I was a loyal customer of DIRECTV for many years and through multiple moves. Over time my package changed depending on new rates and channels. I recently moved and called months in advance to inform DIRECTV that I needed to cancel my service. I told them the date. I did not sign up again because I was not in a permanent home. When I received my final bill, they charged me for the entire month even though I was not living at the residence and had canceled the service. I called DIRECTV immediately and they created a support case and was told that someone would get back to me. DIRECTV called me two times on the ticket and said they were continuing to research. After hearing nothing back I called and asked to speak with a manager. The manager was rude and condescending and stated that I needed to have the service shut off one day prior or else I would have to pay for the entire month. I explained the situation and told the manager that I called DIRECTV more than once before canceling the service and the representatives never mentioned this to me. I had to pay $223.86 for one day of service. Even though I was a loyal customer for years, it did not matter. DIRECTV should NOT be locking customers into contracts, charging fees for services that were not used, and also charging early termination fees. How can DIRECTV charge an early termination fee for a loyal customer that's had service for several years? DIRECTV has since called me on four occasions to sign up for service again. I will NEVER use DIRECTV again. You should be more customer focused, especially to your loyal clients. BEWARE of their unreasonable contract terms. read more

Beyond horrible!! First they raise the rate from$130 to $180 in one month and I have no HBO or any fancy channels. They need all that money to pay fancy actors to do their TV commercials. The equipment doesn't work. There is no tech support at night. After 23 years with them, I am treated like a piece for garbage. 23 years and never offer the NFL season pass that they give to new clients. (What a bunch of A-holes!!) Well, so long suckers!!! I'm saying good by and going to the cable to save $140 a month. read more

I called to compare prices on Direct TV vs. cable. To get a price, you need to basically sign up. They didn't disclose until they were in the process of doing it, that they had taken my information to run a credit check. I was just about to buy a home, and have filed all my paperwork, so this credit inquiry was very inconvenient for me. I told the rep so and hung up without giving my credit card number to complete my purchase. I immediately got 3 return phone calls from her supervisor trying to convince me to purchase the package anyway. I informed him I did not want the services and hung up, he called back 2 times anyway. Three days later, calls started from a different area code. I hang up each time, but they will continue to call and change the number from which they call, simply to avoid being blocked. Any company who needs to give you the hard sell like this, probably has a terrible product. There is no use complaining to the company, because all they do in places like this is blame the minimum wage employee who called you and use the complaint as an excuse to not give them their promised "performance" incentives at work, in effect, punishing their employees for carrying out the company's heinous policy of harrassing potential customers. Direct TV deserves every consumer class action suit they get. read more

My roommate and I have tried to deal with Directv in a reasonable manner to no avail. The entire company is set up as one big Screw Job. They are very tricky and quite good at dehumanizing their clientele and employees. Everyone we talked to when disputing a false charge would have lost their job if they reversed the charge, and they do not give out the phone numbers of the people who DO have the power to reverse the charge. Go figure. We tried to cancel our service, and found out they were going to charge us a $360 cancellation fee. It would have taken a careful scouring of the fine print and some arithmetic to see that coming. Still, we should have known when dealing with a big company like Directv that looks to exploit its customers rather than provide quality service, reading the fine print closely is a good idea. Either way, we called Directv, and on our second try we talked to a man who assured us there would be no fee for cancellation. We double checked, he reassured, but low and behold, a $360 cancellation charge showed up on our next bill. I have never been moved to write a negative Yelp review, but the treatment we received when trying to dispute that claim made me physically ill. We were given false information by one of their employees [that there would be no fee], and they refused to take any responsibility for it. The "customer service" people we spoke with read off a script, refused to answer our questions, made us write a letter to someone who probably didn't even read it, and wasted a total of about four hours of my life giving me the run-around. They had no intention of reviewing our claim, admitting to misleading us with false information that there would be no fee, stealing our money, or returning said money. Our formal dispute was responded to with a wrote letter that made no reference to anything specific regarding our particular case. So now we are paying 360 dollars to NOT RECEIVE ANY SERVICE. IN SHORT: Never give Directv any credit card information because they will very possibly find a way to steal hundreds of dollars from your account by misleading you and ignoring your inquiries. May all of their customer service employees find less soul-sucking jobs, and may the suits at the top be eaten by fire ants. read more

