I recently purchased a new television, one with HD hookup and was told that because the model of TV and receiver dose not fit HD, i would be charged an additional $200 bucks for continued service with Direct TV. At this point I would rather pay the early cancelation fee than to be taken on a ride any further. Please tell me that there is something to be done???? Mary Taylor Feb 15 (8 days ago) to DIRECTV This again is not the solution I was looking for and I will be terminating my service shortly. I will also ask the number of family and friends I recommended your service to do the same. It is unfortunate that your level of service does not do more to retain customers as it does to bait new customers into signing up. Couple this with your recent service limitation (two popular channels in the New England region being blocked out due to contract disputes and your poor management of the issue), you leave customers who are truly with you for your claimed value, no other choice. Perhaps Comcast is worth the additional money? A shame really that scams like these are still in place and that the BBB hasn't done more to protect consumers from misleading and poor customer service. Perhaps you can stop your self proclaimed "excellence" in this area: "DIRECTV does provide great existing customer offers from time to time to qualifying accounts. These are typically sent via email and/or phone contact. Your account would need to be set to accept promotional contact in order to receive these. You can also call 1-800-531-5000 and speak with a customer service specialist at any time to see if any offers are available for your account." And let customers, like me sing your praises or your clear shortcomings. Regards, Mary Taylor read more

i am a customer in Tulsa Oklahoma we have not had CBS channel in over 6 weeks and now they removed NBC station. Direct TV may be the worst Customer Support company in the US. Their agents lie to you , the Corp office won't take calls or help with complaints. Do your self a favor. Don't walk away from Direct TV may....RUN. !!!!! PS They are owned and managed by AT&T. Iam canceling 6 lines with AT&T because of poor service from Direct Tv read more

We signed up for Direct tv in July with a guaranteed price of $117/month. The gentleman we talked to, Alex, promised that the price wouldn't change and there would be no cancellation fee. Since then they have increased their price twice and it is now $141 and they say we have to pay them $20/month for the remainder of the two years if we cancel. We called and they refused to budge and their supervisor never returned the call as promised. How do they get away with lying like this? We just want what we were promised. read more

I was with Directv for about 30 years. My equipment was so old, they said not to return it. They just charged me a cancellation fee because in Nov. 2024 my husband asked for an update on his DVR (which was so old they didn't want it back). The fee was $121.94. Steer clear of Directv. They will find a way to bill you as you walk out the door. Said they couldn't possibly credit the bill so I wouldn't have to pay it. So much for 30 years of never being a day late on the bill. I know they are a dying company, but this was really too much. read more

I am very dissatisfied with DirecTV. I called to cancel today because it costs so much but January 10th of this year I had ordered Gemini and an extra box for my living room and decided two days later to cancel and I called them right away to cancel and then they said they would send me an email so I could return the equipment I waited two weeks never heard from them so I called again and they said they would send me the information to send with the equipment and I waited and then finally I went to UPS on February 1st and return the equipment and I made sure to keep my receipt because AT&t DirecTV has said that they never received the equipment for my son 13 years ago and luckily I had kept the receipt for proof so he wouldn't have to pay them and then it happened to my mom 2 years ago when she returned her equipment they said they never received it unfortunately she couldn't find her receipt because she has dementia and so she ended up having to pay for the equipment. But anyway I was told if I cancel I was under 2-year contract so I would have to pay $180 if I canceled and I told them that I canceled within 2 days there should be a 3-day grace period for canceling but they said DirecTV does not do that so I will be calling the better Business bureau too I'm very unhappy and angry I sent the equipment as soon as possible but they still say I'm not able to cancel the fee so I'm very aggravated lesson learned. read more

LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS A company doesn't get so many consistent one-star reviews for good service. If anyone is considering using their services, hopefully, these consistent negative reviews will help you make a decision to pick another vendor. LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS LIARS Q - What happens AT&T when you outsource and off-shore your customer service department? A - You get a lot of pissed off customers that will flock to your competitors. I am now one of them. Despicable treatment by a group of totally untrained, uneducated, incompetent L I A R S First call 10/17 - This is where I lost 51 minutes of my life trying to explain an issue to their incoherent representatives. First Eileen who was totally useless. Then her 'supervisor', Jasmine who guaranteed me I would receive an email from someone on their tech team within 72 hours, Ticket #1-236907879796R2. It sounded far-fetched, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. 10/24 - As anticipated, no response. Called again and spoke with Sierra who again, was of no use. I asked to AGAIN speak with a supervisor. After waiting for 1 hour 27 minutes (stupid me) with her coming back on the line every so often to assure me that the supervisor was coming, she disconnected the call. I guess that was her way of letting me know that a supervisor wouldn't be coming after all. Right back at you AT&T/DirectTV. Tomorrow, it's my turn and I will be one to hit the disconnect button and terminate your services. read more

Unfortunately, there isn't anything less than *, or I would give Direct TV a negative *****. The reception keeps going out and the price going up. They also have the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Recently, we were scammed for $1k by a group of pros posing as reps from Direct TV. They created a very elaborate scam. They gained access to our account and contact info. from Direct TV. First they upgraded our service to gain our trust. Then they called back to check on our level of satisfaction and provide us with a special offer. Pay for 12 months upfront for $1k and receive $200 off the total annual cost. The details and story are too long to go on. The bottom line is that these people were using stolen credit cards and pretending to be the actual customer to set up appointments to upgrade your service. Then pretend to be Direct TV when calling the customers. The payments/credit appears on your account. Except the payment would diapered when credit card company was alerted and retracted the payment. Direct TV shut off service and we couldn't understand why they were claiming we hadn't paid? We provided all the documentation and proof of payment. But they refused to take any responsibility or even offer to work with us to solve the problem. They refused to give us some kind of discount considering we lost so much money and the thieves had accessed their system to gain access to our account info. We reached out to the highest level of customer service, but were denied any sort of compromise. The service was never very good or consistently working well. But in Boston, we can only use dish or xfinity. FIOS hasn't completely been set up. So we opted for a $15 antennas from Target and Walmart. Worst people and service ever. read more

got a letter with a new access card saying switch now replace this card for that card and gave me the numbers and then activate by calling 877-376-8169. I did that and the rep changed the wrong box and they cant fix that so they said they would have to send another access card (at my expense)?????? I did not ask for the card and I am not the one who activated the wrong box. after spending 3 1/2 hours on the phone 2 calls with tech support 1 with a supervisor and 1 with retention I am told I am not getting any new cards. I have no service on the box they screwed up on, I got no credit for out of service and now they want to send me new boxes, which that was a problem last year that took 4 months to resolve, anyone have any suggestion how to get out of the hell that is directv? read more

If you get their service make sure that when you cancel you cancel on the EXACT date of your billing cycle. They will NOT issue any prorated fees paid even though they are NOT providing you with ANY service. Unethical? I think so. Unfair? You bet. Misleading? Yup. Legal? Seem to be as it's buried in the service agreement you "agree" to when you become a customer. read more

