Ian has a sharp eye for mechanics and breaks everything down in a way that actually sticks -- starting from the ground up with grip, then building into swing path, ball position, and tempo. He gives you a clear roadmap and builds on it lesson by lesson. I practice a few times a week and take monthly lessons with him, and every session I walk away with something concrete to work on. What sets Ian apart is that he's not just technically excellent -- he's also a great communicator who's genuinely invested in his students' progress. You can tell he loves what he does. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced golfer looking to sharpen your game, I can't recommend Ian enough. He's the real deal.

I'm an intermediate golfer who's still learning how to consistently make good contact. I signed up for a four-pack of lessons with Dan and feel much more confident when I hit the course now. Dan's teaching style is straightforward and not overly serious. But that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about! He puts you at ease, and helps you stack good habits one at a time until your swing is in a better spot. I learned some basic swing fundamentals and he also taught me how to hit out of a bunker and hit a flop shot. We even went over on our time a couple of lessons, and Dan continued to finish teaching on his own time to help me out. Dan also uses the OnForm golf app. After a lesson, Dan sent me a video recording that overlayed my swing with a professional's. Dan did a voiceover and used arrows/shapes on the screen to help me understand his teaching points. Having that takeaway video gave me something to study outside of our lessons. As you can see, you should sign up with Dan.

My child looks forward to Coach's mental lifts during 1:1 lessons to propel him into tournaments. These in-person coaching sessions have been crucial in slogging it through a performance lull during a tournament series. She knows how to turn a junior golfer's mindset around and offer reasonable swing tweaks. For example, she reminds my child to walk at a putter swing tempo as he approaches the green to mark his ball position, a mind-body reminder to control breathing and pace his stream of golf thoughts. She talks to him about the importance of honors and holding onto it, as a budding golfer learning to focus and actively remove distractions. Her impact is evident in my child's improved temperament, scores, and enthusiasm. Coach Kathleen has supported her junior golfers as young as four years old through college graduation. She created a community for high school and college golfers to return to run her camps. My child looks up to these role models and absolute leaders, which is Coach Kathleen's intentional platform to lift all her juniors. She lights up when discussing how many female golfers she encourages into the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf eLeader program. She beams when her juniors humbly brag about their wins. When their golf game takes a hit, she turns the juniors' frowns upside down. When she takes on her junior golfers, she invests in their lifetime skills on and off the golf course. Coach Kathleen is an absolute gem.

I don't golf but if I compare her to my yoga teachers, it's like she knows how to describe in words how things should feel in your body or clubs in a way that the golfer can understand and do. She is a fixture at Lake Chabot Golf Course; my husband and I call her the mayor because everyone seems to know her. She is a nurturing instructor and her love for golf shines through in her interactions with her students. She is great with both highly skilled golfers and those starting off. We cannot recommend her highly enough - we drive out to Oakland from Orinda because she's so great.

I visited to get my distances dialed in, and got assistance after with an email of the report. Turns out it was a single video of someone else. After several days of waiting, I finally got a report with some data. But Carry and Total Distance were not available - whether via browser or the Trackman app. Then I was told I had to have signed into the their bay when I was onsite. But when I arrived onsite with a buddy, we both said we need help getting set up and thus we thought we were - turns out that wasn't the case. Seems to me that if you know Trackman this place may be worth a try. If you don't, you should learn before you go or risk the chance of not having key data available after the session. Unfortunately, with all the back and forth and the fact I never got the 2 most important data points I wanted (the reason I signed up was to dial in iron and wedge distances) I would reconsider going here. When I suggested that all employees become proficient in Trackman and asked what they thought I heard nothing back. Probably worth a try, but, buyer beware. If I were the shop owner, I would have offered a return session on the house. This never crossed their minds. Too bad.

It would be great to see some newer equipment and additions like a Smith machine or hip thrust machine. My sister and I had an uncomfortable experience when we visited together. It's also frustrating to see the owners opening a new Pilates studio while this location still needs updates. And honestly, for a women's-only gym, it's surprising there's no childcare option. I think that would make a big difference for many members. I prepaid for an annual membership and honestly unsure if I will renew when the time comes.
