Overwhelming selection of sports goods and equipment and poor customer service. The employees never smiled or asked us if we needed help.

Ok I don't normally yelp sporting good stores but I needed to find a item so earlier I was working in Santa Rosa so around 11.00 I went in the store up there , first think I noticed was a long line with only one person ringing out customers. I actually did find some good service from a friendly guy working in the area which had boxing equipment , he knew his stuff. So later when I was back in Petaluma I walked in this time around 8:30 no lines and I was able to get a hunting licenses with no waiting and the lady that was helping me ask how my night was and was very polite. She had to call a manager to get a duck stamp from the safe and he was fast and helpful. I was happy and they actually smiled and were great. read more

The bald guy in the golf dept needs to get a clue!! I was in there for 15-20 minutes, and not once, did he ask "can I help you?", "do you have any questions?", " let me know if I can help with anything". He starred at his computer screen the whole time. 4 to 5 other customers were walking around looking at putters, etc. Everyone totally ignored!! Everyone I talked to who has gone into that golf dept has said the same exact thing. Really bad.. Then a customer came in for one re-grip on 1 club, yes 1 club. He said "well I have a fitting coming in soon, so I won't be able to do it now". Well, that gentleman didn't show up for a least 10-15 more minutes, and he was still looking at his computer screen. It takes 90 seconds to do a re-grip?? Terrible service, I will never go back again. Some advice people, to buy golf equipment, and get custom fit for golf clubs, this is not your specialty golf shop. Terrible service, and didn't even get to talk about any golf product because there is no one to talk to... Go see your golf pro, or better yet, go to The Golf Mart. It's that easy. Hard to believe this is a brand new store!?!?!? There is no selection, I thought dicks was a normal new sports store that carried all the new gear. Little to no customer service. Saw no one on the floor and when I asked about it I got a snotty remark foe a cashier. We purchased a mitt for my son, including a steam treatment. The person that could steam the mitt was supposedly at lunch, so we went to eat lunch, leaving the mitt there as we were told to be steamed. After out lunch the mitt had not been steamed and we had to wait for the machine to get hot. Have now been waiting for 30 min plus for something that was supposed to be complete. The store has an amazing collection of sports equipment, but no customer service. I will have to stick with Sports Authority whee they want to help customers. read more

Rest in Peace customer service. Well, not at Dick's as there isn't any. So, a pretty empty store the day after Xmas when you'd expect it to be busy, perhaps a big clue about my experience I missed. A great window shopping experience on their very large selection is the best you can hope for here.Trouble is there seems to be absolutely no interest in selling anything to you. So, I found what I wanted without help eventually, then on to the partly staffed checkouts. Given I was dropping in for two items, it took 40 mins. If the management ever wants to know why this store always seems empty -- they should do some training and hire some competent people. Except for Angela, who checked me out with humor and efficiency (she is FAB!) the other people I encountered were dismal! I went in looking for court shoes, tennis -- for women. I walked to the back where 2 female employees were chatting. They didn't look at me - lol -- so I said, "excuse me, do you sell court shoes" and one very flat, zero personality person led me to the 4 options. She then walked away. Ugh. Beautiful store with gorgeous clothes and many options for my kids and husband -- and for me -- BUT if the staff is this bad, we will not be back. read more

The customer service (or lack thereof) is absolutely appalling. The few times j have ventured into the store I have had to search for someone to help me and when I do find someone (which is not easy) the staff seems annoyed. The last time I was there (which will be my final time) I tried to return something with a receipt. The guy working the register was rude and condescending the entire time. I asked to speak to a manager at one point and one wouldn't come to the register. I will never come here again and will now go out of my way to do so. I suggest you do the same. read more

Hard to believe some people give this place a good rating. I've been coming in here since they opened and have never had a good experience. It's almost like the store manager is a high school kid with no knowledge of how to run a store or have any sales's experience. Not only do they never have anything in stock, the customer service or lack of, is unbelievable bad. Once again I came in today to purchase an athletic heart rate monitor but no one was around to help me. Once I pressed the help button a nice kid came by to help but knew nothing about what they had or even what it was I was looking for. Again I'm forced to order a product online simply because a store can't keep any stock on hand. Dick's Sports will soon go the way of Sports Authority because of this poor service. read more

