Yeah, it's gimmicky and silly, but every time I have been here, the food has been pretty solid. Admittedly, it's a guilty pleasure for my husband and I every time we're in the Outer Banks. I mean, it's hard to say "let's go have dinner at DIRTY DICK'S!!!" and not feel kind of ridiculous. Portions are enormous - so unless you're really hungry, be prepared to take home some leftovers. I ordered the popcorn shrimp basket for dinner tonight. Waaaaayyy more shrimp than I could ever eat in one sitting and an enormous helping of very tasty crinkle cut fries (crispy and lightly seasoned with an Old Bay style seasoning). The shrimp was well cooked and not overly greasy. Biggest surprise? The coffee. It's surprisingly good. I never expect much when it comes to joints like this, but even my coffee snob husband agreed that it was great coffee. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Dirty Dick's is worth checking out if you're in the mood for seafood in a relaxed, casual setting. You may not have a mind blowing culinary experience, but you'll probably leave feeling pretty satisfied. read more

We went to the restaurant August 27th, 2014. What a great experience for our whole family. It started with the manager, I asked him what grits were. Within 2 minutes, I had a sample of grits before me to try. I had the award winning shrimp and grits, it was great! My husband had the award winning alligator bisque, very good. The owner was a real trip, yes he was "Dirty Dick". They represent real southern hospitality. We will make the trip there every time we head south. I highly recommend this restaurant for the food and the southern hospitality. read more

My husband and I joked about the name....then we decided to try it!! Great super service abs the food was amazing!! He had the choose two, he got shrimp and clam strips, and he said it was the best he'd had! I had the spaghetti and meatballs with New Orleans red gravy......absolutely the best ever!!! We will definitely be back!! read more

We had eaten at the DD down on Hatteras for the first time over the summer. We were impressed with the quality of service then and the taste of the food. Recently we went to the DD at Nags Head. I like the vibe here as it is not a hustling bustling noisy place. The service was really good. The waitress knew the items on the menu and was able to answer all of our questions about how the food was prepared. The shrimp and grits are delicious if you like grits made with corn. The plate was definately not lacking shrimp!!!! The seafood platter which had a variety of fish items on it showed that the cook is able to cook a variety of foods at one time and have them all be hot when served. The veggies, although surely not why someone would come to a seafood restaurant , were cooked perfectly and so tasty. The carrots were by far the best I have had anywhere. Thank you for a pleasurable dining experience! We will be back! read more

The service was good, the food was overpriced. the kids tried the mac and cheese and sent it back. We then ordered the kids an ear of corn, and we were charged 4 $ each. Will not be going back. read more

The food was great!!! Our server David was awesome he just made the experience there even better! Hope to go back again the next time we are here on vacation read more

Order King Crab Cakes and that was not good by any means. It was room temperature and had a lot of filler. Tasted as if I was eating bread. My sister order shrimp and that was decent. She also ordered she crap soup and I tried it. It was good but not hot enough. I doubt if I will come back read more

Just a bit overly-tacky, over-crowded and over-priced for my liking, but the food was OK. Really only ate there to get the T-shirts anyway.

Wow. 8:45 on a Friday night spring break weekend. Walked in, was told they have stopped serving at 8:45 at night because they were too slow. Just guaranteed we'll never try to come again. Unbelievably bad management. This place is a disgrace. read more

Our party of 17 went here last week during our beach vacation. I was not overly impressed. While they got us in with little wait and our server was sweet, some food orders came out in a timely manner, some a little later and my poor nephew's hamburger didn't arrive until most of us were finished eating. Although our server was apologetic, I expected a visit from the manager with an offer to take that off the bill at least. No visit from management. Food was hit or miss. Pasta dish was bland but the grilled swordfish was a hit and my mom loved the fried oysters. read more

Went with a group of 14 people, half of which were kids. The service was fantastic! They had no problem with separate checks for each family, and handled it all without a glitch. Almost all the adults got the all you could eat crab legs which were incredible! Large and cooked perfectly! Came with 2 red potatoes and corn on the cob and a piece of sausage. When you order more you can order more crab legs or steamed or fried shrimp, fried scallops or fried fish. They would bring more before you even finished what you had. The steamed shrimp, fried scallops and fried fish was wonderful! Nobody left hungry or with 1 complaint. They bring baskets of hush puppies for the table and they were so good! We had bloody Mary's that were a meal in themselves with shrimp, okra, a crab leg and more in them! We will definitely be back! read more

