Amazing home cooked southern food. Such a welcoming space. Been eating here for years!

Went here finally for the first time after having lived in the city 6 years. Don't know how I made it this long, but I had never had chicken and dumplings! We came for dinner on a Friday and ordered the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, chicken and dumplings, and country fried steak. It wasn't too busy inside but the outside patio looked great! Service was great and our server was very attentive. We loved everything we got to eat and I can't wait to come back for their chicken and dumplings!!

They discontinued their pies and now offer just three dessert items: a brownie, seasonal cobbler and banana pudding. Very affordable southern fare with great back patio.

I'm rarely left speechless all this food for 25 bucks and Marissa and Cody are the best. If yall want a good late night spot on weekends the kitchen is open till 1:30am. I cannot recommend this enough!

My friend was playing a show in Charlotte last Friday night at Petra's Bar. After her set, I went to find some dinner. I looked on Yelp. I found this place called Dish. It looked like southern goodness. I decided to try it out. I walked down the street and found Dish pretty easily. I went inside. It looked empty. I saw a sign that said "See Bartender for Table." There was no one in there. I looked and saw a sign up by the ceiling that said "Bar," so I headed that way. There's a back room with a second bar and tables. The bartender told me to pick a table. I found a booth in the back corner. Perfect for me as I was eating alone and wanted to people watch. I ordered the sweet and sour meatloaf. It was so good. It was sweet but with a kick. I'm very sensitive to spicy food, however I could eat this. It was too good to pass up on. It came with a nice big moist biscuit, a deviled egg, and a side of carrots. So good. I'm so glad I found this place. I don't know if I'll be back because I live in Charleston. I would recommend this place to any southern food lover! Did not disappoint!

What a slept on spot in Plaza Midwood. A menu full of southern staples: fried chicken, meatloaf, chicken &dumplings, country fried steak etc. This un-assuming spot has all you need for a great meal with friends and family, or some late night eats(they offer an all-day breakfast menu and are open until 1:30am!). Affordable prices across the board with a nice selection of beers or mixed drinks. Try the candied bacon and make sure to funk it up!

We hadn't been to Dish since they were reopened under new management and decided to pop by last night for dinner. It was even better than I remembered! Truly the best place in the area to get some classic comfort food dishes. I ordered the pot roast (a little on the salty side but that was perfect with the less salty mashed potatoes), and it came with a biscuit, deviled egg AND a side (I tried the seasonal salad, which was an incredibly fresh little cherry tomato, basil & balsamic masterpiece). So good. My husband got a Higher Ground IPA to drink and had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, which he enjoyed as well. I love that they serve breakfast all day as well - definitely need to keep that in mind! And next time I'm definitely saving room for dessert - everything in the case looked so, so tasty. The staff are really friendly and welcoming too, and the space just feels like you're stepping back in time into a homey country restaurant (with a fun late-night bar in the back!). We are already pumped to come back and try some more of the delicious-sounding menu items (like the chicken & dumplings, Cajun seasoned meatloaf and pecan-crusted pork tenderloin!). Keep up the awesome cookin', Dish!

The server was friendly.

Now I'll admit -- I'm a tough judge of cornbread. A lot of people will serve it to you as dry as the desert. Crumbly. Without any love. At the southern pecan, I could've had a whole sheet of their cornbread -- it was pleasantly delicious. Also of note: Our server was prompt and kind. The vibe inside was really cool too. We started with the hush puppies and raw oysters. The mignonette was really interesting, chunky with apples (I think?). It wasn't really my thing personally, but definitely unique. The hush puppies came out HOT and crispy with a honey sauce. You can also get them dusted with cinnamon and sugar, which I thought was a fun option. For lunch, I went with the pecan crusted catfish with oven baked mac and cheese and collard greens. The catfish was SO crispy but still delicate inside, and that pecan topping was delicious. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy with a bubbly, crunchy top. The collard greens were perfectly seasoned. Sometimes collards can be way too vinegar heavy, but these had a really nice balance. Everything came out HOT, which I always appreciate. Really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere here!

There were several "reserved" tables that remained empty until after we had finished eating, so I think the restaurant could benefit from a better reservation system with more accurate buffer times to accommodate walk-in guests. To avoid the wait, we decided to sit at the bar, and I'm glad we did because the food was amazing. The fried chicken and waffles were perfectly seasoned, and the waffle had a unique texture and flavor that reminded me of a combination of a traditional waffle and a soft pretzel. The cheesy potato cake was absolutely delicious. The fruit bowl was also good, but I wish they had been a little more generous with the blueberry pudding. The shrimp and grits came with large tomatoes, which may not be for everyone, and my friend felt the dish was lacking grits overall. She didn't feel like she got her money's worth. Would I go back? Absolutely. My meal was delicious, and I can't wait to return and try more of their homemade, fresh dishes. I also think it's great that they partner with local farmers to help curate their menu.

We came for brunch and they almost had to roll us out of there. They passed around oysters, shrimp cocktail and grilled pineapple with honey. Three different food stations: meat, vegetable and shrimp skewers was one; your choice of southern ham (prosciutto basically) or crab cake eggs benedicts was the second one and the third one I don't remember (mostly because I didn't quite make it there). In the middle they had lobster deviled eggs, assorted tea sandwiches and a small section with desserts. Everything was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. They barely brought around food like the French toast bites. They kept bringing around oysters and literally no table wanted them that I saw. It wasn't that busy either, tons of empty tables. Instead they held off the arguably best dish of the house: French toast bites. We FINALLY got them at the end of our meal before we left but had to stalk the waiter for them. For $78 there should be way more rotations of the better dishes. Our waiter was great and atmosphere is gorgeous. Playing, food quality and everything was average. The highlight was the poached eggs, eggs Benedict, bacon, potatoes, skewers and everything else was okay. Not better than like Golden Corral or a standard buffet. My opinion is skip the brunch for that price, unless you really like oysters LOL. Also if I had little kids, would never waste money on brunch here.