Buyer beware! They will not take back any defective items, they must be in sale-able condition. They will make it the buyer's responsibility to get an exchange from the manufacturer. The stuff this store sells is all things fun, but the staff has the worst customer service I have ever seen. If I'm going to pay top dollar for something that I could get online for half the price, I would expect to have a good experience. There were three employees standing in a group having an inappropriate conversation, which made me uncomfortable enough to leave. Nor did they acknowledge me, except one guy who glared at me and I presume it was because of my giants jersey. He made it clear he does not like them. read more

While the store is new and pretty it is not buyer friendly. I wandered around looking for someone to help find what I had been told on the phone they carried. After 15 minutes I was ready to leave the store. Someone finally asked if they could help. That person had no idea where the item was. I spotted what I guessed would be the right section. There was no price on the item and the person who was supposed to know the store had to walk half way across the store to get the price! Another person came up and did not hear me say that someone was looking for a price and proceeded to do a price check with his little machine. Wonder why the first person could not do it? Years ago when I was in retail the area manager instilled in us that if an item is not priced it will not sell. People do not want to ask, especially if they cannot find help. Our department would be dinged if there were items not price. Dick's would be wise to heed that tip. I will never go back. If I want that type of service I will use the Internet. In fact the item I wanted was cheaper on the Internet! read more

Had never been inside Dicks sporting goods. I had gone in to find a pair of track shoes, I walk in and there are 5 employees standing their talking not greeting me or anything. I had to wonder around the store to find someone to help me find what I needed. Then when I did find someone to help me they were very rude, and told me that they did not carry that shoe in store. I asked them what website I could use to order them, and she had no response. What happened to hood customer service, greeting the customer as they walk in, and helping your customers who are willing to pay for the product they need. I will never be returning to this store.... read more

I also got overcharged for my sale items upon my last visit (I was charged the regular price rather than the sale sticker price) yet I am not going back and making a special trip to deal with the issue. read more

It's really nice to finally have an alternative to Big 5 again in Petaluma. Dick's is a huge store, with everything from lacrosse sticks to archery equipment to bicycles. The prices are good as you'd expect from a national chain. The staff was friendly and more than happy to help me find items I could not locate. read more

I really love this store! When you're adulting buying things like beach chairs and lusting after Yeti everything then Dicks in the place to be! But this review is mainly for Roman who I get lucky enough to help me at checkout. He is so helpful and so kind! He literally opened up a chair for me at checkout to sit in and test out because there wasn't a floor model. AND was attentive to everyone else in line who was waiting. I could tell he was able to not only give me 5 star service but be able to scan the perimeter so he could be attentive to customers around me. Top notch! Thank you Roman! I am going to have to agree with a lot of people that rate this location 1 or 2 stars. This place seriously lacks customer service skills. I understand that model of the company is self serve. It's not a full service business I don't expect to go in there and have someone sell me. But when asking a question do you have this item in stock, you should be given a yes or no answer. Went into the location asking if they had a particular jacket in stock. I had the UPC / bar code for them to check, all the guy did was scan it said yes we carry it its 50% off and it's over there in the fan shop. When asked if they actually had it, he said I don't know it doesn't tell me that. Pretty poor in my opinion. Hope Dick's corporation is taking notice and does a better job training the staff when the Santa Rosa location opens. If they don't, I don't see them growing their business year over year. read more

Great product and attentive floor staff, but the checkout process on a surprisingly slow Friday afternoon was slow as molasses! One Cashier and 6 customers waiting in line was not what I expect from Dicks! Please train your staff to be aware of these types of situations. Where was the manager???? Nowhere to be seen! I always have to wait 5-15 minutes to be waited on in the store. Not like any other of their stores in other states. It took 30 minutes to make a simple cash exchange today, meanwhile customers lined up behind me, no other register open for the first 15 minutes. No one notice long lines, it seems. Management is not paying attention to the nuts and bolts of service to customers. Individually, the staff is helpful, but they can't do anything if no one heeds their calls on the internal communication system for help. After several years of putting up with this, I've decided it just isn't worth it. Shop anywhere else! read more

Dick's had Warriors championship shirts and hats for sale right after the Warriors won! The shirts were well organized on tables with signs indicating gender and size. They had a lot of variety and plenty of staff of help. The line was long but moved quickly since every register was running. I was so happy to be able to have my shirt immediately thanks to Dick's! read more

