I'm a big fan of Mediterranean buffets and this one does not disappoint. The ground beef/lamb is well seasoned if a bit dry, but goes really well with tsatziki or hummus. The tabbouleh is also delicious, but a bit on the lemony side. The baklava is hit or miss. Some days it's amazing, other days it's not worth having really. The rice pudding with pistachios on the other hand is always good and a surprising addition. The last thing I nearly always get is the curry-like chicken kabob pieces which are always moist and delicious. Especially on the fresh flatbread. i like going here. it is fast style buffet. good things: humus, yogart/cucumber sauce, great rice, really great gyro meat, salads, and great fountain soda. their coke zero is really great. bad things: dried out chicken fry and broiled. seems like they are days old. uninspired other cooked food. once in a while i try them against my better judgement. 99% of the time, spit it back out. life is too short for dried out chicken. go there to make great gyro/doner with good salad and sauce. stay away from the rest. read more

They have a salad bar with hummus and all the fixins......the gyro meat was tasty. You could make your own gyros all day long! They have a brick oven where they make their own pitas fresh . The Yello curry put my boyfriend in a trance. He said the fish was excellent...I didn't try it. Overall it was really good....maybe a lil expensive about twelve dollars a person. I was visiting some friends in Austin, they had never tried Middle Eastern food, so I thought that Dimassi's would give them a wide variety of choices. I've been to the Dimassi's in The Woodlands (pretty good) and in San Antonio (so-so) but his one topped them both. Now, I realize that buffets can vary day to day (some, hour to hour) so your experience depends on the luck of the draw. But I've heard that this restaurant remains pretty consistent. When it comes to Middle Eastern food, I'm a grazer--a little bit of this, a little bit of that on the first plate. Then eat, find the favorites, then head back for more of those. I tried literally every dish but some stood out. Hummus and Baba Ghanouge are among my favorites and these didn't disappoint. Many times, when made in the quantity that's available, the flavors are dull and the consistency either slimy or pasty. I'm happy to say, this was not the case. And what goes better with that than pita? It's fresh, baked in a proper brick deck oven; not wood-burning as in the East, but it does a great job nonetheless. The dolmas are very good, the rice was properly seasoned and not tough or slimy, as I've had it in some restaurants. Falafels--Lord, I love those little devils!!! These were great; as I was at the buffet, they came out, hot and fresh. I made a beeline for them and was rewarded with proper spicing and texture. As for the vegetables, the eggplant cooked with pomegranate molasses was excellent. As simple as it sounds, it's a difficult dish to pull off correctly but Dimassi's did an excellent job. Warning: it's somewhat of an acquired taste but be daring and at least try one piece. The grilled veggies were also above average; just tender enough without falling apart and for a buffet, that's quite a feat. And try the fried cauliflower, even if, like me, you don't care for it--this will change your mind. Among the meats, the shredded beef stood out--sort of like an old fashioned pot roast, juicy and succulent but with Middle Eastern spices. There was mustard chicken; a surprise, as the mustard flavor is very mild yet totally makes the dish. The kafta kabobs were spot on flavor-wise; however, they were a little dry but not so much as to affect the overall restaurant rating. But for me, the star of the show was the gyros. They were fresh from the kitchen; had they been sitting awhile they would have perhaps dried a bit. The amount I ate should make me hang my head in shame. But I ate 'em, I'm glad it did and I'd do it again--so there! Desserts and drinks range from the familiar to the somewhat exotic. And everything, including the drinks, is self-service. Busing the tables takes place at regular intervals, so your empty plates won't take of valuable eating room. I'll definitely come back and if my impression changes, I'll update my review. But for now, I'm stuffed and I'm happy--for this ol' boy, it doesn't get much better than that. read more

This is possibly the BEST buffet in Austin. The fact that it is a Mediterranean buffet (specializing in Lebanese dishes) is truly unique too. I have been coming here for several years now and each time the food has been amazing! It's always so fresh and the sides and entrees are kept nice and hot, plus they continuously bake pita bread right out of a brick oven. Most times you can snag some while it's still steaming. The staff is very polite and always greet us upon entering, the décor and music is on point and the restaurant is kept clean. My favorite item on the menu has to be the VEGETABLE CURRY SOUP. It's amazing! Try it poured over some rice with vermicelli in a soup cup. Other delicious staples include: Greek salad, tabouli, avocado hummus, garlic sauce, falafel, chicken kebobs, gyro meat, Mediterranean rice with almond slivers, lamb shank, lentil soup and the creamy baklava for dessert. Drinks are included in this buffet as well. They offer the usual fountain sodas plus coffee, tea, rose water and a tamarind drink. I hope this places never closes, because it is one of a kind. I've been going to this place for a long time - even their Houston locations. I've been to several Mediterranean places and it's a great place to eat. They have great fall-off-the-bone Lamb Shanks, Beef Kefta, Mustard Chicken Cubes (the proper name escapes me), Couscous, Cucumber Salad, Rice and all types of veggies - including Baba ghanoush. We also have sampled eggplant and fried cauliflower, which were tasty, but not among our favorites. The Middle Eastern spiced pot roast, was a favorite, however; shredded, juicy and succulent, it ranks right up there with the fresh gyros and the kafta kabobs, which were pleasingly flavorful without being overpowering.
