We absolutely love coming here! The food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is beautiful. We had Roman as our server twice during our stay, and he was incredible--super friendly, funny, attentive, and made every meal so enjoyable. The lodge itself is wonderful, and all of the girls were so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Everyone here truly makes you feel like family from the moment you arrive. Of course, the owners, Derrick and Janine, are some of the kindest, most genuine people you'll meet. Their warmth and hospitality shine through in every part of the experience. Lovely little spot in Hope. It has a covered outdoor space with heated fire pits. The menu has a variety of options, with fish, burgers, and salad. I had the crab cakes and they were amazing and packed with crab meat. The side salad was fresh and delicious. I appreciated the beer options, including non-alcoholic beers. We didn't know where to go for dinner tonight, but had been scouting camping locations. Hope came up in the discussion, and i said "Only if they have good eats" Well Dirty Skillet has 5 stars and it doesn't come better than that. We decided not to camp after all, but i still had my heart set on Dirty Skillet, so we drove down from Anchorage for dinner. Yes, i know it's 2 hours. It's still not as long as driving to Glenallen for 3 hours, to have Tok Thai for dinner, but I've done that too. And i have to admit, i am absolutely charmed by the Dirty Skillet. The sign at the roadside doesn't give much away, but you drive down into the parking lot of a widely spread out Lodge, and cabins, with the Dirty Skillet located across from the little pond. It's a beautiful location. The views when you sit outside are excellent, you can see the newly built log cabin store where espresso, gifts and ice cream can be bought, and the restrooms are also there. The outside seating is a good choice, as the large tables have tabletop firepits, which is very cosy. The tables can seat 8, and so sometimes, when there's a smaller party (like us 2) you may be sharing your table with someone else. Imagine having to converse with strangers? Well i am very much a fan of that. There were 2 Danish ladies on the table to the left of us, and we chatted with them, and later, a couple from Phoenix joined our table, we had some laughs with them, what a delight they were! I love when tourists come up here, and we can recommend places for them to go. There are also smaller tables without the firepits, and patio heaters for cooler weather. This is such a lovely place, very rustic and casual. Anyway, our server was prompt, and attentive, he brought water in a fancy carafe, and metal glasses, and took our orders. I got the Crab Cakes appetizer with rosemary fries, Blake got the Basic B Burger, with rosemary fries. We notices a corgi wandering around the tables, giving everyone the sad eyes. Please note, she doesn't like fries. The food came out pretty quickly, considering how busy the place was. My Crab Cakes were delicious, well packed with a lot of sweet crab and accompanied by a startlingly coloured gray sauce, which tasted divine. Blake was happy with his burger too. I was delighted with this place, and would have no hesitation coming back, even if it's a 2 hour drive, and the carb coma tends to hit you on the drive home. Everything was amazing. I'm so glad I made it a priority to visit Hope, especially to experience Dirty Skillet. One waitress took care of everybody. She was very welcoming, kind, and efficient. She checked on us just enough always keeping our drinks coming. I loved Dirty Skillets fire tables coupled with their string lights. Fucking vibes. I made sure to strategically come when live music started at 6pm. We had a front row seat. The Brewhouse Raspberry's were hittin' and everything we ordered was fire. We started with Dirty Skillets famous rice balls. They are not to be missed! After that came the Skillet Caesar salad with the literal best crab cakes. Yum! We looked up and seen 2 members of Anchorage's most popular news-station walk-in for dinner also. They were trying to be incognito but I am just too observant. I wasn't surprised to see them together bc I always point out to my husband how much they flirt on air. ANYWAY --- Our son wasn't feeling the best, and luckily we were staying in a cabin onsite. We ordered a few of the kids menu chicken strip meals to-go, and got them to him, before our dinner order was even up. We love convenience. For dinner entrees we ordered their yellow curry, kettle bottom steak, and Mac and cheese. Perfect perfect perfect. That's the review. Later on, after a visit to The Hope Hangout, we circled back for more beer and dessert! Same waitress, same amazing customer service, same live band. Smores pie? Perfect. Turnagain Mud homemade icecream? Wow. Mexican Chocolate homemade icecream? I can't. I was so happy to find this place. It's not often you drive 32 miles out of your way just to grab dinner. I had wanted to check out Hope, AK and it happen to coincide with my hunger pains so it worked out great. With limited options in a small town, it's rare to find a place that ticks all the boxes: cool/kind staff, reasonable