Color me impressed! This was my first time trying La Roux, and I'm so glad it caught my eye. At Eat the Street this past weekend, the food truck was so colorful and welcoming, I had to go over and see their options. With a number of deliciously interesting dishes, I settled on the Crawfish Etouffee! In a creamy white and red sauce, the large succulent crawfish were perfectly done. With just a bite of heat, all the flavors complimented each other each. The rice and sides were perfectly presented; it was as appetizing as delicious. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the truck and simplicity of the ordering and payment. Credit cards are accepted. I've tried La Roux twice--my first experience was decent. I got the shrimp etouffee and liked it a lot (although my rice was too mushy). My order took a long time. My second visit was this past Thursday for the Maker & Tasters Ramenagogo event, so my bf and I tried their creole saimin. We were both very dissapointed. Our food came out cold, so we asked them to reheat it. From the time we arrived to the time we left was almost an hour because it took FOREVER for them to make the food each time. Also, it didn't taste that good. They were nice enough to comp us bourbon bread pudding since we were dissatisfied--that was really yummy (nice and gooey, not too sweet)! We noticed another customer was waiting forever too, so he asked to be comped a bread pudding. My advice: only come here if you're willing to wait. read more

Finally tried La Roux at Kapolei a go-go after seeing it every time we were at Makers & Tasters and somehow never getting a chance to try them. They were very nice about my picky order (single meat on the po' boy, no tomato and upgrade from creole fries to crab fries.) tonight was a keiki theme, and when I scolded my dog for jumping up to try to sniff around, the sweet lady in the truck said he gets a free dinner like any other keiki! (Stanley says thanks for the chicken nugget!) The shrimp on the po' boy were perfectly seasoned, very crisp and plentiful. The remoulade sauce was delicious and spicy. La Roux lunch wagon was at Eat the Street Mardi Gras the other day so I had to try some Cajun food. It was a Mardi Gras theme so I wanted to eat at this truck. I was not happy at my first impression bc they arrived late and was not open until way after the event started. I was patient and stood in line but the wait ended up being over an hour.... I guess everyone had the same idea as I bc the line kept growing. I was optimistic from the line and said to my self that must be worth the wait and the food must be good for this line. Finally after an hour I was able to place my order and I got Bennets and gumbo. Again I had to wait again...as they seemed unorgainized in getting the orders flowing.... When I finally got my food I was very disappointed.... The bennets were not fresh and cold and was hard and not fluffy as I thought. The gumbo was a very small portion and was not what I thought gumbo tasted like... Not worth $8 for the gumbo or $5 for the bennets. My friend even took the bennets back and got a fresh batch...which tasted a little better. My friend's friend made a funny remark as he even said Campbell's canned gumbo tasted better. He could not even finish his portion... Overall I was not happy with my experience....long wait for nothing. I was still hungry after but did not want to wait in line at another place. I love Soul/Cajun food, so the La Roux truck has been on my radar for quite a while. But, I normally don't go to Makers & Tasters for lunch or dinner, and when I do go to "Eat the Street" events, I've always visited other trucks before La Roux (and at the last event I went to, the line for the jambalaya and beignets was way too long). But, I finally had the chance to check out La Roux during Makers & Tasters' "Breakfast a Go Go" dinner-themed event. The five or six food trucks present had to feature menus with breakfast-themed items. Being that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I couldn't wait to see what each truck would feature. I knew that La Roux was bound to have good menu items, based on what I had seen in the past. La Roux definitely didn't disappoint. My friend and I were both happy with everything we ordered from this truck. Even though other trucks may have more traditional fare, whenever I'm craving some good soul food, I know where to go. Here's what we got during our visit: "French Quarter": This was one of the featured specials during "Breakfast a Go Go." It featured eggs and cheese inside of a billowy French toast sandwich that was topped with bacon bits, powdered sugar and maple bacon syrup. I was a little doubtful of this sandwich--even though I love all its ingredients--just