Had Dinah's for the first time today and cannot wait to go back!! The chicken was incredible, the Mac and cheese was spot on, and the biscuits with the apple butter are incredible. You get your food fairly quickly and staff were nice. The only down side is that if you want to eat in the restaurant you have to order off the table menus. Came here last Thursday for lunch and got the chicken sandwich and macaroni cheese side combo. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had chicken was nice and crispy and juicy came with coleslaw on top. I never had the two together like that, but it was very very good. So disappointed. Guessing all the good reviews are from people who have never been to the south and have no idea what Southern cooking is all about. The Chicken is good not great a bit salty really. Mac n cheese had zero flavor boxed vibes. It came with rolls but ordered biscuits because we didn't want to miss out on a good biscuit and they practically tasted like the rolls! No flaky dough just a round piece of bread that did not have the texture of a biscuit. Those biscuits you buy in a can taste better. Beans were ok. I spent 80 bucks for food I'm figuring out if I will doctor up and try to fix or just throw away tomorrow. We will eat the chicken and that is about it. Oh and the gravy is lumpy with a watery consistency bought two slices of pie. One lemon meringue which was made rubbery and I got a slice coconut cream pie which had a piece of what I am guessing is machinery!!! thank goodness I didn't take a full on bite or I would have broken my teeth. It was a round disc made of thick plastic that I could not break in half if I tried a hazard really! Oh and the crust on both pieces did not have the right texture. I should go back and ask for my money back but not worth the drive back. The piece of plastic alone I found in my pie should be a reason ..... I could cook a better Thanksgiving meal with my eyes closed. If you want generic and insipid tasting food this is the place for you. 80 of my hard earned money down the drain. I normally don't write reviews but I had to make one regarding the customer service here. I was bragging about this place to my fiancée for weeks about how good the food was and how it's my favorite place to come too my family has been coming here for years but unfortunately we always get the worst customer service here and it's normally always three older ladies i think two of them are twins and some other older lady with short black hair anyways I don't stop coming because I love the food but dislike the snotty service I always get. On January 25th at around 7:30 pm I had asked our waitress if she can give us a refill of the apple butter that I normally always put on my delicious chicken and with the most disgusting attitude and eye roll that they normally always give me when I ask for more apple butter when she comes back I was in shock even my fiancée was shocked and very much upset because she came back with the smallest cup of apple butter keep in mind I gave her the jar so she can refill it meanwhile she was refilling everyone else's cup and when it came to ours nope this is what she gave me while I still had like 3 big pieces of chicken on my plate my fiancée turned and told me this is why you brought me here we could've had better service at McDonald's and to never bring him here again and proceeded to ask for to go boxes I was so upset that I asked one of the younger very polite girls working that night at the register for the older lady's name and she said her name was rose and I didn't get her twin sisters name she has red hair when rose handed me the mini cup the red head lady was laughing like it was some sort of joke and I asked if there was anyway I can speak with the owner and the younger girl said call in the morning she's normally here at that time so I told her thank you while I was packing my food my fiancée got up went to the register bought me a big pint of apple butter to go home and finish enjoying my delicious chicken the food is never a disappointment it's ways very much delicious but unfortunately it's the lack of customer service I definitely still would like if the owner can reach out to me regarding this issue and other altercations I've had with the other older ladies I have recordings of them being very disrespectful to me and my family if I could post it here on yelp I would read more

Tried this spot a few days ago, walked in placed my to go order. Then asked her how long it would take, she told me 1 minute lol, but it literally only took 30 seconds and my order was already in my hands. They are crazy fast with preparation, kfc isn't even as fast as them. Lol And what's even crazier my fried chicken was fresh! Here's the deal. I sincerely wanted to like this place; it's just not for me. That doesn't mean it's not for you. I personally require a little more flavor overall. Once I realized the location on Sepulveda closed, I took it upon myself to make it a point to try it out before this recession really starts to, well, hit. This might be the kind of place where you have to know what to order, though their menu isn't extensive. I selected what I thought would be safer options after my intuition directed me not to go with an entire meal. I still pieced things together appropriately to provide myself with a fair experience, and was glad to have gone with my first thought. I believe I would have ultimately felt a way had I opted for a pricier option for a mediocre experience. I found myself seasoning my plate down. I did appreciate the hot sauce option(s). I was able to douse my chicken down with familiarity; that was a lovely touch. The fried chicken is good although it did catch me off guard that it left a subtle, but noticeable pile of grease on my plate initially and thereafter placing it down. It's crispy, juicy and does what it needs to do. I probably should have gone with a chicken and waffles combination, but you never know. My mashed potatoes weren't whipped, and that wasn't an issue at all whatsoever, I just thought I'd throw that in there for details sake. I also noticed there was what seemed like apple sauce on the table as a condiment, but I had no idea what to do with that. Maybe I should have tried it on my biscuit now that I'm mentioning it. Maybe that'll give me a reason to come back to try the waffle. Hm... only time will tell, but I can guarantee. I will not be rushing back down there. The service was decent, but that's probably because all three waitresses there that day, came to check on me. My initial waitress wasn't bad, but it didn't feel like she wanted to be there and that made me slightly uncomfortable. It was as though she was tryna get me in and outta there. Mind you, it wasn't busy. There were to-go orders and one other lady that came to dine-in once I was basically on my way out. We all have our days, after all, though that attributed to my mundane visit. The decorum was cute and quaint; it was giving Hobby Lobby. I noticed they had drinks that appeared to have been possibly homemade in those clear fountain'y looking things, but when I inquired about them, I found out none of them were in fact made from scratch. That was kinda surprising. I am a sucker for homemade items, so that was a bit disappointing considering this is an establishment that's older than me and I don't know, I was maybe expecting more of a home'y feel. The biscuit was dry and not in the way where you can tell it's crispy from being freshly baked. It was just. Dry. I buttered the heck out of that thing through and thru to make the best of it. I don't like wasting food probably because of the cloth I was cut from, so I did what needed to be done and muscled along to the completion of my meal. It just wasn't the one I thought I'd be getting. All in all, I could have done without this experience as it resonated as a glorified fast food restaurant over a quality hole in the wall which I do love and that's not what I was going for. read more

