Dio deka has fantastic ambience but for a $$$ restaurant I was a little disappointed in the quality of their food. We got two Moussaka and both were not as impressive as we had hoped. Evvia has tastier and more authentic Moussaka. Dio Deka was basically a heap of ground beef with a little eggplant. The branzino was good and our steak was also quite good. What was missing was that the steak came without any sides. Appetizers were tiny albeit really impressive in quality and taste. Overall, it was good but not impressive. We have been a few times before and the food is always great. Tonight we loved our server, "the Italian guy" he said to call him. The night started with us bringing in a 1981 Bordeaux for my 40th birthday. Our Italian waiter said he was a little worried about crumbling the cork but had a technique his mother taught him... and amazingly he pulled out a fully intact cork and decanted. After that we had an amazing meal. The dry aged ribeyes were seared and well crusted on the outside, while medium rare throughout. Nice and salty crust complimented the aged/flavorful interior. Our amazing service continued with a great presentation of armagnac with dessert, and a few extras brought over. Despite an amazing meal and one of the best steaks I have had, the most amazing feat was our waiter pulling that cork totally intact from our 40 year old Bordeaux. Fantastic service, ambiance, and overall experience. However, the food wasn't fantastic. We had Lamb Meatballs to start, Tzatziki, Spanakotiropita, and Moussaka Casserole. The tzatziki and spanakopita were great but the other dishes were heavy and lacked flavor. The Mediterranean Branzino wasn't available that night but we were looking forward to trying it. 7/27/18 Michelin Starred 2011 through... *drum roll* ...2012. Let that set the tone. I suppose if I didn't know they had such a mark of greatness in the past I would have expected less. Such is the curse of Michelin that plagues many restaurants, not just this one. But since it is true, and I do know, there clearly is an air of has-been here as the food could have been so much more, but just isn't. The service has the seedlings of greatness, but now is now hidden under the aging canopy. I did love that the restaurant is well integrated into the classic hotel, and very much reminded me of Greece complete with traditional guitar and singers in the courtyard, and fountains a-plenty. But unfortunately, the food also took us back. Yes, "unfortunately." Let's be honest--Greece will never be a culinary center. Yes, just speaking with locals in Greece will be met with gushing praise of their cuisine and restaurants. But straight up--we went to quite a variety, touristy and not, and nope. Nothing particularly special in preparation or complexity, with very few exceptions (like their epic seafood.) And well, I was hoping the owners would choose to add some extra international flair or at least some technical ingenuity. Unfortunately, they fell short, but at least most was well cooked... 1. Glass of Chardonnay, Hanzell, 'Sebella', Sonomay Valley, California, U.S.A., 2016 $15 2. Tuna Tartare and Mango (my name) Amuse Bouche: Well, that's nice! I love it when they do these little "free" snacks. Could have been a bit better tasting though--the phyllo was underwhelming and a bit dry. Also could not taste the tuna. 5/10 3. Octopus $16 "mesquite grilled octopus, lemon, olive oil, oregano": I'd have to say, it was at least beautiful. Execution though could have been better as the meat was too soft and lost texture, a sign of over-cooking. The char was great though. 6.5/10 4. Baked Lamb Meatballs $16 "ouzo-tomato sauce, fresh myzithra cheese": Presentation was ODD. Looked like a penis with balls. Actually, a penis, complete with balls, drying naked in the air as the sauce had that dry sheen indicating it was sitting out for a while. At least it tasted fine. Succulent and herbal. The fresh myzithra cheese was super light. My gf thought the fennel was over-the-top though. 7/10 5. Dorade (whole fish of the day) $38 "mesquite grilled, lemon, fennel and herb stuffed": What can I say?--if there's one thing Greek DO cook well, it's fish (well, I'd have said octopus too, but ha ha, they didn't do so hot on that.) The fish though... PERFECTLY grilled. The surface was perfectly charred with an amazing crust. The flesh was succulent. Herbs abound. It don't get no better than this. 9/10 6. Lamb Chops (Full) $56 "double-cut, all-natural & free range from Southern regions of Australia, olive oil crushed potatoes, Cipollini onions": Warning--"full" doesn't mean "full rack." It's 3 chops. But that said, they're really meaty chops, so maybe that wasn't awfully misleading. As for the chops, they were classic. Great finish, and cooked perfectly. The meat was obviously hight quality too as it was so tender. UNFORTUNATELY, it was served lukewarm. God, Dio Deka, come on... you had a near 9'er there. You can't serve steaks cold! 7/10 7. Burnt Butter Orzo, Myzithra Cheese $10: I don't even know how to describe how SUBLIME this is! So simple--just pasta rice, butter, cheese.... but HOLY MUTHA this'll get me so pig fat if I had this in my fridge stocked. F'in good. 10/10 8. Seasonal Sauteed Greens $10: Well, it is what it says it is--sauteed leaves. Kinda like spinach but not. 5/10 9. Grecian Sunrise $12 "aphrodite ouzo, fresh orange juice, & a splash of grenadine": Wow is that ouzo strong! Like a Greek absinthe. I loved it though--that licorice taste (Which I normally hate) goes oh so well with the sweet citrus. 