prices, good food and rad vibe. This hit them all. The burger was off the charts flavorful and the side of rosemary fries were a perfect combination of potato and rosemary. Loved the local beer selections too. Starting with dessert because that was the best part... the Peanut Butter & Chocolate Pie and Turnagain Mud Ice Cream were phenomenal. The peanut butter pie was savory and had the consistency of Cool Whip so it was not too heavy and the chocolate crust and topping provided perfect sweetness. The Turnagain Mud Ice Cream was incredible. I still have no clue what the flavor notes were (maybe vanilla and a subtle cinnamon or caradmon?!?!) but it was just so, so good! I was tempted to order another scoop. The curried hummus was very smooth and creamy and full of flavor; it was thankfully not spicy. The salmon curry veggie and rice bowl was great as well and loaded with bamboo shoots (my husband loved them; I am less of a fan). Again, the curry is not spicy but provides a great punch of flavor. The lentil veggie soup was good, if a little thin and could have used more spices. The restaurant itself is super cute and feels like a real everyone is family dining experience with multiple parties seated at the same large outdoor tables. The service was friendly and efficient. WHAT A GEM THIS PLACE IS! This is the kind of spot you hope to just stumble upon on vacation. We had a long drive back to Anchorage and just wanted a snack. We got the fried rice balls, the caesar salad (minor quibble that I thought it was over-dressed), the skinny, skinny rosemary fries, and a few local AK beers. Not only is this a must visit if you're in Hope, it's worth a short detour off Seward Hwy all by itself. The food is all tasty, creative, well-presented, and reasonably priced. The wait staff is all sweet and professional, and Elijah is a great host as bartender. Definitely a staple for a beautiful community and you feel that any night if the week during the summer, but be sure to catch the live music!! Adds to an already fun, woodsy, atmosphere anyone will enjoy. Impressively welcoming to locals, tourists, young and old, the hungry and thirsty. All around, an amazing place! The only thing that out does the atmosphere and wait staff, is the amazing food. Everything our large party ordered, was delicious and unique in its own way. To top off the experience, we were there on a Friday evening when there was live music - the talented duo performed many fan favorites and covers. We didn't stay at the Bear Creek Lodge (on the same property as the Dirty Skillet), but would love to go back and stay the evening in one of their adorable cabins. Additionally, we were pulling a drift boat and they were able to accommodate us for parking. Can't wait to return! read more

The night before we were to fly home from Alaska, my wife booked us a night in a cabin in Hope, AK. Reading the details in the drive in, I laughingly chided her for accidentally booking a "dry" cabin, knowing how she values her private bathroom. Right before we got to Hope, my wife pointed to the right and said "Woah that looks like quite a party!" so I flipped a U-turn and pulled into a dirt driveway with a ton of folks. A sign said "SUP Olympics" which we eventually realized was about standout paddle boards. We laughed as we watched 30 year old men compete against children in a weird but amazing series of paddle boards races and obstacle courses around a small pond. Suddenly, we realized that the bar next to the pond, the Dirty Skillet, was the same bar serving the cabins we were staying out. Awesome! The random place we booked turned out to be the same as the place we stopped at for some local flavor. We checked into our super cute "hobbit" cabin, which may have not had a restroom, but was warm, cozy, and fairy-take perfect. And the communal restrooms were immaculately clean and rarely occupied- not an issue at all, and the showers were hot and towels soft. We went for a hike in the area, watched pink salmon spawn in a local river, then headed downtown for a drink and some local bluegrass music. It was amazing! Then we headed back to the Dirty Skillet, where live music was also underway. A local guy was putting together the weirdest, most amazingly creative music we had heard in a long time. This guy's music would appeal to anyone, but was hilarious and genius. He sang one song disparaging the menu in a good-humored way. Which brings me back to the review. The food was unique, interesting, and fantastic! The owners were our servers and joined us at the bar when the crowd thinned late at night. We stuck around trying lots of their IPAs and talking Alaska, music, white water rafting, fishing; and local culture. These guys were such great people! When things started winding down, we headed to the communal campfire by the cabins and talked to a group of friends from Homer who were in town because they admire the pace of life in Hope. We were jealous of everyone. 200 people live in Hope, but there is so much to do and feels like a real city with the bars and restaurants and trails in the summer. I can't wait to go back, and spend my evenings at the Dirty Skillet, eating delicious food at good prices and huge portions, drinking craft beer, meeting interesting people and observing random goings on, in a beautiful setting. read more

