My husband and I were actively interviewing and searching (2024) for an honest general contractor for a whole house remodel (1 story). We met with Yonatan from Direct Home Remodeling the beginning of April 2024. We felt great about the initial meeting, and he was in the running because after he reviewed our full set plans, Yonatan gave us a ballpark quote of like $580k - $620k (rough material and build not including finished materials). Yonatan told us he would be out of town for a week. However, we did schedule to discuss a proposed bid on May 5th at 1pm. Yonatan never showed up, no text, no email, not a word (it's so easy to send a text). After 45 minutes my husband emailed him, and he responded the next day. We were thinking maybe something bad happened. He claimed since we did not respond to his email right away back in April 2024 (his email went into my junk mail) regarding the 12' ceiling (which it states on the front page of the plans) that he thought the meeting wasn't going to happen. Interesting because I replied 2 days before the meeting, and he replied to that. In Yonatan's reply he stated that he didn't realize the ceilings were 12' ft high and the proposed bid would be $1.6M to $1.8M. He then went on to ask if this bid is still of interest then let's meet (he did not apologize for the no show). This is ridiculous - from around $600K to $1.8M-ish with no finishings. He is basically saying $1M+ extra for 12in ceilings?!!! Since then, we met with better more honest contractors and received reasonable bids that have great reviews and projects (one working on Google employee's homes). read more

We had some mold growing on a bathroom-adjacent wall and soon realized we'd need to do major work in the bathroom to find and fix the water damage causing it. Not to be trusted. In 2018, this company did repairs for my parents' at their home in Pacifica. They took advantage of my parents' age (over age 80), specifically my mom who had some cognitive issues. At first this company, called me to introduce themselves and shared the law that they were supposed notify a family member anytime a change to the original contract was made. Well, this did not happen. I was that contact yet they never called me about additional work that was added. Since I live out of state, I could not be on scene to keep watch on the crews. However, the neighbors all told me about their issues with the teams that were sent to do the work. They did shoddy work and left a mess under the ramp that they built (this I personally saw). One neighbor ended up with damage to his personal property from the team that did the shoddy concrete work. I might have written a review previously but this needed to be said again. read more

Our master bathroom toilet and shower area is through a door that keeps it separate from the double vanity. We knew we needed to remodel because we felt some "give" in the floor in the toilet/shower area; we were pretty sure it was due to dry rot close to the shower entrance. We received estimates from a total of 4 companies, but we felt best about the one we received from Al at DHR. Al was very open with how they would approach the project, what the expected costs would be, and what types of changes and/or cost increases we might see if there was indeed dry rot under the floor. But he also offered some great design ideas for how we might improve the look of our shower area -- simple things like lighting, and upgrades to the medicine cabinet and mirror. No one else we received estimates from offered any design suggestions... they just quoted what they thought it would cost to tear out the old and put in new versions of the same thing. Since I'm writing this, we obviously selected DHR. But when it came time to sign the contract, Al informed us that he wouldn't be our Project Manager for the rest of the project. He had been promoted (which I'm sure he deserved), but it meant that he'd be moving out of our area. Enter Ohad. Ohad came by one day to introduce himself, along with Rudy, who would be the foreman for the day-to-day work on the project. We immediately felt comfortable with both of them, and so we had them start the project almost immediately. To make a long story short, they did indeed find dry rot under the shower entry area -- all the way through to a joist below the sub-floor. But DHR did a fantastic job of replacing and reinforcing the damaged areas, and I believe the area is stronger than when it was new. Once that work was done, things progressed quickly. Our new shower and floor tile looks fantastic, and the new counter top, mirror and lighting in the vanity area looks even better than we thought it would. We of course hit a few speed bumps along the way, but nothing significant. And in every case, Ohad worked with us to resolve them quickly and to our satisfaction. As I write this, we are still waiting for our shower door. The COVID-19 shelter-in-place hit before we could order one. But we were able to place the order last week, and we expect the door to arrive in the next few days. In the meantime, we're using a shower rod and curtain. The bottom line is that we will happily call DHR again if and when we need remodeling done in our house. read more

