviews were great. We ordered the crab deviled eggs... they were out. Three of our party ordered crab cakes and after 15mins our waiter came and told us they were out. Settled on the shrimp and grits which were subpar. Grits were not seasoned and extremely thick. Sausages were like rubber. The only good thing we had that we ordered and they actually had were the calamari and peel and eat shrimp. I try to be gracious because I understand COVID has caused a lot of businesses to have to change menus but if don't have two of the key menu items and you don't tell people before they order, I have any issue with that. We're new to the island so we're trying out new places. Today was our second time trying Dixie Grill and it was just as good as the first time! If you are looking for some good southern sweet tea, this is where you go! We've tried the catfish (perfect breading), pulled pork, brisket, turkey, and firecracker wings. Not one bad thing I can say about them. The calamari appetizer was a little greasy for our liking, but it happens sometimes. I can't recommend the Brussel Sprouts enough! I don't know what kind of dressing they put on them after roasting, but they are amazing. Each time the service has been outstanding. The servers have been so polite and attentive and our food arrived quickly. As with other restaurants, every other table is closed for social distancing and masks are required when not actively eating/drinking. 3 stars for overall food quality and 1 extra star for ambiance that makes you forget you are here in the islands, the happy hour menu and quick service. This is my hubster's go-to place to pick up pulled pork sandwiches. Although this is his main reason: it's not too crowded (there is always parking) and choice of sauces. They have a choice of 6 different bbq sauces that you can have on the side. In my opinion, there are plenty of other bbq places that are good but this one is pretty chill and we are always seated right away. Food is a bit on the pricy side, but if you go during happy hour, cheap beer is cheap ($1). I was happily surprised by their oysters, which was about $13 for 6 medium sized oysters. The don't always have it, so try to get them on Saturdays. They told me they get them fresh every Saturday! Service is consistently quick and good. This is a bbq restaurant in Aiea. The food is decent. I think it's pricey for the quality of food. I do think some of the bbq food trucks around Oahu are better than this dine in restaurant. One thing I did like was that multiple bbq sauces are provided that you can choose from. The bbq sauce recipes are supposed to be from various U.S. areas that are known for bbq like Memphis, TN and Kansas. I thought that was cool. I do want to go back to this restaurant and give it another try. I love bbq so I have high expectations. I want to return to give the restaurant a fair chance. Oh another thing!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND! SAVE YOUR MONEY! The Dixie Grill is where my husband wanted to eat for Father's Day, so we placed an online order as we had been out the majority of the day & wanted to stay home. The order was ready fairly quickly & we even arrived a few minutes early for pick-up. Pick-up wasn't fast as we were directed to the bar to pick-up our order, where there was no one available to help us. We had to wait until someone finally came out to be helped. We get our order & head home. We live approx 8min away. We get home, family is waiting, and we start sitting down with our meals. Absolutely, appalling & disgusting. The fries were old & stale, my daughters order of Country Fried Steak tasted like calamari (her words), we were not even sure what the flavor of the macaroni was supposed to be, but it was definitely off, my pulled pork was very dry & flavorless, but my bottom bun was so soggy and tearing apart. There was an order of catfish which seemed to have possibly been refried & was not edible. We all switched different meals between us in case someone liked another's food and would have something to actually eat. Nope. It was all disgusting and we threw EVERY single meal in the trash. What a waste of money. We had to order all new meals from somewhere else in order to have dinner. This restaurant was recommended & I cannot figure out why anyone would recommend this place. Girls night out and my friend had wanted to check out the bar upstairs for their line dancing. Mind you this friend of mines dont even know how to dance buuuuut...because it was on her " things to try out" list smh ... so we had dinner first went inside and the waitress had seated us immediately. The hostess stood watching me while I stood watching my food. It was 4pm on Wednesday so not busy. I finally came to a server and asked if I could pay as my food was ready. This was after 8-mins of me standing around. They messed up the order (placed bbq sauce in lieu of cole slaw). There was a fly in the food container (not surprised as flies were swarming around the bag). The ribs (got a full back) were dry. And, the brisket was fatty and small portion. I wouldn't recommend. Sad as HNL is in need of a good bbq place. It was my first (and last time) but hopefully, it was an anomaly but with so many options for good food, I'll go elsewhere. read more

