There is a takeout location on Tryon and the dine in restaurant is on JM Keynes. Location: shopping plaza by the boardwalk in the university area. Plenty of parking. We walked the boardwalk after dinner, nice bonus. Spacious patio as well as plenty of indoor seating with half booths, low tables as well as high top tables. Full service bar. Food: yummy! They brought out two cornbread muffins while we waited for our orders. Nice and sweet. For an appetizer we got the everything green dip. Five stars! Comes with tortilla chips. I was almost full so for my meal I got a side of seafood Mac n cheese and a side of mixed vegetables. I still didn't eat all of my food. Nice portion sizes. The side of Mac was $9 the entree of Mac was $26. If I go back and get the entree I would definitely share it. Sooooo good, nice and creamy and cheesy, huge pieces of shrimp. My friend got the turkey wings. I watched the meat fall off the bone as she ate. She got garlic parmesan. She liked the dip so much she ordered the greens as a side. You get two with your entree. Ambiance: great music! R&B vibe. It was kind of challenging to carry a conversation so I would not pick this as a romantic date spot. Quite a few stairs outside as well as inside fyi. Service: the only reason I'm not giving 5 overall stars is the service. Some staff were clearly hustling and others not so much. We asked for our table to be wiped down and the busboy who was supposed to come never did and we eventually just switched tables. Our server was super sweet and accommodating, just a little forgetful. After two asks for some things we just let it go. It was a very busy Thursday evening though. She was working very hard and professional. Great suggestions from her from the menu. The busboy popped up as we were finishing our meal. We saw him again as we were leaving. I had really high hopes for trying their new larger location. I went for brunch on a Saturday , arrived a little before noon. Was seated immediately outside on the beautiful patio area. However that's where the good experience ended. Took literally 20min for a waiter to even come over, in spite of seeing at least 3 different workers come out to help patrons who were seated already and eating. A couple that got seated right after me was waiting just as long. When a waitress finally came out to get my order, I wanted a drink but opted for just water because I didn't have time to be waiting even longer for refills that prob would never come on a paid drink. I went ahead and placed my order too because again, didn't need anymore time passing, especially since I had been sitting for 20min anyway had plenty time to figure what I wanted. She takes my order and immediately goes back inside, leaving the couple who came after me still waiting to even get a cup of water or any acknowledgement. It's like they can't multitask or something. I literally saw abt 4 different waiters on that small patio coming and going so couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hold ups were. Anyways only brunch was served at that time so I opted for the chicken and waffles. It was good but I think $16 for two small wings and a waffle a bit much, but everything is expensive these days. The food didn't take long to come out after I ordered. It was advertised as coming with warm maple syrup. But nope cold syrup in small lil cups. Again since I waited so long to even be served i didn't have the patience to wait for some warm syrup. Overall food was just ok, nothing to make me want to go running back for. Our first stop once we arrived for weekend in NC. Searching for one of most talked about soul food brunch spots. You walk in to a very modern & chic decorated restaurant with a dedicated bar, patio and main dining room area. They have space for live band in second floor area. The black on black decor, swirl marble flooring along with the beautiful artwork of black women sets the vibe of elegance and classiness. We had good timing because we walked in and were immediately seated. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We both were in the mood for seafood so as our app we got the salmon bites, entree was seafood Mac & cheese and an Arnold Palmer. Those salmon bites are crunchy chunks of good flavored fried salmon. We were excited to try this restaurant, but unfortunately we never even had the chance to order. We arrived right at 5:00 p.m., before the dinner rush, and were seated promptly. After that, we were completely ignored. Not a single person greeted us, not even a quick "Hi, we'll be right with you." We waited for about 10 minutes while at least five members of the waitstaff stood together at the back of the dining room, about 20 feet away, talking and laughing. Two different employees even came over to bus and wipe down the table next to us but never acknowledged us or said a single word. We understand that service can be delayed when a restaurant is busy, but that wasn't the case here. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and all it would have taken was a simple acknowledgment to let us know someone would be with us shortly. After 10 minutes of being completely ignored, we got up and walked out. It was incredibly disappointing because we were genuinely looking forward to trying this restaurant. The restaurant atmosphere is very "moody" but nicely decorated. 2 bars, 2 levels and ample seating in the waiting area. We expected it a wait since we were a large party, it was holiday season on rhe weekend, and we wee told they were understaffed that day. Either way we got drinks at the bar & the wait was about 30-40 mins. Our waitress was very pleasant, very attentive, didn't rush us and was able to promptly take our orders. The drinks were good and the food was Sooo Deiish . Food orders ranged from wings to steak, fish & turkey wings with Mac n cheese, greens, yams, oh and that cornbread!! I li the new location for Sol Delish! The artwork is beautiful. The atmosphere is great. The food is good and the service is good but the wait time still leaves a lot to be desired. There was a one hour wait on a Friday at 2:30 in the afternoon. But in their defense, once you were seated and placed your order, the food came out fairly quickly. We ordered the jerk and Parmesan turkey wings, which slid off the bone, mac & cheese, which was delicious yams which were amazing, and that everything greens, which were really good as well. I had bookmarked Sol'Delish for awhile and they happened to open a location that was walking distance from