Solid wing spot overall. I went with the chicken strips and tried both the Roost Lee and Hot Honey BBQ sauces. Both were really good, but Roost Lee was the standout for me, super flavorful with a nice kick. The waffle fries were crispy and well-seasoned, definitely a highlight. Cole slaw was also solid, fresh and creamy, just a little on the sweet side for my taste. Overall, really enjoyable meal. Cool outdoor area with fire pits, corn hole and TVs playing local sports. Painted Rooster has big portions and really great service. The vibe was fun and welcoming and you definitely leave full. I ordered the Caesar wrap and it honestly just missed the mark for me. The lettuce tasted a bit old and it lacked flavor. At one point I actually checked to see if there was any dressing on it. That said the pickles were amazing, easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. My boyfriend got the tenders and those were a hit. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly, which made me want to come back and try something different next time. Overall I would definitely give this place another shot and order a different dish. We are loving this addition to the neighborhood. The food is good quality and the service is friendly. It is a great place to come with friends or even bring the kids. They are very accommodating to families. We really enjoy the salads and the chicken is made fresh to order and very delicious. The service is also much much faster than its predecessor Zada Jane's. We loved that place. It was an institution, but it is nice to actually get your food quickly rather than having to wait nearly an hour for a simple meal. The Anchor Bar Buffalo sandwich with grilled chicken was very good. Try it with the mac! The BYO salad was okay, for some reason the amount of romaine was overwhelming, and it wasn't well balanced since it was huge. The ratios just need a bit of work. I am very excited for this new spot in the neighborhood! We went this past weekend, around 1pm. They told us it would be about a 30 min wait, which we were fine with. We grabbed a beer at the bar and sat outside while we waited. They did let us know the kitchen was backed up as well so it might be longer than they originally expected, but again, we understand with them just opening and still getting the kinks worked out. The server was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of. One recommendation I have is, I do wish they had draft beers, or offered mimosas or wine by the glass. The only option was to buy a bottle. The overall vibe is perfect for Plaza Midwood, and when its not so hot out, the patio will be a hit. We started off with the buffalo chicken dip which was a 10/10. HIGHLY recommend! My bf went with the charred wings, and I got a BYO Salad with tenders tossed in Honey BBQ. The tenders were pretty big and the flavor was good. You definitely get your money's worth. My bf also liked the wings. He got a side of the "too hot to have on menu" sauce, and it was definitely HOT but tasty! I definitely want to go back and try some of the other menu items. We had an awesome dinner at Painted Rooster tonight!!! The vibe, the food and the staff were all excellent - we already can't wait to come back! I was impressed by the number of options on their menu (and the owner, Zack, told us they've got more items coming soon!) - it's definitely chicken-forward with wings, tenders, nuggets and sandwiches as the highlights, but they've got an extensive build-your-own salad section and several different types of mac-n-cheese too (so it's not just chicken & beer, people!). Cool to see that they offer meatless chicken for vegetarians too. I also liked their drink variety (fun that you can mix and match different beers in a bucket!). And I love what they've done with the former Zada Jane's space - funky decor plus plenty of TVs and both indoor & outdoor seating. We decided to try the chargrilled wings (we did half sauced with honey lime sriracha and half salt, pepper & garlic dry rubbed), the tenders (with hot honey for dipping) and the seasoned waffle fries - everything was truly excellent! That was some of the juiciest chicken I've ever tasted (especially the tenders), the fries are amazing (sometimes waffle fries can be dry/hard but theirs were clearly house made) and the sauces and rub were so perfectly flavored and seasoned. Seriously can't think of a bad thing to say about anything we ate! Given that it was their opening week, we understood there being a bit of a wait (and we were able to grab drinks at the bar while we waited) - but as soon as we were seated our waitress, Bridget, was quick with putting our orders in and our food came out quickly, and Chrissy was so kind to check on us multiple times. This new neighborhood joint in Plaza Midwood has taken the space previously occupied by Zada Janes which was a local favorite. They had big shoes to fill! They market themselves as a wing join sports bar, and being a big fan of wings I knew I had to make a visit at some point. I came in with some buddies on a Saturday evening to watch the UNC vs Duke game and have some food. The hostess was very friendly and after a brief wait sat us at a booth. They do not have draft beer but they have a good variety of bottles and cans including some cheap domestics. That combined with the amount of TVs makes it a solid place to catch a game. I ordered six of the cheer wine barbecue wings. I was tempted to ask from them chargrilled but I didn't want the smoky char grill to overpower the flavors of the barbecue sauce. Looking back I wish I had them chargrilled, the flavor of the sauce was a little weak. The ranch they served them with though was delicious! Overall the wings were ok. I want to go back and try their Mac and cheese with their dynamite chicken. It sounds delicious and I think I would enjoy that more. Only other complaint I have is the bathroom situation. Since it's a smaller place they only have single stall bathrooms men