8/10 10. Cucumber Melon Soup (my name) Amuse Bouche: It's vegan. Like a fruity V8 with lots of cucumber and sweet melon up front. Great palate cleanser. 8/10 11. Sokolatina $13 "manjari flourless chocolate cake, caramelia mousse, strawberry, pistachio and vanilla chantilly": Simply gorgeous. And simply not good. The mousse was strangely grainy. My gf, who is near graduation from culinary school, calls it "broken." Something went horribly wrong. Shouldn't have made it out of the kitchen. 3/10 12. Coffee and Tea Service, Sketo $5: Now, I don't even know what to do with this one. It was like drinking mud, with a couple tablespoons of sediment on the bottom. Was the machine broken? 3/10 13. And the last Amouse Bouche... Greek Yogurt Bon Bons!: Loved these, especially being even somewhat savory with non-sweetened Greek yogurt cheese in that white chocolate shell, with honey. The front of the house, the service is fantastic- warm, efficient, and attentive. The food is delicious as well - presentation is lovely. We had the grilled octopus, trio of dips (with gluten free accommodations!), lamb chops, and sautéed Swiss chard. It was the perfect Greek menu! Honestly cannot recall ever having a more perfect grilled octopus. Next time will come back for the branzino and Greek salad! Excellent accommodations for gluten free. Why 4 stars instead of 5? One of the best meals I've had. Ambiance and staff are on point. I had the pork loin and it was cooked perfectly with a nice crust and herb flavors throughout. I had a bite of the filet mignon which was heaven. Again, perfectly cooked and prepared. Came here for an anniversary dinner. This place is pretty fancy. They don't have high chairs. Generally not a kid-friendly place. We are new parents without family in the area, so we brought our baby in the carseat with us. They did seem a bit taken back that we brought a baby, but they gave us a booth where we could rest the carseat on. Luckily baby slept through dinner (hallelujah~). The food is superb! My absolute favorite was the scallops. It's quite fancy with some kind of seafoody foam. It was so flavorful. The scallops were perfectly cooked. I would go back just to eat those again! read more

We had the pleasure of dining at Dio Deka last Saturday and Sunday evening. We were staying at Hotel Los Gatos and had a reservation for Sunday but decided to see if we could get in on Saturday last minute... even though they were very busy... they squeezed us in. I heard wonderful things about Chef Kevin and I couldn't wait to dine here and he didn't disappoint!! Both nights our experience at this charming restaurant was excellent! Starting from Service... Saturday with Jeremy and Sunday with Daniele. Both took very good care of us and both went over and beyond. The food, wine & cocktails were absolutely Amazing! Some of my favorites- Starters Warm pita bread - Yum! Grilled Octopus - very flavorful and tender, not chewy. Craving it right now! Scallops- perfectly cooked and delicious. Crab Cake - I am not a fan of crab cakes. The few times I have had them they are so dry and bland, but not this one! You actually taste the crab and tastes so fresh. Delicious! Village Salad - I ordered both nights. So refreshing with chilled cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, bell pepper, olives, and a block of feta... I know it's just a salad, but it's the best! For the Main course - Airline Chicken - Mary's chicken - so tender and with great flavor. Osso Buco - I heard this was Chef Kevin's Grandma's recipe. I didn't try it but my Hubby said it was 5 stars Truffle Burger - I did try this one and it has to be one of the best burgers I've ever had!! Tons of flavor! As for the desserts... Special occasion dinner - hubby's bday! the food was delicious. Top ingredients, prepared simply, seasoned to perfection. The filet was the best ever and we've enjoyed filet mignon at Alexander's steakhouse, Forbes Mills, etc. This was hands down the most tender, perfected grilled (rare) with a nice sear on the outside. The amuse bouche was a potato crisp, creme frachie, dill and smoked salmon. Wonderful! There is also a palette cleanser of a smoked gazpacho between