We pushed through our two year contract but it was difficult to do so. The introductory price isn't too bad for the service but they rob you blind as soon as that introductory price goes away. So we switched to comcast and when my husband went to cancel we heard this from the representative: well you had equipment upgrades and were eligible for some discounts. Um, okay, so why do I have to call you to complain before you will give me these upgrades and discounts? As a loyal customer for at this point, over two years (and we had used the service in other areas before) why wouldn't you just apply these discounts and upgrades? Instead I have to threaten to leave before I get them? Terrible, horrible business practices. Will never use Direct TV again. read more

Direct TV advertises that they give reception 99% of the time. This is true if you live somewhere that never has any wind or rain. Otherwise it's about 75%. Correcting it by following their TV screen instructions and using your remote is useless. Just keep pushing the red dot or slide in and out the card on the box. Eventually something will happen. If you really don't want to miss a show or catch a football game turn on the TV about 30 minutes before they start as "rebooting" can take any where from 60 seconds to 30 minutes. If this doesn't work do NOT call them - trust me. Go over to a neighbor's house and watch the game. Bring cookies or beer. read more

poor service, mediocre reception on average but forget about watching TV in a blizzard or rainstorm when you have nothing else to do, you are able to get great reception during cloudless beautiful days in the summer, very high cost compared to competitors! Bonus: When I canceled my service (both in Florida and in Boston over past few years) and returned the tv reception devices in the boxes they require you to, they still charged a 132 'fee' despite after the 2 year contract! Fee for something which noone can give a straight answer. Seriously who would want to keep the box which is outdated and doesn't work for anything else lol -they are nutzo. So dont bother with their service unless you are rich and have money to blow. read more

We had direct tv installed when we was living outside of Worcester MA and signed up for two years. We were moving after a year to be closer to our jobs in the Boston area. The landlord of the apartment we are going to rent is only allowing the dish to be put in one specific spot. It doesn't work there so we asked to terminate the contract. We were told we had to pay a 13 month termination thru no fault of ours. We spoke to a representative who told us too bad the landlord's placement request was not good enough to terminate early. We do not have the almost $300 extra for this company. We have never been treated so poorly. We will make sure to tell all our friends and relatives to stay away from Direct TV that they are all about the money and don't care about the customer. read more

We've just become new customers with Direct TV and Verizon as an advertised bundle of TV, phone, and Internet. Oh my God, what did we do? Verizon changed our phone number of 36 years with the promise that, as soon as Comcast was cancelled they could get us our original number back. Nope, it did not happen! The Internet is slow as shit, so our smart TV, or any TV will not allow any on demand viewing. My internet service reminds me of my old AOL dial up! We have been Direct Tv customers for 10 years. We have just moved in to a new house that has a direct tv dish already installed on it. We have set up 4, I repeat 4 installation appointments. We still do not have service at our new house. We have been given different excuses for each of the techs, while the fourth just chose to not show up. If I could give negative stars at this point I would! I am extremely angry, as is my husband, who has taken off 2 day of work to be here for some of these appointments. Not only did the fourth tech not show up, he didn't even call to let us know! So far we have wasted 16 hours of our time trying to get this set up! It is completely and utterly rediculous and awful how they treat their customers! We are angry and frustrated and want to let people know about their "customer service". They apparently could set us up if we let them put a new dish front and center of our house and drill holes through our floors! It is a sad day today. I have been a big proponent of Directv for a very long time & now I agree with others, they are just there to rip you off. I spoke to 4 different employees at Directv and each time received different information from them. A rep told me they could suspend my service if I just paid a balance & that the amount I piad would go towards a credit on my next bill once service started up again. This was a lie. In my mind, this is as close to stealing money from me as it gets. Tara, the supervisor I spoke to, did everything in her power to 'talk' her way out of what I was being charged. But the bottom line was, I was paying over $100 for absolutely nothing. No services, just a big headache of calling in, talking to numerous different reps who told me wrong information, and wasting HOURS of my day. I signed up for Directv through Verizon in 2010 and was never told of a fee to cancel an account early. I had never heard of such a thing, which didn't matter to them since that was clearly a way to con money off customers. Once the commercials came out highlighting this fact I was delighted. At least people will know what they are getting themsleves into! I will never use them again & will be sure to let my friends know the type of service to expect if you do.... read more