because the photos I saw of it made it look unappealing. But once I went with my gut, ordered it and took my first bite, it was as if all the flavors exploded in my mouth and I could almost hear the hallelujah chorus. The French toast exterior was perfect -- the toast was a light golden brown, but the bread was still moist, spongy and soft. But, it was lightly grilled so the crust was slightly crispy. The bacon bits on top provided the perfect crunch and salty seasoning. The eggs inside the sandwich were perfectly scrambled and blended well with the melted cheddar cheese. Since I normally get syrup on the side when I order pancakes, waffles or French toast, I was nervous about the sandwich being too inundated with syrup. But, I ended up really liking the maple bacon syrup ... and the sandwich was completely smothered with it. Each piece I cut had soaked up a good amount of syrup, but that was a good thing because the sandwich wasn't dry and featured a sweet taste. And, it was topped off with powdered sugar for some extra sweetness. I have a huge sweet tooth so I really liked this sandwich - though it contained bacon, it was a little more sweet than savory. I only intended to eat half the sandwich, but I knew it would be soggy the next day and the bacon wouldn't be crispy, so I ended up eating it all in one sitting. It's definitely worth the $11 and I would order this again in a heartbeat ... it sort of reminded me of a Monte Cristo, but with a soggier exterior. But that sogginess wasn't a bad thing. Great menu item and I savored every bite. "Beignets": I've seen photos of these delicious-looking beignets, and I've been wanting to try them for the longest time. I thought they were a pretty good deal, since you get four for $5. My friend ordered food from another truck, but she got an order of beignets for us to share. The beignets were a little smaller than I thought they would be, but they were light and fluffy and liberally covered with powdered sugar. I did enjoy every bite of the beignets and I'm glad I tried them, even though they weren't as good as the ones I've had in Disneyland. But, I would probably order these again. I think I just expected them to be slightly bigger and maybe a little more well cooked, but all in all, I was pleased with the result. I was also really glad that each beignet had a generous portion of powdered sugar on top. "Café Du Monde Coffee": I first tasted this coffee when I went to The Pig & the Lady, and I absolutely loved the iced coffee version. I was excited to see it offered during this breakfast-themed dinner night (and it was only $1!) but I didn't get it, since I know that the coffee is usually strong and I didn't want to be up all night. However, if I were eating here during lunch, I would have added this coffee to my order ... no questions asked! My friend ordered this coffee (she's immune and caffeine doesn't keep her up), and she really enjoyed it. Great idea to include this on the menu for the evening. "Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich": I absolutely love fried chicken (a Soul food staple), so I definitely want to try this sandwich one day. It's one of the more expensive items on the La Roux menu, so I know it has to be good. I'm hoping it has a great, golden-brown exterior and a tender, moist interior. I look forward to tasting it one day. "Pulled Pork Sandwich": Next to fried chicken, I love pulled pork ... especially when it's smothered with BBQ sauce. I can't wait to taste the smoky version from La Roux. I'm intrigued to see what kind of bun this sandwich includes, as well as the sauce that covers the pulled pork. read more

You barely see any Cajun creole places in Hawaii. Just driving along Nimitz me and my bf decided to check makers and tasters cause everyone we pass by there is no parking. Walking to each food truck and reading what they have to offer I was sold when I saw jambalaya . I really wanted to get a lobster roll from another vendor but $20 wasn't something I'd pay for. I'm pretty glad I ordered food here I spent $24 on both plates and it got us really full. We basically shared everything the chicken was super tender and crunchy not dry at all. And the jambalaya rice was delicious. Oh and the po boys, the shrimp was really flavorful and the fries were seasoned perfectly, not salty like most places I've had. My mom tried this place at Eat the Street Wahiawa just for the beignets. We all were looking forward to eating our food at home. Every single person was salivating looking at the beignets. However, once we got home, it was such a disappointment. My grandma bit into the beignet and it wasn't flaky at all but "doughy" and raw. Checked out this food truck while at the NYE Hawaii 2016. I lived in