Being in Los Angeles, which is known for having a multitude of hot chicken restaurant options, I was excited to try Dave's Hot Chicken at its location in Glendale. Parking was plentiful on the street where Dave's is situated on Colorado Boulevard. I enjoyed the simplicity of the front counter and the menu, which offers three options from which to choose. You could choose from two (2) chicken tenders and fries, two (2) sliders with fries, or a chicken tender and a slider with fries. You can select the level of heat that you want with your order: No spice, lite mild, mild, medium, hot, very hot, or reaper. Given I wanted to obtain a good feel for the heat levels at Dave's, I decided on the two (2) tenders and fries at medium heat while ordering a single tender with hot heat and one with very hot heat. I enjoy spicy food and heat, so I determined I wouldn't be smoked out with my selected options. Additionally, I ordered a chocolate milkshake to help with whatever heat level might be a little overwhelming. My order came reasonably fast from ordering it, and I brought my food back to my table with my mouth watering. Chicken-wise, the tenders are delicious, juicy, and fresh. Served on top of white bread, the tenders were cooked to perfection between the fried batter and freshness of the chicken, while the seasoning was perfect, which led to each bite being magical. The crinkle-cut fries were nicely seasoned as well. Heat-wise, I'm glad I did the medium, hot, and very hot heat levels. When comparing one to the other, I discovered that spice and heat level grows gradually but never overwhelmingly. While the very hot level was, to put it simply, hotter than the other two levels, I didn't feel smoked out where my mouth was uncontrollably on fire, which I enjoyed. Next time I'm in Los Angeles, I will return to Dave's to try their tenders at the reaper heat level to see how hot the spice is. Inside was simple they only had a few tables for inside seating but they also have a small patio in the front. I got the #3 combo (slider + tender). Delicious! As someone that likes spicy, the hot level was just right. Might have to take it up a notch next time. Just the right amount of slaw on the slider. The tender comes on a slice of bread. I think I'll ask for extra pickles for that next time. Great sauce too. Can't go wrong with any of the combos. I selected the first unlocked restroom on the left and used the urinal (which is directly in front of the door). As I'm using the urinal I hear a key enter the door knob and the door opens! The door was locked and there was no knock. I was shocked and embarrassed and I asked the employee what he was doing. There is a legal expectation of privacy in the restroom. "THIS IS AN EMPLOYEE RESTROOM!" He yells. When I exited the employee didn't even have the decency to apologize for the mix up. Most people would feel just as awkward. He said that I used the employee restroom and the door should have been locked. No where on the door did it say that it was an employee restroom. I was obviously upset and embarrassed and the employee still didn't have empathy or the decency to apologize for the mistake. He even had the audacity to say, "I'm not mad." Well of course he wasn't mad, he wasn't the one who has his privacy violated!!! Management/franchisee, please fix your sign if that restroom is indeed an "employee restroom". Also train your employees in customer service. This entire interaction and post could have been mitigated with a simple apology.
