This place is a new gem in Oakland! Staff is super attentive and facility is dope. It has a lounge area for games on tv, two full simulators, and a putting green. So glad I fell into this place.. Big shout out to Preston for the new business.

Long version: The first time I needed to adjust the lie angle on my irons a few degrees. He was very friendly and professional at the time. He insisted on doing a lie angle board and I went along with it even though I knew what adjustment I needed. In retrospect I should have been more insistent, so I'll take responsibility for that, but he likes to stick to his process. The adjustment was much stronger than I planned on getting. After using my clubs for a few weeks, it felt off, so I ended up going back to him to get the adjustment I originally wanted. He was cool about it and made the adjustment. He charged less this time around - he actually hesitated charging at all. After building a rapport I planned on being a repeat customer. So several weeks later, I reached out to him about adjusting the loft on a single iron. I told him it wasn't urgent. We arrange a time to meet - all seemed ok. When I get there he starts doing the adjustment and the tone shifts. He starts telling me about how I'm wasting his time with this loft change and how other customers asking for small adjustments are wasting his time. He's dropping F bombs and coming across really hostile. Keep in mind, this is a paid service and didn't ask for this as a favor. 5 minute non-urgent job for $10. I was completely taken off guard. I found myself in a position verbally defending this adjustment that *I was paying for*. I couldn't believe this guy was mad about getting work requests directly related to his club repair business. He also could have turned down the job before we both went through the trouble of meeting. I was very explicit on what the adjustment request was. Bizarre. I've read other reviews about similar outbusts and I totally understand now. Based on the reviews, he can be really great or really angry. I've seen both sides after 3 visits and after that uncomfortable encounter I don't think it's worth the unpredictable volatility.

First time at this location, and parking was super easy in their lot. The store layout is very clean and easy to navigate. Plenty of selection when it comes to apparel, clubs, and bags. They had like 4 hitting bays with launch monitors. Scott was able to set me up with one while I tried out a few iron shots with the set I was eyeing. After a few swings, I was sold. Working with Scott and Jeremy was a breeze and ended up with a brand new putter as well. While some people like to thrift shop for clothes, I like to do that with golf clubs because the demo and trade-in pricing on clubs are a good way to save money of clubs that you actually want. The 90-day return policy for store credit allows you to take what you buy out and play them for up to 90 days. If you don't like it, you can swap them out for something else. And with golf, the money can always be spent on something golf related. Played my first round with my new set, and love em. Will probably be back to get them re-gripped soon.

However, while I was waiting and browsing, I started looking at hybrids and Jason asked me to give one a try. He was very helpful and I ended up buying a used Taylor Made M2 4-hybrid from him for $50, plus he put a new grip on that one, too. Very pleased that he didn't try to talk me into getting a new $300 club like many shops might. Very pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Reasonable prices. If I'm back in the East Bay nearby I will stop back in.

I was first referred there years ago by a fellow golfer, and since that first visit I've been a regular customer and have also referred many of my golfing friends there over the years. It's a comfortable shop with people who clearly care about helping golfers improve their game. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to spend the time helping you find the right club or shaft for your swing. In my experience, their shaft selection is one of the best I've come across. They also have all the equipment needed for excellent club fitting and really work with you to match the equipment to the way you swing and play the game. Whether it's dialing in the right shaft, doing repairs or making adjustments, they have all the right tools and experience to get it done right. You can tell they've been doing this a long time and take pride in what they do. It's one of the best golf shops around, and every time I go in there I leave feeling confident about the equipment I'm playing.

Have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I asked about using the hitting bays to demo clubs, and a nice young lady got me set up and even said she would build clubs with shafts to my specs to try! Wasn't expecting that level of service. Unfortunately, she had to excuse herself and another gentleman took over who wasn't as accommodating in offering to build to my specs. Got to demo three of the hottest new drivers and 3 woods with no sales pressure in their state of the art golf simulators. Although, I didn't buy, I was impressed with the service and selection. Then I began walking around the store and saw they have a Trackman practice area that people can sign up for as regulars and a good amount of clothing and accessories with many popular retail brands (Nike, Adidas, etc) and lesser known but quality looking apparel on sale for reasonable ($50 and under, not $100-150 on sale) prices. As a regular shopper at the Golf Mart Superstore in South City/San Bruno, I would day this store is nicer but doesn't have as many used clubs, esp. from top brands like Taylormade, Callaway, Ping, etc., to choose from. As an avid golfer interested in improving my game, I will be back soon to try out more of the latest equipment or perhaps take advantage of their practice program or free fitting service, too!!