starters and entrees. The lattes are also very robust and flavorful, the perfect end to a delicious meal. The service is also top notch throughout, from the warm welcome to the attentiveness throughout. We came as a group of 4 to celebrate a number of milestones in our lives (job promotions, getting married, birthdays for 2 of us). It was a big deal! We even planned for this outing by going to Costco and getting 3 $79.99 for $100 gift cards in anticipation for this meal. So, it is kind of a bummer to say that I was pretty disappointed by Dio Deka and the food here. The flavors were pretty underwhelming given their price point and history of being awarded Michelin stars. I'll elaborate below: We ordered the following: Octopus appetizer: A little too tender and mushy. It didn't have that bite and chewiness that fresh seafood offers. SOO disappointing! Saganaki: the fried feta cheese was quite crispy and the farro underneath had lots of texture and flavor. The beets were also tasty. This was a good pick! Baby back ribs: this was a hefty appetizer and while the ribs tasted like ribs from anywhere else (no distinction that it was Mediterranean spiced), the sour cherry pistachio compote was amazing and was sooo perfect when paired with the saganaki (Hey chef, this could be a dish by itself!) Baked lamb meatballs: this was also just OK. Nothing mind-blowing or flavorful. It was a lamb meatball in tomato sauce with some cheese on top. Lamb chops: these are the largest lamb chops I have ever seen in my life and I was only able to eat one. I didn't finish this dish because it was gigantic, but mostly because it was poorly seasoned. Lamb is supposed to have a gamey taste to it, but when it is well-seasoned, it is delicious. Otherwise it's just bland and gamey-- which was how I experienced it. I kept trying to find pieces of garlic to pair with each bite of lamb; or I would try to integrate each bite with potatoes and onions-- but it was still pretty tasteless and gamey. Again, SO disappointing! Osso bucco: this was way more flavorful than the lamb chops-- presentation was also beautiful with the veggies and root vegetable mash on the bottom. This was my second favorite entree of the night. 24 oz bone-in rib-eye: this was AMAZING. Tender, flavorful, and absolutely gigantic. If you choose to swing $85 for a piece of steak, this should be it. We also had fried potatoes and creamed spinach on the side, and they were wonderful compliments to this dish. This was hands-down my favorite entree of the night! Pork chop: I can't describe this because I didn't taste it. My friend however, said it was neither tender nor juicy. She also said it lacked flavor by itself and kept trying to scrape the decorative sauce onto her pork chop to get any bit of flavor into her meal. Sokalatina dessert: We all opted for the flourless chocolate cake, thanks to our server's recommendation and we were impressed. I am not a huge chocolate lover and even I was in love with the moistness of our cake and the light sweetness of the chocolate mousse. Delicious!! (We had 2 birthdays and yet only one of us had a candle on our dessert) For 4 people and no drinks, our bill came to $370 without tip, so that's an example of how much you pay here when sharing appetizers and desserts. Service was impeccable with the exception of missing a birthday wish for one of our guests. But all in all, our meal was inconsistently seasoned with some dishes terribly disappointing while others were amazingly delicious. 2.5 STARS I'm seriously geographically challenged. As I was getting ready for dinner this past Friday, my friend asked if I had any plans for the night. I sent her the Yelp link to Dio Deka. L: "WTH! You guys are driving over an hour for dinner?!?!" Me: "Huh? Los Altos is only about 30 minutes away." L: "Los Gatos IS past San Jose, dear". Apparently, I mistakened Los Gatos for Los Altos. Hey, Jessica Simpson would have made the same mistake. We're both blondes, OK? Trying to broaden my foodie horizons out of my 7 mile by 7 mile confines, I wanted to pick not just any restaurant for date night but a Michelin starred one. Dio Deka seemed promising. Of over 18,000 restaurants in the Bay Area, only 39 are Michelin starred with Dio Deka being one of them. Dio Deka is also the only Greek restaurant in US to have a Michelin star. I can sum up our dinner experience at Dio Deka in one short sentence: A $260 DISAPPOINTMENT. Dio Deka wasn't absolutely terrible but it wasn't great either. It lacked finesse and refinement that one would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. There were more misses than hits with the food (there was a chef change in January 2011 right after Dio Deka received their Michelin star), service, and ambiance. On the plus side, free valet parking is offered courtesy of the Los Gatos Hotel. Our waitress was very sweet but was