We have had it on our to do list for a while to visit Dish because we had seen it on Food Network. When we moved to Charlotte we were finally able to do so. I should also preface this with saying that I am a vegetarian so perhaps that has my vision of here a little off. When we first walked in I was already turned off, I mean I know it's a diner and I totally support that but it was not a very 'inviting' atmosphere to me. Luckily it was nice out so we were able to sit on the patio, we had the place basically to ourselves. Our waitress was ok, but was pretty boring honestly. She wasn't rude or inattentive just didn't seem like the happiest person. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and there was barely any tomato, just the corn meal crust. I had the veggie burrito and was less than impressed, it wasn't terrible just extremely bland and nothing special. It doesn't come with a side but it was more than enough to fill you up. My husband got the veggie burger topped with pimento cheese and a side of potato salad, again nothing special. I tried it and it was ok but not something I would ever want again given the choice. read more

Have been here several times with the office for our weekly lunch together. I really like the quesadillas even though they are not what the restaurant is known for. Their salsa is also pretty good. Service is usually fast but note that they cannot seat partial parties so be sure to arrive with everyone in tow! read more

I bring all my out of town family to experience Dish. It's great Southern food in a quaint atmosphere at reasonable prices. I tend to always order the meatloaf. I just can't get enough of it. I also think the quesadillas are pretty darn good. I wasn't crazy about the Chicken and Biscuits, but then again it's not one of my favorite things but I thought I should try it. Collared greens are great too. Definitely a must try place. read more

Chicken fried steak is great, i highly recommend it. The prices are amazing and its very affordable for a family to eat here. Drinks are reasonable as well. Each dinner comes with a fresh biscuit and a deviled egg. All meals here are fresh and made from scratch. I highly recommend this place to anyone that loves good old American home cooking. read more

Food was delicious and our waitress was really sweet and attentive. It did have a dirty feel/vibe to it though which was hard to get past.

This was my second time visiting this fine establishment. When I say fine, I mean down home. It certainly isn't flashy but that isn't what you go to a southern joint for. I cannot remember exactly what I got the first time, I think it was the country style steak, but I know it was awesome because I wanted to go back since then. This time, I got the cajun meatloaf with mashed taters and a side of mac n cheese. It was amazing! The biscuit that came with it helped me make sure nothing was left on the plate. We also had the fried green maters for an app. They were so good that my wife, who cannot stand to eat tomatoes, had some. They were extra good with their dipping sauce. I love this hole in the wall place! I have never been disappointed by a dish I've gotten there (see what I did there... Pun) The staff are all very friendly and are prompt at greeting you and seating you quickly. The homestyle vegetables are my favorite! Parking is a hassle, but if you're lucky you can find something across the street or back behind the Post Office. read more

My wife and I have been to Dish more times than I can count and it's always been awesome. We brought visiting family when they were in town and now each time they come Dish is a must have. I have tried the meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, pot roast and my personal favorite the country fried steak. My least favorite dish there is the meatloaf but still it's not bad. Must try appetizers are the fried green tomatoes and the potato balls. Dish is just good old home cooking like your southern grandma would do and you get a whole dinner at really good price. Dish is the first, and still the best place I've been to in Charlotte. I'm from Alabama so I was really hoping I'd be able to find a good southern spot up here. I got lucky in that I was brought here first. I guess I'll start with the bad. Parking sucks. But it's in Plaza Midwood so I don't know how exactly anyone could fix this. Every time I come into Dish the host and service are absolutely top notch. I've come in 30 minutes before close (about when you'll start getting spit in your food) and the kitchen was still humming along and we were served quickly with a hot meal. You really can't go wrong. The mexican food is a little idiosyncratic but my friends tell me it's amazing. The meatloaf sliders are PERFECT as an appetizer, and fried green tomatoes are fantastic as well. Greens and mashed potatoes and mac + cheese are all top notch. I've had the fried steak and fried chicken. The biggest thing about Dish even after all the great service in food is that when you leave you're satisfied. The prices and portions are perfect balanced to where I don't feel like I've been ripped off. It's comfort food so in no way shape or form should you depend on Dish to help you keep your diet, but I also don't feel totally disgusting and bloated afterward either which is a feat in itself. Best fried green tomatoes ever ever. Veggie burger is awesome too; homemade with chickpeas, none of that frozen-mushroom-rice-patty nonsense. Plaza Midwood has better restaurant options than Dish. I had heard good things about this place but I wasn't impressed. The service was slow considering that they weren't that busy. We ordered the southwestern veggies burgers and they were a bit Blah. I also ordered a side of sweet mashed potatoes. They were good but nothing to write home about. All-in-all an average dining experience. Nothing special and barely southern; just because you have something like 4 southern dishes on the menu...it is mostly American dishes though. read more

Wow. If you like southern comfort food then this is the place for you. I came in on. Friday night just as they were getting busy. I was by myself but sat at the mini bar area in the front. I ordered the fried green tomatoes - best I've ever had. Not too much batter but just enough for the crunch. The horseradish dip was an excellent complement for it. I then had to try the chicken and biscuits. Perfectly scrumptious. Tastes like someone just cooked it up as did everything. It came with a yummy biscuit and deviled egg. I chose the honey carrots as the side. All outstanding. It tasted like a home cooked meal that your mom or grandma would make. Amazing. Also the prices are so low. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything looks and tastes homemade down to the green beans where you can tell they were cooked with just the right amount of salt, sugar, and bacon. You really get the most bang for your buck here. read more

Delish! I had the meatloaf sandwich, so yummy and full of flavor. We enjoyed ourselves. Got seated immediately when it looked like it was going to be a busy night. Service was great fast and efficient. My mother had the tomato soup, which is out of this world! She also had the pimento cheese sandwich served nice and warm and Crisp. to die for as well. The bartender served us and was very gracious and seemed very happy! We will definitely be going back, even talked it up to my friends tonight. They were so jealous that I had gone. Almost like home cooking. Service is on the slow side, but our waitress had to run two sections, so I guess the fault is with management. They seem to have an issue with keeping food warm. We got the veggie sliders as an app and they were good, but on the lukewarm side. Then we ordered chicken n dumplings and country fried steak for our meal. The chicken and dumplings were yummy, but outright cold and I had to send them back. The gravy on the country fried steak was good and peppery.
