We were looking for something unique in Grass Valley and we are so glad we found this fabulous restaurant. Chilean inspired South American dishes were vibrant with flavor and exploded with delicious fragrances. Wow! We loved every bite from the spicy shrimp with Diegos slaw to the stuffed portobello mushroom. My Rock Crab stuffed Chile relleno was delicious. My dish also came with black beans and rice Our Tres Leches for dessert was excellent too. We had been out and about and the San Pellegrino water hit the spot. The service was excellent and our team checked in on us frequently. We started out with home made rolls which were very tasty. The habanero hot sauce adds a bit of kick so use sparingly unless you really like hot. Across the street is a Bed n breakfast so we are scheming to come back to explore more of the local wineries. So incredibly slow and one waitress for the entire restaurant is a terrible idea. 20 min to get water. So sad that such great food and great atmosphere yet the owners can't figure out a better situation for wait staff. We should have been informed they were having issues before we sat down. This Latin American restaurant is two minutes from downtown and is obviously well loved by the locals. Cozy decor and warm welcoming family run. The Chilean sauces in my fajitas were a warm citrusy change from traditional Mexican sauce and the pulled pork was tender and rich. My husband's steak and vegetables were excellent. I was impressed that vegetarian options are available for most dishes. The homemade Chilean sauces and desserts were sophisticated and delicious. The Celosina dessert was a fabulous crepe filled with bananas and warm caramel topped with vanilla ice cream. The staff was so sweet; they literally offered blankets on a chilly evening ! This place is going to make you happy. The menu is huge with a lot of Chilean and Mexican dishes. We both loved our entrees and dessert too. The panqueque was a Chilean style crepe that looked giant but was surprisingly not too heavy. It's a family run restaurant and the service is warm and friendly and the atmosphere casual and eclectic. With my second time visiting, I was excited to try something different on the menu! Being a vegetarian, it is great to see dishes made especially for those that do not eat meat. This time around, I decided to go with the veggie Chile relleno and I was not disappointed! It came with a side salad, beans and rice and was super yummy! I hadn't eaten all day, otherwise I definitely would of had extras to take home. I eat here when visiting my friends and it definitely is a great option for food up in the nevada city area. A bummer is their happy hour. I was told it recently changed to 2pm-4pm, which is definitely not the time I'm used to happy hour being at. The empanadas and the spicy/sweet shrimp are fabulous appetizers. Honestly the BEST shrimp I've ever had. The Panqueque (sp?)is a super stuffed crepe/burrito hybrid that should be a national treasure. The stuffed pork loin special with delicious mashed potatoes was SO GOOD! But don't pass on the rolls with the verde sauce they were amazing and I'd buy the citrus vinaigrette by the barrel if they sold it. The interior is charming, warm and welcoming. Food was pretty good. Guacamole and chips were very flavorful. Burger needed to be sent back due to uncooked bacon and non-crispy fries. Service was horrible. One waitress for the whole place. Took quite sometime to even get acknowledged. Almost left. Ambience was cute. Street parking only and nice patio area. Well, I went to Diego's again, 8 years after my first review. The first 5-star review was after my sister had hosted my mom's 80th birthday party in Diego's private room. This time, it was with my out-of-state friends who were visiting with me to attend my mom's celebration of life. Sigh. We were staying at a BnB up the road, and on a nasty, stormy, rainy night we ordered food for takeout. However, the ambiance and the sangria were so good, and our adorable server was so friendly, we ended up eating this delicious food in the restaurant from our containers! Walking in, the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere. The menu was intriguing but the food wasn't seasoned. We had the calamari, shrimp, jalepenos, fajitas, pupusas, quesadilla, taquitos and mashed potatoes. The fried foods tasted like the oil was old. The mashed potatoes were burned. Despite asking for a flour tortilla quesadilla for our kiddo and we were served a crepe with cheese. Omgeeee. We have found Cuban bread!!! So delish! My fiancé and I ordered a mushroom soup and their bistec a Lo pobre. For a $3 sharing fee they split the splats for you and add more sides. I followed my fellow Yelpers to Diego's. Love trying new places to eat. Diego's has a nice atmosphere, especially loved their patio area which was so helpful with our Maltipom, who happen to be with us. My son says his enchilada was pretty good. (Looked colorful and yummy.) My husband enjoyed his Favorito steak sandwich. The meat was in small cubes...interesting. The chimichurri sauce in Anticucho drew me to order that with a beef skewer. The meat was seasoned well, and the chimichurri sauce was delicious with it, but I felt the meat was kind of chewy. The grilled vegetables were crunchy including the potatoes, which maybe needed a few more minutes on the grill to my like'in. Service was excellent. Parking was easy. I don't believe I've ever had Chilean food. Definitely, worth a try if you are in the area. read more

