Warm and inviting family-style atmosphere. On a Saturday in the early afternoon my party of 7 was seated immediately. Waiters with carts stopped by our table just as we sat down. The dishes we chose were a hit or miss. I recommend the sweets, especially the red bean filled ones! The check was very cheap for the amount of food we had. read more

Nothing special really to talk about here. Standard run of the mill dimsum place with every dish available. Food is still served in carts OG style. Restaurant was clean and spacious. Even when we went on Chinese New year, there was still enough seating for diners coming in after us. Washroom was clean. Servers were courteous and friendly despite the language barrier. This restaurant is located on the third floor with a very old elevator that can take you up, but when the restaurant is very busy, it also tends to clog up the small sized elevator. read more

This is probably one of the best overall experiences I have ever had. Visiting Toronto, my friend had asked what I wanted for brunch. I said, "you pick". He asked if I liked dim sum and the rest was history. Dim Sum King Seafood Restaurant is a traditional dim sum restaurant. It's enormous. It's loud; from the carts being pushed around, the wait staff asking you if you want their dish, and the guests chatting away. Dozens of carts being pushed around, all with amazing dishes that you have to try. The pricing I don't get and honestly I didn't care how much anything cost at the moment. If I wanted it, I got it. You have a waiter. Ours was ok. The main focus here is on the dim sum, not on your waiter. We drank water faster than he could keep up so he left us a pitcher. Problem solved. The sticky rice with pork and the fried shrimp were out of this world. The spare rib was to die for. I'm still thinking about it now. You have to pace yourself. We picked too much too soon and have to call it quits too early. Don't say yes because you're hungry. Enjoy this one of a kind experience. You'll love it. I did and can't wait to try it again. read more

Old school dim sum complete with the dim sum carts being pushed around in Chinatown! Quite a busy place with lots of the local older Chinese enjoying their daily tea mixed in with many tourists (they really tried to explain what's in the food to non Chinese speaking patrons)! The dim sum offered is the "typical" traditional dim sum and not a lot of the fancy (read expensive) varieties that we see in some of the more upscale dim sum places around Toronto. For the most part food was taste and the temperature was decent. Food was covered with lids and the plates were all covered with a large plastic lids (that's NOT old school-that's progress!). They have a flat price for small, medium, large for $3/ plate which is good value. This is our go to dim sum place in Chinatown and worth a shot. read more

Came here because it was the first dim sum restaurant we encountered when we decided on that for lunch. Overall, it was mildly disappointing. What we did eat, we had no complaints about. The problem was the food carts kept rolling out the same items over and over again. Not once did I see spare ribs, beef meatballs, or many of our usual favourites. Yes, we did see the had gow, siu mai, tripe and chicken feet, but after you see the carts come by multiple times with them, you leave a little unsatisfied. read more

Blegh - dimsum here is not so gucci. However, it's a pretty large restaurant located upstairs in Chinatown... so you'll likely not have to wait in line if that's all you care about. We came on Saturday around noon and there was nooooooo line up, so diff compared to places in Markham and Scarbz. Food here doesn't seem like it's very fresh, likely due to low turnover since it was srsly pretty empty. Taste is mehhh. Taste-wise it's just mehhh. Price is average too. And this is exactly why those who have access to cars go up north to get their dim sum on. No shade hehe. read more

The food and service were great, would highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for dim sum!

Great atmosphere and dim sum was not too sweet or salty. Noise levels were really good as well despite it being a popular location. Highly recommend! read more

My friend and I recently visited Toronto during our one-week stay. During the 7 days, we ventured to Dim Sum King two times and I'd like to share my thoughts of the establishment. Dim Sum King is an authentic restaurant that serves traditional Cantonese cuisine that vary from family-style to dim sum dishes. Good dim sum is rare from where we come from, so it was a goal for us to find dim sum while we're in Chinatown. Thus, we stumbled upon "Dim Sum King" after doing various searches on our slow, wireless phones. - Dim sum (5/5) - you order off a menu, so no cart service (we visited during non-morning times though). Each dish is roughly $2.75-3.00 CAD and is great in portions. Some go-to's are the char siu bao, shu mai, har gow, egg yolk custard, and cheong fun - Customer service (4/5) - the environment is fast paced and sometimes they can forget about you if there are lots of customers. This is typical of an Asian restaurant, so don't take it for offense. Just simply get their attention and move on. In our second visit, there were less people present so we had full attention and even got dessert on the house Dim Sum King satisfies that crave for good Cantonese food at a fairly affordable price. You cannot go wrong with this place on your next visit to Chinatown! read more

it was ok, good vibes standard place. hargow was decent, not overly expensive but nothing really stands out