and women. When it was a brunch place that probably worked better but when the place is full of people drinking beer watching sports and a lot of people have to go, it leads to some long lines! A great addition to plaza! I didn't expect it to be such a sports spot, but that's certainly the vibe! Love that they have live music on Wednesdays too. We came on a Monday with a large party (14), and they were definitely understaffed for our group, but it was still great. The Buffalo chicken wontons were amazing (I hate bleu cheese and they were still great). I didn't try the other apps, but everyone seemed to enjoy the Buffalo chicken dip and fried pickles. For my entree, I did a DIY small salad with chicken, and it was perfect! I love that they have so many options and you can build your own. Came here for the first time with my family and fairly enjoyed the meal. I ordered the 3 tenders and fries with a side of Roost Lee sauce. The food was good and the sauce was even more amazing with a hint of spice and sweetness. I'm only giving it 4 stars as it was disappointing to receive our food almost 30 minutes (maybe more) and I was a little annoyed the server took my fries away without me finishing them as it seemed like they were trying to have us leave a bit faster. I showed up at golden hour and apparently so did half of Charlotte. Painted Rooster might be the new kid on the block, but it's already the cool one everyone's trying to sit with at lunch. Good luck finding parking nearby. You might have better odds befriending a goose and flying in. The outside hits you right away: bright blue building, firetruck red trim, and a life-size rainbow rooster guarding the front like a poultry bouncer. The patio has TVs and rows of white metal chairs filled with people who know good chicken when they see it. No fans out there, so fair warning... if it's a hot day, dress like you're prepping for a rotisserie. There's also shuffleboard and cornhole out front. Peak Plaza Midwood energy. I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted by staff who were not only friendly but actually seemed happy to be there. Wild concept, I know. Between the retro signage, copper bar, chandeliers, and cartoon roosters on the wall, the space manages to be both funky and familiar. This What I ordered: Buffalo Chicken Wontons These are crispy little flavor bombs. Imagine if a crab rangoon had a buffalo chicken phase and dipped itself in creamy buttermilk ranch. Served piping hot, with just enough crunch to let your table neighbor know you started eating without them. The ranch was the kind of good that makes you want to dip your fries, your tenders, your hopes and dreams in it. Cheerwine BBQ Chicken Tenders These came with a side of blue cheese dressing and some carrot-celery backup dancers. The tenders were golden and crispy, but I needed more sauce. That's probably a me problem because I treat sauces like a condiment buffet. The Cheerwine BBQ is sweet, tangy, and leans more cola glaze than smoky barbecue, which I didn't hate. The blue cheese was legit... thick, creamy, and loaded with crumbles. Mac & Cheese (To Go) Looks like creamy, cheesy elbow macaroni heaven sprinkled with parsley. I haven't eaten it yet but it smelled so good I almost cracked the lid open in traffic. For a place in its first week, they're already running like a veteran kitchen. I truly wish I could give this place 0 stars. The service tonight was completely unacceptable. We waited over 20 minutes just to get our drinks. When our server finally came back, we ordered fried pickles for the table along with our meals. After waiting 45 minutes with no sign of the pickles, I had to cancel them. Our entrees, which were ordered at the same time, took over an hour to arrive. When the food finally came out, the wings were cold. To make matters worse, one person at our table never received their entrée at all -- and even 40 minutes after everyone else had their food, it still hadn't arrived. The manager came over to apologize and brought out the "wings of the month" as a gesture, but unfortunately those were ice cold as well. Between the extreme wait times, missing food, and cold dishes, this was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. Of course, with any new restaurant opening, there are always some growing pains, but overall it was a good experience, and I'd definitely return. The store sits in the heart of Plaza Midwood, so expect the usual traffic around the area. They have a small lot behind the building for guests, but there is also street parking and other nearby lot options as well. If I had to describe PR, I'd say it's a casual, retro-themed chicken and beer spot. Service is good, the staff is friendly, food and drinks come out pretty quickly, and there's a nice simplicity throughout the menu offerings. After browsing the menu, we started with the Buffalo chicken dip and a couple of brews. The dip was fine, a bit on the milder side for me--but it's a good appetizer for sharing and should be safe enough not to set any mouths on fire. For entrees, I tried the Buffalo chicken sandwich and their chicken club equivalent. They definitely brine the chicken, resulting in a beautiful crunch, but (remember, they've been open for under a week) our chicken was a little overcooked and on the drier side. The sandwiches were topped with all the fixings and some flavorful sauces, but I wished the chicken itself had been a bit more seasoned. I think with more reps, the staff will nail that perfect consistency. The waffle fries were well-seasoned and made a good complement to the sandwiches. Overall--a good experience with a straightforward concept, with chicken and beer as the foundations of the restaurant. But most importantly, the service is impeccable. I love to sit at the bar for college or NFL game days (they have a ton of TVs and all the channels), and I've been consistently impressed by their bartender, Grant's, attentiveness, professionalism, and speed.