Good service, nice people and good seafood and delicious hush puppies. We ordered fried options and everything was nice sizes and good portions. Will come back for some Dirty Dicks read more

Went for brunch here. My and I ordered the DDX crab dip sandwich which is supposed to be "the most popular" sandwich on the menu. My son ordered the kid's spaghetti and meatballs. The service was nice and the high puppies were delicious. I thought my DDX sandwich was ok. My husband hated his and would not finish it and my son hated the spaghetti sauce and ended up throwing it up in the bathroom. We were very disappointed in this restaurant. read more

Went late March at the tail end of the off season, but had a great dinner. Our waitress was friendly and checked in often. I ordered the A.Y.C.E Snow Crab Legs, and it was wonderful, I ate until I couldn't anymore. It was a bit pricey, but nothing unreasonable. Would definitely go again if I needed to get my crab leg fix while in the OBX. read more

The service was excellent, but my crab cake sandwich had a piece of paper in it. Also the crab dip was not that great.

Went here with family back in June. I wouldn't have picked it if it were my choice due to being vegan but everyone wanted seafood so we went here. If you're vegan, the selection is extremely limited and with that, to salads only of course (without the seafood/meats/cheeses atop them). The service was good but I only give it 3 stars due to the limited choices but naturally in a seafood chain you really can not expect much of any vegetarian fare but salads... read more

Food was so so. Waitress acted like she never served seafood before. I had to laugh when I paid $26 for the crabcake platter. Two tiny cakes came out with a TON of rice pilaf. Had to laugh... read more

Not bad for a chain. Good for a large group of people.

Our server, Thomas, was amazing. We had a party of 14 and he was so attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Would 100% recommend to anyone. read more

Had reservations for party of ten to celebrate the birthday of a crab lover. We were seated right away and our waitress took excellent care of us. I'm not a seafood eater and ordered the 12-oz New York strip, medium. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. The fried potato salad was good too. The rest of the adults in our party ordered seafood. Two shared a trinity platter and could not finish all of it. Stuffed flounder was a hit and the birthday girl enjoyed her crabs. We are from southern Maryland and she knows good crabs. My only regret is that I can't remember our waitress's name to give her kudos here. read more

The only reason I gave a 1 Star was cause I had to. My first impression was right ... turn around and walk away. The door glass & handle was So dirty. The bathrooms were gross and that's something that everyone needs to look at because if the bathrooms are dirty then they are dirty. Not to mention that one of the waiters/busboy was went in the bathroom and came out without washing his hands !!! . Gross.. They really live up to there name. Do not go there. Our waitress was not only very unfriendly & unattended but She forgot one of our main course and didn't even care. never came to check on us, no refills on drinks but the worst part was her rolling her eyes to the a few ... question my kids asked about the menu. HOW RUDE !!! I guess they don't care cause they know that they really don't need to work at all for there tips cause they charge 18% automatically into your bill so look closely to your bill people.... DIRTY DICKS. YES Extremely dirty and yes their dicks !!!!! read more

The name really describes the place well... they should hire a better dishwashing staff because when we got our little appetizer plates, there was food on them so it's clear they weren't washed well. The food tastes great if you want to wait for over an hour and you're open to the possibility of contracting a disease from the people that ate on their plates before you. Also they have a serious fly problem. If you're a risk taker, go here. read more

we aren't going back, bathroom had a very strong smell of fecal matter. ruined our meal

We had the breakfast buffet at Dirty Dicks. It was surprisingly good for a place not generally associated with breakfast. A great variety of foods are available. Everything we tried was good. They will custom make omelets, waffles and pancakes to order. We didn't try these since there was so much else to try. Service was great. If you arrive before 9am there is a 20% discount. Only downside was the music was too loud. But would definitely recommend. read more

Great food, but if you are looking for something cheap, that's not the place to do it. Be ready to fork out some money. Food was quickly served and our server had a great personality! read more

Delicious crab melts, good oysters, crab portions generous. Seating for lunch was immediate. Service was great, especially Sabrina who was excellent (helpful and friendly)! I think I might have even given an extra star just for her awesomeness. read more

The food was not great at all. They say the shrimp and grits are the best on the menu but it was terrible. The only good thing about this place are the funny shirts. read more

