Ian is the real deal - he fits his teaching perfectly between technical analysis and feel. He doesn't overwhelm with things like "oh your face is 2* open at impact" or "7500 rpms is too spinny for a 6 iron lets fix that" I would get from some other coach. I have went from shooting ~130 per round to getting my first handicap at 30.5 to getting my current handicap to 18.7 to signing up for my first tournament in 14 months. I have taken 9 lessons over these 13 months and he has built my swing from nothing to where it is today. I know that my velocity of improvement has everything to do with his teaching. His method isn't rigid and doesn't command you to conform to a one-size-fits-all golf swing. He truly works with you where you're at and builds upon your swing from there. After five lessons, I've consistently taken 15-20 strokes off of my game. I may still be shooting in the low 90's and have quite a ways to go, but that's a far cry from taking numerous "snowmen" on par 4's and scoring in the 110's. The lesson is located at Boulder Creek which i found was a private gold course right hidden in back next past Almaden Lake. I saw turkeys coming in and a coyote and deer on the way out. So awesome!! It was kind of a cold day, foggy, but was beautiful on the course and luckily warmed up throughout the lesson. U can park then make ur way to the range which is the walk way in front of parking lots. Sean is so nice and friendly and makes u feel great even when the ball goes awry. He helped me correct my swing so I'm rotating and using my whole torso/body instead of just my arms. Also my stance and grip. This was my first lesson and we already saw improvement in how far the ball was hit! I would def recommend Sean and will be back for more lessons!!

The course itself was in pretty good condition. They are renovating a bunch of their tee boxes, so the course is currently playing shorter than it normally would. It made the course a lot easier, as I was hitting driver and wedge into most of the par 4s. Ended up shooting (-1) from the white tees, which was a solid score. The course is pretty wide open, so if you aren't driving the ball straight it doesn't hurt you as much. It's great for all skill levels, and can be challenging at times but a great course to learn on if you are just starting. The greens were aerated earlier in the week so they weren't rolling true but we were able to make it work. The bunkers had a good amount of sand, and the fairways were well kept. Pace of play was on the slower side, so plan for 5+ hours to be on the safe side. I'd prefer a morning tee time as the wind picks up in the afternoon and makes the course a bit harder. My only gripe is that there was no mention of aeration of the greens on their website or when I booked my tee time. Honestly we probably wouldn't have come if we knew the greens were just aerated, especially since we had to drive across the bridge to get here. Overall, definitely a solid course that I would play again and again.
