Delicious! The menu has a nice amount of items to choose from with a fun twist on some traditional names. I ordered garlic naan, chicken chili, black daal! Everything tasted very well made and nicely spiced. My only complaint is the naan was a bit burnt. This order was for carry out and was made fresh! I'd definitely order the black daal again. Can't speak to the service because I did not dine in. The restaurant itself was lovely and felt very inviting.
I ate here solo, just to soak it all in... the aroma of spices, the buzzing energy of families and friends around me, the feeling of being fully present in the room. I ordered the lamb chops and paired them with the chicken biryani, and honestly... chef's kiss. The lamb chops were crispy on the outside, juicy inside, perfectly balanced with a tangy kick. You can taste the care in the marinade and the grill. Two generous chops, finished with a Kashmiri chilli sauce that really delivers. The chicken berry biryani was just as good (fragrant rice, tender chicken, and little pops of sweetness from the cranberries that worked beautifully!). I also had a mango fennel lassi, which was refreshing and light, and a perfect complement to the meal. To end, I took a chance on the chocolate pudding with chili. I was skeptical, but it completely won me over: warm, rich, and the texture was... mMmm so very seductively smooth. It was nothing short of perfection. And not surprisingly, the entire staff were amazing throughout--super kind, super attentive, and very on point about checking in just enough without hovering. I've been to other Dishoom locations, but this one really stands out to me personally. Not too busy, still glam, and just a really lovely place to spend time. A standout meal and experience from start to finish!
THE HYPE IS REAL. With one night left in London and zero Indian food in my system, I had to finally answer the question every Brit kept asking me: "Have you been to Dishoom yet?" On a random Thursday, the wait was an hour but no complaints on my end. My friend and I grabbed seats at the bar and ordered Tamarind Mezcalitas. Did I expect to find an actually great mezcal cocktail in London? Absolutely not. Am I thrilled it happened at an Indian restaurant? Absolutely yes. The vibe aims to evoke 1960s Bombay Iranian cafés. I can't speak to that firsthand, but the closest comparison I can offer is: Bombay meets Bourbon Street. A 1920s Indian speakeasy. Live jazz floated down from the balcony, filling the room with warmth and energy. After conferring with our server, we landed on a few dishes to share: Lamb Chops: Exquisite. Perfectly cooked with a spiced crust and plenty of meat. Makhmali Paneer: A savory marshmallow in the best way possible; charred outside, cloud-soft inside. It genuinely redefined what is possible with paneer for me. Chicken Ruby: Dishoom's take on butter chicken--and hands down the best version I've ever had. I didn't know butter chicken could taste like this. Chocolate Chai: Think Mexican hot chocolate, but less sweet and perfect with food. I didn't plan on ordering one... and ended up having two. I don't know when I'll be back in London, but I do know that when Dishoom opens in NYC, getting a seat will be nearly impossible. And deservedly so.
VEGAN REVIEW Absolutely believe the hype! Amazing vegan English breakfast with an Indian/Iranian cafe twist. Great unlimited oat milk chai. Lovely ambiance. Servers work as a team, you won't be neglected even when it's really busy. Went to multiple locations & it was consistently delicious!
This place was super yummy! The line went outside for quite some time as it's a super popular place but they managed to seat 2 of us at a 6 people table for an hour or so before another group comes in so I was extremely grateful! We only waited around 20 minutes which was great on their end because they are super great and attentive with seating walk ins. Super chic and glamorous I felt like I transported into luxury. We ordered a few things from the fish appetizer (amritsari), side of greens, the special biryani and the ruby chicken curry! I also had a very yummy old fashioned. I thought the amritsari was really yummy but it gave my friend the runs for the bathroom cause it's quite spicy. The side of greens were definitely needed as a long day of London travel didn't really consist of much greens. The chef special biryani wow'd us in term of how large it was I definitely would say bring an entire family to share as it was quite salty and filled with carbs so I would say I had regrets of ordering side of rice. The ruby chicken curry was my favorite and it definitely tasted amazing with that side of rice. I can't wait to come back again and try other things on the menu!
I was seriously craving Indian food and my husband found Dishoom. We were too late for a reservation, so we decided to try our luck walking in and wow, the line was out the door! But don't worry they've got a system down. You get a buzzer and can wait at the bar, where we grabbed drinks and apps while vibing in the dim, vintage, speakeasy-style interior. The wait was about 25 minutes, which flew by with the lively atmosphere. When we sat down, we ordered: * Lamb Shank Biryani * Chicken Ruby * House Black Daal * Cheese Naan The biryani came with a flaky roti crust, and our waitress even offered to peel it back for my video . The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and every bite had meat no skimping here! The black daal was creamy, savory perfection, and paired well with everything on the table. And the Chicken Ruby? A rich, flavorful curry that had my husband talking about taking a bowl of the sauce home. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. We'll definitely be back next time we are in London. We knew we wanted to eat here when we were in London, so fortunately we reserved. We got our table right away even though there was a queue. The service was fantastic which is a feat itself when you think of how busy it is. A well oiled machine. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the Ruby Chicken, Grilled Greens and Tandoori Chaat. All were amazing. We loved our experience here. Would come again and highly recommend