MIA in the middle of dinner service chatting with the hostesses up front (who were sitting down on stools). While we were waiting for the check, she was too busy chatting with the table in back of us...for over 15 minutes which feels like an eternity when you're in a food and wine comatose. A M B I A N C E / D E C O R Most reminiscent to the popular Kokkari in San Francisco, Dio Deka is spacious with a contemporary country rustic feel with wooden furnishings, a fireplace and an open kitchen. After the YEE Julie K made reservations (smart lady!!) and several of us ended up here. To answer your questions 1. Yes.. we were the last ones to leave 2. Yes.. the service was fantastic 3.Yes... the food was phenomenal Sarah deserves some kind of raise or a huge pat on the back. As our main server she totally answered all questions we had about the food options, helped with wine choice and described the food as we were being served AND most importantly.. dealt with us and all our shenanigans.. which since there were only 8 SBCers was relatively painless. At the YEE we had most of the appetizers.... which were fantastic. I ended up continuing in small plate fashion and got the Ktenia appetizer (scallops). Those had a perfect crust and were like buttah!! The mission fig, micro greens and prosciutto dust definitely enhanced the flavor. I also got the Ntomatosoupa (tomato soup). It was hearty and chunky.. which when paired with their naan like bread was killer. This brings me to my next point.. the bread. Freshly made, hot and with a charred side NOM NOM NOM NOM. My plus one got the salmon dish which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also got the Roka salad which was gone in what seemed like seconds. I also go to sample 1. mushroom side- no complaints from me 2. Octapothi Scharas- Best octopus I have had in forever. Totally tender!! 3. Moussakas- Great texture and the lamb was perfect What I want save for last is the desserts. Towards the end of the meal Chef Fitzgerald came out and talked to us for a good ten minutes or so and answered all our questions about what we ate... and then .. how convenient.. DESSERT menu!! My question "What do you recommend?" At the end of the table we had been talking about going to Dolce Spazio down the street for dessert but after hearing/seeing our options here we decided to stay ( SECOND BEST IDEA of the night!!) Magically the following appeared: 1. Yiaourti: You have not had Greek yogurt until you try this.. one of the favorites among the group. Totally refreshing. 2. Baklava: One of the tastiest Baklavas I have had. The bruleed banana, the citrus syrup and banana gelato NOM! 3. Milopita: Warm honey crisp apple tart tatin, vanilla bean gelato and sauce caramel... delicious 4. Sokolatina: "You had me at molten lava cake..wait.. did I say that aloud??" - Quote from yelper. 5. Pan Cotta.. made with Buttermilk... that was also a highlight of the group.. rumor has it someone is getting a tattoo of it on their forearm. We came in for dinner and both of us had issues with food. Wine was good! Starting with salad it was ordered without croutons and without dressing. Salad came with croutons and dressing...who dropped the ball we do not know. Our server replaced the salad, but we were waiting... Entries-ordered branzino and requested replace potatoes with veggies. You are correct - an order came with potatoes. Again an order was replaced, but it took time and we cannot start eating. Second order - two lamb chops. Meat was not seasoned. For the price paid you would expect perfectly seasoned meat. One chop was okay, second undercooked. Sent lamb chop back to kitchen, got a replacement...and it was undercooked again. Gave up and will not go back. Maybe food was great years ago, not anymore. Go some place else. read more

NYE prix fixe dinner for 2, $105ea - Ambiance (4/5) Nothing about particularly screams Greek, though it is warm and cozy. - Service (2/5) Considering the upscale nature Dio Deka is going for, I was disappointed in the service. If you're going to be haughty about dress code, then I expect a coat check perhaps, a more cordial hostess, and servers who spend more time explaining the food rather than dropping it off (in some cases literally dropping it) on the table. - Bread (3/5) Fairly good though some olive oil would have been good. - Crispy Quail (2/5) A fairly big disappointment. When the menu says crispy quail, the first thing that comes to mind is not fried quail. I was imagining a really nice sear with some crispy skin. Frankly, the fried treatment kind of ruined the quail. - Chestnut Soup (3/5) I didn't think there was any flavor development here- mostly just pureed, semi-chalky chestnut texture. The tang from the Greek yogurt was a nice touch that broke up the monotony of the soup, and the porcini mushrooms provided a nice relief of texture and salt. But, the