Came here for a corporate dinner and was led to the back of the restaurant where all the corporate dinners were happening (based on the attire of the other large tables)! Love that they have some mocktail options, especially because work events tend to have a lot of drinking and I didn't want to partake. The drinks were tasty AND cute, which is great! The food was tasty, we ordered so much of it. I really liked the appetizer platter with all the difference sauces/items, maybe most of all the babaganouj? The lamb dish I ordered (I forgot the name, but it was a tower) had very tender meat. (Picture attached.) I will admit, I'm not all that likely to come back here on my own. DishDash has been a Bay Area institution as far as Mediterranean cuisine is concerned for over two decades. This restaurant is their flagship fine-dine version, while the other one in Sunnyvale called DishNDash is their casual, take-out, grab-and-go location. We've had lunch here so many times, and every time, we've left full and happy. They have ample space outdoors and inside, and the service is fast and friendly. It feels fancy but homely at the same time. On a recent visit, we tried our usual favorites - Beriani Dajaj (Chicken) and Tabsi (Chilean Sea Bass), and also tried a couple of new items - the Mansaf (Lamb) and Sambusak Dajaj. The lamb was okay, but the Chicken and Fish dishes were just fantastic. The Dajaj is a complete meal: the right combination of meat, rice, veggies - savory, sweet, tart, and immensely rich. The fish is so well cooked, and that eggplant sauce is delicious in the Tabsi. I also had a whiskey-based cocktail, which was very interesting. Best cocktail I have ever had. I don't know if it was the refreshing combination of rose water and mint, or the tamarind (?) rim, but The Souk was the smoothest cocktail I've ever ordered from any restaurant. I also ordered the Chicken Hummus, yellow rice, and more hummus. I couldn't get enough of how smooth and satisfying the hummus was so I ordered more along with the fresh, juicy chicken on top. The yellow rice was a perfect side order and came with enough for two people. Service was superior, we weren't waiting long before a server came to help us. The indoor seating is a tiny bit crowded but not a big deal; the bar was the most gorgeous part of the interior so I will definitely grab a seat there next time. The best part? Really big restaurant located in downtown San Jose. They have various "Dish N Dash" restaurants which are the same thing but takeout only. We were only there for drinks/snacks so I tried the babaghounash (sp). I thought it was ok. My partner really liked it. Pita was fine. We also got complementary pita with some kind of mediterranean olive oil dip which was ok. The falafels were really tasty esp with the hot sauce. Would come back to try more next time. read more

Amazing Mediterranean food. Attentive staff with fresh food! Started off with warm and fluffy pita with the babaghanouge. Balanced well and loved the garlic on it. The chicken shawarma was huge for one person and was filled with chicken and hummus. Great flavor. The fries were also seasoned well with pepper like spices. Since moving to Sunnyvale about 6 months ago, I've continued to hear great things about Dish Dash and I'm glad I finally got to try it! My boyfriend and I shared the sambusak dajaj, mansaf and kufta kebab, and really enjoyed all of it. For starters, the complimentary pita bread was very good. The pita bread was soft and easy to split apart, and we liked the spices in the oil. The sambusak dajaj hit the spot! The meat was incredibly tender and juicy, and was balanced nicely with the sweet onions and raisins. I could've just eaten a plate of these! The mansaf was delicious. The lamb was also fall-apart tender and while I'm not sure what all was in it, the sauce was amazing. I honestly could've done without the kebab dish. It was objectively good, but not as flavorful or tender as the other dishes; plus, the servings were large so it was a lot of food, even sharing. For dessert, we ordered the ice cream with baklava crumble, which was also great! There was a good proportion of baklava to ice cream, and crispy to smooth. We really enjoyed sitting outside on Murphy Street. Even when the sun went down and it got a little chilly, the heaters kept us warm and it just felt really calm / peaceful out. The service was decent but nothing to write home about; they forgot my boyfriend's drink at the beginning and multiple people continued to come back and ask us if we wanted more bread / they continued to bring us bread even though we said no, but these were minor nuisances. This is my all time favorite place! Since Covid, they have opened up the street to have seating and it feels like being in Europe. Tables next to each other and everyone busy in their own conversations. The service is top notch - someone is filling water, others are bringing you spicy sauce, they check on you but don't disturb you. When people ask me what to order, you can't go wrong with any dish! While it maybe be cold sometimes outside, the outdoor heat lamps will do you right! But the main star of the show here is of course: THE FOOD! You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. I've tried numerous locations including Dish n Dash and while every single one has been great, the Sunnyvale DishDash is always my favorite to return to. Ambiance is very nice. Slightly louder but can still have a conversation. Great for both dates and family outings and there's always something for everyone! My personal favorite dish is the combo kebab because I can never decide between the chicken and the kufta... with the combo I get both plus a choice of beef or lamb. Came here on Thursday at 4:55pm before the atmospheric rain bomb came through. Parked in the parking lot across Washington street with the AMC theater on the far opposite side. Additional parking garage one block away next to Target, and two blocks away at the parking garage behind AMC theater/Whole foods. Place was empty, so they gave us a prime window seat in the auxiliary room, far away from the cold breezy entrance. Great ambiance with window views of Christmas decorations on Murphy Street. Overhead lamps of Middle Eastern heritage. Six pieces of complimentary delicious heated white bread with dipping oil. Ate those in no time, but declined offer of more bread. We order at 5:10 pm and our dishes come at 5:30pm Wife's $25.75 m'shakaleh comes with layers of sliced almonds, cooked mushroom, tomatoes, eggplant, cauliflower, tomato in an incredibly tasty sweet yogurt sauce. I ordered the $37.75 combo kebab with three kebabs in order of size: chicken the largest, lamb and kufta being the smallest . The largest of the kebabs was the 9" white breast chicken with almost no flavor, except for combining the spicy flavorful yogurt sauce from the M'shakaleh, which made an average dish outstanding. Loved the kufta which had minced lamb and beef with lots of onions, but only about 4' long The 7" lamb shank was OK, but hardly worth the $37.75, as on the bland side, until I mixed it with the yogurt sauce. Gave the medium rare center cuts to my wife. Given a choice, I would take beef kabobs next time. Dish came with fried brussel sprouts, but would have preferred cauliflower, tomato, and/or broccoli. We had our choice of basmati rice, freekeh, spiced potatoes, seasonal vegetables -we both choose freekeh, a wheat rice. Haven't been here since 2018. The m'shakaleh was $21 in 2018, and the combo kebab was $26 in 2018, now $37.75, up 50%! Cost us over $80 with tax and tip for two main entrees, one of which was vegetarian, without salad, appetizer, dessert, alcohol nor soft drinks. When we left at 6pm it was standing room only, with every seat in the two chamber restaurant taken. I really enjoyed my takeout experience here. I had been wanting to try this place as I'd heard it's very popular in the Bay Area. I ordered the maza for two, beriani dajaj, and pita. The maza was actually my favorite, even though the beriani dajaj is apparently super popular. I loved the hummus, baba ghanouj, muhammara, and khyar bi laban the most. They all tasted incredibly distinctive and far and beyond what you'd normally get at the store or even a quality middle eastern restaurant. The baba ghanouj had a wonderfully deep, smoky flavor, the muhammara was addictively sweet and savory with vibrant caramelized red pepper notes, and the khyar bi laban (cucumber yogurt salad) was so creamy and balanced. I could have eaten these dips as a standalone meal. The pita itself is pretty standard but had a great texture. As for the beriani dajaj, it was incredibly creamy but a little too rich and lacking in nuance for my preference. I was expecting more depth and layers of flavors, but I think the reason people like it so much is because of its richness that is supposed to be balanced out by the sweetness of the raisins. My experience as takeout was that the chicken was decently cooked, and I liked the addition of the raisins, but it felt overwhelmingly like a giant, single-note cream sauce with some chicken and raisins, beans, and potatoes that were fun to pick at. Overall, I really appreciated getting a chance to try this Bay Area institution. The dips in the maza were definitely the highlight of the meal for me! read more