Went here based on YouTube travel videos. Also, made a reservation ahead of time because of its popularity. If you like spicy food, this is the place for you. We've had spicy food in Southern California, but in comparison to how it was here, what we had before was toned down. There's no holding back at this restaurant. I wondered why the portions seemed small and just contributed it to European culture until I realized the food is so spicy that we could only eat so much in one sitting. The servers were friendly enough, although I wish they had left the pitcher of water on our table instead of us waiting for them to refill our cups. Better yet, milk might have been better. As for the restaurant itself, it's a mix of retro and modern. The bathrooms were really retro, like the toilets had the pull chain and the sink had the 2 different faucets for hot and cold. It's a nice restaurant, just know that eating the food here is like being on an episode of "Hot Ones".
Whenever we are in the area, my friends and I frequent this place pretty often. This time I switched it up and decided to try the lamb chops and okra fries. To my surprise, it was perfect. I ordered a side of rice but honestly the lamb is so well seasoned you don't even need the rice. As for the fries, it was my first time trying along with my friends. They're very picky eaters but tried to be open minded. When I say all our faces changed after trying it. We ended up with three bowls because no one wanted to share. I know many have their own idea of okra but I promise you it's worth a try. A small reminder as well, while they tend to seat pretty quickly, it'll save you the headache to make reservations ahead especially if you're like us and had a party of 5-6 ppl.
Was able to make a reservation here earlier in the day for dinner. Dishoom is one of the most popular Indian restaurants in London. This one is located in Kensington. First off, the staff are so genuinely friendly and helpful. We arrived early and were quickly seated. For our party of 3, we ordered the Nalli Nihari Biryani: a rice, lamb, and lots of spices covered by a puff pastry. My description doesn't do this dish justice as it was so flavorful. I don't like lamb, as it usually has some gamey taste. There was none of that here. It was tender and so flavorful. We also ordered Tandoori Chaat, which had pineapple and sweet potatos. So many flavors and it all went well together. The chicken tikka was good and came out as expected. The chicken ruby was fantastic, and had so much flavor, with just a bit of spicy kick. We thought there was going to be so much leftover, but between the three of us, we almost polished off everything. This easily was the best Indian food that I have had.
TikTok did not steer me wrong. My dad and I came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch - without a reservation - and they were able to promptly seat us - but just asked for the table back at a certain time, which was no problem for us. Their menu is meant to be shared - and share we did! I started with their watermelon sharbart - like watermelon juice and soda water - very light and refreshing. Then, we shared lamb samosas, the dishoom chaat, the chef's special, and a chicken roti wrap. Honestly, we didn't even touch the roti wrap and took it home because we were so stuffed after everything else. The samosas were hot, fragrant and delish. The chaat was exceptional - sweet, spicy, tangy - but also warm and cold; it was a sensory experience. The chef's special was lamb with rice and chicken liver, served in this flaky dough and...it was just so good. The whole meal was amazing. And service was fantastic as well; he took time to explain the menu, gave his recommendations, and was great at making sure we always had chilled tap water (a novelty in London). While we were stuffed and didn't try it, dessert looked amazing. I did take a chocolate chai to go and...YUM. It was decadent and the perfect sweet treat to end the dining experience.
Another day of being disappointed by another Dishoom branch. I really do not understand the hype at all. It's intensely fine and the vibe is nice and the service is good but the food is so aggressively mediocre I just can't fathom why this place has the reputation it does. I've tried all of the hits on the menu at other locations (black daal is good, chicken ruby is good, okra fries are good, broccoli salad is as good as a broccoli salad can get) so tonight I opted for something else and got the pau bhaji. As with everything else I've had at Dishoom, it was good, and adequately priced. Would I order it again? No. Would I recommend it? Not really. The best thing I've had at a Dishoom branch to date is an espresso martini which is a bizarre thing to say about a chain of popular Indian restaurants but for me it's the truth. Service really is good though and they have a smooth system. You can get out for under £20 a person easily if you aren't drinking.