chalk just could not be overcome. - Lamp Chops (2/5) Mine was burnt on the outside and not seasoned at all. My wife's were practically raw (not even rare) and needed to be sent back. The sauce on the plate was really sour, and there was nothing to offset it. And a few fried potatoes? Come on now... - Almond-Chocolate Cake (3/5) Not a bad ending, though frankly, I found this dessert to be a glorified brownie a la mode. The supposed banana creme on the plate also had no banana flavor whatsoever. - Value (2/5) Fairly poor value considering the mistakes in each of the dishes. Frankly, it felt kind of amateurish. - Final Word Felt like I was eating at a traditional place that was trying really hard to execute good food but was kind of stuck in a different era. Nothing wildly creative and most of the dishes had some major flaw in it. I might give it another go with their usual menu, but this experience was quite off-putting. Usually restaurants at hotels are run of the mill and cater to the hotel customers who are captive and just need something convenient. Dio Deka is NOT that. They serve high quality food in a nice environment. They have been on my list for a while and finally got to eat there last night as I caught up with a friend. We sat by the bar since we did not have a reservation but they serve the full restaurant menu so that worked out. The ambiance is upscale and cozy. They have patio seating as well and had a live jazz band which was cool. Everything I had was pretty good. Started with the chocolate martini which was yummy and then switched to the Greek Mojito which was refreshing. The warm pita bread they served as an appetizer was good too. I had the spanakopita which was all right, wished it had more filling but the presentation was nice. The osso bucco was really good but wish I had a little more meat in it. Closed things out with the sokalatina (chocolate cake) which was an excellent way to wrap up the meal. Overall good meal despite my nits. Service was mixed. Free valet for dinner guests! Warning: this review will be long, have grammatical errors and may contain run on sentences!! Valet is on the hotel side of the establishment, which is split in two. The restrooms are located in the hotel. The design is beautiful, cozy rustic edges and decor that satisfies the eyes. Dim as warm lighting both in the hotel and restaurant. Dined here for the first time with my boss and business developer to celebrate our 1 year anniversary since opening a new start up in San Jose. We had last years' Christmas company party upstairs and to or relief, the catered food doesn't come anywhere close to the food in the restaurant. We started off with the ahi and brussels sprouts. Both dishes were tasteful and filled with flavor. Probably the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had. The texture was crisp and the bite was perfect, not undercooked and not over cooked...perfection! My boss recommend that I order the branzino, he's a regular here and said that he orders it each time. I'm pescatarian and I had browsed the menu a couple days earlier and leaned towards the branzino, so I was sold. Both my boss and business developer ordered the fish or the day which happened to be halibut. Let me tell you. The branzino was out of this world. It arrived on a bed of delicious spinach, and the most flavorful potatoes, perfectly cooked. I love potatoes and didn't think I can love eating them more, but my God! Yum!! The spinach was well portioned and cooked to perfection, not soggy nor overwhelming in flavor: perfect! The branzino arrived with two filets, grazed with the perfect amount of sauce. It was lovely, and I enjoyed every bite, I even had enough to take home and eat for today's lunch. I asked if the halibut was good, and both my boss and business developer said that it was surprisingly slightly overcooked (yikes!). It arrived in a deep bowl with potatoes and sauce at the bottom. The photos show how beautiful the halibut arrived, it wasn't as juicy or tender as it looks. They were not as satisfied as I was with my meal. That is I docked 1 star from having a 5 star rating. Lastly, we topped off our dinner with the beignet. WOOOOWOOWOWOWOOWOW they really like to show off!!!! I've had my share of beignets but damn! Again, haven't had them as good as this place makes them! When our server came around, we joked that they were horrible and that we needed a second order cooked the same way for the bad batch haha. Really, they are so good!! The atmosphere is classy and relaxed. There was a mixed crowd from business colleagues, date night, and even a family of 6. This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or if your wallet just allows you to spurge. The hostess at the front desk smiled and was pleasant and welcoming. Came for our Christmas date night sans kiddos. Located inside hotel but definitely surpasses expectations for a hotel restaurant. Very nicely appointed, staff and decor. We came for a group dinner as we had stayed in the Los Gatos hotel. We took several steak options. Fillet was juicy but the New York strip came cold and over cooked. There was also no waitress to help out. Overall, very disappointing relative to the price...won't come back ! There are better places down town read more

