Tagliatelle Bolognese

Great atmosphere and delicious food. Went to dinner with a few friends and enjoyed appetizers of clams and their white pizza. Also a fan favorite the tagliatelle bolognese.

A sister restaurant to the fantastically successful Edo's Squid. The vibe here is curious -- to say relaxed is perhaps an understatement. But like drinking a sesame latte, a curious combination that leaves me wanting more. The name and coloring on the website suggest to me one of the many places I visited in Eastern Europe (back when it was fashionable to call it that). The propeller in the window evokes feelings of a factory-sponsored restaurant where everything in the town might be called "Dinamo". The place is casual but in a fun way and the food is certainly not factory-like. We dined with a crowd, and the servers handled it superbly. The dishes were well-timed and prepared with care, even though the restaurant was packed that night. Our table felt well cared for -- which hit my Italian family note. Portions were generous. My rockfish was well-seasoned. Beet and fennel salad -- c'mon, we all need more beets on menus please. I loved the earthiness of the beets with the licorice-like taste of the fennel (another curious combination that worked!). And the buffalo mozzarella, red pepper and anchovy dish was a nice mix of creamy and savory. The ricotta gnocchi was a bit heavy for my taste -- nice flavor, but I would have preferred something to break up the cheese on cheese on potato. Our wines were a good accompaniment -- they don't have a full bar here though, so you can't use cocktails to vary the experience as I do sometimes. I would suggest a BYOB, but I don't even know if that's possible on Cary Street. Overall made for a fun (and full) night! The creativity on Cary Street is fun -- a nice ecosystem, not to be taken for granted.

Everything we got was so good! The gnocchi was so soft and creamy, fettuccine has the perfect saltiness and the salad was so balanced and flavorful. We got the tiramisu to go and the taste of alcohol was too strong for me and it didn't have enough sweetness to balance it out. Overall we loved the vibe it was the perfect date night spot!

Oh my gosh. I cannot say better things about this place. Made a last minute decision to come here and everything worked out perfectly. While we preferred a table, we sat at the bar because there was no seating available, as this place is very small, but service was amazing! Our waitress was tentative, she gave great reccs, and was a doll! Wish o got her name to give a shout-out. I highly recc having a reservation if you come during "rush" dinner hours. All pasta, bread, and pizza dough are made in house. The bread that came out was light fluffy and to die for. We shared a pizza and i do not know what to say other than it was incredible! The crust was crunchy and thing, pizza sauce was sweet and savory! The bolognese was just *chefs kiss* I literally do not know what to say in this review because I was blown out of the water. YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE ASAP if you want an authentic Italian experience.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but, much like mama zu and Edo's the customer service always leaves a bit to be desired. I was the second person in line to enter at opening as the reservations for the six or so tables they had were full. I requested a space for two at the bar and was told I would have to wait for the second person, which while my friend was parking wasn't going to be a long while and I get it, but there are only four bar seats. My friend arrived and we were seated. Two of the tables remained empty the entirety of the hour and half we were there, which is annoying when we were crammed in such a small space. We quickly ordered drinks and food as we assumed the place was going to be packed momentarily. We got cocktails and a white pizza as an appetizer and they were all exquisite. I ordered the gnocchi for a main and friend ordered another red pizza for her main. Everything came out fresh and hot. It was all divine. The gnocchi was exceptional. We ordered a second round of drinks and the bartender looked pressed. We weren't pushy, understood she was busy taking calls and drink orders so we repeatedly told her no rush to anything and when she was free, but each interaction felt like we were going out of our way to annoy her when we never gave a rushed vibe. I just don't like being treated in that manner when I get that it's busy and things take time. We will definitely be back but I just don't understand the attitude.

An underrated restaurant in Richmond. I've walked by the place countless times and somehow never realized it was there?! It is quite intimate so reservations are recommended. I went with a group of 10 and all of our dishes were cooked to perfection and timed perfectly. Pasta is made in-house. The portions are massive! Every person had leftovers.

This was so good! The restaurant is really small so be sure to make reservations in advance if you can. The food was delicious and came out quickly. I also loved that they provided bread throughout the entire meal...a must for scraping up all the delicious broths and sauces!

