It's nice to enjoy a sandwich so much at a place with rye in their name given I hate rye bread but thankfully there is a hoagie roll kind of option so, all good. I ordered the 54 which comes on a Hero Roll that is a crispy, sturdy bread. For those that do not like crispier breads like Ciabatta, you may want to consider something other than a Hero Roll. As a person who prefers less meat to what typically comes on a sub or sandwich, my only comment would be that it was hard to get a good bite of everything at once. There was a generous portion of Mayonnaise that I appreciated because I do not like a dry sandwich. The 54 hit the spot & I would order it again! After my lunch of dumplings from the dumpling lady and carrying a bag of dog treats from Pet Wants, I remembered that I needed to bring something for Mrs. K. When Schrieber's caught my eye, I was set. A few minutes later, I have a bag with a can of Dr. Browns and a freshly wrapped potato knish. It arrived home still warm and inside, a small pot of spicy mustard. It was very much appreciated and absolutely delicious. This is the first time that I have ever left a review, especially a bad review. Don't waste your time and money purchasing a corn beef sandwich here. I decided to give them a try today and I would have given them a zero rating if I could. The sandwich was probably 1/3 fat or more with the meat. I realize that corn beef will have some fat normally, but not as much fat as that. Lots of the pieces of meat had more then 1/2 inch of fat attached to it. I'm from the northeast, and so it's hard to resist anything pastrami or corned beef, as the struggle is real, LOL! I had long wanted to take my wife to Optimist Hall, and we finally had the chance to visit. We stopped at Schreiber's and decided to give it a try. I wanted to try both the corned beef and pastrami, and the server told me they could do 1/2 and 1/2, which I appreciated. My wife got a Reuben. The prices are higher than I expected, and honestly, although both halves of the "large" (it's actually just a sandwich sliced in half) tasted good, I couldn't figure out which was the pastrami and which was the corned beef. And yes, as mentioned in previous reviews, there is a lot of fat in the sandwich. I took a bite of my wife's Reuben, and the best part was the cheese, though I wasn't sure what it was either. This was tourist-priced, and we tried it, and it was okay. We'll be looking for other options the next time we visit Optimist Hall, as it is a great place to visit with lots of seting, even as busy as it was on the day we visited. read more

Another hit for Optimist Hall! Schreiber's on Rye describes itself as an authentic Jewish Deli cut from the same cloth as the ones you would find in New York. Now I am not a native New Yorker, so I will have to defer to someone with more knowledge on whether or not they are truly authentic. What I can say is that I had a delicious sandwich here as well as some warm and hearty matzo ball soup which really hit the spot. If you are like me and enjoy a seeded bun then I highly recommend the Bourdain. It's stacked with mortadella and provolone cheese. It also has a tasty Dijon mustard spread. Their menu is mostly centered around sandwiches but they also have hot dogs and some classic deli sides. OMG! Tried this place yesterday and it was so good. I got a traditional Reuben and it was perfectly grilled. The corned beef was tender and it was the perfect amount of sloppy. I opted for a side of potato latkes. They were good size and made from shredded potatoes which made it nice and crunchy on the edges. It comes with a small container of sour cream which was the perfect complement. They also had Dr Browns diet black cherry soda. I'm not a big soda fan but this is my favorite so it was a pleasant surprise. Optimist Hall was not super crowded when we got there so we had no problems finding a spot to eat. Disappointed is an understatement. I moved to Charlotte a couple of years ago and it's been missing a lot of different cuisines. I couldn't be more excited for Schreiber's on Rye... that's why I created their business on Yelp. The quality was NOT worth the price. I paid $25 for some pickles, small sandwich, and a sparking water. The sandwich wasn't that good and they put a ton of slaw on the sandwich so you couldn't taste the meat. The pickles were questionable at best. The food came quick, so I got this experience over quickly . Whew. Optimist hall is a blast and I enjoy a lot of other restaurants. The best reuben I've had in YEARS. The knish is hot and exactly what you would find in NYC as perfect street food. Will be returning to try the latkes. This is the only place in Charlotte to buy traditional NY deli food. Service was impeccable (well, as impeccable as Optimist Hall goes, which normally has some of the worst service in town.) Absolutely delicious pastrami sandwich!!! Coming from Chicago where "AP Deli" has top notch corn beef and pastrami sandwiches, to put it mildly their sandwiches are TOP NOTCH. I've had the sandwich on 3 different occasions since they've opened. The 1st & 3rd try were the best -- huge difference was getting the meat chopped/shredded a special request) instead of sliced - which is how it normally comes. My 2nd experience was with it sliced and that was the time the sandwich felt chewy as some others have commented! If you are a pastrami fan, I highly recommend trying this place with the meat chopped/shredder! You won't regret it and will be ready for another one. Came here for dinner on a busy Saturday evening. Schreiber's is the newest kid on the block at Optimist Hall, where there are tons of delicious options, so the bar is pretty high for offerings here. We had the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches--just half portions of each. Both were delicious: soft and flavorful bread, tender meat, just the right amount of mustard. The pickles were good, also.