Excellent, intimate, and stellar service Visited for Christmas Eve Dinner and our party of six thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was intimate and the restaurant is beautifully designed, albeit a tad loud. Liz took care of our family of six and was remarkable, along with the rest of the service crew that kept our meal on-track and our table clean. While the theme is fine Greek food, I'd advise that Dio Deka would be more "nuveau" Greek. There are some Greek staples, such as haloumi, saganaki, loukoumathes, and baklava. The branzino (sea bass) and the osso bucco seemed to be more an Italian/Milanese style. A minor point overall, since it was all very good and a Mediterranean lineage. For desserts, we had the Kerasi and previously mentioned loukoumathes, and baklava. Definitely try the Kerasi-- a amaretto cherry, cream, and white chocolate beauty made in the shape of a plum-sized cherry you crack open. It was memorable! Was eating dinner at the bar and noticed that the portion size of EVERYTHING was one-half or less (! the salmon I had before was a full piece of salmon filet; this visit it was 3/4's smaller - was a one-inch wide, maybe 2.5 inch long -- appetizer size of salmon versus what it had been the last visit maybe 2 or 3 weeks before, but the tiny portions of everything were full price! True of the red wine, appetizers, and dinner salad! So really on the Salmon, I got about 1/4 of the prior serving for full price of a whole filet! Completely unacceptable and I am owed a significant refund and will not be back while these appetizer-size portions -- billed out at full price -- are being served for dinner. Unacceptable, untrustworthy, unprofessional, usury, and cheap! Beneath your brand! I am a long-time customer and was one of your first customers when you opened "back in the day". I hope you remedy this post haste.... My last review of your restaurant's food I think was 5 stars -- quite a fall! read more

I've been here twice, once when they first opened, and again in March for my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised by the meal and would return again for a special occasion. I really like the ambiance of Dio Deka. The dining room is spacious but not too large, with a beautiful fireplace on the far wall. Some of the highlights of our meal included: -Spanakotiropita (phyllo pastry filled with spinach, scallions, and feta cheese) -Ktenia (scallops with lemon puree) -Paithakia (lambchops): My friend absolutely loves lamb, and she said that this was one of the best lamb chops she's ever had. -Solomos (salmon with lemon-caper relish) The restaurant is also located in Hotel Los Gatos, which is a great place for taking pictures before or after dinner! read more

Dio Dekka was very good. What held back its fifth star is that it lacked a bit of character and failed to capture some of the exclusivity of the top tier Evvia and Kokkari. The service was very very very good. One notch away from super excellent. Our server was a bit on the energetic side but after the initial interaction service was prompt and unobtrusive. The food was 9/10. The octopus was expertly prepared and my lamb chops were ultra tender and ultra flavorful. I was slightly underwhelmed by my girlfriends sea bass though, and I noticed there are several fish options on the menu so I suppose I'd be weary of them. Prices were very reasonable for such a great experience. 2 entrees, 2 apps, and a $35 corking fee was a moderate $155. Easier to get into than Evvia or Kokkari and offers 85% of the experience. Had dinner here in Oct on a Friday night. Boy was it busy! We even had trouble squeezing over to the bar to order our drinks while waiting for our table (already in the reservation list). It was hard to get a sense of how the economy took a toll on a lot of people's lives while eating here. On the wine list, we ordered the only two Greek wines: 2008 Santorini Asirtiko Hatzigiannis, Aegean Islands (white) and 2007 Nemea Agiorgitiko Tselepso 'Driopi', Peloponnesus (red). Both were earthy, medium body with intense flavors. Delicious. Our waiter did a good job going through the menu with us and pointed us to the most popular dishes on each section of the menu. For appertizers, he recommended grilled ocotopus and for main dish he recommended lamb. We finally decided on grilled octopus (Octapothi Scharas) for appertizer and Japanese Mero (Rofos) and slow braised lamb shank (Arni Kotsi) for entrees. The