I had a great experience with Direct Home Remodeling, especially working with Dor Morali, the project manager. I was impressed by how thorough and detail-oriented Dor was when going over the initial scope of work I wanted done in my home. I had received multiple other bids and met with project managers from other companies at this point. Dor was by far the most meticulous and knowledgeable, pointed out details others had missed, and spent the most time addressing my concerns and answering my questions. In the end, I chose to work with DHR for these reasons, and I'm glad I did. The first project was a master and half bathroom remodel consisting of tile work on the floors and walls, new sinks and vanities, and a new shower door install. Dor helped me pick out some of the materials and gave advice on the tile layout for the remodel. The workers showed up on time, were courteous, and Dor managed the entire project perfectly. I had not yet moved in at this point, and due to work constraints, I was not able to be on-site during their work hours most of the time. Dor kept me updated and everything was finished on schedule without any issues. The foreman, Walter, also deserves a shoutout here. After the first project was completed, I decided to work with them again to have my kitchen countertops replaced. Dor managed this project for me while I was on vacation, and the project was finished once I came back. Dor and his team completed all the touch-ups during our final walkthrough, and I was able to move in immediately afterwards. Overall, I would definitely recommend working with Dor and DHR. I agreed to what I thought might be a 20k project (because price was never discussed), only to find out when cancelling the contract that it would be 100k+... WHAT??!! Why this wasn't communicated is beyond me, as the other contractors I've spoke with have been very transparent and up front about everything right away. I'd also like to note that they took our debit card info on paper instead of running it through any kind of device (cmon, it's 2020) and if that was lost, anyone would have free reign on using the info. Before reaching out to DHR, I had contacted 4 other contractors and found difficultly to get good response (some of them stopped communicating suddenly), but when I met IB (our project manager) for estimation, I felt I could finally find a right contractor, and that my first impression was right! - Fast and clear estimation - Clear explanation on what to be done, when - On schedule - Professional workers, teamwork - Meticulous work - Make sure whether the client is satisfied with the work - Cleaning after the project IB came to the site every day to check everything was on the right track. I hired DHR for a 3 month home remodeling project that ended up taking 10 months for them to complete. Throughout the project: - They routinely demanded payments prior to completing the work necessary for those payments. - On one occasion, when demanding a payment prematurely, they walked off the project without notice and refused to return to complete the work for nearly 3 months. - When returning to complete the project, they worked only 1 or 2 days per week, needlessly dragging out the project. The managers didn't seem able to control when their workers would show up to work, and refused to bring in other workers to complete the project faster. - Several times, they turned off our hot water or heating furnace, and forgot to turn it back on. - Attempted to overcharge us on numerous items throughout the project. For example: Include the patching of a hole in the wall, add $490. Remove a hole patch from the scope, $100 refund. Intentional lack of transparency regarding pricing so that they could take advantage of the customer. - Also attempted to push about $20,000 of unnecessary changes on us. - When it came time to do so, refused to install my kitchen cabinets at our agreed-upon price. Also refused to fabricate and install my quartz countertops. Provided an inadequate refund for both. I ended up losing quite a bit of money finding another contractor to do those things instead. - Overcharged me on making project plans that were then largely ignored. Did not perform structural calculations as required. Repeatedly ignored performing certain project elements, sometimes resulting in damages that had to be corrected later. - Did not provide a materials list as promised, forcing numerous last-minute scrambles for materials. - Did not provide 3D renderings of design as promised. - Dumped cement and paint all over my back yard multiple times. - Left debris from the demolition on my property for over 6 months, which on one occasion resulted in physical injury. - Stole my personal building materials for their own use. I picked this company for my project because they said they prided themselves in having great project management and providing excellent service to their customers. We experienced water damage due to a burst pipe that required quick work to repair drywall. We were stuck without hot water until the work could be completed. While other contractors required a long lead time and/or quoted us more than expected to get the work done quickly, Al was quick to respond, quick to act and very fair with his pricing. And the quality of the repair work was excellent. We also explored a remodeling job with Al for parts of our home. While we ultimately decided not to complete that work at this time, we received a very reasonable quote from Al, enjoyed working with him, and have him at the top of our list if we decide to do that work in the future. These contractors start by calling and saying they are doing work for a neighbor in your area (old scam but it still works). Fast talking, slick tonged, persistent and rude when they are questioned. When asked for business license they refer you to their web site. Like a used car lot after the first call a second person calls. When asked what neighbor they hide behind confidentiality concerns. If they are so concerned they should not put it out there. When confronted with the fact that no neighbor is having work done they rudely hang up. Be wary of cold calls. read more

Found these guys through a family member and It was worth every cent. Worked with the project manager, Rob and I can say everything went completely smooth. We probably had 4-5 conversations and he worked out everything else for me. These guys work HARD. The remodel was scheduled almost right away and workers arrived early everyday. The whole thing was finished in two weeks. My bathroom wall has some cracks and other damages but now it looks brand new almost like an art museum. With my last remodel, the wall panels were uneven and not cemented properly but thanks to direct home, the walls are smooth and perfect. Great service, great workers. They presented an entirely different layout for my bathroom than I had ever considered, and after tweaking it a little to make it my own I have been amazed with how it opened up and modernized my bathroom. Actually, this is a fine idea, but it's not what was sold over the phone. Then the references S*** hit the fan. No references unless we committed to do the design work. WTF? really? And, oh, the references aren't local to Saratoga. in fact, they're nowhere close. Looking at YELP, most of the positive reviews are SoCal. If you're in the Bay Area, I advise you to keep looking. Direct Home Remodeling did not provide the highest or lowest quotes, however, Dor provided the most thorough initial scope of work. The work performed is beautiful. They handled the permits and everything very professionally. Dor and or Jonathan checked on us daily during the project. Dor was very responsive and I referred the company to family and friends. I had a great experience working with DHR. I especially enjoyed working with our Project Manager, Julian. He listened to and delivered on my design ideas and also brought ideas of his own to the table-ideas that enhanced my project structurally and aesthetically. The workers were always prompt and courteous. They also completed the project, which consisted of redoing the driveway with pavers and brick, completely redoing the brick planters, installing bricks on the outer staircase, and painting the house, pretty quickly. I think the project from start to finish took no more than three weeks. I was pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend DHR for your remodeling needs. Amazing communication and service! I had Ami help me understand what I thought was a foundation issue which then turned out to be just a drainage issue (thank goodness). He had excellent advice, ensured all questions were answered, and ultimately completed a gorgeous paver project for me in record time. I had 2 other companies come out first before him, both of which told me to do completely different things that made no sense and quoted me $60k! Neither of them tried to solve the problem before quoting me a price and telling me to do work I didn't need. Ami figured out the problem before doing anything. To start I found direct home remodeling via Yelp and I'm so happy I found them. Jake came over and checked out the kitchen and suggested a couple ideas to do. We both agreed on a plan and started shortly after. The kitchen took around 5 weeks start to finish and I was really happy with his team and his office. Showed up on time, did work as promised, were able to accommodate a change order. Of course, they tried to upsell but that's expected. What's not expected is being punctual and deliver well. Not many contractors around here can do that. I must add what they provided great service on a relatively small order. Many contractors have rather high minimal limit but these guys were able to help us out. read more