Reindeer Sausage Balls and Cup of Lentil Soup, huge steak served with roasted potatoes and grilled broccoli. On the same property as an enclave of log cabins to rest which is adjacent to a sweet little salmon spawning creek (crik?). Let's face it, you not going to just happen to pass through Hope, AK. It's a planned trip. It's off the beaten path, it's a town of 200 people and the road literally dead ends when you reach Hope. But if you go, there is a gem tucked in this quaint, little town called The Dirty Skillet. It's a restaurant part of Bear Creek Lodge that is owned by the coolest couple. We visited from Memphis, TN for our 22nd anniversary. Down south when you taste something good you compliment the chef by saying, "you put your foot in that". Chef April puts her foot in everything she prepares. Each plate has been thoroughly thought out and crafted with excellence. We stayed at Bear Creak Lodge for 5 nights so we ordered almost everything off the menu. Everything is homemade and fresh and every so tasteful. Did I mention that the portions are huge? You must try the homemade ice cream flight and then thank me later. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up and hands down best place in Hope, AK. read more

Came here for the first time. There was no sign hanging up that said seat yourself or anything. I followed a bunch of people in and they all took seats. I was alone and had my service dog with me. I didn't want to sit on their deck because they had fire on the tables and I being alone didn't want to take up real estate at a big 10 person table. I found a smaller table just inside the door and sat down. A waiter came and took my order. All was good. He brought me a carafe of water. My dog was well behaved. She was sitting next to me and not barking or acting out in anyway. After 15 minutes of me sitting there another man came up to me and told me my dog wasn't allowed in there. I told him she is my service dog and pointed to her red vest. He said that I had to go out on the deck. I changed my order to a to go order. A man that I had met earlier in the day came over to me to ask me how the service was. At noon I had stopped next door for a hot chocolate drink. The employee took this man's order but didn't acknowledge me right away. The employee was about to leave the building when I told him I wanted a drink too. He looked annoyed but made me a drink. The guy and I shared a look of "Did that really happen " between us. It was poor service but I didn't think it would carry over to the restaurant. As I was talking to the man I met earlier a woman with light blue eyes came out with my food. She had a big attitude. When she heard the man and I talking she got irate with me. She stated LOUDLY that I was in a closed section, how I sat at a dirty table, and my service dog wasn't allowed in the restaurant. 1. The sign saying "wait to be seated" was not hung up. It was laying on the flat part of the hostess stand. I saw it as I walked out. There was a thumb tack in it but it wasn't where anyone walking in could see it. 2. The waiter who took my order didn't say that section was closed. He even brought me a carafe of water and a glass. He didn't feel a need to wipe down the table either if it was so dirty. 3. The table didn't look any dirtier than the rest of the place. Hell it's called the Dirty Skillet...Why would you leave a table dirty for so long too??? 4. ADA states my working service dog can go anywhere I go. They violated my civil rights by asking me to leave the restaurant with my registered service dog. She argued with me in front of customers that I was at fault and how dare I sit at a dirty table?! I put my dog in the car because she reacts to my emotions. I went back to ask her who she is. She said she owns the place. Again she was very accusatory and nasty to me. Customers we're looking at her as she yelled at me. I left nearly in tears. I am having an anxiety attack now and will never set foot on that property again. What a Vile spiteful woman. Now for the food. The crab cakes were tiny. You get 2 for $14. Definitely not worth it. It came on a bed of greens with a blue/purple sauce of unknown origins and absolutely no taste . The French fries were bland and undercooked. The hamburger had more lettuce on it than meat. The burger was rare as hell. I definitely don't like well done but this was ridiculously rare. I ended up feeding it to my dog because it was gross. I talked to another person in town who said she has acted mean to them too. They ordered a meal for curbside pick up and she yelled at them for not coming in to pick it up. So I guess her horrible attitude shines through to both tourists and locals. Some people should not work with the public. She is one of them. read more

Stayed here in The cabins which are on the same ground as the restaurant. Just a great place to stay. The restaurant definitely delivers a really good mix of food which you can walk to you cabin and eat on your own balcony. Just return used items to the restaurant. I defiantly recommends this place. read more