Am disgusted with their practices... My elderly mother had a service disruption and after calling customer service with her was told the remedy was to get rid of our old boxes and get the HD boxes... Asked several times if there would be a charge or fee. As my mother is on a fixed income. In no way did I ask to upgrade, my mom's vision is poor anyway and HD means nothing to her. Was told no new fees. Was told everyone is going to have to get the new boxes as the old ones would stop working... was told no new contract to sign as the upgrade was needed by them not requested by us... Fast forward my elderly mother gets an email before the service date saying she would be billed 300 bucks for the boxes.... Back on the phone with customer service again am told it was a mistake... "forget about the email". Was assured there would be no change in billing or be charged for box upgrade... They finally come out and do the service and SURPRISE! THEY LIED! Have spent hours on the phone and am told by the agents they are surprised I was charged but there is nothing they can do. They want to charge my elderly mother 300 bucks for the boxes and they signed her up for a 24 month contract. Multiple calls dropped mysteriously after being on hold with them. Have to call back several times... Shady Shady Shady! Make sure you record your calls because they will outright lie to you. Oh, and the ticket number they give you, you are at the mercy of what they want to write... When I called before the service and could have cancelled, I was told not to worry, no fees... Then to make you feel better they gave me a ticket number to reference about our conversation. When I called back, all they made note of was that I called and that they "educated" me about the upgrade... the ticket number means nothing. Protect yourself and record your conversations, just tell them you are recording. Or demand for something in writing before you have service. What a disgusting company to take advantage of an elderly person like this. Over a lousy few hundred bucks.... would have made thousands more off of her if you weren't deceitful! Shame on you! read more

Let me start off with the fact that I have been a customer of Directv since 1993. I'm the guy that paid $900 for my dish and installation etc. Here's the thing, they own the NFL and it's exclusivity to the Sunday Ticket, if they didn't at this point, I would be G-O-N-E! I contacted them today to pay my $299.99 bill in full over the phone, rather than get it in installments. So the rep refigures my bill and tells me by paying over the phone with a rep, I will be assessed an additional $5 on my next bill. So let me get this right, I am pre-paying and you want to charge me more? Only in America !!! This is the shit that drives me nuts about companies like this... THEY JUST DONT GET IT !!!! Anyways, couple that with if its bad weather you may lose your signal, and just jacking up their prices over and over again, I've had just about enough... I wish timewarner or some other cable company would outbid these no good son of a bitches !!! Suck it Directv !!! read more

Ripoffs and Cheats. I would never do business with this company again. They came on to me with a 24.99/month offer which, when I got the bill, was 75 dollars a month. They are cheats. They employ bait and switch tactics, enter into contracts they KNOW they cannot meet then strongarm you into packages and service you don't want. And then you are stuck for 2 years. When I called up to complain the CSR I spoke to laughed at me and said, "Welcome to the world of the big kids. You're stuck with it." I hung up on him. I would never recommend Direct TV to anyone, not because the service is bad, but because they are cheats out to get your money in whatever deceptive way they can. read more

Not sure where I can write a review except for here. Their customer service is horrible. You basically in the end have to pay extra for everything. The intro price is good. Again that is introductory and it raises after a year. You are tied in for 2year contract. After a year, their prices go up too. SO expect to pay more. I went from RCN Cable to Direct TV. I lost a bunch of channels that I had with RCN that I didn't have to pay for. It's like $20/per month for the channels I had free with my prior cable service. I was able to get internet with my old provider. Direct TV doesn't offer internet in my area. Every time I ask they say, no I can't give you internet unless you bundle. Than when I asked how much they can't even provide me with it because they don't have internet service for me. I had to call 3 times before I was able to get them to send me a box to return equipment. THREE TIMES! I also lose service when it rains. Normally if the customer service was good, they would try to resolve so that at least we are satisfied. but don't expect to get that with Direct TV. I will definitely be leaving directTV once my contract is up. read more

We are WAY out of the city, but since our house had Direct TV, when we moved in; we went with it. 'Twas okay, until Winter hit. Every time we got a storm, our reception went South. Finally, we called, in the middle of a three day storm: US: Hey, we haven't gotten any service for 2 days now. THEM: well, maybe your dish is in a Bad Place. US: You guys installed the dish, didn't ja? THEM: Maybe you could take a hose and knock the ice off the dish US: In the Middle of an Ice Storm? What possible good could that do? THEM: BZZZZZZ (They hung up on us) Not so great with the customer service. read more

