If you go, the best value here is the all you can eat snow crab and spiced shrimp which comes with red potatoes, corn on the cob and a piece of some extremely good sausage. A bit pricey (about $33) but you literally get *all you can eat* of steamed crab and shrimp. They definitely keep it coming until you honestly can't eat anymore. Our server today told us that the most anyone has eaten of both is 19 plates of crab and shrimp...consider yourself challenged! The atmosphere? Pretty much what you would expect from a beach establishment that caters to a very casual crowd. No finery but the employees are all extremely friendly, funny and sincere. And the gift shop is very cool. You'll pay for your seafood here but the quality is top notch. Two of us in our party of four had butterflied shrimp stuffed with crab (about $23) that came with a variety of roasted cubed potatoes and crisp, yummy green beans. Our shrimp were delicately steamed and amply stuffed with crab. It was a great meal. The other two with us had the all you can eat crab and shrimp. They did keep that crab and shrimp coming! And the hush puppies are fabulous. We often drive down from Norfolk just to eat here and have never been disappointed. Oh and as a last note, the waitress told me as I ordered coffee that they serve Gevalia but the water can be iffy when it comes to taste. I insisted she bring coffee and even took several refills. We arrived at 8pm and were advised that it would be a 15 minute wait. We expected to wait as we had a party of 8 but we did not get seated for 45 minutes and had to sit at separate tables. After ordering, we did not receive our food until almost 10 o'clock. Then, the food was not very hot and really was not very good. None of us "loved" our food but it was not terrible. For 8 of us the bill was $240. Restaurant was gimmicky and the food is not worth the price. Would not recommend. read more

I've been twice and the experience was the same both times. Decent fried seafood, if nothing special, sometimes over cooked. I ordered a double Gin & Tonic. If it had any tonic water, it had gone flat. Tasted very watery. The service was atrocious. Both times I waited almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged by the waitress. Service is slow and it's hard to get a waiter or waitress to pay attention to you when you need something. I won't be going back, and I don't recommend it. Id have to say the name is the most clever idea they came up with, Once inside your pretty much scamed out of your hard earned money so that you can enjoy an over air conditioned, tourist joint. Feb 22 been here since 5:00 and now 6:30 and still eating ! We come from Youngsville , NC once a year for my kids Birthday here . It's always amazing , the staff is wonderful ! We love the atmosphere here and how the staff makes you feel like family ! Yes there were to men acting like a$$ hats but nothing terrible and the manager took immediate care of the situation, and had the man removed ! It lasted maybe a whole 5 mins . IT was actually pretty entertaining, we and other customers were laughing about it. So some people just need to get over themselves that want to complain about that!!! We came, we saw, we left, disappointed. It took our group of three 45 minutes to get a table. While we waited we sat at the bar and at first the bartender was nice and got us drinks immediately but then he walked away and never came back, even after our beers were long gone. Before he left, we noticed a big sign at the bar with bar specials on it but when we tried to order from that menu the bartender told us that those specials were only from 3-6 even though there were no times written anywhere on the sign, so that was pretty sharty. Anyway, once we were seated our waitress was pretty perky but none of us were very happy with our food. I had half a steamed crab, which turned out to be 4 spindly crab legs, 2 tiny potatoes and the worst corn on the cob I've ever had. My brother had some seafood pasta which tasted good but was lacking in seafood, and my mom had steamed shrimp, which was doused in old bay and salt. Literally, they could've seasoned 10 pounds of shrimp with the amount of "spices" they dumped on her plate. She scraped off as much as she could but she said her tongue felt raw after she was done eating. I tried one prawn and I really don't know how she ate that whole plate, I would've sent it back. In general the portions were small considering the astronomical prices and all 3 of us left dissatisfied. At least we can say we tried Dirty Dicks, I guess. read more

I ordered the Dungeness crab and it was definitely frozen before. Didn't taste like crab, was discolored. Absolutely awful. Don't go here! Dirty Dick's was way overpriced and was a waste of time. First, we were seated in a back room that was roughly 95 degrees (who can eat in this environment). When we asked to move, even though they were not that busy, they seemed inconvenienced. When we finally sat down, we were shocked at the prices ($56 for ONE pound of their crab...your kidding me!) My husband ordered Crab Imperial and it was Deviled Crab instead (I have never eatten Imperial with ham in it.) I ordered Stuffed Shrimp, and it was filled with mostly onions and fillers. When we complained, our concerns were met with only excuses (nice customer service). After paying over $170 for 4 adults and 2 children, we left unhappy. Later that night, my daughter got an upset stomach and was up getting sick throughout the night. DO NOT GO HERE! Unless you enjoy paying money to get sick, in which case, this may be just the place for you! Our family has been coming here for many years. Go to Henry's, Awful Aurthur's, Carolina Seafood Buffet, or Miller's. AND if you want crab, go to Billy's Seafood in Collington and pay just $100 for an entire bushel! Man...Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head/Cape Hatteras aren't like the other cities...places do close early. My friend and I didn't realize that we were eating late for dinner. But we thought...no problem...since most places would be open until 11 or even midnight. That's not the case here...many of them were closed by 9pm. Well...Dirty Dick's was one of the few places left that was open for at least half an hour. But since we made it...the kitchen and bar remained opened. I had been here before...the one by the Okracoke ferry. So, I was looking forward to another good dining experience here. However, I was kinda disappointed that they didn't have the "po'boy" shrimp sandwich available. I guess that's only during lunch. Anyways, my friend and I shared our entrees together. He had the popcorn shrimps and I had the fried mahi mahi. The shrimps were bigger than the norm for popcorn shrimps but they were still good nonetheless. The mahi mahi was good but the one at Uncle Pauly's in Dare, NC was even better! And I wasn't quite impressed with their rice. However, the drinks were fabulous! Our waiter was super-friendly and knowledgeable of entrees. And even when the bar and kitchen were closed...he still gave us quality and attentive service. read more

