I haven't been to California Fish Grill in about 5 years! The one I gone to was out in Upland. We've had the Glendale one for several years, but yesterday was the first time in that store. Is the concept the same with all stores? Lorenzo was such a sweetheart!! He helped me navigate the touchscreen to place my order. Got 2 orders of the fish tacos (Tacos Tuesday) and chose kale slaw and beans as the their sides. In addition, I ordered 2 clam chowders and 2 Ceasar Salads!! Yummers squared!! Our only complaints were that our soups were cold. Honestly, I would've been fine if the nuked it! Lol But they don't have any microwaves!And Lorenzo is there outshining himself!! He's a wonderful employee!! He's a gem!! Those fish tacos tho!!! Hefty in size with a loud satisfying crunch!! Have to remind myself that I need to eat more fish!! Can't think of a better place than this! I only wish I bought another entree! Amazingly, the extra taco which I couldn't finish remained crunchy despite being in the fridge a few hours! It's not often these days that I can find a meal under $20. I got the swai salmon plate w zucchini's and kale slaw. It was all delicious food and made me feel like I made healthy choices for under $20. I ate at the restaurant and had excellent service from Lorenzo(? We've been here a decent amount over the years, but haven't been in a year or two probably. We were pleasantly surprised to find things seem to be upgraded here. They have new menu items and better flavors. This is basically a Chipotle that specializes in fish. You choose a bowl, a plate or tacos with different fish. They have a decent selection of things, not just alsmon or halibut. They have swai or swordfish. They also have poke now which was very good for the price. You order on digital kiosks and seat yourself. The place is clean but feels a little corporate. Good service, clean, and food well prepped. Usually come in on Sunday afternoons for lunch and it can get quite busy, so if you have a larger party, it can be tricky to find seating together. Also, be aware that food prep can take a while on weekends, so maybe ordering ahead can help decrease wait times. The fire roasted corn and salad were good but the fish tacos were a mess. Instead of using sour cream or some type of dairy cream to make them authentic they use mayonnaise. Yes mayonnaise. It threw off the flavor of the fried fish so much. The fish was also breaded in a weird way definitely not the traditional beer batter. I highly doubt I'll try this place again. Staff here are really excellent. I accidentally ordered the wrong thing on the self order screen and asked if they could help me. I heard they were dealing with some equipment issues (totally understandable situation and it was solved super quickly!) which I can only imagine how stressful that was. But Miguel the manager was able to pause to help me quickly and fix my order. the entire staff was so kind and still kept a calm atmosphere. Over the years, this is one of the most consistent spots I can always vouch for. I have been to several of their locations, throughout at least 7 years now and the food is always good, healthy, and the prices are reasonable. One of few spots that doesn't keep jacking the prices up every few months for the past 5 years. This time I got the Salmon and Swai combo - fish was cooked perfectly, the sauces were delicious, and the sides were solid as well. We ordered the lobster roll which was so good, the salmon protein bowl which was so filling and nutritious, and the salmon and swai fish plate which was protein packed and delicious! Extremely disappointed with my experience at California Fish Grill. This is the second time this has happened when ordering online for pickup! I arrived and gave my name after stating I am here to pick up an online order. The staff looked at the ready-to-go bags and told me my order wasn't there. Five minutes later, another employee came up to me, asked for my name, looked at the bags (literally read the names on the pick up slip slips in her head) and said my order wasn't ready yet. After waiting about 15 minutes, another employee (now the third employee) suddenly said, "Oh, this is for you", read my name off the pick up slip, and handed me the same bag that had been sitting there the entire time -- about 20 minutes after I arrived. My name was clearly typed on the pickup slip. Because the food had been sitting there so long, it was cold, and I had to ask them to remake it.
