When I started with Matt only 7 months ago, I was a brand new beginner. I had had a few lessons from another outfit that were not very helpful for me. I called that other company's teaching approach Painting by Numbers because it wasn't cohesive and intuitive for me. Also, Matt gives full hour-long lessons versus the other company that only did half hour lessons which I found to be way too short so I ended up having a fractured and incomplete understanding of the golf swing. I'm over 60 years old and a slender woman. So I don't have bulk muscle for strength. Learning how to strike the ball correctly gives me the distance. Matt teaches with intuitive, cohesive instruction and shows (sometimes with props) as well as explains why certain aspects of the swing are important so that logically it all makes sense. He is such a gifted teacher to help all the details gel without my feeling its overly analytical. Proof of his teaching is I started out hitting my 7 iron 42 yards on the Trackman and am now hitting 122 yards dead straight. Also when I started out I didn't have the ball striking skills to play18 hole courses, only 9 hole courses. I recently scored 110, 112, and 114 on a par 72 course. Genuinely by far and away the best golf coach I've had. Having worked with multiple coaches over the past few years, Matt its just on another level. Matt came very highly recommended to me by some of my coworkers. I'm usually very picky with teachers. I took my time getting to know different teachers before deciding that I wanted to take classes regularly with Matt. I started as a beginner. I'm not trying to brag but I've attached the highest score I've received after just 1 swing analysis and 4 lessons with my 7-iron. Coming from all my balls going severely to the right, never turning, unstable stance, open face path etc. I think I've come a long way just within 4 lessons thanks to Matt. Since I've tried some other teachers, I'll explain what's different from a beginner's perspective. Matt uses a lot of visualization and always explains why something is the way it is; this allows me to make the corrections immediately because I understand why I'm doing something a certain way. He also has the most apparatus out of all the teachers I've met to help understand what a movement should feel like and it's incredibly helpful. But most importantly, I actually think golf is fun after years of thinking that it's a boring sport. Matt is an incredibly dynamic and encouraging teacher. Matt is the best coach ever that I've experienced so far. As a beginner who wanted to build a good foundation for my swing, I tried ~10 different coaches in the bay area but realized that they only focus on the wrist and arm movements. The bandage fix works well when I got to the exact timing but my swing ended up being inconsistent, which made the golf extremely difficult. However, with Matt, I learned the rotational movements with the body turn from Day 1, the most important factor for consistent swing mechanics. The Golf Garage & Matt Soza are world class! As a high level competitive golfer, I have been around the block and am pleased to say I've seen some amazing progress since coming to the Golf Garage. I've picked up speed- Driver ball speed averages coming in were ~132, now averaging ~145mph. 7i carry coming in was 145yd, now 160yd. Big gains! Not only have I picked up speed but also consistency. Went to Golf Garage to get some badly needed help on my swing as I was stuck with a 14 handicap. I knew I could do better if I could find someone that could diagnose my faults and more importantly, translate the swing thoughts and feels in a way that even I could understand. Matt was able to do just that by quickly figuring out my path issues and what I could work on to fix them. What really did it for me was the use of Trackman data and video of my swings from the lesson. I'm a slow learner, but because I had that data on Trackman, I could refer to it and compare to my other swings in future sim sessions even when I'm not at Golf Garage. I'm happy to report I just shot my personal best of 76 (+4) and it was all due to my consistent ball striking due to working on my swing and fine tuning through use of the data and video. I went through a couple other instructors in the past and never had success because 1) I wasn't able to figure out what they were trying to communicate in 1 hr that I quickly forgot since there was nothing to refer back to and 2) I couldn't review past swings and see how the swing metrics matched up with them. No way to get feedback. Really pleased that these issues were nonexistent at Golf Garage.
