First time trying this track on the Oakland/San Leandro border, literally right next to the…read moreairport. Planes fly so close that you can feel their speed and power. Total links style, meaning almost no trees in play, just a big blob of grassy space, but littered with bunkers and a few creek hazards. I'm usually not a big fan of links style golf, but if I get acquainted with one, then one can grow on me, like neighboring Monarch Bay. For a first timer it is just incredibly hard to know where to aim your shot. I ended up in a hazard multiple times after executing a nice shot, to find out 200+ yards later that my ball is either in a sand bunker or worse in a creek/marshland area that I couldn't see from the tee box. Then add stiff winds cuz its such an open space, then it just makes for a really long round. For some reason I did much better on the front 9, then on the back I got killed. The back 9 here is significantly harder, it's almost like 2 different skill levels. I do like the driving range here, as they have real grass, which is super rare these days. I also liked their golf carts, clean, modern and fast. They also have super great deals for seniors, like free golf carts so that's almost a $20 savings from a regular dude. I'm not quite a senior yet so 3 stars for now. When my rate drops to that awesome rate, I'll bump them up for an awesome value. But for now, I'll remain a golfer who gets a penalizing score yet also has to pay a premium. Such is life. But I'll try and give another swing here before summer ends. Round 2 *ding ding*

The road to the golf course is beautiful with trees on both sides. I always walk with my golf cart, but booking online it only had the option with cart. I was glad that they forced us to pay for the golf cart, BTW, when you book online the night before, you have to pay for the tee time non refundable with a credit card. If you want to walk which is a little difficult and slow due to many hilly fairways, you must call the pro shop to book. I didn't see anyone walking on last Friday. There are 2 courses on this establishment, there's one 9 holes and one 18 holes. The check-in pro shop is across from the cart return area, hard to see, a small house, may be it's still in renovation? The driving range is right next to it. BTW, it's a little difficult to find a parking spot close to the pro shop, the best is to park, then check in to get a cart and go to the car to get the clubs. Anyhow, the first hole is right there at the golf carts. I could see the hill already. It's beautiful. The fairways are very well kept, plenty of grass but many bushes on the sides, easy to lose balls if they went in there. Many fairways are quite narrow, and a few that have flags up in the hills to guide people for teeing off due to blind fairways. The greens were just aerated a few weeks, still very thick and spotty but puttable. Many greens are quite small although some are big. I like number 9 par 3 on the top hitting to the bottom of the hill, beautiful but quite challenging. The 18 hole is amazing, par 6 and so vast, long, hilly, and beautiful. Love this hole. Most of the holes have wonderful views of the valleys, canyons, I love the scenery. Ah, at the end of the 11th hole, the BBQ grills smelled so good that I had to order the Cheese Burger and believe it or not it's the best $13 cheese burger anywhere at any price. The young lady did it so well, so perfect and I even had a bag of chips to go with it. She deserved a great tip. The prices on weekdays are quite reasonable, for Senior like me, only $43 including cart which is inexpensive. Yes, I'll come back here again and shoot a better score than the first one due to not being familiar with the golf course.

Note: booking times get taken up fast from what I've seen so if you see a time, make sure to book it ASAP! There are a lot of selection time slots, but I've seen them get taken up, normally the earlier slots as soon as they become available. The holes here have always been great to me, and bring great value, especially the monstrous Par 6 at the end, never a dull moment when trying to get on the green from a bad drive. I also say the best part is the turn at the 10 with the fresh burgers, links and beer ready for you as soon as you finish up the hole, come on down here if you're looking for a great tee time and experience!

They have two putting greens and one of them is huge. Although the practice putting green isn't as fast as the real greens, the slopes make up for it. The chipping green is amazing it is really big and has great grass, many pin locations, and two decent sized bunkers. The course is amazing with the conditions being really great not the most punishing course off the tee but the greens are the trickest part. The real greens are rolling about an 13 which is probably the fastest in the bay area. They roll amazing. The range needs some work though. The mats are pretty old and the balls are used. You have to sort out the good balls for your driver they do have top tracer for free which is nice. They have a grad range in the back which is meh. There is alot of grass, but doesn't mean it's good grass. usually the front of the grass range is AMAZING. The little spot below the tree is honestly comparable to pebble beach resort grass ranges. The middle and back of the grass range is okay. The grass gets worse but it still works out it's like a 350 yard walk to balls to the grass range and you have to be a member or pay for a day pass to get into the grass range also this course is really good with juniors.

Superb drainage is just one of the great features of the course ...with all the December and early January precipitation and foul weather our playing partners indicated that they seldom missed their regular appointed rounds. We were fortunate to be paired with two very splendid amateur women players - one from Stanford and another a consultant with Apple Management... So you never know who you're going to meet at Corica. My friend - a local denizen - was just beginning to explore the challenges of the game. ... it was a difficult course to learn and implement swing changes on. Though the driving range provides elite swing technology, it lacks key indicators such as spin and ball speed, that are helpful in teaching a new player, but it's still a feature that most driving ranges around the country lack. The par threes were particularly bland and I found the 17th almost unplayable. I also thought the weekend greens fee was exorbitant close to $151 +2 cart fees, plus a 75 nonrefundable non-applicable reservation fee, which is total nonsense. The pro shop is as unimaginable as any I've ever visited thank God for the restaurant and the wonderful people that run that place

The course itself was in pretty good condition. They are renovating a bunch of their tee boxes, so the course is currently playing shorter than it normally would. It made the course a lot easier, as I was hitting driver and wedge into most of the par 4s. Ended up shooting (-1) from the white tees, which was a solid score. The course is pretty wide open, so if you aren't driving the ball straight it doesn't hurt you as much. It's great for all skill levels, and can be challenging at times but a great course to learn on if you are just starting. The greens were aerated earlier in the week so they weren't rolling true but we were able to make it work. The bunkers had a good amount of sand, and the fairways were well kept. Pace of play was on the slower side, so plan for 5+ hours to be on the safe side. I'd prefer a morning tee time as the wind picks up in the afternoon and makes the course a bit harder. My only gripe is that there was no mention of aeration of the greens on their website or when I booked my tee time. Honestly we probably wouldn't have come if we knew the greens were just aerated, especially since we had to drive across the bridge to get here. Overall, definitely a solid course that I would play again and again.

Knowing it would be a process, my first lesson went a long way to boost my confidence in his teaching style and his ability to translate techniques into a basic thought. He broke down my swing and taught me the reasons why it was inconsistent - using simple concepts and drills to get me in a better position.