I tried this place recently with my mom and overall, I found it to be a good experience - I would probably return. It's so hard to find good Southern restaurants in Hawaii, so I try to take advantage of whatever I do come across. Before coming here, it was a toss up between them and a nearby competitor (which I may also try next time) that serves Southern cuisine as well. Ultimately, we chose this place, because it was slightly closer to where we were coming from. They start you off with a complimentary basket of popcorn which is nice, and there is a paper towel roll at each table (so you know you're at a BBQ joint). The sweet tea was pretty standard and they serve it in huge glasses, which has its pros and cons - great because you're getting a large portion, not so great because the extra ice really ends up watering it down by the end of your meal. We ordered fried green tomatoes for starters as I have never had them before and know they're considered a Southern favorite. I thought they were decent, but not having been raised on them I think I prefer the flavor of fried zucchini or other veggies. That's just my personal preference though. For our meals we kind of shared everything, but altogether we ordered the fried catfish, collard greens, corn bread casserole, mac and cheese, and gumbo. I feel that the catfish could have been seasoned more, but it was decent. The collard greens were good. The corn bread casserole was pretty yummy, although the edges were a little dry. I'm a mac and cheese lover, and they didn't disappoint there - nice and creamy and good flavor (reminds me of how Outback Steakhouse does their mac and cheese). The gumbo was really great as well, I just don't really care for the okra in it (another thing I wasn't raised on, but a Southern staple). I just find okra to have kind of a slimy texture every time I have it which turns me off. I was not going to have dessert, since I was so full at that point, but my mom insisted, so we ordered the mud pie in a jar to share. It tasted yummy, but there were pros and cons about it for me. I was happy that it came in a really small mason jar and not the normal ones, since I was already so full. However, they charge about $6-8 for that little jar, so in that respect, it was definitely not worth the price. Upon entering the ladies room, you'll be greeted by a male mannequin, so don't freak out! It's just part of the lively decor, amongst funny signs and other knick knacks they have posted up. Whenever I dine at Dixie Grill, I get so annoyed by the sticky tables and menus and the sticky bottles of barbeque sauce but...I still enjoy every meal there. The food isn't the greatest and the customer service is OK but I think what I enjoy the most about Dixie Grill is their fun atmosphere. They give complimentary popcorn to start. They used to season it with Old Bay Seasoning but lately I think it's just plain buttered flavor. The popcorn's nice but I still have to order their Frickles, their southern-style fried pickles that come with a horseradish sauce. My go-to drink is their Sweet Tea, which according to people who have been to the South, isn't really that sweet but it's perfect for me. The tea comes in a huge glass mug and refills are free. They've had a couple of changes in their menu over the years but their portions have always been pretty generous. If you order one of the rib or smoked meats, they bring a case of six of their own barbeque sauces to your table. It's fun to sample them and find your favorite. A couple of my menu favorites are: Frickles (Southern-style fried pickles) Fire Roasted Crab & Artichoke Dip (served with warm Dixie toast) Grilled Cheese & Meatloaf (served on Dixie toast and the meatloaf is really moist) Creole Blackened Mahi (served with Creole rice and collard greens) Southern Fried Catfish (Huge portion of very crispy catfish!) Baby-Back Ribs (Do you really need an explanation?) Besides the large portions of food and their tea, they have a lot of other drink options and many different types of beer on tap. Their signature drink is their Screamin' Mai Tai with their special blend of fruit juice and rums. Each time they serve a Screamin' Mai Tai, they ring a bell and yell something to the effect of, "We got 1 Sreamin' Mai Tai!" The ambiance at Dixie Grill is fun wacky. Indoor and outdoor seating is available and they have a bunch of humorous signs and posters and a lot of vintage and "All-American" pictures and decorations. One of my favorite signs reads, "I only drink when I'm with someone or alone." The uniforms their employees wear are regular t-shirts with catchy one-liners like "We're always smoking something" or "Put some south on your mouth." Dixie Grill probably isn't the most ideal place for a quiet, romantic dinner but if you're looking for southern food in a casual, lively environment, then this is probably the spot for you. read more

I ordered tonight online. I arrived within 15 mins to pickup. I requested no blue cheese crumbles and went to check it and they were on there as well as these brown avocados. So I sent the salad back. Instead of remaking the salad they pulled the blue cheese crumbles off and handed me the salad back with the same brown avocados.
