I typically visit for brunch, and highly recommend the Shakshuka - it's my to-go almost every time I visit. That said, the Frijoles de la Olla, Boxty Browns, and of course the Chicken & The Egg are delicious. There was a recent renovation and they have now expanded the patio, only enhancing the experience. Pre-renovation, they were hosting monthly wine tastings which I attended monthly! While these have not been brought back yet, my fingers are tightly crossed these go back on the calendar soon! A once- hidden gem of the NODA community! Local loaf has an extensive brunch menu and options for dietary restrictions. I got a breakfast burrito that is surprisingly filling for being just one smaller burrito. Service was fantastic! For a busy morning with a line out the door, they were prompt with filling waters and making sure our tables/chairs were cleaned. My order accidentally had chorizo in it and they immediately took it back, apologized and made a fresh vegetarian one. It's always great to see the nice gentleman at the front who takes orders, he's so friendly! The ambiance is the only thing that could take this spot to the next level! Currently on bad weather days the inside seating is limited and feels cramped with large parties. For the most part, sitting outside is the way to go on the picnic tables! Local Loaf is such a charming Noda neighborhood spot! The patio is one of the best parts, it's a great place to relax and enjoy a meal, especially on a nice day. It's also pretty shaded so even in the Summer its enjoyable. The owner is always incredibly sweet and welcoming. They have so many great food options, but the orange chicken was definitely the standout and one of our favorite dishes. They were out of a few dishes which would've been nice to try, so we'll have to come back! The service could also be a little quicker, but overall, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. $7 wine special on Wednesdays is also a mid-week favorite! Sad to lose a neighborhood go to spot due to the management. After waiting 50 minutes after ordering (promised turn 30 min), when we inquired on timing we were met with excuse of our order had been delayed because they got in a flux of to go (which must be priority over dining in?) but they couldn't give us a status on our orders. When requested a manager to assist, to see if we could have either an update on when the food would be ready or if we could have a refund as we needed to leave, the male manager rudely spoke over me to mansplain and "talk me down" in his words. Sadly - we just wanted clear communication and understanding of if the food would arrive in time for our party to eat. I would say this place is solid, but if you have any friends that don't eat eggs, or are vegan the only option would be a porridge or avocado toast, both of which were $8-10. Thrilled that Local Loaf has dinner hours on select nights. The orange chicken is our go-to. There are three heat levels available, and it is served over rice. I love the actual orange peels included in the dish. It is saucy, perfect, and keeps us coming back week after week. We regularly brag to friends that it pairs perfectly with half-off wine bottles on Friday! We decided to live a little one day when we arrived in time for half-off apps. The crab hushpuppies were a treat and made us feel like we were dining coastal. The Brussels sprouts were a masterpiece! I try to order these everywhere and no one prepares them like this! If I were not regularly drinking the discounted wine then I would want a glass of this sauce to drink. Truly a special neighborhood establishment here. Loved trying out Local Loaf for a weekend breakfast while my husband and I were in Charlotte! The restaurant is located in a converted house in the NoDa neighborhood. It is counter-serve and the man who took our order was very friendly and welcoming. What we had was just good breakfast food - not too pretentious, but hearty and filling in a simple space. We found easy street parking on a Sunday morning around 9am, but it was filling up more as we left. I would definitely make Local Loaf a regular stop if I lived in the neighborhood. read more

Everyone else had an attitude. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and it was disgusting. It said it came with labneh but wasn't on the plate when we received it. The steak looked like it got run over by the marathoners. It was chewy, still mooing and flavorless. I told our waitress it tasted old. The chef ended up coming out and said "I can get you something else. Not everything on our menu is old. I just got that beef yesterday and cut it." Wasn't a fan of his demeanor and attitude. He seemed annoyed and pissed off. Not my fault you buy cheap beef and expect us to pay $22 for it. Wouldn't come back here as our other dishes were pretty flavorless. read more