my hotel. Met some friends here and it was packed on a Tuesday night. We sat at the high top tables near the bar and Imani took amazing care of us from beginning to end. I had never had fried salmon before so had to try that and had the mac and cheese and grilled vegetables as my side. The mac and cheese was really good but wish it was a bit hotter as it came out a bit cold. The mixed veggies were okay, a bit too overcooked for my liking. The salmon was unfortunately very overcooked, but with the tartar sauce and hot sauce I asked for on the side it tasted a bit better. Everyone else really loved their food and next time I would order the fried fish for sure! For dessert we had the sweet potato cake and it was really moist and delicious. Be prepared to wait because this place does not take reservations and the line is usually long. I waited for a little over an hour for a table of 3. I will say that it was really good food though. The cornbread was complimentary and it was more pancake like and not really giving cornbread to me. The fried flounder plate was great. It was well seasoned and well fried. This place is a soul food haven! Now, I went to the new location that has plenty of space and plenty of seating. There is a high top bar area with more of a happy hour vibe and the more restaurant area behind it with booths and tables. But I have to admit, the service was a bit interesting. Everyone was nice, but the food came out slow, there were mix ups in the orders, and it was hard to get side plates and refills at times. Overall, the turkey wings WERE SO TENDER! The Mac and cheese was well done, great green beans, and amazing yams. This is a meal you leave with leftovers and I feel the pricing was affordable. I finally had the chance to experience Sol Delish in the University area of Charlotte. Last weekend I had family in town and we visited Sol delicious on Saturday. My experience was so good that I returned again on Sunday. The wait was about one hour, but it was very organized. I knew where my place in line was, and I had time to walk around and visit other shops before getting back in line. I really can't understand where the negative reviews come in because my experience each time was a five out of five. On Saturday my waitress was Fatimah. She was very personable and professional. She helped make suggestions on the menu as well as drink options. When our food arrived to the table, Fatimah constantly came around to check on us, although the restaurant was beyond busy. Unfortunately, we didn't have Fatimah as our waitress when we returned on Sunday. The food and drinks were equally as good. The waitress was good, but not great. Overall I would constantly come back to this restaurant and wait in line to enjoy the delicious food. The turkey wings are so tender- They practically fall off of the bone. I called the restaurant several times to ask questions and place a ToGo order. I could not get an answer. So, I sent the order to My sister to place the order and bring it to Me. I ordered: Baked Garlic Parmesean Wings Meal with Yellow Rice and Candied Yams $17.50(Online Menu Price) I asked for All FLATS and Extra Garlic Parm Cream CornBread Sweet Potato Pound Cake $5.50(Online Menu Price) As they were leaving, My sister advised My bill was $45.00!!!! I questioned WHY and she said I was charged a 20% Gratuity Fee because they were a 10 person group. Even with that, the cost seemed too HIGH. I asked did she get a receipt and she said the server did not give her one. She just did a tap payment. I asked her to cancel the order. She went back inside to return the food. They would not take it back. She asked for a receipt and had to wait for a manager to get one. The receipt showed two teas that were not ordered by Me that cost $8.00 total and the Gratuity was $7.05. So, I was charged $15.00 extra and never stepped foot into the establishment. When My sister questioned WHY I was being charged the Gratuity, she was told because the ToGo order was placed by someone with a Large Party. She was told I should have called it in. I advised I called several times and got NO ANSWER and that is why I asked her to place the order for Me. Now, to get to the food. I ordered the wings based on the picture I saw online with Parm Cream on them. It was the same for the Candied Yams. Both were a disappointment. The chicken had no Garlic Parmesean Cream. The Yams and Rice were both dry. Plus, the overall presentation was subpar. The CornBread was decent. However, the Sweet Potato PoundCake was a 5/5. The cake is why I rate this experience a 2. First I will start out with scenery, it was absolutely beautiful and the music catered to the 90s. It was so calming and loved the Afrocentric pictures. The service was okay, our waiter seemed to forget our drink orders, but it also seemed like that there was more people standing around, bussing tables than waiters. Now the food, as long as we waited you think that the food would be hot hot but it wasn't it was luke warm, my turkey wings were dry, collard greens were more like candied greens (not sure who eats sweet greens) but you can see the brown sugar sitting on top of the greens. I chose the Mac and cheese seafood (very disappointing) dry, there were only 2 shrimps and 1 piece of lobster meat literally and remind you it's an extra charge. I went to the takeout location to try out some of the other items I have not tried before and I absolutely LOVE the sweet potato cake. When CSR rang me up for one turkey wing and 2 slices of cake it was $39. 20. Now...don't get me wrong, I love to eat and I don't mind paying for some good food but I expect to pay what's on the menu. When I noticed the price and the cake was ringing up eight dollars for each slice I made the CSR aware and she said oh yeah the prices went up and it's because of the old system we had we are using the new one now and I was like well that is not what's on the menu because I sat in my car before I came inside to determine what I wanted and she proceeded to call someone who didn't answer the phone. She didn't try to adjust it or rectify the situation at all. I understand they have a new location and all, but if the prices went up, you should make your customers aware and switch the prices online and on your menu. To make matters worse I pointed it out on the menu online and inside the restaurant it clearly had $5.50. I love supporting black owned businesses but I like for them to be fair and if something is wrong, own your mistakes and honor the prices.