The most authentic dim sum experience I've been to. The cart ladies literally spoke Cantonese to me (of which I deciphered 30%). Seriously I've been to dimsum in Montreal, New York, SF, and by far this was the best experience. Perhaps it was because I went early morning on a week day, but we found ourselves around older people who clearly has it in their routine to come have some hearty food and start the morning. Everything we got was good, especially the fried shrimp and leek "buns". There were huge pieces of shrimp with it's flavour enhanced by the leek. The snow pea greens are now my favorite green. The places is a little tricky to find, but trust me it's worth it! Just look for the Mongolian sheep hotpot place. read more

Where to begin?! We were there the weekend of the moon cake festival so it was very busy everywhere. I did the research before our trip on which place was the best dim sum in Toronto. We go to every Chinatown for dim sum wherever we visit and I can say this is pretty good. Everything is piping hot fresh, well crafted and tastes good. Excellent variety of many items to choose from in every catagory; meat, vegetables, soups, deserts and special delicacies. Price can't be beat for what you get. Only thing that could be improved on is the hot chili oil. There was very little chilies and all oil! Still a great place and a lot of fun to experience here. read more

They never learn from from their lessons. With the Wuhan Coronavirus having no end in sight, Chinese restaurants in Toronto were reported to suffer in revenue. This establishment, in particular, managed to get the city's mayor and several other politicians to promote how eating in Chinatown is still safe. One would expect Chinese restaurants to be extra vigilant in this day and age , but it looks like Dim Sum King doesn't give a damn. Today is the first time I ordered food from a Chinese restaurant since the outbreak--3 orders of dim sum and an entree, via Ubereats. Upon opening the box containing Siu Mai(meat dumplings), a piece of coarse hair was seen integrated in, and bridging between 2 dumplings(see photo posted, Siu Mai with hair on the left). If they can let this happen during dire times, I can only imagine sanitary standard is even lower in the good days. Never again. read more

Delicious dim sum service! I only eat seafood so I ate shrimp dumplings (ha gow and the fried dumpings). Can't go wrong with this spot, they have a good special too, $3 for certain dishes in the morning. It gets busy around 12pm. Overall the service was great and the food was delicious. The dumplings were cooked/steamed nicely none of them were mushy. Good to come for breakfast/early lunch with family or a group of friends! read more

Unbeatable price, fast service, decent food. Can't expect anything more from a quaint dumpling place in China town. Definite get the shrimp cake and their dim sums. Definitely avoid their soups. I frequent this place at least once every three weeks (what can I say, I have a strong craving for dim sum every so often). My co-workers and I always go here for lunch and get really excited to see what the carts offer. The favourites are definitely chicken feet (since the chicken feet always look like they're giving me the middle finger, I can honestly say that it is the only time I feel happy when I see a middle finger) and shrimp hockey pucks. The place is always bustling at lunch time but the seats are plentiful. The servers are always happy to help if a cart hasn't come by with your favourite dish. Although I mentioned my love for chicken feet and shrimp hockey pucks, I would be ignoring my other cravings at this place such as the beef rice noodle rolls and the crispy shrimp spring rolls. Not to mention the piping hot har gow and shiu mai which is always served on the same cart. If you want the authentic dim sum cart experience, Dim Sum King is a definite must. Just a heads up, if you're going with a big group and are splitting the bill...get one person to pay if possible and just e-transfer what you owe them after. I don't think they accept split payments anymore. read more

My friends and I were looking for a dim sum place in Chinatown that served comparable food to Rol San but with more space and we settled on trying this place. We were all glad we did. We visited on Saturday at around noon, and this third-floor restaurant had a table available for our group of 4. The decor here is a bit more fancy compared to Rol San and use actual tablecloths. This restaurant has a lot more seating. You can order off of a very extensive menu, or fully embrace the dim sum culture and select your food from the food carts being pushed around. Things cooked by the same method would be served on the same cart. For example, steamed shrimp dumpling and siu mai would be on the same cart, spring rolls and fried dumplings on one, and all the different types of congee would be on another. The ordered 10 things to share, and ended up paying around $16 per person after tax and tips. The braised pork feet was a little too sweet, and the curry cuttlefish didn't quite have enough curry punch, but all the other things we tried were on point. The one that stood out the most was the bbq pork pastry. The outside was very flaky. Definitely a solid restaurant choice for dim sum. read more

We went to Dim Sum King seafood restaurant for Saturday dim sum. The restaurant is on the third floor, but luckily there is an elevator. The restaurant decor is old fashioned, but the restaurant is clean and the staff is attentive. The restaurant was crowded and very noisy. We were seated close to the kitchen so we didn't have to wait for food. We ate the regular dim sum dishes like shui mai and Har gow. I thought that the food was very good, but my mother thought that it was poor compared to other restaurants. Would we go back? Probably as there isn't many dim sum restaurants in Chinatown anymore. read more