Today was my second time in the store and my second horrible experience. The customer service is awful. It takes forever to find someone who works there and when you do they don't know their inventory. Today the guy had no idea what a baseball belt was. Really? The management needs to better inform their staff what good customer service is and set an expectation that their staff know their products. They also need to rethink the clothing layout. There doesn't seem to be any logic to the set up. Adult and children clothes are on the same racks. I don't know if I'm looking at a woman's shirt or a little girls. I won't be returning, I'm certain I can find all that I need at local stores instead. read more

Stopped in that area to get some Coffee and decided to check out Dick's for the first time in California. If you like Nike and Under Armour they have a lot of it. The store is big and they have products for a lot of different things, but my reviews aren't based on the products. I can go to specific stores that sell those products. I was in there for 45 minutes while my girlfriend tried stuff on and wasn't asked once if I needed help. I went to 3 departments (Golf section, footwear, and men's fitness apparel) and they were all ghost towns. No employees in site to ask questions. Customer service is the future of retail. Retailers can only discount products so much so having staff that is helpful and knows the product goes a long way. read more

Well, lets start from the beginning. Yesterday I went into this store looking to buy a pair of running shoes; I knew the exact brand and size I wanted. After walking into the shoe section, I found that it was deserted. After 10minutes of waiting/looking for a sales associate to help me find the shoes, I decided to leave. Today, I decided to come back, and give them a second chance. BIG MISTAKE. Walking back into the shoe section, I realized that once again there was nobody there, and that I'd have to go out of my way for help. After walking to the register and asking for help, the associate told me that there was no Brooks size 8.5 or 9 shoes in the store. Yes, I realize that that size is popular, but you're an ATHLETIC STORE. You should carry all sizes in a variety of styles, not just 7 boxes laying around (And when I say laying around, several of the boxes he showed me were literally laying on the ground). Next time I'm looking for running shoes, I'll spend the extra cash and go to a running store. Unreal. read more

Nice store and good selection. Check out is fine. Customer service is just ok. It helps to know what you are looking for. You can get customer service if you are able find someone. It helps if that someone knows what they are talking about. I was sold a Gammo air pistol with pellets that don't fit the pistol. I have managed to find some employees who seem to busy to help. Like you are interrupting them. This attitude is very common these days. But, not acceptable or deserved. read more

The store is new and clean and organized. They do have a very large selection of various items and their prices are decent I think. The customer service was good. I must have had about 4 employees ask me for assistance while I did my lap around the store. They did have a pretty great deal on Marmot Sleeping Bags. I was really impressed with the amount of merchandise in this store; they seemed to have everything. It took awhile to find the clothing I was looking for because the clothing layout seemed a bit difficult to decipher. They have a great selection of name brand merchandise and the prices were just average. The store was super clean, but their selection of Yoga clothing was bit limited. read more

After my shopping experience there, I was left to question why I would want to go back to shop at a place where everything is overpriced and deal with unpleasant guy at check out counter? After reading the other reviews here, I see that I'm not the only one who's experienced their lousy customer service. On top of this, their store layout is very confusing. Dick's Sporting Goods has a large selection of variety of Sports. The sales clerks are very helpful. They are the only place that had small baseball goods for my son to fit into. He was very happy. The prices are high and could be less with more sales. read more

I went in to get my grand daughter some new soccer gear. The store is huge, but it really did not seem to have a lot of options for younger girls. (There was only a couple colors of soccer shorts and shin guards). We ended up having her mom order something online instead. read more

I bought a bicycle for my son last week; it was a beautiful mountain bike. Every now and again I bring it back in for mechanical work and the boy who works in the bike department, Andrew, has always been so helpful. From fixing flats to dialing the brakes Andrew has always been such a hard worker. I highly recommend taking your bike here for great service and a reasonable price. read more

Rick Holstedt in the bike department is awesome! I was a bit skeptical bringing my Specialized Stumpjumper in for a tune-up at a sporting goods store. However, after talking to Rick a bit about his bicycle knowledge I figured I would give him a try. He did a better job than the high end bike shops in town and at a fraction of the cost. Best under $50.00 tune up ever. As long as Rick is at Dicks, I'll come back! read more