0 Stars!!! After 3 attempts at installation, I'm giving up on DirecTV. On 1st attempt installer refused to install dish. 2nd attempt no installer showed up because supposedly the installation was rescheduled by the system without informing me. On 3rd attempt, even after receiving confirmation calls and texts including a specific install time, no one showed. Customer service refused to escalate my issues to management to get resolved and I'm not wasting another day waiting for no one to show! This has been the worst "customer service" experience I can remember! read more

One discount being refer a friend, WELL never saw the discount on my bill, so my friend that referred me and Myself called DTV and were told that i ordered through a 3rd party called Direct Star, (which I had NO idea I did, as far as I knew it was DTV) anyway, DTV is saying its Direct Stars issue and they don't accept customer discounts, and I KNOW I gave the info to someone, and DTV is saying they do not have anything, and when I call Direct Star they just transfer me over to DTV.. The likelihood of good service with this company is less than the horse talking in their commercials. Dear DirecTV, your customer service agent on the phone was great when I had to cancel however... the 2 followup calls questioning why I canceled and (even thought I had to pay a fee for it so stop acting like you were scorned somehow) were unneccessary. So was the cancellation fee. The guy that used to come to fix my wiring and what not... also great but the fact that the wires YOU had installed at my place died after less than a year and were now financially my responsibility... bad form. Why is it that your service breaks down and your equipment fails but its teh customers problem? The fact that only hours after cancelling my service due to end on the 26th you decided to turn off my service anyway and tell me to call customer service... bad form. I know I will have to pay soem penalty or re-wiring fee for you to turn it back on so right now its been off for 2 almost 3 days. DirecTV you were such a mistake. Your company is run poorly and I hope your competitors do better than you so there is one less company gorging its consumers. read more

I would give this company zero stars but not an option. Had them for 12 years at our summer home on the vineyard and the dish quit working. They sent someone out May 3rd, but when they arrived we were told they are not allowed to go on roof where dish is located. Said it would have to be an outside contractor and reschedule for May 10th.. They never showed up for that appointment! Got a supervisor who apologized profusely and rescheduled for May 20th with priority status with assurances they would get a new dish on roof for us. They never showed up in spite of multiple text messages, just like before, that they were on their way. So it cost us six ferry rides with car to the vineyard at $168.00 for each round trip plus the loss of time driving down and waiting. I would never use these people - no matter what they promise, they do not deliver!!! read more

I just cant take it any long and I have to voice my opinion! The changes to the menu on DirecTV SUCK!!!! the format is so tiny. When you record something all of a sudden after a couple of days if you don't watch the program right away it disappears and then you search for it and it says it is on your play list but it is not listed unless you type it in. It seems you always have to go to the menu screen to control every channel and scroll for everything you want to do. Why didn't they leave well enough alone. The price you pay to watch just a few TV shows is crazy and now it is so hectic to find those TV shows. I wish I could have given ZERO STARS. read more

I see now I am not alone in my frustration with Direct TV. When my monthly bill went up, I called to ask why. They informed me I now had "free HBO and Showtime" yet if it's free why did my bill go up by $25? Then they said showtime was an extra charge. I then asked them to discontinue showtime and credit me because I never approved changing my packet. It took an hour and finally talking to the supervisor for them to delete showtime and credit me 3 months. The reality is they increased my old packet by $10. Added showtime for another $15 without notifying me. read more