Although there was a decent amount of chicken and it was cooked really nicely, it was unfortunately over seasoned. There was hardly any lettuce; not sure I could really call this a salad. The hot Italian sandwich had a really good flavor, but it was seriously salty. And yes, I know all of the meats in that sandwich are salty meats, but this was the saltiest sandwich I had ever had. I did call immediately after I got to my destination, which was less than 3 miles away. I sent photos and requested a refund and they did agreed to refund me however, at this point I have still not received a refund. I've had this place on my list of places to try for a good while now, but the hours/location just never worked out. Well it finally worked out for a Sunday brunch and it was a cute place to grab brunch before an event in NoDa. The day we went was rainy which kinda sucked because I think part of their big draw is the large outdoor patio. You order at the counter, then if they have an open table you can grab one. Your name is called from the area by the kitchen and make sure you're listening because you might miss your name! My only complaint about this was that everyone's dishes came out at completely different times. I got the pancakes, eggs and bacon. Bacon was crispy, the eggs buttery, and the pancakes were like muffins they were so thick. I would definitely visit again and hope to sit outside. read more

The thing that stands out to me the most about this charming neighborhood restaurant is the location. It is tucked away on 35th street right amongst the beautiful houses of NoDa. If you don't look twice you might think it is another home! I have long passed this place while going on walks around the neighborhood and have been waiting for the right time to try it as unfortunately they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Finally decided to stop by while working remote. Their breakfast looks fantastic but it was lunch time so I went with the chicken sandwich. I met up with an childhood friend here on recommendation. There was baked goods on display tempting me while I was waiting in line, but I managed my sweet tooth exceptionally today. I ordered the Shakshuka and an avocado tartine. Then chose a table to sit at until they called out my name. The avocado tartine took about 20 minutes to come out, but the shakshuka took 40 minutes.. way too long! The tartine isn't worth talking about, although the ingredients were fresh. The Shakshuka was good, but the amount given for $14 was pretty small; also one small piece of bread is definitely not enough to lap up the Shakshuka. When we got ready to order I got a garden spritz , Prosecco with orange peel bitters. Which was a nice light take on a mimosa. Loved that alternative. They have some great wines and they serve breakfast , lunch and dinner during the week and Saturdays . With a huge menu to choose from. I got the shakshuka , delicious eggs covered in a rich tomato sauce with micro greens and feta, with whole-wheat toast. This was one of the best sauces I've had on a shakshuka not too saucy , but a nice rice thick sauce . Great flavor . The eggs were cooked perfectly too, something about the toast too was nice and crunchy. This is my recommendation! For sure. My friend got the bacon, egg and cheese on a English muffin. He said this was better than McDonald's!! Yes it was a huge improvement! Lots of egg and bacon! I had to get one of their humongous cookies too , these all look spectacular and are only $2!!! I got the oatmeal raisin and yes this is the ticket! Nice soft and chewy and a hint of cinnamon m, this was the perfect end to our brunch. I kid you not when I say they are humongous. You can also buy the cookie dough in tubs of 6 for take home treats. Their muffins looked killer too but I could t eat another bite. So next time I'm on the muffin trail. It was definitely worth the wait. Plus another place to add to my Charlotte brunch rotation . The servers were great too. I'm giving this a "round up" 4- I'd say it's closer to 3.5-3.75. I came here with my friends on Friday around 7pm; it's one of their go-to spots. Very cute all around, bright, open inviting. They have beer, wine, pastries, and a good food menu. We opted to split a pineapple orange juice mimosa carafe ($25 weekday special). I ordered the beef empanadas and my friends had an order of that as well along with the calamari. Took a bit longer than expected for our carafe to come out, but the food followed shortly after. I'm not picky about the bubbly brands/flavors, but my one pet peeve is when mimosa/champagne isn't chilled, and that was the case with our carafe. I hadn't had pineapple OJ before, so I enjoyed that blend, but I really wish that it had the crisp/chill to it. The empanadas were very tasty, but seemed slightly underfilled (very airy, maybe 50% filled with meat). I enjoyed the dipping sauce though. This is a solid spot that I would return to to try some other stuff on the menu, but I do think there are areas for improvement! read more

Wow. Woke up and was craving some breakfast. I tend to just google places near me to eat and explore the community. I came across local loaf, and I am so excited to try more of this menu. Hidden in a little neighborhood is some of the best food and queer friendly spaces I've been in Charlotte. They offer an eclectic menu with your staple traditional favorites. Even if the food had been subpar (it was not) the service makes up for it. I absolutely fell in love with the fabulous gentleman taking our order and every server was so accommodating. I had the pancake breakfast and my partner had the shakshuka. You order at the front and take a seat, the place has such a welcoming vibe, they offer - fresh baked bagels, muffins and cookies. YUM!