This was a recommendation that I got from a lot of friends who lived in/visited London, and it certainly did not disappoint! Since I had a party of 2, I couldn't get a dinner reservation (they only do reservations for parties of 6 or more after 5:45 PM), so we just walked in to the Kensington location around 7 PM on a Sunday evening. The wait was estimated to be under 1 hour and 15 min, and we got our seats around 45 min to 1 hour of waiting. While you wait, you have the option of sitting at their bar and ordering some drinks, though there was also a line for the bar when we were there (maybe took around 20 min to get seated at the bar). For drinks, we ordered the Colaba Colada and Bollybellini. Both were amazing cocktails and definitely something I haven't had elsewhere! We also got a Chocolate Chai and a Mango Lassi after we were seated at our table, and we also thoroughly enjoyed these as well. I would recommend all of these drinks. For food, we ordered the Chicken Tikka, Garlic Naan, and the Nalli Nihari Biryani (Chef's Kensington Special). Overall, all of the food was amazing! The chicken was a bit salty for my taste, but it was fine paired with the lime and the naan. The lamb was something special that I've never had before, and it certainly did not disappoint! The food was good for a party of 2, and we even had leftovers to enjoy. Service here was very attentive, and everyone was nice. I'm glad I was able to try out this place during my trip! read more

Not your typical old fashioned, small family run Indian place -- this joint was rocking on a recent Friday night at 10pm - loud music, bustling wait staff, and pretty full (although we walked in and got seated right away at a comfy booth). Waiter was very helpful and we shared some unique dishes: 1. Chicken Ruby - so good, flavorful with curry and poured over Naan Bread. 10/10 2. House Chaat - Sweet potato dish with Tamarind and many other goodies. 10/10 2. Pau Bhaji - Bombay classic - didn't need the buns. 9/10 They have several other locations and we'd come back to any of them in the future. Fabulous Indian with some unique dishes and lively atmosphere in a converted old department store from the 50's with great art deco touches. read more

So we have now dined her twice in the past four days! M daughter and I for dinner and the whole Family with a friend for lunch today. Dinner reservations are tricky, limited, so we walked up and waited 90 minutes! But they have this down to a s Ken e! After about 3 minutes we were invited to the bar, pulled up a stool and enjoyed a glass of wine and a 1948 cocktail. My wine was good but my daughters cocktail was art! After another 40 minutes we were seated as fir sat. The dinning room is beautiful Art Deco but a little loud. Our food was excellent Prawn Koliwada, Chili Chicken and an amazing Roti. For lunch today we expanded and tried several other dishes, my favorite being the Nalli Nihari Biryani so delicious. read more
Hands out the best indian food I have ever had in my entire life! Everything tasted amazing and was cooked so well. The lamb chops were so good. They were spiced exceptionally well and full of flavor. They are a must. Chicken Tikka tasted amazing and had a strong kick of spice. Definitely good to try at least once, though I wouldn't order again. Definitely get an order of the Black Dal. It pairs so well with some Naan and was packed with flavor. I'm salivating writing this review just thinking about the Black Daal. Dishes are normally small, so expect to order multiple entries per person. We ordered about 5 dishes between the two of us in order to get full from the food. read more