I'm only giving a 1 because zero is not available. I recently canceled my service. I was supposed to get a refund last month. I just spent over an hour on the phone trying to get my refund. I was given several reasons for not getting my refund. One person said the check was mailed. Another said they never mail checks before saying that she would put a note to mail a check. One took a demeaning attitude because I was pressing for a refund of what she thought was a small amount. Direct TV is awful, and you will agree with me after I explain more about my experience. My husband and I just moved into a condo in Boston and because he bought the baseball package, we had to get Direct TV. During our first visit by a Direct TV employee, he evaluated the signal and space, and we found out that we needed to put the dish on the roof of our building. we weren't able to access the roof that day, so we had to reschedule someone to come out for a second visit. this is when it gets bad. During this second visit, the employee came and had to survey the space again, because no information had been passed on to him. He then proceeded to take 8 1/2 hours total to set up the TV. (came at 10am, left at 6:30pm). He spent most of the 8 hours on the roof of our building, causing my neighbors to stay in their apartment (with their two young children) for the entire day. He asked me to carry equipment up the stairs for him multiple times. The only reason i helped him is because i hoped it would speed him up! At one point, he left my building, telling my neighbors that he was going to get lunch (he did not tell me this) and then came back 1 1/2 hours later. Before he came back, I was vexed and i called him; he told me he went to pick up a special part for my dish (thanks for letting me know) and told me that I would need to get cinder blocks to hold the dish down (shouldn't that be there responsibility?) fortunately i had some extra floor tile that I carried up the stairs to the roof. A final indication of how bad this was - at 6pm, Direct TV called ME looking for him because he hadn't showed up to his other appointments. After this, as you can imagine, I called to complain. I spoke to a woman that must have been instructed to repeat the same phrase, no matter what the customer says, because after every complaint I made, she would say to me: "We cannot predict how long it will take to install your Direct TV..." But I'm sorry, 8 hours?! The only reason we still have Direct TV is because my husband paid for the baseball package, and I love him and cannot take this away from him. read more

I also was getting no reception in my office tv. I called they fixed it but the next day it was gone again. I have yet to call back. I made 2 appts to have Genie 2 installed. Now I'm stuck with them for the next two years, unless I opt out and pay a $20.00 per month penalty for the remainder of the contract. This is no way to treat a customer. Directv blows. Yes their rates are slightly less than cable but the overall experience is not worth switching. First off they contract internet out to Verizon so you're getting slow DSL. Second their "On Demand" service you have to wait to download the shows over your slow DSL connection. Additionally, we were thinking about switching back to cable so we called to see what they would do, if anything, to keep us. We were offered 3 months of HBO, SHO, Starz & Cinemax as well as the remainder of the NFL season Sunday Ticket. (This was October 2013). What was not explained was that by accepting this "offer" to stay we would be obligated to another 1 year contract. When I called to let them know we would be switching back to cable I was informed we would be billed a $140.00 early termination fee to get out of the 1 year contract we did not agree to. Not to mention the fact I now have a satellite dish on my roof that they won't take back. Do yourself a favor if you are thinking about going to Directv, don't. read more

If I cancel; they don't remove anything, I will have to do that. I'm not sure who provides great programming and superior customer service, b ut if you do let me know. I echo almost all the reviews on this site in regards to Direct TV. Their CS model is horrible and they would rather provide you a credit than try to listen or fix your issue with their CS offering. Here is my experience..... One Sunday 10/26 I turned on my TV and found that the receiver indicated there was an issue that I needed to call CS for. I called and this is what happened: I spoke to one person (somewhere out of the country) who was very nice but continued to upsell me while trying to diagnose my problem. I found this annoying and told the person many times, at which time she immediately sent my call to someone else. While going over my entire issue again with the next person (she had no turnover notes so I had to re-explain everything again) she accidently hung up on me - at least that what it seemed like because I was speaking with her and then the phone went dead and after 2 minutes I heard the on hold music. I hung on the line for 5 more minutes and then hung up and called again. After calling back, I received a new rep that made me explain all of my issues again and finally just offered me a $5.00 "go away" offer. I found this insulting and told her I was extremely dissatisfied with the entire process and then I hung up and sent this e-mail.......... I have been a loyal customer since 2004 paid my bill on time my service was not working I called I spoke to three different people the last person inadvertently hung up on me when I called back the best you guys could do is give me a five dollar credit. NFL package cost over $300 a year one week of lost coverage is worth more than five dollars hanging up and wasting my time online is worth more then five dollars you guys have a bad model.