I drove about 45 minutes from Castro Valley to try Dishdash, specifically for their shawarma. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When I arrived, the host didn't acknowledge me at first--no greeting or eye contact--until I spoke up. I was eventually seated, but the welcome felt very cold. A server came by shortly after with a pretty unfriendly attitude and asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a few minutes. Later, another staff member took my order, but when I asked for a shawarma wrap and knafeh, I was told the shawarma wrap wasn't available for dinner--even though it was only around 3 PM. The interaction felt dismissive, and overall I just didn't feel comfortable or welcomed. I decided not to order and asked to speak with a manager to share my experience, but there was no real response or effort to address the situation. No apology, no attempt to make things right. It's disappointing, especially after making the drive out. I hope they work on improving their customer service. read more

The portion sizes here are pretty generous, and after eating so much of the starter pita, I became full very quickly. Not sure if the place has a new owner, but things have changed at that restaurant. I used to take my lunch meetings to that place and was my favorite spot for dinner. The staff were just OK, not the best. We ordered the Kufta Kebab and the Teka Kebab plates, we wanted both well done. After 30 min, the food arrived with a well done flag. The rice was COLD, we asked them to reheat it. The food came back. It was not very hot and the meat was still red on the inside, it was not even medium done! I tried to eat it, not much flavor, as if it was sitting there for a while. We just paid the $$$$ and left. I really wanted to like it, but the experience was not good. Came back for a relaxing lunch. We had the Maza sampler for starters - super nice variety. I had the lamb salad, super big portion, with lots of flavor. I love the mansaf and it's super rich. The suneyet kofta was interesting. It was a baked dish with lamb, beef, herbs, peppers, potatoes, onions and tomatoes in the dish and came with rice. Do you pour it over the rice or add the rice to the dish? Your choice of course but we would try a different dish next time. It's a popular place so either make a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit. The expansion of outdoor seating is fantastic for nice weather days. There's plenty of parking in the Caltrain garage, the underground garage, or the nearby parking lots. One tip: If you tell someone to meet you at "Dish Dash" make sure they don't go to "Dish-n-Dash" a few miles away. It's a related restaurant, but quite different. read more

This restaurant is my absolute favorite in Sunnyvale! They have a dish called Shish Taouk which is heavenly! It's grilled chicken cubes with basmati rice with a garlic sauce and a mint sauce. It is served with Brussels sprouts. It's. 10/10 for me!!! I just tried their lamb shank today and it was fall off the bone FIRE!!! Their appetizers are delicious and they have this sampler platter. They usually start you out with warm pita bread with a plate of za'atar (?). Customer service is on point!!! Wendy, our server, was so friendly and attentive along with her support staff and Aidet, the manager, stopped by our table to check on us!