appertizer was OK. The octopus was chunky with a strong scent of lemon juice, but the flavors did not soak into the octopus, which made the sauce and the meat seperatable. The Japanese Mero had a nice texture with a thick cut, but it seemed the cook was a bit frugal on the use of salt. The lamb shank was also just OK, it was not soft enough but the portion was huge with a thick layer of risotto at the bottom of the dish. If I had to rate, I would say the service was better than the food. While we were waiting for our food to come, our waiter noticed that we ran out of olives and filled my special order of green olives only. During our entire meal, our waiter came to check on us about 3-4 times, which gave us enough attention but not overly hovering. read more

Was very excited to go to this place - highly recommended by a fellow Greek. Every aspect of the front and back house is slightly off - especially compared to Evvia in Palo Alto. The waitstaff isn't as experienced, the place is slightly too packed and the food is not quite there. The octopus is not quite tenderized enough and all the dishes lack the explosive flavor you would hope for at a high price point. I've heard good things about this place, but my experience here a few weeks ago was frankly disappointing. My boyfriend and I came here for a date night and we were sat down pretty quickly. We both ordered drinks first, which honestly was probably the best part of our meal (the drinks weren't anything SPECTACULAR either...). My boyfriend ordered the duck and I ended up ordering the filet mignon with a side of garlic & rosemary fries. The fries came out first and they were really dry, so I asked one of the waiters if they had any sauces available. He gave us a side of tzatziki sauce, which was super delicious and creamy! Afterwards, my filet mignon came out and it looked burnt, so I decided to give it a try. The first bite confirmed that it was really burnt and also on the well done/medium side, which wasn't what I had ordered (I ordered as medium rare). What was truly disappointing was our own server - I had mentioned to him that the crust of the steak was burnt (it had that gross bitter taste to it) and all he could say was "it's supposed to be slightly charred". Seriously? If I really wanted to pay $60 for a burnt steak, I would've just bought the most expensive cut of meat at the market and burnt it myself while cooking it at home. Most places, especially higher-end places like Dio Deka, would offer to remake your steak or substitute it with something else on the menu, but all he could say was to alert him if anything ELSE was unsatisfactory with my steak (i.e. temperature), besides the charred crust. My boyfriend ended up switching plates with me, so I ate the duck, which was really good compared to my original steak. After mentioning the steak to our server, I noticed that he didn't come by the table as often as before and rarely checked in with us. Our server (and the steak!) definitely left a bad taste in my mouth - I definitely will not be returning due to the poor service from our server. read more

Sad to say one of my favorite Los Gatos restaurants is getting worse and worse :( When I first came here years ago, they had 1 Michelin star. It was an amazing feat since I think it was one of the only mediterranean restaurants to receive a Michelin star. Then they lost it and never got it back. I'm not sure if they're not trying or what, but seems like a lack of motivation to me. The menu really hasn't changed since my first time here. They have a large wine selection and full bar, which is great. I wish they'd encourage their bartender to come up with fun, seasonal cocktails. Their pita bread is hard and lacks flavor. The octopus appetizer was okay, nothing amazing. My husband's branzino was mostly charred and almost flavorless with potatoes on the side. Having potatoes on the side of your dish looks like you gave up on being creative with ingredients and presentation. My seafood pasta was pretty good. We used to get the bone-in filet , which was so tender and delicious. The last two times we got it, the meat didn't seem fresh and wasn't cooked well so the texture was grainy and kind of stringy. Overall, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. I hope the chef and bartender can revamp this place to its former glory. read more

The pita bread was so so...not all the spreads were great. The salad was so so, nice little cleanser before the entree. The lamb was not bad, but after having a bite of the steak, I prefer the steak. Spinach was so so but the potato was good. The dessert was too sweet. I had the molten cake and ate all the ice cream because it was the only thing that wasn't too sweet. The drinks were good though. Ambience and service was nice. Came here for an event, overall nice venue and all, free valet. read more