Fish was raw, anything fried tasted like they used motor oil. Served the children's food 15 minutes ahead of the adults, and waitress was very rude and not knowledgable about the menu. Two members in our party of 6 ordered prime rib, and twenty minutes after the order went in the waitress sauntered by and casually said "we ain't got no prime rib today" what else do you want. Great Food!! We started with a pitcher of Sangria, and it was excellent. very smooth and totally recommended for appetizers ordered the friend calamari and it was vey crisp and tasty. For dinner, I ordered the catch of the day, which was the blackened grouper and ordered it with lemon butter sauce which made it even better. You can taste the freshness in the fish. I brought my family to Southern Shores/Kitty Hawk for a week's vacation. We ate a few places which were fine, but I was surprised that it was hard to get good seafood ON the ocean. Finally, on Thursday we decided to stop at Dirty Dick's, we almost didn't because of the name but ultimately did, because of the name. We came in and were seated in Jen's section. She is OUTSTANDING!!! She took care of us. I ordered a piña colada and the oyster po boy and my wife got the fish sandwich and we ordered the shrimp for our son. The seafood was very fresh and the helpings were huge. The best oysters I had all week. I can't say enough nice things about Jen. Jen was personable, and knowledgable about the menu and gave the perfect suggestion for lunch. She loved on our son and he loved her back! The manager, Dale, checked up on us and made sure that everything was perfect: it was. We were served great food by an excellent server with great conversation and attention to detail. We will definitely go back there the next time we come back and you should go too! read more

I can only speak to walking in at lunch time. We were seated in an empty section where 3 tables near us were dirty, like food all over, gross, dirty. The woman who sat us went back to the front and sat down to talk to someone. No one else came over, we had menus but nothing to drink and I was thirsty. We waited for almost 10 minutes and then walked out without anyone ever coming over to our table. The menu was boring and I got the feeling that they only get business from tourists. I do feel that I'm being a little unfair giving it only 1 star not having eaten the food or experienced to service.... But then again, that wasn't our fault. read more

Wow! THIS is where I'd suggest for seafood! Stopped in for lunch and glad we did! The three of us ordered an order of King Crab Legs, half order of "huge shrimp" (as they're called here) which we included the option of corn on the cob, andouille sausage and new potatoes. Also, we ordered two baskets of fries and two orders of the hushpuppies. Did I say WOW yet? The claws were a 10 out of 10! Two huge clusters. Lots of meatiness in the claws...served with drawn butter. The shrimp were 6 incredibally tasty ones -- 4" long -- with tasty cocktail sauce! I'll post the picture to prove it. LOL. Bad, bad, bad news! 2 hours later a 5 year old is still waiting for his dinner. Manager gave excuses, we didn't want to hear it he stormed off mad!! When food came it was cold. Drinks took forever so if u did have hot food it got cold waiting for your drink. When the kid food finally came (while i was writing this) it was the wrong order. It's a tradition that we stop by dicks every year to do the ayce crablegs. The service is always great but I've noticed a difference in the crab legs this year. It wasnt as fresh and you also don't get them on a cluster and the claw. This year it seemed like all the bad legs were served , the meat stuck to the shell and it wasn't very meaty. Quite a mix of experiences during this visit. Food between our party of 8 was from horrible to good. Horrible... anything fried. Good... the king crab (however it was grossly over priced for the serving size) and the steamed muscles. In the ok range was the fish tacos. Two people were slightly sick after eating the French Dip. Unfortunately we were out to have an adult night out and just after ordering they sat 5 tables full of kids around us on 3 sides. it was so kid and obnoxious we had to go bring our food into the bar area to finish eating. I know it's overpriced, but I don't see why everyone is being so hard on this place. I have typically lived in land-locked states, so going somewhere where my husband and I can get fresh seafood is a rare occurance. My husband LOVES seafood, and ordered a half order of some variation of crabs they had available that day, and it literally arrived on a 3 foot long plate. He said they were great, and they looked pretty good to me even though I'm not a huge fan of my food having eyes when it arrives. I'm not a huge fan of seafood, but they had this crab lasagna concotion which was perfect. I felt like I was getting the seafood experience without the overly-fishyness. We also had a crab dip appetizer that was fantastic. Our server was nice, the service was good, and I purchased an embarrassing, tourist-trap t-shirt. I am shameless. Ordered a cheese steak panini with extra cheese and mushrooms, it came with no mushrooms and little to no cheese and when I said something the waiter said "well, I told them" and walked away.