Food was way too expensive for what it was. A member of our group got food poisoning after eating oysters here. The only redeeming quality is the grits- they were great but the grouper was bland and vegetables not cooked well. As a seafood restaurant, grits shouldn't be your best quality. It was alright but not worth the price and making people sick. I think it survives as a tourist trap solely bc of the name. read more

Talk about a tourist type catchy name that we usually try to avoid. However in this case something about it made us stop in. Although we didn't really expect much we were pleasantly surprised. The food was OK to good. Nothing really to complain or brag about. What stood out was the service we received from Megan. She sure knew how to read the need and is a big reason for the five stars. We had a twenty month old child and five adults and she stayed on top of things from the beginning to the end. If we return to Nags Head we'll probably dine here again and you can be sure we'll ask for Megan. read more

Went to the restaurant for steamed blue crabs. Unfortunately they were out of crabs today. I had a "WOP* Italian Salad"and a "She Crab Soup". Both were good but overpriced. * https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wop read more

Amazing food, large quantities and awesome service from Kim! We will definitely be back!

For a crab house they didn't have any crabs. That should have been noted on the sign out front. The food was bland. The margarita was extremely strong and the bar didn't have the correct liquor to use for the margarita, so they had to improvise. Was not a good experience. read more

Food is ok, i was surprised to be served sauce drowned bbq in Carolina, but the hush puppies were to die for!

To begin with, we'd tried to eat at a different location in Avon and they closed early when they saw us entering the parking lot. We called the Nags Head location and they stayed open for us till we got there where our server and the manager were extremely welcoming and provided top notch service. The meal starts off with the best hush puppies you ever had and if you like a little spice, my mother and I had Bloody Mary's topped with half the kitchen including a crab leg. My boyfriend and I both had the full order of snow crab legs and that is PLENTY of leg to go around. They came out hot and we cleaned our plates. My mother and her friend had the stuffed grouper, Cajun mash potatoes and broccoli which is also highly recommended. After spending all day driving around, this was a happy ending to a long day. You want fried crap for cheap go to long john silvers. You won't regret your visit as long as you're there for quality seafood at market price. read more

Don't let the name put you off. This is a great spot for lunch, dinner or drinks and a REALLY FRIENDLY STAFF. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Richard and Rob B. and Kendra. They have a WIDE variety on the menu-we had seafood (lots), Huuuge burgers and their tacos were bigger and better than Plaza Azteca. Something for everyone here including the kids. Great spot on OBX with fair prices and good food. The staff here is actually glad you came in unlike some spots during the busy season where you're just another number. We'll be back soon! read more

Dirty Dick's Crab House - Nags Head - Dirty Dick's also has great merchandise and lots to choose from! - Seafood Near Me - Nags Head, North Carolina

Giving less than 4 stars for Dick's would be unjust. I've had a ton of different shrimp and grits, even in New Orleans. Dick's shrimp and grits is the best I've ever had. What was very impressive about our meal was that everything from hush puppies to the crab soup and clam chowder was all spectacular. Service was even better. Richard was one of the best servers I've ever run across in 20+ years in the restaurant business. A+ the whole way. Can't believe they have a 3 star rating definitely not deserved based on our meal. It is pricey, but it is seafood, what else would you expect? read more

VERY pleasantly surprised!! AWESOME service, and contrary to some of the reviews that we read, the food was amazing! BEST hush puppies ever, fantastic crab cakes with no filler, fresh, plump oysters on the half shell! This will DEFINITELY be a new regular stop on our OBX vacations! read more

Food was flavorless, fried, and not very good. I ordered a big platter to share with my wife. The description didn't say fried and I was under the impression I'd be having fresh seafood instead of deep fried mess. When asked how it was I said it was awful and got no response. When asked if I needed a box for leftovers I said I couldn't eat it the first time and didn't want to try it again. None of the employees seemed to care and I paid our bill and left. Part of the seating was cool and air conditioned but where we were seated was hot and humid. Never going back again. read more

Had dinner here & actually split an entree with my husband and we still had more food than both of use could consume. Food was fresh and delicious. Service was impeccable! We'll definitely be back! read more

We stopped by Dirty Dick's because we saw the signs and thought the signs were funny. We got there in time for happy hour which meant the appetizers were half price and a pound of steamed shrimp was $18 or so. Shrimp was good, hot wings were good, and alligator bites were good. Lots of food. Lots of kids in this restaurant, crying and screaming, did not care for that. Waitress was super nice. Overall OK. read more
