I love this store and how much they take care of me. I recently when in to buy a new 3 fairway metal and went through a full testing and fitting process and pretty much tried every brand they had. After full testing we landed on the new Taylormade M4 with a stiff Fujikura Atmos Red shaft. After spending time on the launch monitor we were getting great numbers, but Nick (the club builder/fitter there) felt that by using a different better Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-6 shaft with the same basic weight and flex characteristics, we could get a slightly better ball flight with better tighter dispersion and a touch more rollout/distence. Well they let me take the stock club to use while mine was ordered and being made. So I used this club and was loving it.
Then my new club arrived and I switched them out and tried the new club. I was getting very weird results. It was flighted great, but everything was either going left or had this draw ball flight, I couldn't get it to fade and figure it out. The previous off the shelf one had this wonderful straight or slight fade shot shape which was what I was looking for, so this just was weird considering it was basically the same, but better shaft.
So after being able to repeat this on the monitor at The Golf Mart for Nick, he was baffled and want to mess with the new club and try some stuff out to see if he could figure out what was going on. He took my off the shelf club, and the new custom one and pulled the heads to examine the shafts, the club head, and the width of the grip, and he spent a lot of "science" time on this to get it figured out.
In the end, he found out that the new head was in spec, but a degree or two closed compared to my off the shelf club. He also took the shafts and checked the Spines and Flo to see where they were in comparison to how they were installed. It turns out that one was installed with the Spine/Flo in a slight left of center position and one was installed slightly right of center. So this with the club head being closed as well as the new shaft having a slightly thinner grip, were all adding up to me having a more draw bias club where the old one was a fade bias (which is more what I want my 3W to be).
After I got the newly adjusted club back where he put the previous head one, the shaft installed in the same location as the old one, I played a couple rounds with it... it's NOW AMAZING and is doing all the things we talked about when we ordered it, absolutely amazing performance and distance and shot shape control.
Nick and The Golf Mart went way above my normal expectations of their service and spent the time and effort to get me a club that performs and works amazing. I'm extremely happy with the club and service I received from them, can't say it enough, this place is just the best golf store I've ever spent my money at.
Thanks again Nick and The Golf Mart,
