Have been wanting to try La Lima for the longest time but didn't feel like dealing with South End traffic, parking, crowds, etc. The Tuscan sandwich was so delicious and adding the extra yellow sauce (they provided a little cup of the sauce on the side) on top of each bite was a game changer. Some pieces of steak were cut too big and the whole thing would come out with a bite, but it was tender enough to bite through. I think my sandwich only had one tomato so that was disappointing. Let me start off by saying that this place is so unassuming. Like how delightful can sandwiches really be? Extremely. My husband and I have been to this restaurant about five times now. We always order the same two sandwiches and we share a half each, so we get the best of both worlds. The steak is perfectly cooked to a delicious and tender medium, the chunks of meet are so tender and delicious and the sauce just sends it over the edge! I love the chicken sandwich as well the slaw really brightens up the chicken and the sauce also sets it off! We also got a house made juice it was green and the name is escaping me-- either way don't forget yours! The dragonfruit one is also delicious and very refreshing! Social media strikes again, and wins! I stumbled across La Lima on Instagram and it was on a Top 10 Sandwiches in the USA list. Of course, we had to give it a try! It did not disappoint! The restaurant is beautiful, it feels like a tropical location. It's definitely small compared to the traffic that comes in, but they do a great job of getting through the line and getting food out quickly. I had the Sakura as it came highly recommended, and my boyfriend had the Chicharron. Both were extremely tasty and unique! I've never had a sandwich quite like this. The bread is what really sends these sandwiches over the edge. My sandwich had fresh tuna and delicious sauces/toppings. Pro tip: the salsa verde is a must! It's served down by the water and is the best I've ever had. I'd love to come back and try other options. I think the prices are comparable for the fresh ingredients and the area. I've had many yucca fries and these are the best. They're crispy and the sauce it comes with is perfection. I prefer the bowls over the sandwiches to minimize carbs. You can't go wrong with any of them. Key lime pie: I'm ordering this again. This Keylime pie beats any Keylime pie in the Key West. I like that the custard has some lime shavings for texture. I also appreciate that they use meringue instead of whipped cream. The dessert is perfectly tangy. Chocolate cake: it's a really good chocolate cake. It's such a simple dessert yet not everyone gets it right. I personally prefer the Keylime pie, but for the chocolate lovers, this might be the best chocolate cake. I ordered the Tusan sandwich with grilled steak, Yuca fries, and chicha. Ordering is a quick counter service and then you take a number and sit anywhere. Upon first glance of receiving the sandwich I thought this was small for a $16 dollar sandwich, but a sentiment that was also mirrored by the people I was with is that, despite first glance, this was a very filling sandwich. The bread isn't fluffy or thick like a traditional sub bread or like a focaccia or a ciabatta or even like regular sliced bread. It's a very thin crusted bread with a thin soft breaded interior. The steak is cut into decent chunks and they don't skimp out on the meat so that was really appreciated. And the yuca fries don't come with many but they are THICK cut. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The flavor was incredible and the sandwich bread allows for the perfect crusty bite and it's not too tall for a regular sized bite. You know how sometimes you order a sandwich and it's piled high with so many layered ingredients and thick bread and you have unhinge a second jaw to eat it and all of the toppings fall out? You don't have that experience here which is actually really nice. The sandwich isn't overloaded with a bunch of BS which really allows the steak to be the star of the show. The only thing I noticed was there were a few tougher pieces of meat that required more chewing but I wouldn't describe this meat as tough or unpleasant to eat by any means. Just pointing out that this is not the kind of steak that bites like butter. And the yuca fries were thick and crispy on the outside but then soft almost like mashed potato's on the inside and it was delicious. I've had yuca at several places before and these were on par with what I expected from a yuca fry. And the chicha, the purple corn drink, very sweet and spiced just as it should be. No issues Overall, I would happily return and recommend to others. The current price of the sandwich was around $16, I don't know if I'd want to spend more than that if the price increased but I felt it was money worth spent. I wanted to taste the fattiness from the skin (which I think was mostly removed) and the juiciness from the meat. I will say that the bread was great! The Beautiful Bruno has done it again. Bruno Machiavelli, the mastermind behind Yunta Nikkei (as well as Viva Chicken), has once again provided Charlotte with a gem. La Lima Sangucheria is a beautiful, upscale sandwich shop selling traditional Peruvian, Japanese-Peruvian, and original sandwiches in the South End. When we walked in, there were no people at the register, but it was packed--filled to the brim with dining patrons. We were glad to snag a place at the corner of the bar. As soon as we were seated, there were floods of people everywhere ordering and looking for seating. The gentleman at the counter was warm, friendly, smiling, very helpful and gave great suggestions. We ordered the chicharrón sandwich, the eggplant sandwich, fries, yucca, chicha morada, and maracuya. As we were sitting, we spotted the amazing Bruno himself. Sweeping up the floors, helping where he could, and assisting with making sure everything ran smoothly, and in street clothes no less. He even came over to check on us. (side note: this is one of the hallmarks of a great leader. Bold enough to lead yet humble enough to serve as needed. I've seen him do this at all of the establishments, btw. Needless to say, the sandwiches were fabulous, with large portions, fresh, high-quality ingredients, and cooked to perfection. I personally had the eggplant sandwich, yucca and chicha.
