This letter is in regards to our issues we have been experiencing with DirecTV. On April 19th we had DirecTV installed and the installer was completely inappropriate. I was told it would take approximately two hours for installation and the installer was at my home from 3:30p.m. until 9:45p.m., just over six hours. He informed us that he was an illegal alien with a fake social security number and that is how he has gotten away with all the crimes we has done, explaining some in detail. He also was walking all over our home with his cell phone on speaker half the time he was here using extremely foul language. When he was finished with the instillation he left all the trash all over the house, including out on the roof. Also he got into inappropriate details about what he does and gets from girls on the internet. Last but not least he tried selling us steroids from the DirecTV truck, telling us that's how he makes all his money. When calling DirecTV to complain and inform them of the installer, I was told by several different people there is nothing they can do because he is contracted out.
Since the installer assured us that we would not be affected by trees he placed the dish on the flat roof, which is also the lowest roof of the house because he told us he was not comfortable on a ladder. However every time it's over cast we get terrible reception and when it rains we don't get a picture at all. We called DirecTV customer service to inform them of the situation and they sent someone out on May 7th. After the man looked at it he told me he could not fix the problem, it looked as though the dish needed to be extended higher or it needed to be relocated. I asked him if he could do that for us because I had taken time off work to be home (unpaid time) and I was told that you would fix the problem. He told me his work order was to only look at the wiring, and he did so, because he is contracted out he gets paid by the job and had to move on. He then told me I would have to call DirecTV back and have someone else come out to look at it. When I called DirecTV customer service to inform them of the situation again they stated that this was normal and may happen from time to time, that is just the way it is and I may have to deal with it, that's the way satellite works.
It was only several days later we noticed that we had no picture at all on a clear day. I spent hours on the phone and spoke to several different people trying to determine the problem. I was hung up on by customer service , was given a number to call because customer service could not help me in which the number she was giving me was my personal cell phone number, was also given a number by someone else that just directed me back to customer service. After all this I finally spoke to someone and was informed that our service had been temporarily disconnected due to the fact that our bill had not been paid. What had happed is that there was some confusion when we canceled Verizon's bundle package and we had never received a bill from DirecTV. It was then that I paid the amount of $108.17 over the phone by check. It was at this point I had also asked about the specials I have seen advertised in the paper and TV for $29.99 a month. I was told I hade never seen an offer at that price and the best she should do was $84.00 a month and I could call a different number to receive a small rebate. (So I have attached a copy of only one of the many offers $29.99 that I was told did not exist.) After a lengthy amount of time they then informed they could not have my service back on until they had a credit card number on file, and I refused to do so. After speaking to several other people regarding the problem they said it should not be a problem giving them my credit card number because it would be imposable for them to have hooked up the service without one. I know this could not have been true because I would never give out my credit card number; I would have never gone through with the instillation. They then connected me to someone else and I was informed by the lady that they never should have been asking for my credit card number because they do not need it to reconnect my service and she then reconnected it. It was at this point that I had completely had it with DirecTV and now have spent more time on the phone than necessary.
It was only a short time until I experienced more problems with my service. When calling to resolve the problem I was getting no where, I have never in my life have seen such terrible customer service. It was at this point we had decided to disconnect our service. I do not think it is right to have to pay an early cancellation fee of $440.00 after everything we have been though and not even have reception most of the time. read more