Came back since I had a craving for zongzi, which is listed on the menu as "steam sticky rice pouch with salted meat". It was $6 for one but definitely worth it. The server unwrapped it and cut it for us! I also tried the chicken feet, they were great. Noticed that tea costs $2 here, but prices are cheap. There's also a discount if you come between 9-4pm. read more

This was easily our most disappointing dining experience in Canada (Montreal and Toronto) during our 9-day trip. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was packed, which is great when eating dim sum. However, the carts being pushed were not the options we are focused on eating (ha gau, shu mai, chee cheong fun, sticky rice, char shu bao). The chicken feet cart and the Portuguese egg tart cart must have came by us 5 times though. A manager did try to help us get the chee cheong fun, but after he delivered it, he disappeared. If you go, make sure you get a table in the middle of the ballroom, otherwise, you might be eating your chopsticks. read more

There were less 10 tables occupied on a Sunday morning around 9ish. I ordered three items for 1 person - stuffed bean curd, century egg with pork congee and shrimp roll. Shrimp roll was cold!!!! Watch out for PETTY male server with glasses! He wanted to charge me tea when I had water. He wasn't happy I caught what he did on the bill and he told me I ordered less than $20, he would charge for table next time. Since when was this a policy?! He walked to the cashier to share notes and cashier won't allow me to pay with a credit card for items ordered less than $20. With tip, the bill was close to $20. I should have left without a tip based on the the male server's attitude! Definitely not going back to this place though I have been a patron for sometime!!! read more

Hustling and bustling during a Saturday service. This place is filled with older Asian patrons which means it has to be good. They have a lot more fried than steamed selection compared to New York but each is not too salty and very delicious. Highlights are shrimp/leek dumplings, chicken feet, taro dumplings and string beans with minced pork. read more

I have been an old customer of this restaurant for more than 6 years. Recently, I have found that the food is getting worse and worse. Today I will focus on the male waiter here who wears glasses. He is very unprofessional and makes people dislike him. His service attitude, he will ask people for more tips, which is very disgusting. Such a person will bring shame to this hotel. read more

Came with my Hong Kong parents and ordered lobster and crab both of which were fresh and delicious! They will show you the live seafood before they cook it. Very authentic. At the end they gave me sweet silken tofu my favorite! We're totally coming back tomorrow for more before the folks leave. They also have dim sum specials (all for 3.50$ each) between 9am-4pm on weekdays. We're coming back tomorrow for that too lol. read more

I came with a group attending a local convention. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was efficient and helpful. You'll have to climb up some stairs to get to the restaurant but it'll be worth it. Lots of tables and the place is usually packed. Cart service is great way to try dim sum but the selection can be inconsistent (popular items can take awhile before making it to your table so be prepared to wait). Price wise, it can be a bit more expensive than other dim sum places in Chinatown but it's also a great experience. They take all major credit cards including Amex which is surprising for the area. Would recommend to anyone visiting Toronto. read more

I give them 2.5 stars. Service was bad, food was okay. Place was dirty. Will not return here

THE KING OF DIM SUM. Honestly, this review might be biased considering my hungover self was really craving dim sum, BUT I will try to be as impartial as I can! My friend recommended this place and good lord, just letting you know this place was on the third floor. Thank the Lords there was an elevator cause I definitely don't think I could have made it. When we got upstairs it was BUSY. There were crowds of people waiting to get their number, but damn these Asian workers work HARD. We got seated within 10 minutes. Now if you're not used to Dim Sum, you actually have these ladies that walk around with carts of food, yelling at you to try it. Sounds aggressive, but it's like sitting through elevator pitches of various foods. Usually I order the usual stuff, so this part wasn't too confusing. Tip, you can always ask the waitresses and waiters to show you what the food is, so you're not caught off guard. And the food was AMAZING. No complaints. The succulent Chinese food was enough for my hangry self (my boyfriend was happy I was no longer hangry too). If you're feeling extra boujee, try the Peking Duck. My god, I was LIVING. All in all, very happy with the service. Thanks for making me feel all type of Hong Kong ways. (And sorry no pictures cause I pretty much inhaled the food the moment it got to my table). read more

Dim Sum King is one of the few establishments left that still offers push cart service. Although very spacious, the place gets packed really fast on weekend mornings... especially if you get there after 10:30 am. The pro about cart service is that you get to pick whatever you see on the rotating carts... quick and easy. The downside is that if you come too early (e.g. before 10:30 am), not a lot of dishes are available yet, and you end up seeing only a few of the same dishes rotating on the carts again and again. You'd have to wait a while for a dish you want to come out. Steamed / boiled vegetables can be ordered any time. read more