I ordered the just fish that comes with ten (10) pieces. Yes count them 1, 2,3,...10. Just like the Count on Sesame Street. Everyone is locked on right. I paid the money and the guy at the counter charged me for how many? Ten (10) fish pieces. After my short wait, my order was ready. The guy at the window showed me the fish looking golden brown and delicious. Hot piping hot. I said they looked good and ready for liftoff. Got to the car and my wife and I were happy at the time. After several hours and other stops we made it home. We live in Baltimore Md. A short 4 hour ride away. When my wife had unpacked the food and she asked me did I eat any fish? I said No? If I had she would have killed me before the plate got cold. She said that then they (Sugar's) did not give us piece number 10. The Boss was not happy and neither was I. Now I don't mind paying for delicious food and will do again. What I do mind is paying for fish that does not appear on my plate. I felt RIPPED OFF! If someone in the back of the house can't count to ten (10) and your employing someone who doesn't know how to count to 10, I am wondering what else is going on in the back of the house. Advise 1) Moving forward I will ask them to count them before accepting the finished product 2) Don't buy the Onion Rings. My wife does not care for them and she is an Onion ring person. Let's do this again but I'm bring the Count with me and the number 10 JUST TO MAKE SURE WERE CLEAR!

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. Being a little wet with beverages and good food seemed the better option so we ordered more food. The octopus was great. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. If you are in the area, highly recommended stopping by, rain or shine, and sampling their menu. Nicely done.

Our server was helpful and indulged a few questions we had about the menu. If I remember his name, I'll add it later. The energy here exudes soul food, including the soundtrack playing over the speakers. If you like Michael Jackson, which we do, you'll appreciate the vibe. I tried the bone-in pork chop within Hoppin' Johns (rice and beans), and my partner had the Fried Chicken with macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. She said her meal was fantastic, and I tried some of the mac and cheese; it was excellent. My pork chop was much better than the one I tried at the sister location in Short Pump. However, there were so many onions that I spent a lot of time painstakingly sorting those out with my fork. The meal was delicious, but the amount of onions certainly soured my experience. This is our second time here, and while I'm glad I tried the pork chop, I think I'll try something less oniony next time. I recommend Lillie Pearl to anyone who likes a well-curated southern food menu. The new location is beautifully decorated and would provide amazing photo opportunities for anyone planning to have an event here.

I was in Richmond for work and picked Lillian for dinner on Sunday night when I arrived in town…read more I'm so glad I did. My meal at Lillian was fantastic. Lillian is a seafood restaurant, but their food is interesting and creative, full of expected takes on seafood classics. I was there to enjoy a solo meal, which was frustrating because I wanted everything on the menu, but I ordered: one Caviar Slider (house-made sweet potato bun, fried oyster, citrus creme fraiche, chive, and caviar); half a dozen PEI oysters which came with a very interesting kiwi mignonette; their Ceviche Jipijapa (blue fin tuna, peanut leche de tigre, avocado, aji verde, and green plantain); and fried smelts (with aji dulce aioli and lemon). Everything was delicious - perfectly seasoned, fresh, bright, a treat. I ordered a glass of white wine and had a little pour of sparkling wine with my smelts as well. They have great beverage options. The restaurant is beautiful - with a long, low bar that swings around the kitchen where raw bar options are prepared. It was dark and cool and modern (I had to Shazam a few songs they played during my meal). As if all that weren't enough, the service was also wonderful. Allison was my server during my meal, and she really added to my experience. She was friendly and helpful (she helped me with what to order; I'm always afraid I'll order 2x too much food just me when I have a solo meal), really great. I had a great meal at Lillian. It was a treat to have a solo meal here, but I'd love to be able to bring my husband or friends next time!

What really disappointed me was that I was still charged for the dry a** chicken. I'm usually pretty understanding when something goes wrong with a meal--it happens--but how management handles it makes all the difference. At the very least, the entrée should have been taken off the bill. Great ambiance and the appetizers were solid, but management could have done a much better job making the situation right.