Saw this spot when we were going down the street to Goodwill. I'm a fried chicken fanatic so I quickly bookmarked it on Yelp and in the files of my brain lol. It took about a month to get here but we did. We were impressed.. Any establishment with charm and who isn't a chain will always get my $$ first. I haven't had gizzards and livers in years so that was the main thing I wanted to try. The livers were fantastic but I wasn't a fan of the gizzards. I also had a fried thigh just to taste to see what the hype was about. It was fried great but I was expecting a bit more seasoning....blame it on my Southern roots where mostly everything has Creole seasonings. Full blown honest review of my first time experience here: I stopped by at Dinah's Chicken after getting off work around 5:30pm. I heard many great things about this place and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I was greeted by a kind gentleman who happened to be the manager at this very homey and cozy establishment. I forgot his name, but it was either Daniel or David. Shame on me for not remembering!!! ‍ I didn't know what to get so the manager was keen on helping me get a nice beginner combo. (Price is decent. Especially in this f'ed up economy.) Manager offered me a stuffing sample and pineapple coleslaw sample. The stuffing was 7/10 and the pineapple coleslaw was a 9/10. And I HATE coleslaw; but this one was AMAZING!!! Food took about 12 minutes to come out and it was hot! . Got home and started eating. The food was okay. I expected better, but I think all the hype got my expectations too high because I've been waiting a whole week to try this place. Mac n Cheese: the noodles were a little undercooked. I didn't taste any seasoning whatsoever. But the cheese was kicking pretty good. 5/10 Pineapple Coleslaw: OMG!!!!! Amazing! I f***ing HATE coleslaw, but this will definitely make me come back! 9/10 and not a lower grade! Chicken: The chicken was decent. I got a bad leg piece because it was very chewy and looked very dark. It happens. I worked in a restaurant and chicken is not for the inexperienced. * The thighs however were pretty good! * the chicken had only a slight crunch and the seasoning was decent but it definitely tasted unique in a way where you can't get chicken like it from anywhere else. Dinah's fried chicken is so good. We've been coming here for 20+ years.. They currently have a dine in special if you order something that is $5, you can purchase chicken legs for $1 (5 max). We usually split a jumbo combo(5 pieces of chicken, 2 sides, and a dinner roll) their pineapple Cole slaw is the best Cole slaw, their dinner roll is amazing when you add butter and their apple jam. Their mashed potato and gravy is also good. I liked the waffles with apple jam instead of the syrup. Their servers are always so nice and if you have any questions on the menu they will be sure to help you. But I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. They also serve pies for dessert. I've never tried them because we're usually full from the food. The corn is fried, I'd much prefer boiled or steamed..the neighborhood has changed a bit recently. I love Yelp! Again, this community is the go to for recommendations. Time and money are important and it's good have a resource you can trust on where spending both. That being said, driving by I saw the fantastic graphics and bucket. It's a bit of nostalgic kitsch that I'm sure Charles Phoenix would love too. I read a couple of reviews and bookmarked Dinah's on Yelp. There's plenty of free parking in the lot and free parking on the street. The only outside dining is a picnic table, so if you bring your dog, you can get food and eat out there, but there's no table service outside. We ate inside... walking into a slice of 1960s Americana feels like walking into a movie set or being on a road trip across Route 66. The clientele did not disappoint for people watching, they seemed perfectly cast for the ambiance. Some have probably been regulars for decades. We opted for 3 pieces fried chicken with waffle to share between two people. They know what they are doing and they do it up right. Both were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. (kind of like my personality). The menu says the waffle comes with maple syrup. Our server said it's real.... but if you are skeptical, as I am, go for the apple butter in the jar on the table... it looks more like vegemite, but it has a nice apple spice flavor that goes well with the chicken and waffle, but it's gilding the lily, because they are both good without added embellishments. We did save room for apple pie a la mode, because the setting beckoned to do so. It was OK. We were curious about the Boston Cream pie... but we can save that for another visit. read more

First of all, I want to say that their chicken is to die for particularly if you get them to make it fresh and they don't give you something that they may have had laying around so I will gladly wait for fresh chicken. The one thing that's a problem and has turned me negative is that they close at 8:30 but they close the dining room at 7:50 now why does it take actually 40 minutes to worry about cleaning maybe one or two tables? I don't get it. They're turning away Business Because of it. I would say they could close the dining area at 8:15 and still have plenty of time without overtime to clean a couple tables, but that's silly me. read more

Huge fan of fried chicken and this was some of the best in my opinion! If you are looking for the spicy greasy variety this is not it. This is the least greasy fried chicken I have ever had! It had a more subtle taste and minimal breading, more like an old fashioned grandma's homemade type of cooking. The chicken is also never frozen and my drumstick was super plump and juicy, not like the scrawny ones you get at some other fried chicken fast food chains.
