I had the chanterelle sandwich and added bacon, which did not detract from the mushrooms and did not disappoint. The coleslaw on the sandwich was pleasantly acidic with apple cider vinegar and I scooped up every bit. I upgraded the standard side salad to the autumn salad. I paired the salad with a taster of blackberry cider, and had a stout with my sandwich. Both drinks were simple, clean, and while unremarkable compared to the incredible food, they held up their end and did not detract. Even though it was far too large for one person I had the stout brownie with a ~generous~ scoop of Tillamook vanilla for dessert and yes, I did eat the whole thing. Service was excellent from both the hostess and the server. I sat at a two-top in a back corner, right under a light that was perfect for reading the book I brought while maintaining the dark, inviting overall atmosphere and relaxing feel. It was a perfect solo evening.

I drove past this place the first time because the numbers were hard to read, so I posted a photo…read moreto make it easier to find. It's about 10 minutes or so from downtown Hood River, an easy drive on 35 and then onto 282 W, into a little main drag with a gas station and a few shops and hole-in-the-wall eateries. Michoacan is only open til 8, so get here in time. A single TV showed Mexican soccer, and the tables are basic. AC worked just fine, and the "sports bar" theme is mainly in some wall posters along with a hanging set of boxing gloves and some soccer and basketballs. The food is why you come though. For $2.50, you'll get a brightly flavored perfect guacamole, but a few bright red tomato bits and the herby bite of cilantro. The waitress told me that my entree came with guacamole, but I wanted more. I'd expected the carnitas entree to just have a spoonful, but it was a generous portion too. The chips were thick, not too salty, with enough heft to hold the thick warm bean dip that is complimentary. Inside the kitchen, visible from the dining room, you can see the women cooking. There's no celebrity chef here, no big presence in the kitchen. Just dark haired women chopping and stirring and making authentic food, and perhaps going home later to do laundry and care for family, all in the shadow of Mt Hood. Carnitas platter was visually satisfying - dark meat with a hint of charred crust, bright green guacamole and limes, a few orange pickled carrots, finely diced cilantro and onion. I often bypass the sticky rice at Tex-Mex joints, but here the grains were flaky and you could get the sweetness of tomato. As a solo diner I didn't have a chance to try the array of $2 tacos this time, but the tortillas that came with the carnitas were fresh and tasty, so that's my next visit! No mixed drinks - a selection of bottled beers (Negra Modelo, Corona, Victoria, Pacifico) which will come with no glass. The "glassware" is plastic, so you might prefer drinking out of the bottle anyway! Glad I came here - friendly staff too. Service was a bit slow - I had to ask for the bill - but fine.

Never had a refill offered the entire time there nor did anyone around us. We got up to pay for drinks and leave that's food when our food came out and hour later. So, it was thrown in To-go boxes, no bag, no utensils, no paper towels, the pulled pork sandwiches were burnt on the bottom bun and cold and stale on the top bun. The meat was dry and cold, the sandwich had mayo even though the waitress told us it did not also the menu didn't show mayo in the ingredient list. The Mac and cheese was old mush looked like it was a week old. The waitress was on her phone and the cook just looked like he had nothing to do. Won't ever go back there.

There seemed to be two servers for the whole place, but with it being a holiday, I was okay with slower service. The food was amazing! We had loaded sidewinder potatoes for an appetizer, and all of the components were delicious. One of us ordered the Cajun burger. The burger was solid, and the Sriracha mayo was more spicy than I've had before but in a good way. Nothing bad can be said about the sidewinder fries that came with the burger. We wish more places had fries like these. We also ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The chicken was nice and tender, and the Alfredo sauce was the best I've ever had! You could tell that it's made on site, so yummy. The well drinks were generous, and the Pendleton rum was nice. I always enjoy business or building stories on menus. The history of the building is pretty interesting. I gave them 5 stars, but I feel like 4.75 would be more appropriate because we all ran out of water, and no one checked in to see if we needed more. However, the food was so good that i would definitely visit again when in town.

It was sooooooo salty. Everything. The fries, the pork, the sauce. So much salt. Dipping in my husbands ranch mellowed the salt a bit. My husband got the chicken pesto burger and salad. He said it was good, though Costco's was better. lol. But he ate it all. The dogs got their bowl split in half. There was a bunch of peanut butter, chicken, cucumber, and cabbage. The picky dog devoured it all but the cabbage, the dog who'll eat anything ate only the chicken and PB. Really funny. But they were big sized. I'd go again, just being understanding that they're heavy handed with the salt.