In London for a day - getting late in Kensington, and it's time for a good meal. Dishoom is the place. The wait is well worth it - we spent that time enjoying their creative cocktails in the Permit Room. The food is always amazing - and this place is pretty big with two levels. Live music on a Friday evening. Finger licking good Indian dishes like the Keema Pav, Lamb Chops, Chicken Ruby, Daal Makhani and Murg Malai. The place has a vibe that is infectious and you will leave with all smiles. read more
This was easily the best meal we had in the UK. I could not recommend this place more highly. There was a 90-minute wait--and it was so worth it! The servers made great suggestions. after hearing so many people raving about dishoom, we decided that we needed to try it while in london. as an indian-american, i do have to say that the food was delicious--indian food with a slightly modern take! definitely make a reservation in advance (there are many locations in london), though if you are less than 6 people, i believe you can only reserve time slots before ~6:00pm. we came at 5:15pm on a sunday. we were instantly greeted and promptly brought inside to be seated. the kensington location is quite busy inside, but the service was friendly and attentive. the table comes with the three house chutneys--wow they were so flavorful and contrasted (but also complimented) each other very well. the red and green ones had a bit of spice, but the date chutney was sweet. i ended up putting these in most of my bites! // house chaat // we ordered this on a whim but it was actually my favorite dish. a light with coolness from the greek yogurt, sweetness from the pomegranate and warm sweet potato, crunch, and freshness from the veggies. i really enjoyed the mix of flavors in this and appreciated the lightness since the main dishes are quite heavy. note: none of the dishes come with naan or rice so you must order them additionally. for two mains, my friend and i shared two orders of naans. i wish that at least some carb was included in the main though. // house black daal // everyone raves about this dish so we had to get it. it was tasty and i could pick up the roasted/smokey flavor from the 24 hour cooking time, but overall i felt it lacked some flavor and depth. it tasted like a simple daal to me (it was still pleasant though, but nothing crazy) // chicken ruby // the chicken was tender and in a bright red sauce. a bit of spice, but in my opinion this dish was very salty. especially going from eating the daal to then the ruby, i felt like it could have been way less salty for my taste. it was still yummy though especially with the naan. // garlic naan, cheese naan // we ordered a garlic naan and cheese naan. each order comes with two (smaller) pieces. the garlic naan could have had more garlic flavor in my opinion! the cheese naan is a plain naan with cheese inside. // dishoom chocolate pudding // it was my birthday so our server kindly treated us to the chocolate pudding and omg! it was really good. the chocolate pudding was super rich and dark which i loved, and the ice cream was so interesting with the kashmiri chili -- i could feel the tingling at the end of each bite. overall, a pleasant experience at dishoom. definitely try it out if you haven't had much indian food, or if you're looking for a nicer ambiance with slightly modernized dishes. the portions don't look that big but dishes are quite heavy so between two people, 1 appetizer 2 main dishes 2 naans and 1 dessert left us so stuffed! read more

Dishoom was always one of those places recommended by my coworkers and expat college friends. I finally had a work trip to London and had the energy to dine out with colleagues. In typical 2022 Silvie fashion, I chose the orange wine while waiting for our table to be cleared. The bar area was pretty lively, people continuously filtered in and out as the sun went down. Once in the dining room, I ordered a chicken tikka wrap and the corn appetizer for myself and a pav bhaji for the table. I also tasted the prawn koliwada and chili chicken, which were absolutely delicious. Most proteins in Indian food that I've had stateside have been dry, so having (what seemed like) a la minute dishes was a treat. Dinner ended with another glass of wine and the chocolate pudding with chili ice cream, which tasted like a rich lava cake. In the end, the charge was a lot lower than I was expecting. Do note that there is an optional shared service charge which you can have removed if you felt like the service was lacking. Hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. read more