This place is getting the 4 star upgrade! It's my new go-to place for dim sum downtown. I've been 4-5 times now and the dim sum is consistently good. Much better than Rol San. I do recommend going in the evening though. They have all day dim sum, but it's the push cart ladies if you go in the morning/brunch time. When you go in the evening everything comes fresh from the kitchen, as most of the other diners are ordering from the regular menu. (I cannot believe the review of this place saying the dim sum is from frozen dumplings...NO! I swear...it's obviously not) Some of my favourite dim sum here are: - The har gow (very thin skins, delicious) - The chicken and vegetable dumplings (definitely home made, lots of herbs, veggies and chicken inside) - The honey-lemon glazed short ribs (SO good...no fatty/gristly meat like at Rol San) - The pan fried chives cakes (Must try! They are 3 small round disks filled with chives and whole shrimps. Not a big pancake like you imagine) - Fried eggplant (very good here - stuffed with a shrimp filling, not overly greasy) Prices are reasonable, the bill usually comes to $20-$23 including tax for 6 dim sum dishes (feast for 2 people) The service here is great, really attentive. One time I even had a guy who was fluent in English serve me but normally you get people with only passable English. The other food looks delicious. I saw some people eating big plates of crab last night and it really reminded me of a place in San Francisco I went to, so I might have to go try that out. They also have really nice bathrooms. And on Friday nights, they have "dancing" with a DJ and dance floor set up and Asian couples doing ballroom and line dancing, which I found quite hilarious. My only very slight moan is that they do not have my favourite spicy chili oil sauce. You have to ask for the sauces and you get a normal dish of chili sauce, but it's not the oily one. Boo. read more

I lived in San Francisco for awhile therefore I am spoiled when it comes to dim sum and authentic Chinese food. The service is solid. Everyone was super friendly and we never waited long for anything. The bejing duck was so good...it was honestly the highlight of the meal. The pancakes could have been a little better, but maybe it was an of night. The spring rolls were fine...nothing amazing and not horrible...just middle of the road. The sesame balls were yummy as was the bbq pork buns. I always get annoyed when a restaurant doesn't have fountain soda for some reason. Maybe because I like the carbonation...this place serves soda in cans. With all this being said...I would return and try different items. It is a nice little fine in a small China Town. Pricing for this place is rather reasonable as well. read more

Me and my boyfriend went on Sunday for early dinner. There are 2 or 3 set of stairs to go before reaching the restaurant. The place was busy, but not fully packed. We were seated in a corner, so it was quite hard for the servers to notice us whenever we wanted to call them. We ordered 4 kinds of dim sum (beef balls, spare ribs with black pepper sauce, siu mai and shrimp and chives dumpling - har gaw) + 1 menu dish of beef stir Fry rice noodle ($11+). The shrimp and chives dumplings are the best out of these 4. Overall, dim sum was okay, I've had better in other places I visited, I'd give a 5 or 6 out of 10. On the other hand, the beef rice noodle was good, especially with chilli sauce. Service was not that quick. We ordered dim sum first and ordered rice noodle 5-10mins later. And we got the latter first, and dim sum came in 5-10mins after. read more

I came here for dinner with the tour group when visiting Toronto. I think this place is pretty good for the seafood. The most memorable items were the crab, lobster and also fish. We also got a dish of tofu, baby bok Choy, chicken, beef broccoli, and chicken. At the end we also got some oranges. It was family style and we sat with two other families. The amount of food they ate were little so I had a chance to eat a lot of the lobster and crabs. I think the seafood was pretty fresh and I was impressed with the quality. I don't know if I would go back to eat there on my own but with the tour group I think it was decent. I don't even know how much it was but I'm going to guess very expensive. read more

Fairly typical crazy busy, and fairly loud, dim sum restaurant. It can be difficult to get the dishes you want at times, depending on where you're sitting (avoid sitting in the corner!) and how busy it is. The quality of the food was very good. We tend to stick mostly to shrimp and veggie dishes, but the kids also enjoyed the sesame balls and egg tarts. They did not have soy sauce on the table, you have to ask for it, and they poured some into a dish for us. A little annoying, but not all that difficult to rectify. The wait staff is not mean, but not really nice either. Most will not actively seek you out to make sure you're doing okay or have what you want. You need to take the initiative to flag them down or chase down the food you're looking for. If you're not the adventurous type, or have never been to a dim sum place before, you may have a bad experience here because of the above. Some good food if you know how to get it though. read more
