Jerk Chicken with cabbage and mac.

Forgive me up front... I started eating thru it before thinking about taking a picture. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by the nicely seasoned cabbage, acceptable mac and cheese, and tender juicy jerk chicken. A little pricey for a food truck but I'll give them a pass since the taste of the food made me forget. Give them a try!

Recently I visited HAFB and was lucky enough to run across the Sae's Hot Plates food truck. Southern cuisine is my favorite and they offer many instances of it on their menu. I had the catfish plate and chose Mac and cheese as my side. The menu price was $16 but I ended up paying over $30 for basically a plate of Mac and cheese and 1 catfish (two halves/ fillets). It was rather expensive for the amount of food. Nothing really jumps out about the fish or the Mac but they were solid, but maybe I tried the wrong item. The service was decent and the delicious berry lemonade wasn't even on the menu. The berry lemonade tasted like the koolaid people make in the southern continental United States! It was certainly perfect. If you have time to wait, aren't a penny pincher, don't care for large main portions, and enjoy koolaid, this is your place! I'll go back whenever I see them! Check it out and let me know what you think!

The food is good and always hot but they are really slow. I waited an hour for food. I used most of my break just waiting.

There are 3 patio tables outside that seat 4 or 5 if you squeeze together. There is no AC available and its probably 'cooler' outside to dine, because the stove and oven are constantly running. There are fans which help, but luckily it wasn't a hotter day. I don't know the owners name, he is the only one cooking. He has a cashier, server, hostess all of 1. Just the 2 of them serving everyone who seems to have come at once. He did a great job and it was nice to be able to see the food being cooked, plated and served. They pretty much stay on top of things. Food does take a little longer to be served, but it was certainly worth the wait. Everything was delicious and hot. All the bones were left on the empty plates. My personal favorite is the pork chop. Collards and cornbread were available and they do sellout. Cornbread was very moist. I also liked the Mac daddy...I think i might try to replicate that at home. They do alot of takeout orders as well. If im in the area again, I may do takeout or come when they first open. Forgot to mention the desserts. Blueberry cheesecake, banana pudding and peach cobbler. All delicious, but my favorite is the pudding. Yum

With a number of deliciously interesting dishes, I settled on the Crawfish Etouffee! In a creamy white and red sauce, the large succulent crawfish were perfectly done. With just a bite of heat, all the flavors complimented each other each. The rice and sides were perfectly presented; it was as appetizing as delicious. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the truck and simplicity of the ordering and payment. Credit cards are accepted. My second visit was this past Thursday for the Maker & Tasters Ramenagogo event, so my bf and I tried their creole saimin. We were both very dissapointed. Our food came out cold, so we asked them to reheat it. From the time we arrived to the time we left was almost an hour because it took FOREVER for them to make the food each time. Also, it didn't taste that good. They were nice enough to comp us bourbon bread pudding since we were dissatisfied--that was really yummy (nice and gooey, not too sweet)! We noticed another customer was waiting forever too, so he asked to be comped a bread pudding. My advice: only come here if you're willing to wait.

I'd never been to their other locations, so this was my first experience -- and honestly, it left an impression. That spot in Kapolei has seen a few restaurants come and go over the years. Before Scratch Kitchen, there was Sugar Cane, and if I reach far enough back, I'm pretty sure a Mexican restaurant lived there too. It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat. Which is why I can't help but wonder what happened -- like so many restaurants before them in that same location. With food that good, you'd hope they'd be the ones to break the cycle. All in all, I'm grateful I got to enjoy that meal with my daughter. It was memorable, delicious, and one of those small moments you hold onto. Marie

Either way, it made for a super relaxed experience with no wait and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the food. Loved: The street tacos with the tempura shrimp were easily the star of the meal. 100% worth it. Light, crispy shrimp with a flavorful slaw and just the right amount of heat--basically a flavor party in every bite. The burger was another quiet star. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The Miss: Tried the French toast and... meh. It looked great on the plate but tasted dry and definitely didn't live up to the level of the other dishes. Might've just been an off day or a matter of personal taste, but I'd skip it next time.

My husband got the smokehouse salad $16. He got the smoked turkey with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, corn, onions, shredded cheese, topped with bbq and ranch dressing. My ribs were dry and were far from falling off the bone. We got both the original and sweet bbq sauces. I liked the sweet better. It had a hint of spiciness to it. The baked beans had a nice flavor, but my two corn on the cobs were the best. They were super buttery and sweet. We also got a sweet tea $3.50 that came with free refills. It was super sweet. Just dilute it with water and it was good.