Louisiana for a few years a learned how to cook cajun food. One of my favorite dishes is Crawfish Étouffée. I went to Kapolei A Go Go (held every Tuesday 3pm-7pm) and saw them & decided to check them out. Sadly they were out of beignets (the owner said that they always get cleaned out during their lunch shift in town.) I did get to try out their gumbo plate which comes with sausage gumbo over white rice, cornbread & a side salad. They should warn their customers that their gumbo is SPICY! Very tasty though!! Waited another 45 minutes for the food and when they called my name they told me they ran out of what I ordered and told me to pick something else. This is a late review from a visit about a month ago. I was feeling really homesick and was ecstatic when I saw a Cajun food truck at the park. I ordered half a shrimp poboy and crawfish etouffee to go. The shrimp poboy was yummy, but not enough shrimp per bread ratio. And coming from a southerner, most traditional poboys are jam packed with seafood to the point where you have to pick some out before being able to bite into it. Anyway, other than lack of shrimp, it was rather tasty. The fries were fried perfectly and a dusting of cajun seasoning was the highlight of my meal (I'm a potato person). The crawfish etouffee fell really flat though. There was almost no crawfish tails in the sauce and a ton of those little frozen shrimp. The sauce was very bland which is not typical of any southern cooking. The cornbread was good though. Two stars for the poboy, fries, and cornbread. Minus 3 for the lack of flavor and key ingredients. read more

Found this truck at Kapolei, Makers and Tasters and I'm glad I did. I had there Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. Best chicken sandwich I've ever eaten! The chicken was moist and the ramulade sauce was made perfectly. They are really generous on the portions as well. The chicken sandwich is huge! I had La Roux's shrimp poboy a little over a month ago at an eat the streets event. It was a bit over salted so I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. The owners were so nice and I'm pretty sure they were straight from New Orleans. Great conversations... -the gumbo tasted extremely watered down and there was hardly a hint of flavor other than what i could describe as water that was used to boil shrimp with some kind of thickening agent added to it -the deep fried boudin balls looked great but were very overbattered and still raw in the middle with very little filling -the deep fried catfish was sort of dry which is surprising to me because im used to this type of cuisine putting together a very light, flakey, and still moist piece of fish with a nice texture on the outside. -the rice in the jambalaya was kind of crunchy and a little bland as well despite the visible spices and broth that kind of gave it a smooth consistency I havent had much cajun food so i have little to compare it to but i can honestly say that these flaws were fundamental, and definitely could be improved. read more

My friend had her daughters 1st birthday at Pali Golf Course.. It was catered by La Roux..The banquet manger Sheri was very unprofessional. When she arrived nothing was set up .. She had to set up tables and place table linens our self . After they were finised placing all.the linens on the tabls Sheri tells her that we have to.redo all of.the tables because she gave them the wrong linen .My family arrives to the party an hour late.. We went to get drinks .. No water or napkins for the guest. What a shame I had go to the bathroom to get paper towels .. My friend was so embarrassed and appolgized.I told her it want her fault .. The banquet catering peopls.fault . They need to set up and make sure everything is ready and prepared for your party.. That's why you hired them!!! It wa 12pm and No lunch there were was No utensils. The banquet manager Sheri left. The workers did not who was in charge.. My friends Aunt went to talk to the worker who was in charge and demanded that we start serving lunch!! Finally after two hours the food was ready .The food was okay except the rice was brown and Kalua pig was dry with no tast. Overall my friend was dissatisfied with La Roux . Saw their truck at Makers and Tasters in Waikiki. Haven't had a Po' Boy in 10 years, which is when I was in New Orleans. Had to order the shrimp Po' Boy and try it. It was really really good, spicy, just the way I like it! I'm not a huge fan of bread in Hawaii (I'm from new York, it's totally different there) But surprisingly, it was also really good, I finally enjoyed bread here! Also got the crab and garlic fries which were amazing too. All for $12. No complaints, and got my food super quick. Can't wait to have more! read more