Beyond frustrated, and I won't start with the non-English speaking customer service representative. So, I cancel service because I am moving and had issues with the service to begin with. I am hit with a $275.00 fee and when I call for an explanation, the representative successfully convinces me to re-establish my service at my new address for the duration of my agreement. Fine. But when the technician shows up to install, he reports that he cannot because of city ordinance and obstruction of a clear signal because of trees. Cool with that, too! Now I get my cancellation fee refunded, because they cannot install service. Not my fault (and really a lucky break). But Here is where Direc TV demonstrates that "Excellence in Customer Service", be it self-proclaimed. I call the next business day to get my refund, and of course, I get a rep that struggles to articulate in English. She attempts to convince me that it will take 7-10 business days to Mail Me My Refund. Why Mail it when they were so quick to take it directly out of my checking account? I insist that they credit the amount directly to my bank and when she hesitates, I ask for her supervisor. She puts me on hold. (Because I'm all ready frustrated enough). After several minutes, she comes back on the line to tell me that a supervisor is unavailable and she will issue a request that the funds to directly back into my account. Why the hold? Why the lie? Again, I am told it will be 7-10 business days. Now I'm angry and inform her that this in unacceptable. That's the Secret! You have to get Angry! Because magically, she can now issue the refund directly back into my account in 5 days! When I ask her why I had to get angry in order to receive my refund in a Reasonable amount of time, she explained that they are Trained to Say That. BTW, her name is Nicole and her operator number is 6450843. Trained To Mislead Their Customers is what she SAID!! I posted this on Facebook and asked my friends to reconsider their Direc TV subscription. The feedback was astounding and consistent with mine. What a joke!!! I cannot be more thankful that they cannot install that UGLY dish on my house. read more

This is probably the best place to write this review. Directv has probably the worst service and customer service. I recently moved from jersey city (having verizon Fios) to bayonne (being forced to have directv). I actually wanted Verizon Fios but they don't have it in bayonne so i did a bundle with verizon which consisted of getting internet and phone with verizon and cable services from directv. The bundle was supposed to be 79.99 - a special for online customers only. There was some complications because when we moved in we didn't have internet yet so we had to do it through our phones. After some very friendly verizon phone calls and some not so friendly directv calls I finally managed to get everything in order. Finally - no more phone calls. Nope, I was wrong. We get our first bill and of course we expected a higher bill, but there were fees that we were not aware about. We called AGAIN to confirm these extra charges. A receiver charge of $15, an $8.00 protection plan charge, a charge for DVR, and several other fees that I managed to cancel. My concern was that no one told us about any of these fees. Verizon was easy, I told them what I wanted and they accommodated me as best they could. Directv will make you speak to several representatives before you can even get an answer. On top of that, most don't even know what the policies are or what you're asking. We finally got our issues resolved, but of course there were still other fees that I had to fight about. I've had them for about 4 months now and I call at least twice a month for something. On top of the annoyance of having to call, directv has probably the worst service I've experienced. I used to have them a few years back and their service quality is still the same. When it rains, we can't even watch tv because it freezes so much. Forget about watching tv if it snows. I'm writing this to all the future buyers who are thinking of going with directv. SPARE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND MONEY. If you can afford to go to verizon fios, please do. They're helpful and very knowledgeable about their products and services. If we didn't have a 2 year contact with directv, we would have cancelled already. Shame on me for signing off 2 years of my money to a company who can't even provide decent customer service. Good luck to those who are still stuck with them like i am. I hope this helps! read more

This has been the most frustrating experience.. I sign up and am told twice that no satellite is needed. Tech shows up and asks where he can put a satellite. I send him away with no install. I call to cancel service and prevent the wifi tech from coming out for their appoitnment and not only can I not get a live person, when I do, I'm given 4 different numbers to call. I'm just trying to cancel an order and can't find the appropriate person to do that. Phone numbers lead to automated systems at best, and at worst disconnect me entirely. For a service provider, the service is deplorable- I'm only grateful I never completed the installation so I'd be stuck with that service for the required two year contract. Never again. read more