Made the traditional way, or with oat milk. I looove this drink! Orka fries- awesome 4 1/2 stars House Chaat- Mmmmmm 5 stars Chicken Tikka - a little dry but tasty 4 stars DISHOOM HOUSE CHAAT Really complex and awesome! Warm-cold, sweet-tangy, moreish. Golden fried sweet potato covered with cool yoghurt, pomegranate, beetroot, radish and carrot. Tamarind drizzle and gree. Chicken Briyanni - Tempting and flavourful pot of chicken, ginger, garlic, mint, coriander and rice cooked together in the Kacchi style. An homage to Britannia's Chicken Berry Pulao, with cranberries. 13.50 - 4 stars CHEF'S KENSINGTON SPECIAL NALLI NIHARI BIRYANI (5 stars) sooo yummy! This is what I come for! Nihari - a famously hearty and robust dish - is synonymous with celebration. Made into a biryani, it is doubly so. Tender shank of lamb is layered with rice and caramelised onions then sealed beneath a pastry blanket. Enriched further with kaleji (chicken liver) raita and nihari gravy. 19.70 (2050 kcal) HOUSE BLACK DAAL (3 stars) are with garlic naan. It was only ok . A Dishoom signature dish - dark, rich, deeply flavoured. It is cooked over 24 hours for extra harmony. (V) 7.50 (455 kcal) SPICY LAMB CHOPS Two chops of generous proportions. They lie overnight in a special marinade of lime juice, warm dark spices, ginger and garlic. Served pink, for juiciness. An epic dish! We always go here whenever we're in London! It's a modern fusion Indian restaurant and I swear by their food and their service!!! We always get their chai tea which is an absolute must! We shared some appetizers/small plates with friends and our staples are the garlic naan, fried okra and keema pau. For our main we got chicken ruby, chef's special biryani (absolutely delicious), dishoom chicken tikka and masala prawns. Everything was soooo delicious that's why we keep coming back! Unfortunately I was only able to take a picture of the chef's biryani. We were so hungry and excited that I forgot to take pictures! read more

I'm not one to leave reviews but Dishoom was absolutely top notch! Maybe it's the two cocktails I had (India Gimlet + Mezcal Irani Margarita) while I waited (well worth the wait), but I had to share my experience. I'm honestly glad I had time to enjoy the cocktails because they were both fantastic. I chatted with a few people in the Permit Room, and their recommendations did not disappoint. I was dining by myself, but I ordered enough for two anyway. My waitress was extremely helpful in advising the right choices, so I ended up with the okra fries to start, broccoli chili salad, chicken tikka with the house black daal, and garlic naan. I left completely stuffed, but I wouldn't cut a single thing, and if I could do it again I'd do it the same. Except I'm sure everything else is just as good, so maybe I'd try something new! Best meal in London! Our server Andrea was the kindest and had the best recommendations on dishes. We also suggested we shared everything which I agree with. Loved the Indian gimlet drink to start. We started with the vegetable samosas. It came with 4. Pretty good. We got the Broccoli chili salad and it tasted very great, great veggie addition to the mix. The ruby chicken was my favorite and paired it with naan. We got both normal and garlic naan. The Chef Kensington Special was recommended to us and it was amazing. Tender lamb and great rice. Lastly the chocolate pudding and chili ice cream was surprisingly delicious. read more
Recommended by my friend who has family who lives in London. Glad I made reservations for lunch because this place is packed and super busy throughout the day. Very large interior and old school interior mixed with modern. The tables are somewhat close to each other. We did take a little over 2 hours to eat not because we eat slowly but because of the wait time. But that was A-okay because all staff was friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, and helpful in ordering. I believe they were slightly understaffed so we understood. The curry was absolutely delicious and the highlight was the garlic naan. It was delightful and so tasty. The flavor was spot on! read more