My family went there last Thursday for brunch at 11:00 when they opened. The decor is eclectic and lots of wood. Indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of parking. The food was wonderful! They have enchilada type food that is done with a seasoned crepe instead of a tortilla. Oh so flavorful with either chorizo/pineapple, steak, chicken or pulled pork. There are tacos, papusas mexican fare, and Central American dishes. They also make these little biscuits that you put garlic butter and cilantro/onion mix- yummy. The pice is cheap compared to the food quality. only $15 for a 1-pound burger with the best bacon and guacamole I've ever had. I have this thing about fish tacos, I always have to try them at Mexican or Latin restaurants here. This was my 1st visit to Diego's and I'm not happy with the customer service. I waited 25 minutes before I was acknowledged by a server and they were well staffed. Getting back to the fish tacos, they were very good and it seems as though they use the most natural and healthy of ingredients. I had a Palamo Margarita which was a little disappointing but it was average. I just expected more. Getting back to the staffing issue, they appear to have enough servers working there's working but I'm not sure why sure why I've come away feeling ignored. read more

The Calamari was tasteless, soggy, and cold. The tarter was below average. Adorable little late night find on the road to Chico. I got the portobello street tacos and the portobello taquitos. Both were great. The street tacos were excellent. I wanted to try a bunch more. Tons of vegan options. The waitress was very friendly and knew all of the ingredients. She was able to make suggestions too. My friend got a combo plate and loved it all. Their home made salsa was good but spicy (I'm a wimp so that means it's normal). My only complaint is the chips were cold. I'm not sure why, but I expected warm tortilla chips. Also the plain black beans were meh. I didn't need them at all. I would return for sure though. Great atmosphere and a staff. read more

A meal at Diego's is always a wonderful experience. I will always bring my emotional support toy poodle and sit on the outdoor patio. With the heaters on, it's always refreshing even in cooler weather, and the lighting and cushions available for chairs creates an ambience that is authentically south of the border. The service is always impeccable, everything is clean and the food is always delicious! The atmosphere is friendly and my toy poodle always invites other guests to make friends, especially children. 4 stars and a happy find. Despite being super busy they called me back. Spent a few minutes wait time on hold- creepy organ type music but all worth it. The people who took our order on the phone could not have been any nicer. We were about 2 hours away from the restaurant and we were able to order head and pick it up. There are a few vegan items so I got the stuffed portobello with lots of grilled veggies, rice and black beans. The portion was huge and enough for two filling meals The SO got a caramel crepe dessert, shrimp skewers with a side of rice and beans, and a steak sandwich. Everything was delicious! I had read about Diego's and wanted to try it for a long time. Girlfriend and I drove up from Sacramento on Sunday to give it a try. We arrived just before 5 and there was lots of seating inside and out at that hour. Since it wasn't too hot we sat on the patio. Service is outstanding at this place--very attentive, friendly, clearly cared about us as their customers. Water and South American bread came out immediately. I'm gluten intolerant so they offered me tortilla chips instead. GF loved the tiny bread rolls with garlicky butter and parsley. GF had the anchiote chicken breasts which was a large serving with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. Loved it. I ordered street tacos, beef and chorizo. Very good. The chorizo was not too spicy or salty. In fact, all of our food was flavorful without a ton of salt. (I normally get some bloat after eating out, but none from Diego's! A super plus from me.) GF tried a chocolate dessert that she reported was divine. It was worth the drive! They take reservations which i think you should consider. There are about seven tables inside and another nine outside. Restroom decor was cool and the room was clean. Parking on the street was ok. My only reservation is that so many of the offerings sounded really good, but most included a fried item. Part of the regional cuisine, I'm sure. read more

We ordered the crab relleno and the house panqueque (egg crepe with savory filling). They look just like other photos on yelp. The server recommended the housemade habanero salsa. That was the bomb and the missing link which made the food 'pop'. One complaint secondary to Yelp- the restaurant does NOT offer coupons on yelp. However yelp showed a coupon for free drink for checking in. Apparently the app has done so with other items such as soup in past. The server honored the coupon and even got a refill for soda.