We have been searching for an alternative for our current tv/internet service. Currently being an AT&T cell phone customer, I thought this would be an easy and convenient match up. How wrong I was. After being asked a multitude of questions about my current service, which I refused to answer, The $29.99 "package" advertised was going to cost me $80.99 per month. At that point the customer service rep requested my S.S. # " to check my credit ". Since Direct TV is owned by AT&T I told her that she had 15 years of my credit history at her disposal. Sorry, No social security # No discounts quoted for a better price. WAKE UP DIRECT TV & AT&T. I just had the WORST experience with a Direct TV technician. We had our account put on hold for YEAR because we were moving and loved Direct TV. When our house was finally in the last stages of being built, we called Direct TV to come and install it on the new house. Technician Thomas Verducci ID # 5349 came and immediately starting looking for ways to get out of doing the job. It was a very hot day, and he didnt want to work in the attic. He muttered that there wasn't any air conditioning, and was adamant that the wiring the electricians installed was incorrect. The wiring is up to code. The electrician was looking at this tech like he had two heads, because the stuff he was saying was ludicrous. This man then had the audacity to say he couldn't install the system because we didnt have outlet covers. OUTLET COVERS? Really? You could tell he was trying g everything to get out of the job. He said that he usually installs when there are pictures on the wall. WHAT? what the hell does that have to do with anything? He was concerned that if we moved the genies he installed, that HE would be charged because the service did t work. He was more concerned about himself, and not us. He was the most arrogant, lazy, incompetent person I have ever met. He needs to be fired. I'm canceling our account with DIRECT TV. Which I thought was great but when I got my next bill and saw i was charge $51 for my movie channels I thought there must have been a mistake. The rep said that you don't get the discount until the next billing cycle so for the partial month (which was 28 days) I was charged full price for hbo and full price for Cinemax which I never wanted. We have been DIrect TV customers for seven years. A year ago we purchased an HD television and "upgraded" our Direct TV service to include HD. Well the upgrade cost us $127.28 for the receiver and delivery plus tax. OK that was accepted. I have my order for this so called upgrade and nowhere within that order does it say we are committed to this service for two years and if we cancelled prior to the two year time period we are heavily penalized. It does say however "local channels in HD". Well, we received HD channels (most were not channels we care to watch). We were charged and additional $10.00 per month for this service. Our local network channels (NBC, ABC. CBS, PBS, and Fox) were not in HD. After a year of this we decided to just cancel the service and since we discovered we could get a wide selection of channels including the local networks on an antenna we decided to discontinue our service with Direct TV. I was told by the Direct TV representative that I would be charged for the "early disconnect" . This would be somewhere in the $240.00 range. I wrote several emails and there was no way to avoid this fee except to stay on the service for 12 more months. I cut the service back dollar wise and then received a letter from a representative that due to our landlord not allowing us to have a dish installed they (Direct TV) were discontinuing our service immediately and we would be charged at least $220.00. We have not moved and have lived at our current residence now 26 years. I have appealed the additional charges I feel Direct TV operates in a fraudulent manner. I have also filed a complaint with the FCC. Today I paid the additional charges to Direct TV in the amount of $232.21 for an early disconnect fee. I will no longer challenge this company but I will spread the word to all my friends and neighbors and to anyone else that this company leaves much to be desired. Interestingly enough most of my neighbors that have Direct TV do not even know they are not getting their local channels in HD. Wise up public you are being taken. Shame, shame on Direct TV. I a was a 10 year customer at Directv National. I am sincerely frustrated with their cancellation policy/customer service policy. I have always looked at customer service as an important way to maintain customers. I "suspended" my service back in late August. I then forgot to call in after the six months were up (Busy running a company in a new location). I then received an invoice 2 months later informing me that i owe for $318.00. I called to hopefully get this resolved and was told different things from different people. At the end I was told I needed to pay the entire $318.44 (two months worth of service I didn't use). Not only that, but I am being asked to pay for 2009 (not 2010) NFL package first payment even though I was in my "suspension" period starting mid August. I spent over an hour going back and forth with little success. When I asked to speak to someone who has the latitude to make a decision, he told me that no one was availalbe. He said that "Jose" would call me back. He would not give me "Jose's ID#. So, now I am left to wait for "Jose" to call me back. In the meantime, I am paying a fee everyday for my service (that I am not using). I also need to pay an additional $240.00 to "cancel" my service. So, to sum it up I now need to pay over $500 for service that I didn't use. I am clearly being held hostage to either pay the $318.00, otherwise my fees will continue to go up every day. I will reluctantly pay the cancellation fee, but the 2 months worth of additional service is completely ridiculous. read more