I know people absolutely love this place and I was so excited to try it. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice, and if I wasn't, I'm sure I would give this place a higher rating. It was just a bit too spicy for me and the flavor wasn't something I hadn't experienced before. The staff was very nice and the restaurant was very busy. We did make a reservation well in advance. They have a gluten free (or intolerance) menu which is very appreciated. read more

This restaurant is easily 6/5 stars! After walking around Kensington Gardens, we were ready for lunch. We arrived at Dishoom and were told it was an hour wait. Normally this would turn me away, but something made me want to stay and wait it out. I am so glad I did. They were right- it was about an hour, yet the time passed easily as we sat at a countertop and ordered drinks. We shared the honey, lemon & ginger pot of tea which was fantastic. It was a perfect blend of sweetness and spice with no flavor overpowering another. I normally take my tea with sweetener but this tea was perfect as it was. Once seated, Danny walked us through the menu and made honest suggestions. Per his advice, we shared the NALLI NIHARI BIRYANI: "Nihari - a famously hearty and robust dish - is synonymous with celebration. Made into a biryani, it is doubly so. Tender shank of lamb is layered with rice and caramelised onions then sealed beneath a pastry blanket. Enriched further with kaleji (chicken liver) raita and nihari gravy. Best when shared." My partner and I agreed that this was easily the best meal of our lives. He had never tried Indian food before and was grateful he saved this experience for Dishoom. There were so many layers of flavor from the saffron rice, the flaky and buttery pastry, and the savory lamb that legitimately fell off of the bone. I am not sure where the chicken liver was, and I was nervous to try it as I typically do not like liver, but the whole meal was divine so I must have enjoyed the liver wherever it was. The lamb and rice was great on its own but even better when you added a raw red onion slice and covered it in the nihari gravy. The gravy added a layer of spice and heat that I loved and even my anti-heat partner was able to handle it. The table came with three chutneys that are typically paired with samosas, but I tried the mint chutney with the garlic naan and fell in love with the combo; it really cooled and cleansed my palate in between bites. The portion was also perfect for two- I typically do not share meals with my partner because he ends up eating 3/4 and leaves me with a few bites, but this size was perfect and left us feeling full. This was arguably the most affordable meal of my trip, which is interesting considering it has also been the best meal of my trip. I plan on returning for a second experience before my trip concludes. read more

When in London, eat where the locals eat and across the board a visit to London is incomplete without a visit to Dishoom. We are still in London, have been twice, and will try and go one more time. One of the best restaurants that you can absolutely guarantee a fantastic meal. From the moment we walked in we were treated like incredibly special guest. The guy who sat us (long wavy hair, beautiful smile) is such a valuable addition, his joy set the mood for our evening. As always, and it seems in every Dishoom restaurant, it was packed, but that made no difference. The restaurant is like a well oiled machine with everything working to perfection. We started with veg samosa's very good. Then chicken Ruby Murray, Murgh Malai, garlic naan, and rice. All were excellent. I wish we had ordered one more main, although we were stuffed, you always leave wanting more. Ruby Murray, the chicken melted in our mouths. The sauce was superb, needed more heat, but my husband can't take too much heat and our waiter anticipated that and brought 3 more sauces to our table, pointing out the spiciest out to me. Our waiter's favorite dish is the Murgh Malai, he said he has it daily, it is chunks of chicken thighs grilled to perfection, excellent and very different than what I would have ordered, grateful for his suggestion. I have gone on and on but the restaurant deserves it. While you are there, walk the area, it is half open air mall and half closed. Filled with restaurants, shops, and very upscale. Open air area along the Thames, seating, gorgeous. And last...Our son and his friends joined us for the beginning of our trip and he insisted we take the Uber boat. Right on the Thames with many pick ups and drop off's we took it two stops last night from Battersea to Chelsea Harbor and the cost was £1.32 each. To get to Dishoom we took a taxi from Chelsea Harbor and it cost £26. Busy with traffic. Take the boat! read more

Unique place, not familiar with Indian food but everything we ate was wonderful. Sorry I can't tell you more about what we ate, there's was a lamb pot pie speciality kind of thing, naan cheesey bread, chicken in a pot with rice.
